Saturday 29 October 2016 - - - ELVIS BACK AT UK NUMBER ONE - - -
Elvis smashes UK all-time Official Albums Chart record with 13th Number 1: ELVIS is still The King of the Official Chart almost 40 years after his passing, as his new album The Wonder Of You earns him a historic 13th Number 1 this week.
It also marks the most Number 1 albums achieved by any solo artist in the UK ever.
The second collection of orchestral re-workings of Elvis’ hits with the RPO shifted 63,500 to land straight in at Number 1.
While 13 may be an unlucky number for some, for Elvis it means a new chart record has been set - The King now has more Number 1 albums than any solo act in Official Chart history, overtaking the still very-much-alive Madonna’s 12 chart-toppers.
The Beatles hold the overall record for the most chart-topping albums in the UK, with 15 to their name.
Priscilla Presley told OfficialCharts, “This achievement is something I know Elvis would have been so thankful for."
Michael Bublé had to settle for second place this week with his ninth studio album Nobody But Me, while Lady Gaga’s Joanne finishes at Number 3.
Elsewhere in the Top 10 another oldie Leonard Cohen’s 14th LP You Want It Darker debuted at Number 4.

The Guest House at Graceland Opens: Graceland’s new, world-class, 450-room resort, The Guest House at Graceland, welcomed its first guests yesterday when Priscilla Presley joined Graceland executives to cut the “blue suede ribbon” to signify the official opening for the $92 million luxury property. Among the first guests to check in were Elvis Presley’s family members, friends and musicians, along with Elvis fans and Graceland visitors from around the world.
Inspired by Elvis’ personal style and the iconic Graceland Mansion, The Guest House at Graceland is the most significant enhancement to Graceland since it opened to the public in 1982, and the largest hotel project in Memphis in over 90 years. The resort hotel, which is situated just steps from Graceland Mansion, features 430 guest rooms and 20 specialty suites with design and décor supervised by Priscilla Presley.
The new luxury resort kicks off an era of expansion for Graceland, with development of a new 200,000 square foot entertainment complex, Elvis: Past, Present & Future, now under construction and scheduled to open in March 2017.
The Grand Opening Celebration Weekend events, open only to guests staying at the resort, included an “Elvis in Vegas” celebration concert featuring musician Terry Mike Jeffrey and legendary members of Elvis’ original “TCB Band,” James Burton, Glen D. Hardin and Ronnie Tutt; and a special broadcast of SiriusXM’s Elvis Radio Channel.
“Elvis Unplugged” with musician Andy Childs and acclaimed Elvis session musicians Norbert Putnam and David Briggs is planned for Saturday evening, and “The Gospel Side of Elvis,” featuring former members of JD Sumner and Stamps Quartet plus The Imperials’ Terry Blackwood is scheduled for Sunday morning.
A special “Auction at Graceland” is taking place this Saturday, October 29 at 3:00 p.m.
The NBC TODAY show included a special presentation to fans on the new Guest House, but strangely despite Priscilla stating that "Elvis was part of the whole design" fans can see that there are NO ELVIS PHOTOS or ELVIS LOGOS anywhere in the new Hotel.
Surely if you want to stay in an ELVIS THEMED HOTEL you need some "ELVIS"! What is EPE thinking?

Elvis Heads For UK Chart Record: With 6 hours to go before this week's UK Official Album chart is declared, Elvis Presley looks like being returned to the top UK #1 album - and is heading for a chart record.
Fans are still proclaiming “The wonder of Elvis” nearly 40 years after his death. The second collection of re-workings of his hits with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra (The Wonder Of You) is likely to leave the charts all shook up yet again. Its No. 1 rank would also give a record-breaking 60 years since his first British chart-topper in 1956.
If it holds on, it will also give Presley the most British No. 1 albums of any solo artist ever, ahead of Madonna with 12. The Beatles hold the record for the most chart-topping albums on the Official Chart, with 15.
On the mid-week count Elvis 'The Wonder of You' was leading the #2 Michael Bublé 'Nobody But Me' by around 6 thousand physical sales.
Very soon we will find out.
Elvis already made headlines with the album’s predecessor, If I Can Dream, which sold 1.6 million copies globally.

'Long Black Limousine' EIN Spotlight: Elvis' fabulous 'Long Black Limousine' was composed by Vern Stovall and Bobby George and first released in 1958 by Wynn Stewart.
Cut at the Memphis Sessions in 1969 Elvis transformed Long Black Limousine from a country ballad to "a vehicle for savage social protest”.
The lyric is complex, the relationship between the narrator and his love remains unclear. The performance Elvis recorded on 13 January 1969 is full of funereal foreboding, arguably his darkest performance since Heartbreak Hotel and How’s The World Treating You?

Go here as respected author Paul Simpson takes a close look at this powerful song from Elvis' 1969 Memphis sessions...

Priscilla, 'My fear is that people will forget about Elvis': Priscilla was recently interviewed by the UK Guardian for a promo on the new album/ UK tour.
The interview included these comments from Priscilla..
- Growing up in the spotlight has been a battle. The lack of privacy, these days especially, can be hard work. Everyone’s got a camera phone so it’s not unusual to be sitting down for dinner with friends and find that someone is taking a photo as I’m forking salad into my mouth. I’m always on guard.
- My fear is that people will forget about Elvis. I feel a responsibility for keeping his legacy alive. You’ll never see his sort of stardom again. He was so authentic and, in lots of ways, innocent. What you saw was what you got.
- Elvis would have found modern times difficult. He was an intensely private man who was quite protected by his inner circle. The way he lived then wouldn’t be possible in 2016. Our lives – whether you’re famous or not – are so public now.
- Our family has always been very close. My parents are still alive: they’re 90 and 91. They live with me and while it’s an honour to still have them in my life, watching them get older makes me feel really sad.
- Bill Clinton has a charisma that commands your attention. It’s the only time other than with Elvis that I’ve felt someone has had that. When Bill is in a space, the whole rooms feels it. He’s magnetic.
- I really wish people would stop asking me what my favourite Elvis song is.

Leonardo DiCaprio to play Sam Phillips in Upcoming Biopic: Leonardo DiCaprio has signed on to produce and star in an upcoming, still-untitled biopic about Sun Records founder Sam Phillips, the rock pioneer who produced landmark records by Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Carl Perkins and many more.
Mick Jagger will also serve as a producer on the Paramount Pictures film, based on the Peter Guralnick's book Sam Phillips: The Man Who Invented Rock 'N' Roll. According to Deadline, Jagger will hold a similar role in helping to foster the Phillips story to the silver screen as the Rolling Stones singer played on the HBO music drama Vinyl.
Two years ago Jagger's company was also working on the film of Elvis' early life based on Guralnick's 'Last Train To Memphis' being directed by Kevin MacDonald but no more has been heard of the production.
Phillips founded the Memphis-based Sun Records in 1952, setting up the famed Sun Studio, where Presley laid down his earliest recordings, including first single "That's All Right," considered one of the earliest rock n' roll releases.
In addition to his string of hits on the Sun label, Phillips also oversaw the legendary and impromptu Million Dollar Quartet session in December 1956, when Presley, Cash, Perkins and Jerry Lee Lewis performed together. Phillips, who also championed for integration in the 1950s, died in 2003.
While DiCaprio's Appian Way secured the rights to Sam Phillips: The Man Who Invented Rock 'N' Roll, Variety reports that the role of the Sun Records honcho likely won't be the actor's first big screen role since his Oscar-winning turn in The Revenant.
DiCaprio and Davisson will produce along with Guralnick, Mick Jagger, Victoria Pearman, Steve Bing, Rick Yorn.

Trisha Yearwood, Charlie Daniels and Elvis: Last Sunday country performer Charlie Daniels was inducted into the 2016 class of the Country Music Hall of Fame.
Jamey Johnson and Trace Adkins paid tribute to the leader of the Charlie Daniels' Band but it was Trisha Yearwood who impressed most performing the little-known song "It Hurts Me."
"I'm doing a ballad that he wrote that was originally recorded by Elvis, so I'm kinda the wild card, a little bit," she laughed. "And I'm a huge Elvis fan, and I knew the song, but I didn't know Charlie wrote it. So I don't think people are expecting somebody to come out and sing a ballad for Charlie, but that's what I'm gonna do!"
Trisha Yearwood  is a life-long Elvis fan and in winter 2015 kicked off the Graceland Christmas festival with an acoustic performance.
Fellow Hall of Famer Brenda Lee did the honors, as the esteemed institution welcomed Charlie into its ranks.

