Cliff Richard duets with Elvis on new album: Sir Cliff Richard will “duet” with Elvis and 'Blues Suede Shoes' on Cliff's new album, announced just days after the singer was told that he will not be charged over allegations of historical sexual abuse.
Sir Cliff, 75, will make his pop comeback on a new collection of classic rock ‘n’roll covers released in November.
Sir Cliff has hit sights set on a Christmas #1, after the Crown Prosecution confirmed the decision not to prosecute him over allegations. Sir Cliff said it was time to return to “the thing I love best”, on an album, called 'Just… Fabulous Rock ‘n’ Roll', which celebrates a “more innocent time”.
The album features new renditions of seminal tracks such as Roll Over Beethoven, Great Balls of Fire, Sweet Little Sixteen, the highlight is a “duet” between Sir Cliff and Elvis on Blue Suede Shoes. Richard, originally styled as a British rival to “the King”, admitted that he owed his career to Elvis.
Sir Cliff was unable to fulfil his dream of duetting with Elvis before the star’s 1977 death. But studio trickery, endorsed by the Presley estate, finally allows their voices to share the same song. Previous posthumous Elvis duets have featured Susan Boyle and Barbra Streisand.

It was 60 years ago - Elvis rocked Tupelo: Sixty years ago on September 26th 1956 an all-conquering Elvis returned to Tupelo and the Mississippi Alabama Fair stage to show one and all that the young kid who left Tupelo was now the world's biggest super-star. After all, it was only 11 years previously in 1945 that he had only managed fifth place at the Mississippi Alabama Fair Talent show.
With both Gladys and Vernon in attendance, as Tupelo historian Roy Turner notes - "Seeing the look on his parents' face, hearing the roar of the Tupelo crowd, he felt it could never be better than this. He was home."

When the U.S. Army drafted Elvis Presley in 1958, it quickly set about transforming the King of Rock and Roll from a rebellious teen idol into a clean-cut GI. Trading in his gold-trimmed jacket for standard-issue fatigues, Elvis became a model soldier in an army facing the unprecedented challenge of building a fighting force for the Atomic Age.
In an era that threatened Soviet-American thermonuclear annihilation, the army declared it could limit atomic warfare to the battlefield. Australian Festival "Elvis Express" tickets Sold Out: The Sydney TrainLink Elvis Express to Parkes Elvis Festival for January 2017 has once again proven to be the most popular mode of transport for rockin’ n rollin’ into Parkes, having sold out all 400 seats in five hours.
A highlight of the Parkes Elvis Festival each year is the Elvis Express, that this year will depart Sydney’s Central Station on January 12, 2017. Tickets went on sale 4 months before the iconic event.
Passengers will be dressed in their finest Elvis costumes and experience live entertainment before arriving at Parkes Railway Station where thousands of locals are expected to welcome them for the festival’s 25th birthday celebrations.

Henrik Knudsen fined $75,000 for use of Graceland name!: Henrik Knudsen of Elvis Unlimited and the "Graceland" Museum Randers in Denmark has been fined $75 thousand in favour of EPE Inc. The payment will be transferred to the accounts of the estate of ABG / EPE.
The Danish commercial court ruled this week that that the Museum of Jutland has violated the rights of the heirs of Presley, copying the American house in Memphis, which still attracts more than 600 thousand visitors a year.
After the lawsuit was filed, the title was changed from "Graceland Randers". The Museum, owned by Henrik Knudsen, the self-proclaimed "professional Elvis fan", collected about six thousand exhibits. After its opening in 2011, he became one of 50 major attractions of Denmark.
Last year, Knudsen admitted that the lawsuit from Elvis Presley Enterprises took him by surprise. He claims that he voiced the idea of creating a Danish Graceland in 2005 and fans of the king

had every opportunity in order to prevent the use of the name of the original estate in the project.
"Everything I did, my heart prompted. I'm a die-hard fan of Elvis, and I was doing all of this with no investment," he says.
The publication notes that the court, obliging the owner of the Museum to pay $ 75 thousand, yet acquitted him on a number of counts, including the sale of counterfeit Souvenirs.
The Elvis Museum was opened in 2011. All the exhibits from the personal collection of Henrik Knudsen. On the eve of the opening of the Museum he claimed to have had the support from ex-wife Priscilla.

Elvis Presley fans will be taking over the seaside town of Porthcawl this weekend 23 - 25 September 2016 as the annual festival returns for its 12th year. |

The largest UK event The Porthcawl Elvis Festival attracts fans and impersonators from all over the world.
Across the weekend there will be artists performing and a string of Elvis competitions.
Thousands of fans have already made the trip to Porthcawl as the festival kicked off on Friday with heat one of this year’s Best Festival Elvis Competition.
Other featured events will be held in the Grand Pavilion including The Three Kings Show, The Elvies, and the Elvis Showband, Red Alert.
The pavilion will also be screening The Gift, an acclaimed short film about Elvis, followed by a Q&A with the producer.
This year’s headliner is American Victor Trevino who, earlier this month, came second in the Ultimate Elvis Competition held in Graceland.
If that wasn’t enough the Hi Tide Inn will also be hosting more than 100 shows throughout the weekend and around 20 other venues in and around the town will be putting on events as part of the Fringe Festival.

New Elvis Biopic Being Shot at Graceland: Weinstein Television is developing the first-ever scripted Elvis Presley television biopic to be shot at Graceland, the company announced on Wednesday.
The eight to ten part series will explore every aspect of the King of Rock n’ Roll’s life with access to Elvis’ personal archives including journals, clothing, automobiles and Graceland. The project is based on the 1982 book “Elvis” by author Dave Marsh.
Priscilla Presley is attached as an executive producer, and the production is working in full partnership with the Presley Estate. Harvey Weinstein and Jerry Schilling will also exec produce.
“I’m a big fan of Harvey Weinstein’s independent films,” said Priscilla. “I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to work with him on this show and tell the story of how Elvis changed the culture of music and initiated a revolution that changed the world.”
No network is currently attached to this Elvis project, but it will be soon be discussed.

