'Elvis & RPO In Concert' Birmingham Review: From the UK Birmingham Mail a wonderful review of the new show.. "So realistic fans felt Elvis really was in the building! "
Almost 40 years after his death, Elvis Presley appeared to thoroughly enjoy his fully-deserved standing ovation at the NEC's Genting Arena.
He also looked like he'd earned it, with sweat pouring off his brow at the end of a show called Elvis in Concert - Live on Screen with The Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra
Often dressed in a white karate-style suit, this was the King at top of his game, a royal ruler who has spawned legions of imitators for four decades but still no successor.
From Burning Love to American Trilogy, from Love Me Tender to In The Ghetto, The Wonder of You, Bridge Over Troubled Water, It's Now Or Never
and Can't Help Falling In Love this concert was the closest any of us will get to seeing Elvis for real in Las Vegas.
And, yes, he performed like he really was inside the NEC's biggest shed. Since the turn of the century, new technology has done Elvis a huge favour.
Arenas are now so big that most shows are augmented by giant screens to the point that you almost end up watching the pictures rather than the stars themselves, particularly if you are more than a third of the way back.
And so with Elvis being beamed around the arena via four screens, you tended to forget he wasn't really there, so gripped were you by THAT voice, the mannerisms and frequent flashes of devilment in his eyes or on the curl end of his lips.
We had all Elvis's here - the lean, mean, hip-swivelling, gyrating-pelvis machine, the chubby ill-
looking star whose demons were taking over and the one who would kneel down for a kiss in return for a garland of flowers.
The moment he came on wearing a slimming, black leather outfit on a set that made him look like was on Top of the Pops, brought an electrifying edge to proceedings for a couple of songs.
Displaying just one still photograph during Don't, a favourite of Priscilla's that he recorded at the age of 21, emphasised a maturity of performance way beyond his years.
Brought up on gospel - it was all he knew from the age of two, according to one caption - Elvis still spans so many musical genres like a colossus.
With or without guitar, with or without his white jump suit, he came across as a contemporary idol who simply hasn't dated.

Watching him on film, home movies or playing concerts, he appeared here to be a larger-than-life, multi-media giant before the term was even coined.
Wearing a stylish indigo dress and sounding like a woman in her 40s, 71-year-old Priscilla introduced the show. Priscilla explained how Elvis had been haunted by self-doubt during his years in the Army only to then wonder again where he stood following the "British invasion of bands like The Beatles and the Rolling Stones."
He was also a man whom she doubted had ever got over the death of his mother, Gladys, in 1958.
Priscilla revealed that "before Elvis passed", in August 1997, he'd been planning to finally visit the UK in 1978, and that he'd dreamed of nights like this.
Whether any shows then would have been better than this one is hard to say given the recent dramatic improvements in sound technology where quality is emphasised over sheer noise.
Here, The Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra played a blinder to a) authenticate Elvis's back catalogue and b) fill the Genting Arena with a lush sound that was not only entirely audible, but delivered by an orchestra one minute and full on rock band the next. And always in sync with the main man, too.
Of course, no ordinary late singer with collars the size of curtain pelmets and sideburns like matching Velcro doormats could draw a near-capacity crowd to a venue with 15,000 seats.
But there would have been few in the audience who didn't have a really personal song, whether it was a reminder of long gone parents, a lover, or a lyric that meant something in a world frequently touched by sad family events.
The words from American Trilogy - felt particularly apt: "So hush little baby / Don't you cry / You know your daddy's bound to die." So true, in one sense.
Except, in Elvis's case in general, and on this evidence in particular, he is clearly going to live on forever.
Signing herself off stage at the end, even Priscilla was clearly thrilled by the atmosphere she'd just witnessed.

‘Memphis Recording Service: The Complete Works 1953 – 1955’ OUT NOW: MRS has released their 2CD/100page book compilation titled ‘Memphis Recording Service: The Complete Works 1953 – 1955’ - for Only £29.99.
The 100-page book chronicles Elvis’ short recording career there, from its humble beginnings (his personal acetate recordings from July 1953 and January 1954) through to the final Sun sessions in 1955. The full and comprehensive text is complemented by rare photographs and unseen pieces of documentation. The 2CDs contain the complete archival studio recordings from 1953- 1955:  Elvis’ personal acetates, the Sun masters, along with rare session outtakes. The tracks have been painstakingly remastered and restored.
There are many highlights on this new release. All of the newly remastered tracks now sound much clearer and crisper. For instance, ‘That’s All Right’ has been taken from the ‘Mother’ master of the original Sun 45rpm. Also, for the first time on CD, ‘I Forgot to Remember to Forget’ appears without the false bass RCA added to it in the 1980s when tampering with the master tapes.   Indeed, all previous erroneous mastering faults and miscalculations have been rectified on this release, making it the best collection of these seminal recordings thus far.