Richard Nixon Museum Re-Opens: The recently renovated Richard Nixon Presidential Library and Museum is now open and tells the former president's story through larger-than-life photographs, interactive touchscreens and video of Nixon's speeches.
The museum reopened following a $15million makeover. a.
'It just wasn't technologically savvy, and we needed to bring it into the 21st century,' said the library's director.
Unlike a more traditional gallery, the museum tries to put visitors in Nixon's shoes.
After the film, visitors walk down a hallway covered with ceiling-to-floor colorful photographs of the social turmoil of the 1960s to give a sense of the country Nixon inherited upon his election.
The next stop is a life-size replica of the Oval Office where Nixon worked in the White House.
Of course there can be no history of Nixon without Elvis fans thinking of their all too famous meeting.

"Heart 'n' Soul And Some Mighty Fine Rock 'n' Roll"  New Import: Out soon from the  E. P. Collector label is "From Japan With Love Vol. 1" recorded live at the Hilton Hotel, Las Vegas, NV, August 8th 1972 Midnight show.
Titled 'Heart 'n' Soul And Some Mighty Fine Rock 'n' Roll'  it is a 1972 audience recording subtitled "From Japan With Love Vol. 1" because it was recorded by a member of a Japanese fan club.
The Las Vegas, August 8th, 1972 Midnight show is previously unreleased. This concert was never before available in listenable sound, until now! It was taken from a recently found first generation copy of an original audience recorded master cassette tape and digitally restored for your listening pleasure.
This concert is excellent!! Actually all shows from 1972 Summer Festival are. Highlights are "You've Lost That Lovin' Feelin'", "What Now My Love", ''Little Sister / Get Back" and early, humble version of "My Way".
More CDs taken from "Japanese" tapes are planned.

'Sunset In Vegas' / 'A Night In Saginaw' New Import CDs:  Touchdown Productions label have two new releases both are audience recordings.
'Sunset In Vegas' presents the midnight show from August 23, 1974 in Las Vegas for the first time in complete form. The show was first released in 1993 as 'Vegas Birthday Show', but it was incomplete and missed three songs from the show. The sound quality is very good for an audience recording. The show itself is a good one.
Elvis wasn't very talkative and was focused on singing and entertaining the audience.
'A Night In Saginaw' features the show from April 25, 1977 in Saginaw. The concert was released for the first time in 1994. The soundquality is significantly better as Touchdown Productions was able to find a new source.
After the very good concert in Ann Arbor the day before, Elvis also offered in Saginaw a very solid show with nice versions of 'Heartbreak Hotel', 'Little Sister' and a mighty fine version of 'My Way'.
Also included are six former released songs, newly remastered.

UPDATED with YOUR Comments - RPO tours WITHOUT the RPO: Have EPE lost the plot completely?: As EPE is about to embark on its latest venture, the 'Royal Philharmonic Orchestra' (RPO) tours, I think there's some questions that need to be asked, and some points that deserve to be raised.
The 2015 album of 'Elvis with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra' was a massive-seller both in Europe and Australia. To capitalise on this new chart success EPE have planned a worldwide tour featuring "Elvis" on stage backed by a 40-piece orchestra.
While 'If I Can Dream' was a huge success with the general public, the CD divided opinions among the hard-core Elvis collectors. The new "Elvis with the R.P.O" tour is bound to do the same.
However EPE has decided to save money by apparently using local "Pick-up" orchestras instead.
Go here as EIN contributor Arjan Deelen looks back at EPE's previous "Elvis Tours" and asks some tricky questions about this new Elvis - RPO money-making venture.
Reader's feedback so far includes
- Arjan is spot on! The years 2015/2016 have shown more clearly than ever that EPE are just out for the $.
- I disagree, no where on the poster does it state RPO would be performing ..  I and many others thought that Elvis Presley On Stage was a very good show indeed, TCB band are not as good as they once where.
- Arjan is correct, a 40 piece pick-up orchestra is a very different affair to the 82 piece RPO - or similar sized orchestras.
- An evening with friends enjoying Elvis accompanied by local musicians is not a bad thing as long as that's understood, BUT... the RPO and EPE have made a LOT of money off this, and I expect the full, honest-to-God, RPO to appear in Memphis at Elvis Week 2017
- What EPE are doing today is what Parker did with most of Elvis' career.
- Personally I have no problem that the Australian concerts are going to be without the RPO Orchestra.
I am grateful that's its touring Australia at all.

'The Wonder Of You' Album Review: The first independent media reviewer (from The Irish Examiner) gives the new album 3/5.
.... Thirty-nine years since Elvis' death, the deluge of ‘new’ Presley releases show little sign of receding. There have been 13 posthumous Presley albums in the past two years alone. Now there comes another: a revisiting of some of the King’s most iconic ballads with newly recorded accompaniment by Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.
The classical augmentations are for the most part respectful and understated. A swirl of strings and horns fleshes out the bottomless melancholy of ‘Always On My Mind’ while ‘The Wonder Of You’ negotiates the artery-clogging embellishment more or less unscarred.
Yet there are moments when the urge to over-egg proves irresistible, with ‘Suspicious Minds’ floundering under layers of treacly strings and ‘I Just Can’t Help Believin’, a tune plenty dramatic to begin with, weighed down with over-wrought brass and an instrumental break that sucks the track’s lifeblood.
The Wonder Of You was conceived by 71-year-old ex-wife Priscilla, who has devoted the latter half of her life to keeping Presley in the public eye.
“I’m aware that there are a lot of Elvis purists out there, but he and the Royal Philharmonic fit so well,” she said .“People don’t realise that he loved classical music: he would listen to Brahms and Mozart, as well as gospel and blues.”
That may be so and, with an earlier hook-up with the same orchestra, 2015’s If I Can Dream, selling more than two million units worldwide, the financial imperatives for the new project are clear . Yet the best bits here are when the orchestra is scarcely noticeable and Elvis has the floor to himself. It’s when he is shoved aside that the whiff of cash-in becomes hard to ignore.

"Elvis Presley for President!": Phil Reisman of the USA Today network suggests "Elvis Presley for President!"
Maybe you’ve just watched the third and last presidential debate, and you can’t take it anymore. You can’t bring yourself to vote for Donald Trump, Hillary Clinton or the two third-party candidates whose names you can’t remember. To your tired mind, they’re all unacceptable.
What do you do?
Well, you could sit this one out. That is certainly an option, but such a passive act of voter protest might fail to satisfy a deep-seated need to creatively vent your disgust.
Still, there is another alternative: the fabled write-in vote.
This depressingly bizarre presidential election cycle could be a banner year for Elvis Presley, Mickey Mouse, Batman, Santa Claus and the many other write-in “candidates,” real or imagined, who invariably scrounge votes from the vast army of the disaffected.
Reginald Lafayette, commissioner of County Board of Elections, said a high write-in count would not surprise him, “particularly in an election like this.” Often, he said, voters simply write in, “Me.”
“They used to write in ‘Grampa Munster’ a lot,” Lafayette added, referring to the TV character played by Al Lewis, who once ran for governor of New York.
Of course, many voters take the write-in option seriously. Diehard supporters of Bernie Sanders, for instance, do not consider it a joke or even a waste of their vote to pencil in the Vermont senator’s name. Indeed, in the annals of write-ins, Sanders could do quite well.
But in this weird election, anything seems possible.
Why, just the other day, I'm certain I saw Elvis shopping at Wal-Mart.
I told him I’d vote for him. “Thank you,” he said. “Thank you, very much.”

Elvira got career advice from Elvis: Actress Cassandra Peterson’s road to becoming horror icon Elvira was long and winding, but one of the more fascinating steps involved her getting career from Elvis Presley while the teenage Peterson was working as a showgirl in Las Vegas.
“I was 17 when I started as a showgirl in Las Vegas,” says Peterson, who has just published a coffee table book of photographs featuring her alter-ego, called Elvira—Mistress of the Dark. “I’ve been told I was the youngest showgirl in Las Vegas history, and I imagine that’s probably true. My parents had to sign a document with a lawyer, saying it was okay for me to work in the show. I was at the Dunes Hotel in a show called Viva Les Girls. It was really odd. I had to come and go by the back door. I was not allowed to go into the casino, drink, gamble. But I was allowed to dance onstage in my skivvies! Isn’t that bizarre? I tell people that story and they don’t believe it. I don’t believe it myself. It was a very very weird thing, 17 and dancing in Vegas.”