Larry Muhoberac, Elvis piano man, in Sydney nursing home: It has been sadly reported that Larry Muhoberac is now living in a nursing home on the Sydney Central Coast. It was Muhoberac who played piano for Elvis' at his sensational Las Vegas return to live performing.
In fact, Larry Muhoberac’s hands have also doubled for Elvis’ in several movie scenes of The King playing the piano.
And while Elvis left the building long ago, Muhoberac who also played alongside Ray Charles, Neil Diamond and Barbra Streisand before moving to Australia with his wife Andra in 1986 - is now living at a nursing home near Sydney.
Sadly Muhoberac’s communication skills are not what they were, after being diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia, but the 79-year-old feels like getting his blue suede shoes on when he hears an Elvis song. |

“Clearly something different and something significant happens when Elvis comes on,” wife Andra said.
In an interview early last year, Muhoberac recalled his first meeting with The King at Graceland.
“My initial impression was that he was very quiet. Nothing outrageous. No outrageous behaviour, at that time he didn’t have all the guards. He had one person at the gate to see who was coming in. I drove up. The guard says, ‘Well, go around back’. I drove up the driveway and went to the back door. He still had a screen-door entrance and everything else.”
He has fond memories of working on four of Elvis’ films — Frankie And Johnny (1966), Paradise Hawaiian Style (1966), Speedway (1968) and Stay Away Joe (1968) after moving to Memphis to find his musical fortune.
“The movie cues, the underscore cues, were done with a full orchestra and a rhythm section but when it came time to do the single songs, which were the performance numbers in the movie, we’d be over at Radio Recorders, which is a more intimate environment for recording, and it would just be the band and a rhythm section and sometimes The Jordanaires and the Anita Kerr Singers,” he recalled.
He remembers working with Elvis, Charles and Streisand with great affection.
“It was great fun and you got to see Hollywood. We were looked after really well. All the times were good.”
Muhoberac said Elvis had “a great feeling for the timing of the song. He contributed that and that was a major contribution. If a song was a little under or over the tempo, Elvis was very aware of that.”
He said he was shocked when he saw Elvis on TV shortly before his death at the age of 42 in 1977.
“You’ve got to realise that (Elvis) was a physical fitness fanatic,” he said.
“Then I saw him on TV and I couldn’t believe it. Something had happened. All the dissipated features, the general lack of physical health. He did not look healthy. He looked very ill.”
“You know, of all the people I have ever worked with the only person people ever ask about is Elvis. At the time you just did your job,” he said.
And with Elvis’ timeless music as a comfort, Muhoberac won’t be lonesome tonight.

Million Dollar Quartet cancels Australian Tour!: Bad news for Aussies - the Australian tour of Tony award winning musical Million Dollar Quartet - announced only two months ago - has now been cancelled. No reason or details have been announced with the 'Australian Tour' still being noted on the MDQ official website.
EIN members are disappointed as we were all looking forward to seeing the award winning production.
The production, inspired by the true story of the famous 1956 recording session which brought together icons Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis and Carl Perkins for the first and only time, was due to open at the Comedy Theatre in Melbourne on December 8, 2016 before heading to Sydney, Gold Coast, Adelaide and Perth.

‘Million Dollar Quartet’ 60th anniversary finale in Vegas: With several shows closing this year in Las Vegas sadly the 'Million Dollar Quartet' show at Harrah’s is also going to close but on December 4, 2016 – sixty years to the day after that famous event on Dec. 4, 1956 when Elvis, Jerry Lee Lewis, Johnny Cash and Carl Perkins all got together for a jam at Sam Phillips’ Records in Memphis.
The show opened in February 2013 and featured a talented cast of actors and musicians who played their own instruments onstage. Those in the current company include original cast members Rob Lyons (Carl Perkins), Martin Kaye (Jerry Lee Lewis) and Marc Donovan ( Sam Phillips). Elvis has been most recently portrayed by Justin Shandor (winner of the 2010 UETA competition in Memphis), and Scott Moreau has played Johnny Cash.
“Million Dollar Quartet” was easily one of the best musicals on The Strip, and is one of the rare shows where performers sing without backing tracks.

Riley Keough shaking things up! Elvis' granddaughter Riley Keough looked sensational as she hit the red carpet at the American Honey premiere in New York on Tuesday
Her latest movie, American Honey, has already garnered praise from critics, winning the Prix du Jury at May's Cannes Film Festival.
Riley - with the striking looks of Elvis mixed with Lisa-Marie - looked sensational on the red carpet as she slipped into a beaded white mini-dress.
The stunning number worked wonderfully with her tanned skin, and showed off her slim pins to their full potential.
As the beauty arrived at the event, she was joined by her stunning co-star Sasha Lane, who lit up the red carpet in a simple golden camisole dress.
Their movie, which also stars Shia LaBeouf, tells the story of a teenage girl who joins a travelling magazine sales crew and gets caught up in a whirlwind of mischief.
Riley has seen a jolt in her career since starring on the series The Girlfriend Experience. She is best known for her work in Magic Mike and Mad Max: Fury Road.
The actress met her husband Ben Smith-Petersen while starring in the film, in which she starred as Capable alongside big names Charlize Theron and Tom Hardy.
Riley and Ben tied the knot in the romantic setting of Napa Valley's vineyards in California last year.

FTD Sept Releases - OUT NOW: The two FTD releases announced for early september are out now and at your Elvis dealer. Meanwhile 'Elvis' Gold Records Vol.4' will be released in a couple of weeks.
- 'Hometown Shows' new FTD CD - The 'Hometown Shows' is another FTD double-CD release this time focusing on Elvis' Memphis performance from 1974/75. It features two legendary shows from the Mid-South Coliseum, Memphis, the March 17, 1974 (evening show) and June 10, 1975 performance.
The March 17, 1974 ES soundboard is a brand new unreleased show, while June 10 1975 is one of Elvis' best mid-seventies concerts which has been previously out on bootleg, most recently on 'Bringing It All Back Home'. An excellent show in GREAT sound.
This 1975 concert provided us with the great Ed Bonja cover photo for the 'From EP Boulevard' album (below) so you know that Elvis was up for a good time!.

'The Wonder of You' 2017 European Tour: Already announced for Australia, now in May 2017 'The Wonder of You' live concert experience featuring ELVIS with a full symphony orchestra live on stage is heading to Europe. They will be performing the King of Rock and Roll’s most well-known rock 'n' roll songs and his tender, heart-wrenching ballads – with a very special personal appearance by Priscilla Presley.
The European dates will follow hot on the heels of six arena concerts in the United Kingdom in November 2016 (see info below) - which are all set to be sold out.
The critically-acclaimed "If I Can Dream" release, as well as its successor album, feature archive recordings of the king’s voice, and new orchestral arrangements of some of his biggest hits along with several surprises.

"Elvis: Truth, Myth & Beyond" New Book: EIN has had a few readers question us about this new book from Lamar Fike. However Marty Lacker has confirmed that it is a book that Lamar wanted to publish - but never managed to finish before
he sadly passed away. The book has been finally completed by Lamar's
cousin (Tommy McDonald) put together from
Lamar's writing with the help of a friend, Harold Eggers. Marty tells
EIN that it is a fine book with some good stories and info within its
covers. Lamar's cousin is a "good guy" and this is what Lamar would have liked to have seen published for the fans.

Elvis first 'Ed Sullivan Show' 60 years ago: Noted as one of the "ten days that rocked America", it was sixty years ago on September 9, 1956 that Elvis appeared on the Ed Sullivan show and rock and roll truly became part of mainstream American culture.
The New York Daily News published their story "Yes, It's Elvis Again!" the following day.
... Boy, make fast those storm windows and call out the bodyguards! Elvis the Pelvis is here again. He was on the Ed Sullivan show last evening.
It was a much-subdued Elvis Presley (CBS-TV, 8 to 9 ) who was introduced from New York by the sardonic Charles Laughton subbing for Sullivan. Facing the cameras in Hollywood, he sang in his usual manner. What that manner is I've already described on several occasions; so there's no need to go into that again.
But I'll say this for the fellow. He merely moved and hopped about a bit; he did not gyrate his pelvis. (I guess we'll have to change his monicker.)
In fact, he gave a completely antiseptic and sterilized performance. Even a prissy spinster could not have objected to it.
Not that Elvis needs to bother. After all, Laughton called attention to the four
gold records on the stage each representing sales of more than a million Presley
Platters. And did his teen-age audience on the Coast scream! They think that the
boy is worth the $50,000 Sullivan is paying him for three
appearances.
Incidentally, there was another singer on the show - Dorothy Sarnoff. Outstanding. And Laughton made a swell emcee."

There was no shoot "from the waist up" rules that first night, as NBC viewers got to see the full Elvis action - legs, hips, and all when he rocked out on Little Richard's 'Ready Teddy' and the smash single 'Hound Dog.' The teenage audience screamed as Elvis grunted, moved his tongue and crossed his eyes - with the camera focused on Elvis censorship seemed irrelevant.
The massive home-audience certainly wasn't offended enought that it changed the channel. The September 9th Sullivan show reached an astounding 82.6 percent of the TV audience - the largest single audience in television history.

'Elvis' Gold Records Vol.4' FTD Release: Following up the success of the FTD Classic Album version of 'Elvis' Golden Records Vol3' the upcoming release of 'Volume 4' has been confirmed.
The original album featured 12 tracks chosen from 1960-1966, 1. Love Letters, 2. Witchcraft, 3. It Hurts Me, 4. What'd I Say, 5. Please Don't Drag That String Around, 6. Indescribably Blue, 7. (You're the) Devil In Disguise, 8. Lonely Man, 9. A Mess Of Blues, 10. Ask Me, 11. Ain't That Loving You Baby, 12. Just Tell Her Jim Said Hello.

(Interview) Bill "Superfoot" Wallace talks to EIN: Bill was full contact Professional Karate Association (PKA) Middleweight Champion from 1974 to 1980. He appeared in numerous films and continues to tour the world presenting seminars on the martial arts.
Bill became good friends with Elvis and the Memphis Mafia, training with him and hanging out at Graceland. In a wide ranging interview, Bill recently talked with EIN’s Nigel Patterson about his life, Elvis, martial arts and some of his friends including Red West, Ed Parker, Chuck Norris and Jackie Chan.

"Elvis, Badger and Bruce Lee" The comic!: Looking back over 25 years 'Badger' was a weird comic - the product of the small press boom of the late ’80s - a product of its time. Badger comic #65 from 1990 was called “Kruisin’ With The King”. The crazy storyline featured the Badger teaming up with Elvis to fight Bruce Lee!
A scuffle in a gas station (sound familiar Elvis fans?) is interrupted by the arrival of a new challenger ELVIS, being driven down the highway in a golden limousine by the star of The Wild Bunch, Warren Oates. Clearly, this is something the Badger wants to get in on, and he cecomes recruited into the King’s inner circle.
It turns out that Elvis’ manager, The Colonel has discovered that Elvis faked his death and went into hiding, and is now trying to smoke him out with threats of new tell-all books and a colorized version of Jailhouse Rock.
The trio heads to Las Vegas but when they arrive at the Little Dragon headquarters, they find the Colonel there with his own new bodyguard - and his name… is Bruce Lee.
EIN just wanted to start this month with something a little different and a crazy Elvis image!