“Elvis came to see my show. He invited me to a party at his suite, along with lots of other people, and he really kind of took to me, I think because I was 17, and probably all the other showgirls there were in their 30s. Anyway, I loved Elvis. I had grown up with Elvis being one of my idols. My parents were giant Elvis fans. The fact that I was meeting Elvis was beyond belief. We did hang out one whole evening, a whole night, the next morning, and mostly talked, believe it or not.

There was some kissing going on. But Elvis was watched very closely, since they were aware that I was [very young]. But he couldn’t have been more wonderful and I really do credit him with changing my life. I, at the time, thought I had reached the pinnacle of show business, becoming a Las Vegas showgirl. Elvis convinced me that this was no town for a young girl to be in, by herself, and that it would not lead to bigger and better things, that if I really wanted to make it in show business that I needed to get the Hell out of Vegas. So, I always say to people, I started out as the youngest showgirl in Vegas and, if it wasn’t for Elvis, I would now be the oldest showgirl. -
My God, can you imagine? Aye-yai-yai!”

New ‘The Wonder Of You’ Elvis with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra:With perfect synchronicity to our EIN Spotlight above, another promotional track for the new Elvis Presley with the Royal Philharmonic album has been released.
This time it is 'The Wonder of You' which as an original single had a powerful Glen Hardin orchestral arrangement and dripped with a stunning live lead vocal from Elvis. The 1970 single made #1 in Europe - so why tinker with is now? Was it not good enough?
Album producer Don Reedman says, “When Elvis decided to put it into his Las Vegas act I loved the way he put his energy and passion into the song and made the lyric so uplifting and positive. But I felt it could sound bigger and better with our production with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and would be a wonderful song to finish the album. That's why I felt it was the right song to title the album with; it leaves you feeling uplifted and joyful, the way Elvis liked to make his audience and fans feel.”
Sadly this new version makes EIN feel a little sick. Possibly their worst re-version yet.
The orchestra now sounds like "Elevator-muzak" and the original power and emotion of Elvis SINGING WITH THE ORCHESTRA LIVE ON STAGE has been removed. Elvis discussed and approved of the original orchestral arrangement - this is embarrassing. - Go HERE to VEVO to listen

‘Memphis Recording Service: The Complete Works 1953 – 1955’: MRS will release a 2CD/100page book compilation titled ‘Memphis Recording Service: The Complete Works 1953 – 1955’ on the 25th November 2016.
The 100-page book chronicles Elvis’ short recording career there, from its humble beginnings (his personal acetate recordings from July 1953 and January 1954) through to the final Sun sessions in 1955. The full and comprehensive text is complemented by rare photographs and unseen pieces of documentation.

The 2CDs contain the complete archival studio recordings from 1953- 1955:  Elvis’ personal acetates, the Sun masters, along with rare session outtakes. The tracks have been painstakingly remastered and restored.
There are many highlights on this new release. All of the newly remastered tracks now sound much clearer and crisper. For instance, ‘That’s All Right’ has been taken from the ‘Mother’ master of the original Sun 45rpm. Also, for the first time on CD, ‘I Forgot to Remember to Forget’ appears without the false bass RCA added to it in the 1980s when tampering with the master tapes.

The remastering of Elvis’ first acetate recordings – ‘My Happiness’ and ‘That’s When Your Heartaches Begin’ (from July 1953) – has also well exceeded the sound quality ever achieved before on these primitive recordings. Furthermore, on the outtakes of ‘Blue Moon’, the painstaking audio restoration has removed the overload and studio hum present on previous issues, and made them sound much better than ever before.  Indeed, all previous erroneous mastering faults and miscalculations have been rectified on this release, making it the best collection of these seminal recordings thus far.
MRS will also release a few weeks after the CD release, a 2LP 180 Gram Vinyl version titled ‘ MEMPHIS RECORDING SERVICE: MASTERS & SESSIONS 1953 – 1955’ with a bonus 4 page photo insert on the 16th December 2016.

2016 - Elvis Presley #4 Forbes Top-Earning Dead Celebrity: In a shocker of a year Elvis hasn't been pulling his weight - and for the first time in decades has dropped down to forth place in Forbes list of top-earning dead celebrities.
New entries for 2016 are (sadly) David Bowie and Prince. Prince's pre-tax income is estimated at $25m (£20.5m) by the business magazine, putting him fifth in the list, while Bowie is ranked at 11th. Both are dwarfed by pop star Michael Jackson who tops the list once again with a record-breaking estimated income of $825m  up from $115 million last year.
Elvis earned a lowly $27 million over the past year earning him the No. 4 spot - the last two years saw an income of $55 million.
Though Presley’s 2016 earnings are listed at half of last year’s total, a change in methodology for counting ticket sales - and not plummeting demand - this year accounted for Forbes shift in income.
Michael Jackson’s once-only sale of half of the Sony/ATV music publishing catalog for $750 million was the reason for his being the top this year.
Peanuts creator Charles Schulz claims the second spot with $48 million.
US golfer Arnold Palmer, who died last month aged 87, enters the chart at three with estimated earnings of $40m.
Top five Forbes magazine Top-Earning Dead Celebrities 2016.
1. Michael Jackson - $825 million
2. Charles Schulz - $48 million
3. Arnold Palmer - $40 million
4. Elvis Presley - $27 million
5. Prince - $25 million

Last year - Top five Forbes magazine Top-Earning Dead Celebrities 2015.
1. Michael Jackson $115 million
2. Elvis Presley $55 million
3. Charles Schulz ('Peanuts' creator) $40 million.
4. Bob Marley $21 million.
5. Elizabeth Taylor $20 million.

There is no doubt that things will change radically next year

Elvis' BMW grand reopening of the Zentrum museum fit for a king: A restored classic BMW 507 that was once owned by Elvis Presley was unveiled during the event. The Zentrum is only the second place where the classic car has been displayed.
The new Zentrum museum features dozens of classics on display, ranging from a 1930 racing roadster called the Ihle DIXI, to the latest vehicles, such as the 2017 750i sedan and 650i grand coupe.
We’re also thrilled to showcase the classic BMW 507 once owned by Elvis Presley."
Presley began using the car in 1958 to go between his home in Bad Nauheim and the U.S. Army Base in Friedberg, Germany.
After passing through several owners, it was discovered in the summer of 2014 in California. While the car was in poor condition, BMW Group Classic began a restoration, and two years later it was ready for display.

BMW spokesman Steve Wilson said Presley’s BMW 507 will be on display at the Zentrum for several months.
The ceremony was attended by Manfred Erlacher, president and CEO of BMW Manufacturing, “The Zentrum is symbolic of many things, but first and foremost, it is the only BMW museum in America," said Erlacher. “It is also a landmark, a gathering place and a venue where BMW displays and celebrates its history.”
The display of BMW’s historic fleet includes current models, including the X series, manufactured at the Spartanburg plant.
“It’s fantastic,” said Teel Hoeffel, who attended the ceremony. “Everything came together beautifully.”

Elvis fans shocked by Priscilla on UK TV Show: The UK Elvis fans are asking what has Priscilla Presley done to her face? While Priscilla Presley is a grandmother of 71, this week she sent shockwaves through social media after making a rare appearance on British TV.
And it wasn't her words about late husband Elvis on UK TV's Lorraine show that got people talking – it was her hauntingly youthful looks.
The 71-year-old sported a smooth, wrinkle-free complexion that seemed to defy the laws of nature.
After falling prey to unqualified plastic surgery conman Daniel Serrano back in 2008, many assumed the botched work would put the redhead off cosmetic procedures for life.
It would appear they were mistaken…
Many were also quick to point out the lack of movement in her features as she chatted away.
Despite both admitting to infidelities during their

marriage, Elvis and Priscilla remained close after their split.
And she had nothing but good things to say about the music legend.
"There was no one else like him... He was fantastic. Caring, empathetic, all those things," she gushed.
"He had his moods as well, but they were mostly creativity driven as he was into his career," she went on.
"He gave me so much pleasure and joy. He deserves every bit of the success he's had."