'Road To Nowhere' New Import CD: Out soon is 'Road To Nowhere' from the E.P. Collector label. An audience recording from Louisville, KY, May 21st, 1977. It was the second stop of Elvis’ May 1977 tour and according to Larry Geller, Elvis was in a very bad shape prior the show. Dr. Nick was present in the hotel room, using cold water with ice to make Elvis ready for concert. Listening to this CD, one must say that under those circumstances, Elvis did a remarkably good job! Among the concert highlights are ”That’s All Right“, „You Gave Me A Mountain“ ”Heartbreak Hotel”, ”My Way” and usual show-stopper “Hurt“. The May 21st, 1977 show is previously unreleased in any form and it was never available on the collectors circuit in acceptable sound. The producers have been looking for a good sounding recording for long time. Finally they got a solid sounding tape from an Elvis collector in the USA. Comes in a nice digipak filled with a positive concert review from the local press and a collection of quite decent images taken on May 21st, 1977 in Louisville, KY.

"Reel Cowboys" Honor For Elvis: This year Elvis Presley is to be presented with a "Silver Spur" (The Oscars of Westerns) for his several western films as well as his military service.
The Reel Cowboys are a non-profit organization that has been active for more than 19 years. Each year they produce the famed “Silver Spur Awards”, of which the profits help support various charities, such as “National Veterans Memorial”. Silver Spur honorees are famous celebrities that have worked in westerns, making them Lifetime members of the Reel Cowboys. We are known in 188 countries, and have been labeled “The Oscars of Westerns.”
This year, we are giving a posthumous award to Elvis Presley for his work in several western films (Love Me Tender in 1956, Flaming Star in 1960, and Charro in 1969), as well as honoring him for his military service. Other honorees that will be attending are Ed Faulkner, Richard Herd, Ben Bates (stuntman), and many others. Several other guests that will be attending, are: Morgan Woodward, Bruce Boxleitner, Wyatt McCrea, Janet Arness, Edie Hand (Elvis’ Cousin), Bo Svenson, Louis Gossett Jr., Johnny Crawford, Martin Landau, just to name a few. Also attending is a long-time friend of his, Jerry Schilling, who will be receiving the awards that will be placed at Graceland. New Elvis Festival in Nashville: The new Nashville Elvis Festival is promised to be a premier Elvis event unlike any other, celebrating the music and legacy of Elvis Presley. Fans from around the world will gather in Middle Tennessee March 30-April 2, 2017 for 4 days of celebrity appearances, live music events and on-stage interviews with Elvis' friends and band members - hosted by Tom Brown, a longtime host of select Elvis Week events.
Two special VIP events will feature live recreations of the "'68 Comeback Special" and an Elvis recording session inside one of Music City's top recording studios (featured on the hit series Nashville). Graceland to run Prince's "Paisley Park" Tours!: When Prince died last April aged 57, his fans sent sales of his music soaring - just as happened back in 1977 for Elvis. Six months later Prince fans will be able to remember him via tours though his $10 million Minnesota home "Paisley Park" where he lived and also recorded more than 30 albums. Tours of Paisley Park in Chanhassen, Minn., will start on October 3, and tour tickets go on sale soon.
According to a proposed business plan tickets will cost $38.50 and that tours will last just over an hour. If this sounds familiar to Elvis fans then it will be of no surprise as Graceland Holdings (the company responsible for the Graceland tours) will be running the Paisley Park tours.
Paisley Park certainly doesn't have that "Homely" visual appeal of Elvis' old mansion. Visitor estimates however are 1,500 to 2,000 fans who might tour Prince's home every day during peak season. This puts the figure close to Graceland's 600,000 per year. Of course 30 years after Graceland opened to the public and 39 years after

Elvis' death, the Memphis tourist attraction reached the amazing total of 20 million visitors.
It would be a surprise if Prince's legacy stays as popular for as long.
Despite the likely similarity to the Graceland concept apparently Prince didn't like comparisons as one of his employees told TIME magazine, "Prince doesn't want anybody "to feel like they've walked into Graceland" when visiting Paisley Park."

Paul Simon, Graceland and Elvis: In the mid-80s Paul Simon found himself in a personal and professional slump. A highly publicized reunion with ex-partner Art Garfunkel had been more contentious than desired and his marriage to actress Carrie Fisher had ended in divorce. Simon's fortunes however began to change in a big way on August 25, 1986, with the release of his seventh album "Graceland" which drew heavily on South African township music as well as zydeco. The album would revive Simon's career, selling 16 million copies, nabbing a Grammy for Album Of The Year, and inspiring other Western musicians to start investigating "world music".
While the album's title track has always been noted by Simon as one his top favourites - strangely it was not his original intention to evoke the late Elvis Presley. The repeated line "I'm going to Graceland" was purely a mere placeholder that he had planned to swap for something more appropriate eventually. But the idea of Graceland stayed with him until Simon eventually took an unscheduled visit to Presley's Memphis estate himself. swayed by the sincerity of those who had traveled to the musical landmark to pay their respects to a fallen legend. The song then became the story of a heartbroken divorced man and his young son making a pilgrimage to Graceland in search of redemption.
Though released as a single "Graceland" never made the Billboard Top 50 nevertheless the Graceland album stayed on the chart for nearly two years and sold over 6 million copies worldwide in one year.
Paul Simon said of Elvis, "The first time I heard Elvis' music, I was in a car and I heard the announcer say, "Here's a guy who, when he appears on stage in the South, the girls scream and rush the stage". Then he played 'That's all right, mama'. I thought his name was about the weirdest I'd ever heard. I thought for sure he was a Black guy. Later on I grew my hair like him, imitated his stage act - once I went all over New York looking for a lavender shirt like the one he wore on one of his albums. I felt wonderful when he sang 'Bridge Over Troubled Water', even though it was a touch on the dramatic side - but so was the song."

"Elvis" out on US BluRay: Just two years after Elvis died, Kurt Russell brought him back to life in the original biopic ELVIS about the King of Rock 'n' Roll. Broadcast on ABC in 1979, Elvis marked the first time director John Carpenter would work together in what would become a legendary pairing in film history (Escape From New York, The Thing, Big Trouble In Little China, The Thing and Escape From L.A.)

Ted Torres Wins "Images Of the King" 2016 Contest: There are two major world champion Elvis tribute competitions in Memphis during Elvis Week . One is the heavily EPE sponsored "Ultimate Elvis Tribute Artist" while the other is the original world championship "Images Of The King". In 2016 there were six concerts, four rounds of competition plus their annual St. Jude's Fundraiser. Artists that performed in the festival included Shawn Klush, Cody Ray Slaughter, Ben Portsmouth, Dean Z, Jay Dupuis and David Lee.
From the tough competition the winner of "Images Of The King" Grand Champion 2016 was Ted Torres.
Torres will be touring Norway in November following his world championship win and will be in Berlin at the start of February for 'Stars in Concert' and 'Elvis Das Musical' with the Stamps quartet.
Ted Torres was featured as the soundtrack vocalist for the 2014 independent movie about Elvis called "Nobody".

DJ Fontana gets 'Beale Street Note': During Elvis Week, Elvis' drummer and Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Famer DJ Fontana was surprised by being awarded a "Beale Street Note" from the city of Memphis. This was presented to D.J. at the Official Graceland Insiders Conference. The "Beale Street Walk of Fame" is a volunteer organization that has been presenting Beale Street Notes for the past 25 years. The decision of who should be awarded a special note is done by the committee and this honor is from his musical peers and the Memphis Music Community.
DJ Fontana now joins all the other greats such as Elvis, B.B King, Johnny Cash, Dewey Phillips, Marty Lacker, Bill Black, The Memphis Boys and many many others.

Visiting The King: Sweeter Than Tupelo Honey: Professor James Akenson is now 73 but still teaching at Tennessee Technological University. He remembers seeing Elvis on TV back in 1956 but had never yet visited Tupelo. In 2016 he decided it was time to find out what Elvis' birthplace was all about and published a lovely article about how he discovered that "The King is still very much alive" and it was "Sweeter Than Tupelo Honey".

We finally took the time to go to Tupelo, Mississippi to see The King. Of course, The King is none other than Elvis Aaron Presley. Just think, Elvis ‘Left The Building,’ ‘Crossed Over River Jordan,’ 16 August 1977 some thirty nine years ago. But….The King is still very much alive! We have the picts and video to prove it.

Sadly, Tennessee Technological University had signed a contact to have Elvis perform on campus in Fall, 1977. We ‘woulda-been-there”! Elvis’s death saw an unbelievable outpouring of grief on the local, state, national, and international level. There were songs such as Ronnie McDowell’s The King Is Gone.
... I still remember seeing Elvis on the Tommy Dorsey and the Ed Sullivan television shows. Black and white, of course! What a sensation! I really was too young to imagine the significance of what I saw on those remarkable programs. Little did I imagine that I would be marvelling at Elvis some sixty years later.
.... Yes….the years have deepened my appreciation, love, and enjoyment of Elvis far more than I could have ever imagined back in 1956. Elvis’s national and international reach continues to thrive. After all, young Rockin Raffi Antonyan from France loves Elvis. |

.. Going to Tupelo on a pilgrimage means that over the years I’ve done some reading, viewing, and talking involved with Elvis.
.... The outskirts of Tupelo didn’t make as many Elvis promises as you might have thought. Yes, there was a modest, formal city limits sign, but there wasn’t any ‘Grand Entrance,” grand announcement, of overwhelming power as we drove past the ‘Tupelo City Limit Signs”—sounds like a famous Country Music hit by one J.R. Cash. We felt the Elvis fever though, forgot about checking into our hotel, and went straight to the Elvis Presley Birthplace and Park. Good move on our part! After purchasing our tickets we met Guy Harris, a lifelong friend of Elvis, who told us some fascinating things. Lucky us, Guy Harris was ‘fixin’—as they say in the country- to leave as he had completed his volunteer hours, but he took time out to pose for pictures and do a video interview.
.... We came. We saw. Elvis conquered us in style. Elvis may have left the building but he lives even more deeply in our hearts. Elvis is indeed “The King.”

Glen Spreen, Elvis arranger, has Died: Following a short illness Glen Spreen has passed away- reports FTD author Paul Richardson. Beginning with the American Sound sessions in 1969, Glen Spreen worked as an arranger for Elvis until 1973 - also playing on some sessions. Glen Spreen also worked with Elvis at Nashville's RCA Studio B and has plenty of stories to tell about working with Elvis and arranging the material. Glen Spreen also co-composed two songs that Elvis recorded 'Seeing Is Believing' and 'Holly Leaves and Christmas Trees' with Red West. Paul Richardson had the pleasure of interviewing Glen back in autumn 2015 and his insightful interview was published in ETM&HM magazine #110 and Part 2 in #111.

UPDATED - 'Way Down In The Jungle Room' EIN Review: Released for August 2016 this SONY Legacy pack celebrates the 40th anniversary of Elvis’ last recording sessions which took place in Graceland’s Jungle Room.
The publicity noted the sessions “have been newly mixed by Matt Ross-Spang at Sam Phillips Recording” and “includes both outtakes and in-the-studio dialog, providing a ‘fly-on-the-wall experience’ of what the sessions were like".
Elvis' original 76/77 albums were fairly uninspired collections (bar a few fine singles) and on the original LPs it was almost impossible to glimpse any sign of creative input from Elvis through the syrupy overdubs. It wasn't until the release of FTD’s magnificent ‘The Jungle Room Sessions’ that many fans began to understand the raw emotion, close camaraderie and Elvis’ personal feelings that were revealed by these intimate Graceland sessions.
To produce that same kind of revelation for the 'General Public' would be a very tricky project but that is exactly what the new legacy team has done - and to great effect.