New ‘Suspicious Minds’ Elvis with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra: The Wall Street Journal is now helping promote the new album by Elvis with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.
'The Wonder of You' is out later this month and features more of Presley’s upbeat numbers, including one of his biggest hits, “Suspicious Minds.” The album’s producer Nick Patrick says they used Presley’s original vocals, noting the number is “perfectly suited for a symphonic treatment.”
Originally written by Mark James in 1968, “Suspicious Minds” became a No. 1 hit for Presley a year later. Over the years, artists like the Fine Young Cannibals, Dwight Yoakam and Waylon Jennings recorded versions of their own.
Along with “Suspicious Minds,” the album features “A Big Hunk O’ Love,” “I Got a Thing About You Baby,” and “Always on My Mind.”
Patrick says this time around, they approached the recording and arrangements differently. “We wanted to create a more upbeat, ‘celebratory ‘ feeling for the listener. We worked more from the ground up, adding rhythm elements first and then adding the orchestral parts later in the process. This gave us the ability to focus on the rhythmic energy of the songs and help us understand what Elvis was responding to during the original recordings.”
“The Wonder of You” is out Oct. 21 on RCA/Legacy.

Scottish brewers BOTH change their names to Elvis following legal dispute: Don't Be Cruel, is what the co-founders of hip Scottish beer brand, Brewdog, are asking of EPE's legal team.
It would seem that James Watt and Martin Dickie - who founded the brand back in 2007 - are All Shook Up by the thought of being sued by the team representing The King.
The move comes as the brewery faces legal action from the Suspicious Minds at EPE who are not entirely impressed at BrewDog’s decision to name their grapefruit & blood orange IPA, Elvis Juice.
The newly titled Elvis Dickie argued, “We would like to recommend that Presley’s Estate diverts its attention to another potential source of quick remuneration: a brewery that calls itself ‘The King’ of beer.”
EPE are claiming that the name infringes upon the image rights of the late icon. James and Martin (sorry, Elvis and Elvis) have responded to this allegation in a typically quirky fashion.
They claim that the name Elvis is not exclusive to one man and, to prove their point, they've BOTH taken on the legendary mantle.
And they have now issued a tongue-in-cheek response to the late singer's estate.
Elvis Watt said, “We’re Caught In A Trap and suggest the grey-suited Hound Dogs at the Presley estate recognise that the name Elvis is not exclusive.
"So, in an effort to Patch It Up, we’ve changed our names to highlight our Burning Love for the best grapefruit IPA out there. From this point forward, Elvis Juice is named after us, the brewers formerly known as James and Martin. "We may even file a case against Mr Presley for using our names on all his records without our written permission.”
BrewDog launched the Elvis Juice IPA earlier this year and it has become one of their best-selling products. Here's hoping that there's a Little Less Conversation about suing and little more peaceful beer drinking.

October FTD Releases: FTD have confirmed two new releases for later this month including 'Elvis Gold Records Vol.4' as a Classic Album that we already knew about. The second release is the 'TODAY' album as a special release using the Original Studio Session.
- 'Elvis’ Gold Records Volume 4' (2-CD) 'Classic Album'
It was 10 years after the release of Elvis’ Golden Records in 1958, that RCA Victor released 'Elvis’ Gold Records Volume 4.' It contained seven ‘B’ sides and only five ‘A’ sides. Whether at the behest of Colonel Tom Parker, or RCA, the philosophy of not including tracks that already featured on existing albums weakened what could have been a more powerful and hit-laden compilation. Although omitted from Volume 3 for the same reason, the addition of “Can’t Help Falling In Love”, “Return To Sender” would surely have enhanced it’s sales potential and the inclusion of “Crying In The Chapel” (albeit included on How Great Thou Art in 1967) should have provided the icing on the cake. However, for dedicated Elvis fans, it was still rewarding to get these songs on a long-playing album for the first time such as “Love Letters”, “It Hurts Me” and “A Mess Of Blues”.

Other hits that could have featured are added to Disc 1 as Bonus Tracks plus some unreleased studio outtakes while Disc 2 features the entire original album in glorious mono!

'The Hometown Shows' FTD In-depth Review: FTD's new release 'ELVIS: The Hometown Shows' is another double-CD this time focusing on Elvis' Memphis performance from 1974 / 75.  It features two legendary shows from the Mid-South Coliseum, Memphis, the March 17, 1974 (Evening show) and June 10, 1975 performance.
The March 17, 1974 ES soundboard is a brand new unreleased show, while June 10 1975 is one of Elvis' best mid-seventies concerts which has been previously out on bootleg. Both are excellent shows and in GREAT sound.
This 1975 concert provided us with the great Ed Bonja cover photo for the 'From EP Boulevard' album so you know Elvis was up for a good time!

'Never Been to Graceland' Short Film in Production: “Never Been to Graceland” is a feature length film about several people whose their lives become unexpectedly intertwined when a long-lost Elvis Presley song is supposedly found. This crew is bringing Elvis Presley back to life - almost 40 years after he died. But The King isn't the climax of this tale.
Justin Gausman, the director and writer, said "King is a four letter word as far as we are concerned. We're focused on the importance of the music and how that affects people."
The film - 'Never Been to Graceland' - tells the story of a reporter and Elvis fan traveling to Rapid City - searching for a long-lost Presley recording. Viewers are drawn into this plot which has a message of hope.
Gausman said "Whether you're young, old, whatever - music changes people, affects people, and saves people."
And it hits close to home for the movie's director and writer - Justin Gausman. 'Never Been to Graceland' was inspired by his personal story.
Gausman said "I was kind of in a place 5 years ago where I needed some hope. And Elvis' music gave me some hope."
The Hot Springs local normally writes comedy - but this short film is his take on drama. And this Rapid City business was a match.
The movie has been in the works for about 3 years now.
The cast and crew are from across the Black Hills and will finish shooting next weekend.
But, the film is expected to be released next August - in honor of the King of Rock and Roll's death - the 40th anniversary.
Calabrese said "Everyone has something they can connect to, regardless of what it is. Music is universal." 'Never Been to Graceland' will be available to watch online once it's released.

'Too Late For Goodbyes' New Import CD: Straight Arrow is pleased to bring you a new double CD dedicated to Elvis' May ’77 tour. The Knoxville, May 20th, 1977 tour opening show is previously unreleased. This recording was taken directly from a recently found original audience-recorded mastertape of excellent sound quality! This historic concert was never before available in decent sound… until now! The Largo, May 22nd, 1977 show was first released 22 ago but now it is the right time for a proper re-release. We dug up the original cassette and restored it from scratch. Knoxville is a solid tour opening concert. ”And I Love You So” and ”Hurt” are performed really well but one highlight stands out, an amazing performance of „How Great Thou Art“. Largo was affected by sound problems and Elvis changed the microphone several times. Nevertheless he was in a very good mood, and he gave decent performances of songs like ”Fairytale”, ”Funny How Time Slips Away” and ”My Way”. Includes rare photos taken in Knoxville and Largo and a newspaper review of the May 22nd, Largo concert.
It’s new STRAIGHT ARROW so you know what to expect!

'The Death and Resurrection of Elvis Presley' - Book Review: Elvis Aaron Presley is more popular today than ever, yet he died nearly forty years ago. His music is constantly remixed and re-released to a new generation of fans, and his image thrives in popular art and culture. Elvis is the subject of some truly astonishing rumours and legends, including the one that he never actually died. In the new book, The Death and Resurrection of Elvis Presley, author Ted Harrison asks what lies behind the remarkable resurrection in popular culture of the King of Rock 'n' Roll.  It tells the story of Elvis after Elvis. It shows how his estate, which was pillaged by his manager, was saved through the business acumen and financial vision of his ex-wife Priscilla Presley. It explores a spiritual dimension to the Elvis revival, where fans create a fantasy quasi-religion through which they blend and confuse Elvis and Jesus.
Published in 2016 this is a thoroughly researched book that brings us up-to-date with recent developments.  Harrison draws on existing publications on the same topic, as well as websites and correspondence, conversations and interviews with many Elvis fans and associates conducted over 25 years, to make a well-argued case.  He finally proposes possible future directions for this extraordinary Elvis phenomenon.
Go here as EIN book review Susan MacDougall explores this fascinating book and decides whether Elvis fans need to discover what the myth is all about.