James Burton EIN Interview - Happy Birthday: Coincidentally with James Burton talking about The Jungle Room sessions (see above) - we must note that yesterday was James Burton's 77 birthday.
James Burton started playing guitar as a youngster and by the age of thirteen he was playing semi-professionally. It would be a year later that he was hired to work on the Louisiana Hayride show which broadcast from Shreveport. A few years later he move to Los Angeles to join Ricky Nelson's band before becoming Elvis' chickin'-pickin' "favourite guitarist" in 1969 and performed at every Elvis concert until his fateful demise.
James Burton is still going strong - and back in 2003 EIN called him up and wished him Happy Birthday!

Having now finished the Elvis Files series, Erik Lorentzen is concentrating on his new "Gold Standard Series" where he will expand on certain pivotal moments in Elvis' life enabling Lorentzen to publish yet more newly discovered and previously unpublished photos.
EIN has seen the pile of unreleased Tupelo concert photos and they are astounding.

Linda Thompson - More on her new book: More publicity from Linda Thompson about her new book. She revealed to the Commercial Appeal...
... Linda Thompson and Elvis were watching TV at Graceland when they saw Bruce Jenner compete for the decathlon title at the 1976 Summer Olympics in Montreal.
"We were in bed cheering him on," Thompson said. "Sure enough, he crosses the finish line. He's the picture of health and All-American good looks. Elvis looks at me: 'I'm not gay, but that's one good-looking guy right there.' I said, 'Yeah, he sure is. Matter of fact, I'm going to marry him one day.' Elvis said, 'Over my dead body!'
"It was a joke at the time. I think he tackled me in the bed or something after that."
A year later, Elvis died. Thompson met Jenner two years later. They dated and were married.
A former Memphian, Thompson recounts her years with Elvis and her marriage to Jenner, now Caitlyn Jenner, in her new book, "A Little Thing Called Life: On Loving Elvis Presley, Bruce Jenner, and Songs in Between."
Thompson met Elvis at the old Memphian theater, which the King rented for a movie showing for his cohorts. "He burst through the side door dressed as Dracula — flared pants, black cape with red lining and sunglasses on," she said. "It was July 6, 1972, and it was sweltering hot in Memphis. So humid and hot. I was kind of taken aback by how he was dressed." Elvis shined a flashlight in the faces of people in the theater. When the light hit Thompson, he said, "Oh, hello, honey." |

"And kind of sauntered over in this Elvis-esque manner," said Thompson, who then was introduced to the King with her new "Miss Tennessee Universe" title. "I had no designs on him. I was very cordial as Miss Tennessee, (with the) beauty queen smile fixed on my face."
Elvis changed seats so he could sit next to her. "I was a little pert: 'To what do we owe this honor? We're kind of dressed as Dracula tonight. Well, why are you dressed like that?'"
Elvis said, "Honey, I just stepped from an air-conditioned car to an air-conditioned building."
They hit it off. They both had the "same slightly acerbic" sense of humor, Thompson said. "Not mean-spirited. We looked for the inane in every situation. He was one of the funniest people I met in my life. I think more than anything he just loved to laugh. He found humor even in the darkest of situations."
Elvis and Thompson spent 4½ years together. "It would be hard to have met him and spent any time with him and not to have liked him or loved him. He was that kind of charismatic, sincere, authentic, warm and generous spirit. A really unique human being."
Thompson and Elvis broke up around Christmas 1976. "I did not break up with him because I didn't love him anymore. I'll probably love him till the day I die. In fact, I'm sure I will. There's always a place in my heart for him. But I wanted more for my life. I wanted to be a mother. Live a more normal life. I knew Elvis was not monogamous. We could get married, but he'd have other women. His prescription drug problem had gotten worse when I was with him. It would ebb and flow, but it would never go away."

In 1979, Thompson presented an award to Jenner at a charity event. A regular on TV's "Hee Haw," she was introduced as a "Hee Haw Honey" and a former Miss Tennessee Universe. "I was just a little ingénue. A newbie out there. He was separated from his wife. And we just gradually started dating. We both really liked each other a lot." -
They dated for 1½ years and were married in 1981.
Thompson never suspected Jenner was transgender. "Not a clue in the world. Just like the rest of the world. I thought he was the most virile, manly man I had ever met. This was a guy!"
Her sons now are in their 30s, Thompson said. "Bruce was not a great father," she said. "Not a participatory parent. He was out of their lives for many years, but they have learned to forgive him, which, I think, is another great lesson in this. I hope people perceive this book in the same spirit I was writing it — love, acceptance, tolerance, compassion. The kids have embraced all those noble qualities and incorporated them into who they are. And made me so proud the way they've embraced Caitlyn. They're not ashamed. That's part of life. That's who she is.
"It's the same quality I found in Elvis. You have to be able to find the humor in almost every situation. And the irony. And be abe to embrace life and let it flow through you."
Thompson has moved on. "In fact, another title for the book could have been, 'Elvis and Bruce Jenner have left the Building.'" -

Graceland Candlelit Vigil 2016: An estimated 8,000 fans
gathered this year at the Graceland gates to remember the king. The
numbers of fans who stayed to walk through the gates was not helped by
the atrocious weather with rain pouring down throughout most of the
evening. Presented by Elvis Country Fan Club this year's theme was 'The
Impossible Dream'.
Graceland public relations director Kevin Kern described 2016 as “an average Elvis Week" especially in comparison to next year’s Elvis Week which will mark the 40th anniversary of Presley’s death as well as the opening of a new $45 milllion Elvis entertainment complex, which will be be “massive.”
As a fan noted, "To actually walk up the driveway and then through the Meditation Garden surrounded by other fans all in quiet remembrance is unlike anything else. The love and passion for Elvis and all he did is contagious and can truly be felt at the Candlelight Vigil."

... "So there we were, about a block south of Graceland. The call had come down for the riot team to move into position, the protesters were getting out of hand. So we dressed in as the rain began to fall and got into position. The line looked like some kind of modern day Roman legion with armor of plastic and Kevlar instead of leather and bronze. Hickory sticks and pistols took the place of sword and spear.

We stood there waiting for the order to move up. Ready to go and feeling that anticipation before the action, time seemed to stand still for a moment when lightning cracked across the sky above us. Imagine, just at the second when things are going to get hairy four things happen at once.
Lightning flashes. From behind us Elvis starts singing "Are You Lonesome Tonight". The rain comes down by the bucket and everyone is drenched instantly. -
The crowd disperses.
So I ask you, did Elvis stop the violence that was about to break loose in front of his home? This was a scene from a movie and very cool to be a part of.
The other officers standing next to me felt the same way, it was surreal. I've never been a real Elvis fan but I think I am now!"

Big Sales at Elvis Auction: The bidding was fast and furious, with the 200 different Elvis collectibles generate some $730,000 in overall sales.
associated with the King commanded ransoms befitting royalty during Saturday's Elvis Presley auction at Graceland.
The items were offered by third-party collectors from around the world, as bidding took place online, on the phone and live at the Graceland Archive Studio.
The most significant and hotly contested item during the auction was a "Birth Record" from Presley's delivering physician, the historical document after a fierce volley of bids was won by Elvis Presley Enterprises' archivist Angie Marchese for $87,500 so it can be put on display as part of Graceland's museum exhibits.
Other Big Sale numbers were
- Elvis' Black Star Sapphire ring worn gifted to his bodyguard Al Strada sold for $35,000 on an estimate of $15,000
- 1911 Indian Head Gold $2 ½ Coin and Diamond Ring, which Elvis wore in the 1970s sold for $40,000.
- Black shirt, pants and gold metal belt ensemble, sold for $37,500

- Red and white western style pants from "Loving You” for $42,000 on an estimate of $15,00 to $20,000; - The offered iconic, western-style red pants, with bold white piping elements (see right), were produced for the film and featured in several scenes, as they were part of Deke Rivers’ “on-stage” performing wardrobe, which also included a satin shirt and scarf, also in the same style.

Elvis New RPO release - Kentucky Rain sample: The second volume of Elvis remixed with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra' is due out in October 2016.
Originally EIN reported on December 27 last year that album producer Don Reedman noted that plans were underway for a new Elvis Gospel album featuring the RPO. Perhaps plans have changed, or more likely Gospel material will also be included in the new RPO album.

Restoration work about to begin at Elvis’ Circle G Ranch: As the faithful gather in Memphis for Elvis Week events, work is about to heat up just to the south at Presley's former Circle G Ranch in Horn Lake.
Destin, Florida-based real estate developer Davage "Buddy" Runnels Jr., who bought the property at Goodman Road and Miss. 301 in 2014 for an undisclosed price, says the first visible steps are at hand toward creating what he hopes will be become a showcase destination for Elvis fans visiting Graceland.
"Within the next 120 days, there will be work people can see," Runnels said Friday. He said those initial steps include relocating the cottage where Elvis and Priscilla honeymooned in 1967 to another spot on the property and starting work on a stable reconstruction project.
The work, when it begins, will represent tangible evidence of a massive and ambitious plan that in time calls for a sprawling, musically-themed "leisure entertainment destination." Runnels' vision includes a $3.2 million first phase that he said in April he hoped to have complete within a year.
Included in long-range are restoration of the honeymoon cottage and stables, a restaurant, a "dynamic water display" with fountains on the property's 14-acre lake and construction of a memorial to children killed in the Holocaust.
Less visible, but equally important to the project moving forward, is infrastructure work by Horn Lake, also about to begin.
Elvis bought the ranch in the 1960s as a getaway that would still be near Graceland. After he and Priscilla married, they spent part of their honeymoon there, but the property has fallen into disrepair in the years since Elvis' death.

Two New FTD Releases: Two new FTD releases have been announced for early september.
- 'Hometown Shows' new FTD CD - The 'Hometown Shows' is another FTD double-CD release this time focusing on Elvis' Memphis performance from 1974/75. It features two legendary shows from the Mid-South Coliseum, Memphis, the March 17, 1974 (evening show) and June 10, 1975 performance.
The March 17, 1974 ES soundboard is a brand new unreleased show, while June 10 1975 is one of Elvis' best mid-seventies concerts which has been previously out on bootleg, most recently on 'Bringing It All Back Home'. It is an excellent show and in GREAT sound.
This 1975 concert provided us with the great Ed Bonja cover photo for the 'From EP Boulevard' album (below) so you know that Elvis was up for a good time!.
Note that the last few songs of the June 10 1975 were not recorded and have been replaced here with the same songs from the previous day in Jackson, Mississippi. |

Elvis & 'RPO' Orchestra Tour Australia 2017: Following on from the release of last year’s incredible million-selling album, "If I Can Dream" comes the announcement of a 2017 tour of Australia and New Zealand for this new "live concert experience" featuring Elvis Presley backed by a new Orchestra backing.
This follows on from the six date UK run in November.

while in the US it disappointingly only made #21 in the Billboard charts. The album used archive recordings of The King’s voice featuring new orchestral arrangements of some of his biggest hits.
This will be re-created in concert using a 40-piece orchestra to replicate the original album work of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.
Now Australian and New Zealand fans will have a chance to experience the man who changed the course of popular music live on screen, with a full 40-piece Orchestra live on stage performing the King of Rock and Roll’s most well-known “rocking” songs and his tender, heart-wrenching ballads.

UPDATED - Paul Dowling EIN Interview Part Three: Paul Dowling is without doubt one of the major names in the Elvis World. He started collecting and selling Elvis vinyl over 40 years ago and has one of the world's largest Elvis Presley record collections. He started his "WorldWide Elvis" shop back in the seventies, way before the internet, where fans could get hold of rare Elvis records and memorabilia.
With such a fascination with Elvis, Dowling not only became a big name in the early years of Elvis bootlegs but later became friends with Ernst Jorgensen and helped RCA with various official releases.

On the 60th anniversary the snap was taken, she has revealed how her friends dared her to prank call his hotel in Charleston after they had seen the star perform.
'The operator answered and I said "Elvis Presley's room please,"' she told WTVR. Barbara, then 21 and known as Bobbi Owens, said she ended up chatting to Elvis for around an hour. At the time he was still touring around the country, but was still far from the level of stardom he would reach in the next decade.