“I’ve Got A Thing About You Baby” Elvis & RPO Preview: Elvis Music has published a preview of the remixed “I’ve Got A Thing About You Baby” from the forthcoming release of Elvis Presley With The Royal Philharmonic, 'The Wonder Of You'.
The publicity notes, “I’ve Got A Thing About You Baby” originally recorded at Stax Studios in 1973 and featured heavily in Elvis’ 1970s live shows, this song takes on a new life with bright orchestral accompaniment from the renowned Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. - CLICK HERE TO LISTEN
EIN NOTES - Elvis NEVER EVER played this song in concert. Stating that this song "was featured heavily in Elvis’ 1970s live shows" is pure BS and shows how little "Elvis Music" knows or cares about the real Elvis. This is only about the money. Col Parker sure is laughing now...
'The Wonder of You' is released on October 21st.

Kate Moss looks rock-chic in Elvis themed denim shirt: Kate Moss is one of the most iconic faces of the fashion industry, so it is no wonder that she was invited to attend one of the most prestigious style events of the year - the Dior show at Paris Fashion Week. And what else would you wear as a super-model in 2016 but an ELVIS denim shirt!
The super-model, 42, upper the glamour for her day by sporting a chic denim shirt emblazoned with Elvis Presley-themed decoration, formal trousers and a sleek blow-dry.
She added an edgier vibe to the formal strides, the Rimmel ambassador layered an oversized blue denim shirt on top, emblazoned with Elvis Presley themed decoration
Her shirt was adorned with sporadic diamantés and featured printed images all relating to Elvis on it - such as his face, a figure of him dancing and the phrase 'Can't help falling in love' towards the bottom.
Not only stylish, the ode to the famous rocker simultaneously showed off the blonde's slightly grungy style that she is so famous for.
Keeping the look very current and on-trend, Kate added a thin black choker to her neck and dressed her feet with classic leather stiletto ankle boots, with a pointed toe.
The fashion house's collection was its first under new artistic director Maria Grazia Chiuri, and was said to mark the brand's new direction.
Now EIN doesn't feel so bad wearing our well-worn Elvis shirts!!!

Cliff Richard duets with Elvis on new album: Sir Cliff Richard will “duet” with Elvis and 'Blues Suede Shoes' on Cliff's new album, announced just days after the singer was told that he will not be charged over allegations of historical sexual abuse.
Sir Cliff, 75, will make his pop comeback on a new collection of classic rock ‘n’roll covers released in November.
Sir Cliff has hit sights set on a Christmas #1, after the Crown Prosecution confirmed the decision not to prosecute him over allegations. Sir Cliff said it was time to return to “the thing I love best”, on an album, called 'Just… Fabulous Rock ‘n’ Roll', which celebrates a “more innocent time”.
The album features new renditions of seminal tracks such as Roll Over Beethoven, Great Balls of Fire, Sweet Little Sixteen, the highlight is a “duet” between Sir Cliff and Elvis on Blue Suede Shoes. Richard, originally styled as a British rival to “the King”, admitted that he owed his career to Elvis.
Sir Cliff was unable to fulfil his dream of duetting with Elvis before the star’s 1977 death. But studio trickery, endorsed by the Presley estate, finally allows their voices to share the same song. Previous posthumous Elvis duets have featured Susan Boyle and Barbra Streisand.

It was 60 years ago - Elvis rocked Tupelo: Sixty years ago on September 26th 1956 an all-conquering Elvis returned to Tupelo and the Mississippi Alabama Fair stage to show one and all that the young kid who left Tupelo was now the world's biggest super-star. After all, it was only 11 years previously in 1945 that he had only managed fifth place at the Mississippi Alabama Fair Talent show.

With both Gladys and Vernon in attendance, as Tupelo historian Roy Turner notes - "Seeing the look on his parents' face, hearing the roar of the Tupelo crowd, he felt it could never be better than this. He was home."

This month Erik Lorentzen publishes a special book on this stunning event.

'Elvis’s Army' New book: 'Elvis’s Army' - Cold War GIs and the Atomic Battlefield' is a new book from author Brian McAllister Linn.
When the U.S. Army drafted Elvis Presley in 1958, it quickly set about transforming the King of Rock and Roll from a rebellious teen idol into a clean-cut GI. Trading in his gold-trimmed jacket for standard-issue fatigues, Elvis became a model soldier in an army facing the unprecedented challenge of building a fighting force for the Atomic Age.
In an era that threatened Soviet-American thermonuclear annihilation, the army declared it could limit atomic warfare to the battlefield. From massive garrisons in Germany and Korea to nuclear tests to portable atomic weapons, the army reinvented itself. Its revolution in warfare required an equal revolution in personnel: the new army needed young officers and soldiers who were highly motivated, well trained, and technologically adept. Drafting Elvis demonstrated that even this icon of youth culture was not too cool to wear the army’s uniform.
The army of the 1950s was America’s most racially and economically egalitarian institution, providing millions with education, technical skills, athletics, and other opportunities. With the cooperation of both the army and the media, military service became a common theme in television, music, and movies, and part of this generation’s identity. Brian Linn traces the origins, evolution, and ultimate failure of the army’s attempt to transform itself for atomic warfare, revealing not only the army’s vital role in creating Cold War America but also the experiences of its forgotten soldiers.

The Roanoke Times review nicely notes... "In considering the long hard period of transformation, one ponders the profound commentary of Elvis Presley’s first sergeant: “By submitting to the draft and entering the Army as an ordinary private, Elvis accepted the discipline of an institution that had come to play a vital role in transforming men from assorted backgrounds into soldiers and Americans.” A condensed version of those lines might stand as a pretty good inscription on the Elvis’ tombstone."

Henrik Knudsen fined $75,000 for use of Graceland name!: Henrik Knudsen of Elvis Unlimited and the "Graceland" Museum Randers in Denmark has been fined $75 thousand in favour of EPE Inc. The payment will be transferred to the accounts of the estate of ABG / EPE.
The Danish commercial court ruled this week that that the Museum of Jutland has violated the rights of the heirs of Presley, copying the American house in Memphis, which still attracts more than 600 thousand visitors a year.
After the lawsuit was filed, the title was changed from "Graceland Randers". The Museum, owned by Henrik Knudsen, the self-proclaimed "professional Elvis fan", collected about six thousand exhibits. After its opening in 2011, he became one of 50 major attractions of Denmark.
Last year, Knudsen admitted that the lawsuit from Elvis Presley Enterprises took him by surprise. He claims that he voiced the idea of creating a Danish Graceland in 2005 and fans of the king

had every opportunity in order to prevent the use of the name of the original estate in the project. "Everything I did, my heart prompted. I'm a die-hard fan of Elvis, and I was doing all of this with no investment," he says.
The publication notes that the court, obliging the owner of the Museum to pay $ 75 thousand, yet acquitted him on a number of counts, including the sale of counterfeit Souvenirs.
The Elvis Museum was opened in 2011. All the exhibits from the personal collection of Henrik Knudsen. On the eve of the opening of the Museum he claimed to have had the support from ex-wife Priscilla.

New Elvis Biopic Being Shot at Graceland: Weinstein Television is developing the first-ever scripted Elvis Presley television biopic to be shot at Graceland, the company announced on Wednesday.
The eight to ten part series will explore every aspect of the King of Rock n’ Roll’s life with access to Elvis’ personal archives including journals, clothing, automobiles and Graceland. The project is based on the 1982 book “Elvis” by author Dave Marsh.
Priscilla Presley is attached as an executive producer, and the production is working in full partnership with the Presley Estate. Harvey Weinstein and Jerry Schilling will also exec produce.
“I’m a big fan of Harvey Weinstein’s independent films,” said Priscilla. “I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to work with him on this show and tell the story of how Elvis changed the culture of music and initiated a revolution that changed the world.”
No network is currently attached to this Elvis project, but it will be soon be discussed.
“We are excited to work with Harvey Weinstein and the team on this special project,” said Jamie Salter, CEO of ABG, “Partnering with producers of this caliber enables us to provide viewers with a new and original experience that is as captivating as the King himself.”
“This project will truly honor everything that made Elvis Presley a central figure of our time. This format enables us to do justice to Elvis’ rich and compelling story, which will be sure to thrill audiences.”
“To this day, Elvis is one of the few that lives up to the word ‘icon’. It’s an incredible opportunity to be the first-ever scripted TV series to shoot at Graceland and have access to Elvis’ personal archives. Elvis redefined an entire generation’s relationship to music and pop culture. This show will be an authentic and riveting look at how that came about from start to finish.”
The project will be overseen by Megan Spanjian who heads scripted television for TWC.