But Elvis was curious about the random woman who had called up to his room, so he invited her to his next concert in Virginia. Two days later the pair met up at the Hotel Jefferson in Richmond, and it would be the start of a short yet racy liaison.
'He just reached out and hugged me, I didn't know what to say. It was like I was numb.'
'Elvis turned around and I almost fainted. He was absolutely gorgeous. I just melted.'
They then went to the Mosque Theater where The King was due to appear that night. While they were backstage, he leaned in for a kiss, but Barbara said no.
'I said no I'm not. He said: 'Yes you are,' she added. 'And he was just quick enough to just lean forward and stick his tongue out and that is how quick it happened.'

'Speedway' - FTD Soundtrack Album Review: Speedway was Elvis' very last Soundtrack album. With the intention of recreating the dynamic atmosphere of 1963’s Viva Las Vegas, MGM cast hot property Nancy Sinatra as Elvis’ co-star but there was no chemistry between them. The original session took place on the MGM soundstage and the recordings flooded in echo sounded terrible. Luckily the four-track MGM Masters still exist and have been remixed for this release creating the best quality recordings we have to date.
With only ‘Let Yourself Go’ and 'Suppose' as the stand out tracks the album was a very dull affair
However several previously unreleased outtakes of the Bonus songs ‘Mine’ and ‘Goin’ Home’ are also included here, help add interest and make CD 1 a packed 79 minutes.
Remarkably with such lacklustre original material FTD have managed to create a rather worthy classic soundtrack album.

All Shook Up - EIN Spotlight: Composer Otis Blackwell liked to boast that he could write a song about anything. So when music publisher and lyricist Aaron ‘Goldie’ Goldmark dropped a Pepsi on the floor and urged Blackwell to turn that into a hit, the songwriter did precisely that.
But Elvis' classic 1957 hit All Shook Up wasn't the first version released - what Elvis managed to do was to transform the demo into something unique with a playfulness, sense of freedom and simple instrumentation that were all reminiscent of the more innocent, earlier understated sound of Sun Records.

'ELVIS Las Vegas 1975' FTD CD Review: FTD This FTD double-album features two of Elvis' best concerts from his Las Vegas March/April 1975 season.
The March 22 Midnight show is considered one of the best concerts of the season and was first released on the Fort Baxter bootleg 'A Profile Vol. 2' while the April 1st Dinner Show captures an enthusiastic Elvis in great humor.
The last time RCA rolled their tapes across an Elvis concert was twelve months before and now his set-list included EIGHT new songs not performed in Memphis back in ‘74. It was ridiculous that this season was never recorded professionally.
Throughout the season Elvis was in fine voice and the excellent set-list includes 'Big Boss Man', 'It's Midnight', 'Promised Land', 'My Boy', 'Fairytale' as well as the one-off 'You're The Reason I'm Living'.

'ELVIS On Television The Complete Sound Recordings' Review: The 60th anniversary of Elvis’ first appearance on national television is celebrated with this 2CD/100-page set.
The new MRS box-set was publicised as containing the complete archival recordings of Elvis Presley’s television appearances from 1956-60. For the first time ever, these tracks been painstakingly remastered and restored.
The recordings contain all song tracks, comedy sketch routines and interviews including the extended Wink Martindale interview.
The 100-page book is a chronological photo journey following Elvis from the very first in 1956, to his appearance on The Frank Sinatra show in 1960. It contains liner notes accompanied by many rare and new unpublished photographs.
In the individual chapters Gordon Minto provides the main details and highlights of each TV performance. Matching the text, each chapter features around 15 pages of significant photographs, a surprising number of the in colour.

28 June, 2016 - Scotty Moore - Guitar Legend, Has Died: EIN has just been informed that the guitar legend Scotty Moore passed away a few hours ago. He was 84.
Trevor Cajiao (of ETM&HM) has verified this truly sad news.
Scotty Moore was in the delivery room when Rock & Roll was born, kicking and howling in the Tennessee night. Without the driving force and support of Scotty Moore, the start of Elvis Presley's career would have been very different.
On July 5, 1954, it was guitarist Scotty Moore, bass player Bill Black and a newcomer from Tupelo, Mississippi, by the name of Elvis Aaron Presley that recorded ‘That's All Right’ at the Memphis Recording Service - the world was never to be the same again.’
It is noteworthy that 'That's All Right' (Sun 209) was credited to "Elvis Presley, Scotty and Bill." Scotty, Bill Black & D.J Fontana were Elvis' key musicians through to 1958 when Elvis went into the army. Scotty Moore would return for Elvis' all important 1960 recording sessions and would keep on working with Elvis until the 1968 Comeback show.

Paul Dowling EIN Interview Part Two: Paul Dowling is without doubt one of the major names in the Elvis World. He started collecting and selling Elvis vinyl over 40 years ago and has one of the world's largest Elvis Presley record collections. He started his "WorldWide Elvis" shop back in the seventies, way before the internet, where fans could get hold of rare Elvis records and memorabilia.

Did Elvis Record 'Tiger Man' At Sun?: A question that has puzzled Elvis fans through the years is whether he actually recorded the song ‘Tiger Man’ during his years at SUN studios.
The basic question is why did Elvis refer to 'Tiger man' several times in concert as “The second song that I ever recorded, not too many people heard it”?
And if Elvis DID record it, then why hasn’t any reference to it at SUN or proof of its existence been found?
Elvis would first perform ‘Tiger Man’ in concert at his first 1969 Las Vegas International season and would continue playing it through the years – usually in a medley with Mystery Train - until his last performance at Saginaw on May 3 1977. He would sing it over 150 times on stage!
The thought that there might be an acetate or undiscovered tape of Elvis at SUN singing ‘Tiger Man’ is a mouth-watering concept - but is it an unlikely fantasy or strong possibility?