Larry Muhoberac, Elvis piano man, in Sydney nursing home: It has been sadly reported that Larry Muhoberac is now living in a nursing home on the Sydney Central Coast. It was Muhoberac who played piano for Elvis' at his sensational Las Vegas return to live performing.
In fact, Larry Muhoberac’s hands have also doubled for Elvis’ in several movie scenes of The King playing the piano.
And while Elvis left the building long ago, Muhoberac who also played alongside Ray Charles, Neil Diamond and Barbra Streisand before moving to Australia with his wife Andra in 1986 - is now living at a nursing home near Sydney.
Sadly Muhoberac’s communication skills are not what they were, after being diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia, but the 79-year-old feels like getting his blue suede shoes on when he hears an Elvis song.
“Clearly something different and something significant happens when Elvis comes on,” wife Andra said.
In an interview early last year, Muhoberac recalled his first meeting with The King at Graceland.
“My initial impression was that he was very quiet. Nothing outrageous. No outrageous behaviour, at that time he didn’t have all the guards. He had one person at the gate to see who was coming in. I drove up. The guard says, ‘Well, go around back’. I drove up the driveway and went to the back door. He still had a screen-door entrance and everything else.”
He has fond memories of working on four of Elvis’ films — Frankie And Johnny (1966), Paradise Hawaiian Style (1966), Speedway (1968) and Stay Away Joe (1968) after moving to Memphis to find his musical fortune.
“The movie cues, the underscore cues, were done with a full orchestra and a rhythm section but when it came time to do the single songs, which were the performance numbers in the movie, we’d be over at Radio Recorders, which is a more intimate environment for recording, and it would just be the band and a rhythm section and sometimes The Jordanaires and the Anita Kerr Singers,” he recalled.
He remembers working with Elvis, Charles and Streisand with great affection.
“It was great fun and you got to see Hollywood. We were looked after really well. All the times were good.”
Muhoberac said Elvis had “a great feeling for the timing of the song. He contributed that and that was a major contribution. If a song was a little under or over the tempo, Elvis was very aware of that.”
He said he was shocked when he saw Elvis on TV shortly before his death at the age of 42 in 1977.
“You’ve got to realise that (Elvis) was a physical fitness fanatic,” he said.
“Then I saw him on TV and I couldn’t believe it. Something had happened. All the dissipated features, the general lack of physical health. He did not look healthy. He looked very ill.”
“You know, of all the people I have ever worked with the only person people ever ask about is Elvis. At the time you just did your job,” he said.
And with Elvis’ timeless music as a comfort, Muhoberac won’t be lonesome tonight.

'All Shook Up' - FTD CD review: One of the best releases to highlight Larry Muhoberac's contribution on piano is this Midnight concert from August 26th 1969. The excitement of Elvis' return to live performances in August 1969 would never be repeated. On his Midnight shows Elvis had no time limit, was able to perform to his maximum and on this special night he was in a fabulously funny mood & as loose as a goose! ‘All Shook Up’ captures Elvis’ truly infectious laughter while at the same time Larry Muhoberac's piano driven mix. UPDATED - 'Secrets and Lies: Getting to the Truth about Elvis' Christmas Album': Probably more than any other album of his career, Elvis’ Christmas Album is generally regarded as having created the most controversy.
Some would argue that the first album in 1956 did this, but actually there was relatively little backlash against it or Elvis in the press prior to the second Milton Berle appearance. Elvis’ Christmas Album, however, has stories of it being banned by radio stations, firings of DJs, and an irate Irving Berlin all attached to it.
These events make for great stories, have been often repeated, and only add to the legend of the boy from Tupelo taking on the establishment and coming out with #1 album.
But are they really true?
Go here to this fascinating EIN spotlight where author Shane Brown investigates and checks the facts and the fantasy - now updated with your comments & more info

Million Dollar Quartet cancels Australian Tour!: Bad news for Aussies - the Australian tour of Tony award winning musical Million Dollar Quartet - announced only two months ago - has now been cancelled. No reason or details have been announced with the 'Australian Tour' still being noted on the MDQ official website.
EIN members are disappointed as we were all looking forward to seeing the award winning production.
The production, inspired by the true story of the famous 1956 recording session which brought together icons Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis and Carl Perkins for the first and only time, was due to open at the Comedy Theatre in Melbourne on December 8, 2016 before heading to Sydney, Gold Coast, Adelaide and Perth.

‘Million Dollar Quartet’ 60th anniversary finale in Vegas: With several shows closing this year in Las Vegas sadly the 'Million Dollar Quartet' show at Harrah’s is also going to close but on December 4, 2016 – sixty years to the day after that famous event on Dec. 4, 1956 when Elvis, Jerry Lee Lewis, Johnny Cash and Carl Perkins all got together for a jam at Sam Phillips’ Records in Memphis.
The show opened in February 2013 and featured a talented cast of actors and musicians who played their own instruments onstage. Those in the current company include original cast members Rob Lyons (Carl Perkins), Martin Kaye (Jerry Lee Lewis) and Marc Donovan ( Sam Phillips). Elvis has been most recently portrayed by Justin Shandor (winner of the 2010 UETA competition in Memphis), and Scott Moreau has played Johnny Cash.
“Million Dollar Quartet” was easily one of the best musicals on The Strip, and is one of the rare shows where performers sing without backing tracks.
The show was a massive success with more than 1,500 performances and will be fondly remembered for its charismatic cast, top-notch performances.
We recommend you see “Million Dollar Quartet” while you can!

"Elvis: Truth, Myth & Beyond" New Book:  EIN has had a few readers question us about this new book from Lamar Fike. However Marty Lacker has confirmed that it is a book that Lamar wanted to publish - but never managed to finish before he sadly passed away. The book has been finally completed by Lamar's cousin (Tommy McDonald) put  together from Lamar's writing with the help of a friend, Harold Eggers. Marty tells EIN that it is a fine book with some good stories and info within its covers. Lamar's cousin is a "good guy" and this is what Lamar would have liked to have seen published for the fans.
"Elvis: Truth, Myth & Beyond - An Intimate Conversation with Lamar Fike, Elvis Presley's Closest Friend and Confidant" presents 400 questions about Presley's life and career with in-depth answers by good friend, Lamar Fike.
This 190-page book of informed and tantalizing insights into the character of the man who irreversibly changed 20th-century musical and cultural history.
A member of Elvis' famed "Memphis Mafia", Fike lived with Elvis and his parents at Graceland in 1957-58 and became intimately aware of the complex family history and dynamics that would influence Elvis until his final hour.
The book features recollections about Fike and Presley by music industry luminaries including Ray Baker, Jimmy Bowen, Jerry Chesnut and Anita Wood - with a special foreword by Fike's good friend Marty Lacker. In conversations with the authors, Lamar Fike repeatedly emphasized this book as a way of presenting and preserving as much "real truth" about Elvis as possible.

Elvis first 'Ed Sullivan Show' 60 years ago: Noted as one of the "ten days that rocked America", it was sixty years ago on September 9,  1956 that  Elvis appeared on the Ed Sullivan show and rock and roll truly became part of mainstream American culture.
The New York Daily News published their story "Yes, It's Elvis Again!"  the following day.
... Boy, make fast those storm windows and call out the bodyguards! Elvis the Pelvis is here again. He was on the Ed Sullivan show last evening.
It was a much-subdued Elvis Presley (CBS-TV, 8 to 9 ) who was introduced from New York by the sardonic Charles Laughton subbing for Sullivan. Facing the cameras in Hollywood, he sang in his usual manner. What that manner is I've already described on several occasions; so there's no need to go into that again.
But I'll say this for the fellow. He merely moved and hopped about a bit; he did not gyrate his pelvis. (I guess we'll have to change his monicker.)
In fact, he gave a completely antiseptic and sterilized performance. Even a prissy spinster could not have objected to it.
Not that Elvis needs to bother. After all, Laughton called attention to the four gold records on the stage each representing sales of more than a million Presley Platters. And did his teen-age audience on the Coast scream! They think that the boy is worth the $50,000 Sullivan is paying him for three appearances.
Incidentally, there was another singer on the show - Dorothy Sarnoff. Outstanding. And Laughton made a swell emcee."

There was no shoot "from the waist up" rules that first night, as NBC viewers got to see the full Elvis action - legs, hips, and all when he rocked out on Little Richard's 'Ready Teddy' and the smash single  'Hound Dog.'  The teenage audience screamed as Elvis grunted, moved his tongue and crossed his eyes - with the camera focused on Elvis censorship seemed irrelevant.
The massive home-audience certainly wasn't offended enought that it changed the channel. The September 9th Sullivan show reached an astounding 82.6 percent of the TV audience - the largest single audience in television history.

(Interview) Bill "Superfoot" Wallace talks to EIN: Bill was full contact Professional Karate Association (PKA) Middleweight Champion from 1974 to 1980. He appeared in numerous films and continues to tour the world presenting seminars on the martial arts.
Bill became good friends with Elvis and the Memphis Mafia, training with him and hanging out at Graceland. In a wide ranging interview, Bill recently talked with EIN’s Nigel Patterson about his life, Elvis, martial arts and some of his friends including Red West, Ed Parker, Chuck Norris and Jackie Chan.
In his scintillating interview Bill also talks about Elvis' proficiency as a martial artist and recounts the time Bill and members of the Memphis Mafia confronted an armed biker gang in what became a life threatening incident!

In early interviews, Elvis divulged that spiritual music was his first love and he publicly continued to reaffirm. Graceland to run Prince's "Paisley Park" Tours!: When Prince died last April aged  57, his fans sent sales of his music soaring - just as happened back in 1977 for Elvis. Six months later Prince fans will be able to remember him via tours though his $10 million Minnesota home "Paisley Park" where he lived and also recorded more than 30 albums. Tours of Paisley Park in Chanhassen, Minn., will start on October 3, and tour tickets go on sale soon.
According to a proposed business plan tickets will cost $38.50 and that tours will last just over an hour. If this sounds familiar to Elvis fans then it will be of no surprise as Graceland Holdings (the company responsible for the Graceland tours) will be running  the Paisley Park tours.
Paisley Park certainly doesn't have that "Homely" visual appeal of Elvis' old mansion. Visitor estimates however are 1,500 to 2,000 fans who might tour Prince's home every day during peak season. This puts the figure close to Graceland's 600,000 per year. Of course 30 years after Graceland opened to the public and 39 years after
Elvis' death, the Memphis tourist attraction reached the amazing total of 20 million visitors.
It would be a surprise if Prince's legacy stays as popular for as long.
Despite the likely similarity to the Graceland concept apparently Prince didn't like comparisons as one of his employees told TIME magazine, "Prince doesn't want anybody "to feel like they've walked into Graceland" when visiting Paisley Park."

UPDATED - 'Way Down In The Jungle Room' EIN Review:  Released for August 2016 this SONY Legacy pack celebrates the 40th anniversary of Elvis’ last recording sessions which took place in Graceland’s Jungle Room.
The publicity noted the sessions “have been newly mixed by Matt Ross-Spang at Sam Phillips Recording” and “includes both outtakes and in-the-studio dialog, providing a ‘fly-on-the-wall experience’ of what the sessions were like".
Elvis' original 76/77 albums were fairly uninspired collections (bar a few fine singles) and on the original LPs it was almost impossible to glimpse any sign of creative input from Elvis through the syrupy overdubs. It wasn't until the release of FTD’s magnificent ‘The Jungle Room Sessions’ that many fans began to understand the raw emotion, close camaraderie and Elvis’ personal feelings that were revealed by these intimate Graceland sessions.
To produce that same kind of revelation for the 'General Public' would be a very tricky project but that is exactly what the new legacy team has done - and to great effect.

Graceland Announces Greatest Expansion In Its History: Graceland announced its largest and most significant expansion since opening to the public in 1982 with the unveiling of its plans and artist renderings for “Elvis: Past, Present & Future,” (right) a 200,000-square-foot, $45 million entertainment complex now under construction across the street from Graceland.  The state-of-the-art facility, opening in the spring of 2017, will be five times the size of the current visitor center, and will present the life, career and legacy of the greatest entertainer like never before.  The complex will also showcase interactive and immersive pop culture experiences that connect to Elvis’ personal interests throughout his life, including his passion for automobiles and new technology.
While the acclaimed Graceland Mansion tour will continue to present the personal and family side of Elvis’ life, “Elvis: Past, Present & Future” will tell the rest of Elvis’ incredible story in an unprecedented, interactive and highly-engaging way.
“We are thrilled to bring Elvis fans the opportunity to explore the things that Elvis loved and what he would have loved today – the music, the technology, the experiences,” stated Joel Weinshanker, Managing Partner, Graceland  Holdings, LLC.  “Elvis: Past Present & Future will enable our visitors to live a day in the life of Elvis Presley.  Whether you’ve been to Graceland multiple times or have yet to make the trip, we know that you will be entertained, educated and inspired like never before, here at the world’s greatest music landmark.”
The cornerstone of this new complex will be “Elvis: The Entertainer,” a 20,000-square-foot museum celebrating Elvis’ incredible music, movie and live touring career, featuring hundreds of artifacts from the extensive Graceland Archives, as guests take a journey from his early days in Tupelo, Miss., through his first recording session in Memphis, rise to fame, Hollywood career, service in the U.S. Army, life at Graceland, the Las Vegas years and more.  “Elvis: The Entertainer” will be the largest and most comprehensive Elvis museum in the world.
A new Elvis Presley Automobile Museum (right) will showcase over 20 of Elvis’ automobile and motorized vehicles, including Elvis’ iconic Pink Cadillac, and also feature a 200-seat theater space showcasing Elvis movie clips focused on cars and racing.
A 20,000-square-foot “Graceland Soundstage” will be an extraordinary venue for live music performances, movie screenings and premieres, video productions, with theater seating for up to 2,000 people, as well as the flexibility to use for private events, corporate meetings, conferences and trade show exhibitions.
“Discovery” spaces will showcase aspects of Elvis’ life, career and interests in greater depth, from the music genres that influenced Elvis from his earliest days – Rhythm & Blues, Southern Gospel, Country & Western -- to today’s music artists who continue to be influenced by Elvis and his body of work.
A signature exhibition will present the incredible story of music visionary and legendary producer Sam Phillips, who essentially created Rock ‘n’ Roll and discovered so many incredible artists at Memphis Recording Service/Sun Records. Graceland will partner with the Phillips family to develop an extensive exhibition that showcases Sam’s life and work in an unprecedented and engaging way.  Featuring rare artifacts, photos, videos and documents from the Phillips family archives, the exhibition will shine a light on the great artists that Sam produced, starting with the early blues recordings that profoundly influenced Elvis and continues to impact the music of today.
In a statement, Sam Phillips’ sons Knox and Jerry said, "What better place to do this than at Graceland here in Memphis where it all happened.  Sam and Elvis had such love and respect for each other, now
they will be recognized together again, influencing new generations for years to come. Rock on..."
The “Elvis: Past, Present & Future” experience will also feature Elvis’ two custom airplanes, the Lisa Marie and the Hound Dog II, which continue to be a very popular part of the existing Graceland visitor center.  The iconic planes will remain across the street from the Mansion, adjacent to the new venue.

Linda Thompson - More on her new book: More publicity from Linda Thompson about her new book. She revealed to the Commercial Appeal...
... Linda Thompson and Elvis were watching TV at Graceland when they saw Bruce Jenner compete for the decathlon title at the 1976 Summer Olympics in Montreal.
"We were in bed cheering him on," Thompson said. "Sure enough, he crosses the finish line. He's the picture of health and All-American good looks. Elvis looks at me: 'I'm not gay, but that's one good-looking guy right there.' I said, 'Yeah, he sure is. Matter of fact, I'm going to marry him one day.' Elvis said, 'Over my dead body!'
"It was a joke at the time. I think he tackled me in the bed or something after that."
A year later, Elvis died. Thompson met Jenner two years later. They dated and were married.
A former Memphian, Thompson recounts her years with Elvis and her marriage to Jenner, now Caitlyn Jenner, in her new book, "A Little Thing Called Life: On Loving Elvis Presley, Bruce Jenner, and Songs in Between."
Thompson met Elvis at the old Memphian theater, which the King rented for a movie showing for his cohorts. "He burst through the side door dressed as Dracula — flared pants, black cape with red lining and sunglasses on," she said. "It was July 6, 1972, and it was sweltering hot in Memphis. So humid and hot. I was kind of taken aback by how he was dressed." Elvis shined a flashlight in the faces of people in the theater. When the light hit Thompson, he said, "Oh, hello, honey."

"And kind of sauntered over in this Elvis-esque manner," said Thompson, who then was introduced to the King with her new "Miss Tennessee Universe" title. "I had no designs on him. I was very cordial as Miss Tennessee, (with the) beauty queen smile fixed on my face."
Elvis changed seats so he could sit next to her. "I was a little pert: 'To what do we owe this honor? We're kind of dressed as Dracula tonight. Well, why are you dressed like that?'"
Elvis said, "Honey, I just stepped from an air-conditioned car to an air-conditioned building."
They hit it off. They both had the "same slightly acerbic" sense of humor, Thompson said. "Not mean-spirited. We looked for the inane in every situation. He was one of the funniest people I met in my life. I think more than anything he just loved to laugh. He found humor even in the darkest of situations."
Elvis and Thompson spent 4½ years together. "It would be hard to have met him and spent any time with him and not to have liked him or loved him. He was that kind of charismatic, sincere, authentic, warm and generous spirit. A really unique human being."
Thompson and Elvis broke up around Christmas 1976. "I did not break up with him because I didn't love him anymore. I'll probably love him till the day I die. In fact, I'm sure I will. There's always a place in my heart for him. But I wanted more for my life. I wanted to be a mother. Live a more normal life. I knew Elvis was not monogamous. We could get married, but he'd have other women. His prescription drug problem had gotten worse when I was with him. It would ebb and flow, but it would never go away."

In 1979, Thompson presented an award to Jenner at a charity event. A regular on TV's "Hee Haw," she was introduced as a "Hee Haw Honey" and a former Miss Tennessee Universe. "I was just a little ingénue. A newbie out there. He was separated from his wife. And we just gradually started dating. We both really liked each other a lot." - They dated for 1½ years and were married in 1981.
Thompson never suspected Jenner was transgender. "Not a clue in the world. Just like the rest of the world. I thought he was the most virile, manly man I had ever met. This was a guy!"
Her sons now are in their 30s, Thompson said. "Bruce was not a great father," she said. "Not a participatory parent. He was out of their lives for many years, but they have learned to forgive him, which, I think, is another great lesson in this. I hope people perceive this book in the same spirit I was writing it — love, acceptance, tolerance, compassion. The kids have embraced all those noble qualities and incorporated them into who they are. And made me so proud the way they've embraced Caitlyn. They're not ashamed. That's part of life. That's who she is.
"It's the same quality I found in Elvis. You have to be able to find the humor in almost every situation. And the irony. And be abe to embrace life and let it flow through you."
Thompson has moved on. "In fact, another title for the book could have been, 'Elvis and Bruce Jenner have left the Building.'

Elvis New RPO release - Kentucky Rain sample: The second volume of Elvis remixed with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra' is due out in October 2016.
Originally EIN reported on December 27 last year that album producer Don Reedman noted that plans were underway for a new Elvis Gospel album featuring the RPO. Perhaps plans have changed, or more likely Gospel material will also be included in the new RPO album.

You can hear a very short sample of the NEW 'Kentucky Rain' - CLICK HERE - EIN wonders what was wrong with the original 'Kentucky Rain' as this sounds like elevator muzak to us!

The release of the album is planned in October and some tracks will also be part of the set list of the UK RPO concerts tour.

Elvis & 'RPO' Orchestra Tour Australia 2017: Following on from the release of last year’s incredible million-selling album, "If I Can Dream" comes the announcement of a 2017 tour of Australia and New Zealand for this new "live concert experience" featuring Elvis Presley backed by a new Orchestra backing.
This follows on from the six date UK run in November.
The "remixed" album 'If I Can Dream' was a big success in Australia (#1) and New Zealand (#3) ...
while in the US it disappointingly only made #21 in the Billboard charts. The album used archive recordings of The King’s voice featuring new orchestral arrangements of some of his biggest hits.
This will be re-created in concert using a 40-piece orchestra to replicate the original album work of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.
Now Australian and New Zealand fans will have a chance to experience the man who changed the course of popular music live on screen, with a full 40-piece Orchestra live on stage performing the King of Rock and Roll’s most well-known “rocking” songs and his tender, heart-wrenching ballads.
No concerts dates have been announced as yet, Tickets should go on sale next month

'Speedway' - FTD Soundtrack Album Review: Speedway was Elvis' very last Soundtrack album. With the intention of recreating the dynamic atmosphere of 1963’s Viva Las Vegas, MGM cast hot property Nancy Sinatra as Elvis’ co-star but there was no chemistry between them. The original session took place on the MGM soundstage and the recordings flooded in echo sounded terrible. Luckily the four-track MGM Masters still exist and have been remixed for this release creating the best quality recordings we have to date.
With only ‘Let Yourself Go’ and 'Suppose' as the stand out tracks the album was a very dull affair
However several previously unreleased outtakes of the Bonus songs ‘Mine’ and ‘Goin’ Home’ are also included here, help add interest and make CD 1 a packed 79 minutes.
Remarkably with such lacklustre original material FTD have managed to create a rather worthy classic soundtrack album.

All Shook Up - EIN Spotlight: Composer Otis Blackwell liked to boast that he could write a song about anything. So when music publisher and lyricist Aaron ‘Goldie’ Goldmark dropped a Pepsi on the floor and urged Blackwell to turn that into a hit, the songwriter did precisely that.

But Elvis' classic 1957 hit All Shook Up wasn't the first version released - what Elvis managed to do was to transform the demo into something unique with a playfulness, sense of freedom and simple instrumentation that were all reminiscent of the more innocent, earlier understated sound of Sun Records.

Elvis with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra UK Tour 2016: Following on from the release of last year’s incredible million-selling album, "If I Can Dream," comes the announcement of the world exclusive live concert experience featuring the most recognizable voice of all time, Elvis Presley, backed by the legendary Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra, for a six date UK arena run this November.
The critically acclaimed album, "If I Can Dream," uses archive recordings of The King’s voice featuring new orchestral arrangements of some of his biggest hits, to create an overwhelmingly encapsulating and enthralling album. The album is Elvis’ twelfth UK number one album and his fiftieth to hit the UK top-ten.
Now fans will have a chance that many have never had before – to experience the man who changed the course of popular music – the biggest selling solo artist in history (having sold an astonishing one billion records world wide), live on screen, with the Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra live on stage performing the King of Rock and Roll’s most well-known “rocking” songs and his tender, heart-wrenching ballads.
"If I Can Dream" was produced by Executive Producer, Don Reedman, Priscilla Presley and Elvis Presley Enterprises. Priscilla Presley will be also be making a very special appearance at the arena shows. "What an honor for me to present the live debut of what has become a very prestigious and beloved album backed by a full symphony orchestra," she said.
These one-off UK performances will be a musical celebration of the legend for whom superlatives weren’t enough and who continues to break records.

Did Elvis Record 'Tiger Man' At Sun?: A question that has puzzled Elvis fans through the years is whether he actually recorded the song ‘Tiger Man’ during his years at SUN studios.
The basic question is why did Elvis refer to 'Tiger man' several times in concert as “The second song that I ever recorded, not too many people heard it”?
And if Elvis DID record it, then why hasn’t any reference to it at SUN or proof of its existence been found?
Elvis would first perform ‘Tiger Man’ in concert at his first 1969 Las Vegas International season and would continue playing it through the years – usually in a medley with Mystery Train - until his last performance at Saginaw on May 3 1977. He would sing it over 150 times on stage!
The thought that there might be an acetate or undiscovered tape of Elvis at SUN singing ‘Tiger Man’ is a mouth-watering concept - but is it an unlikely fantasy or strong possibility?
Go here to our detailed 'TIGER MAN' spotlight as EIN's Piers Beagley puts in the hard yards to check the facts from the fantasy .