Joe Esposito EIN Interview: Joe Esposito (RIP) is best known as a key member of the "Memphis Mafia' and one of Elvis' closest friends. Joe met Elvis in 1958 when they were both in the army. They met in Germany and formed a friendship over playing games of football and taking trips to Paris. Before leaving the service Elvis asked Joe to work for him, from then on their friendship would last almost two decades with Esposito's main role being road-manager.

In 2001 EIN's Nigel Patterson met up with Joe Esposito in Canberra. He had agreed to give us 15 minutes of his time, but ended up talking for over an hour. This interview was featured in our EIN Fan Club newsletter but not on-line.
Joe Esposito January 22, 1938 - November 23,2016 - RIP.

'Elvis and the RPO' Tour Review: This is the UK review of Elvis and the RPO recent performance in Manchester from the Lancashire Telegraph newspaper.
... There can’t be many artists who would sell out an arena 40 years after their death but then there aren’t, nor have there ever, been many artists like Elvis Presley.
The premise of the show is simple. Take footage of vintage Elvis concert performances, show it on a big screen and get the orchestra to accompany the great man.
In reality it’s a far more complex – and at times – thrilling experience.

It’s all too easy to be skeptical about Elvis, his legacy tarnished slightly by the thousands of karaoke singers and his love of rhinestones and a jumpsuit.
But what this show does is reaffirm his peerlessness as an artist and singer.
Bear in mind that playing live was a full orchestra and at times even they struggled to keep up with the power and the majesty of the King in full cry.
The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra has made two albums accompanying Elvis and many of the songs featured in the two hour show.
Priscilla Presley, resplendent in velvet gown, was on hand to introduce proceedings – she has played a major part in the project getting off the ground.
The setlist wasn’t just a greatest hits either. Highlights include a lesser known song, Don’t, from early in Elvis’ career but it was the blockbusters like In the Ghetto, Suspicious Minds and the emotional American Trilogy which got the best response.
There was a slightly surreal moment – as if watching a dead rock and roll legend perform ‘live’ in front of your eyes isn’t surreal enough – when Priscilla walked along the front row asking stunned audience members their name and where they came from. Faced with a 10-year-old Elvis impersonator in full garb made by his gran, even she was taken aback.
But it was the music that everyone had come for and it didn’t disappoint.
The RPO were magnificent adding power and, when needed, lightness to the songs.
The backing singers did a sterling job and for a rock and roll section it was great to see the musicians singing along and at one point leaping out of their seats and jiving along to the music.
The packed crowd was a mixture of the worshippers, the curious and possibly the skeptics.
By the end, the show left no-one in any doubt. Elvis is and always will be the king of rock and roll – and so much more besides.

Joe Esposito Has Died, Aged 78: It is very sad to have to confirm the passing of Joe Esposito. He was a good friend of EIN's and a lovely man every time we crossed paths. The photo shows EIN's Sanja Meegin with Joe Esposito in 2011.
Joe Esposito is best known as a key member of the "Memphis Mafia' and one of Elvis' closest friends. Joe met Elvis in 1958 when they were both in the army. They met in Germany and formed a friendship over playing games of football and taking trips to Paris. Before leaving the service Elvis asked Joe to work for him, from then on their friendship would last almost two decades with Esposito's main role being road-manager.
Along with Marty Lacker, Esposito served as co-best man at Elvis' wedding while Esposito's wife, Joan was matron of honor. After Elvis' death in 1977 Esposito went to work for Tour promoter Jerry Weintraub and worked as road manager for multiple stars including Michael Jackson, The Bee Gees, Karen Carpenter and John Denver.
Joe Esposito was a principal consultant for the 1981 movie 'This Is Elvis' and has authored several books on Elvis.
Esposito has 3 children, with one from his second marriage to Martha Gallub. Very sadly Martha died on March 19, 2012, after a long fight with cancer.

The last time EIN had a chance to catch up with Joe was in 2011 when he toured with Australia with Shawn Klush and Donny Edwards and helped raise money for Cancer Awareness.
Joe Esposito died November 23, 2016 after a year of declining health.

It's a truly sad realisation that all these good friends shown in this 1968 photo, Alan Fortas, Col Parker, Elvis, Lamar Fike, Joe Esposito and Charlie Hodge are all no longer with us.

Joe Esposito January 22, 1938 - November 23,2016 - RIP.

Elvis’ BMW 507 Restoration: One of the hottest premieres at this year’s Pebble Beach auto-expo was the 1957 BMW 507 Roadster that belonged to none other than Elvis Presley. The car made the crowd gasp when it was unveiled and rightfully so, considering the amount of work that went into making it shine like it was brand new once again.
Hans Stuck was one of the greatest and boldest pilots ever to hop behind the wheel of a BMW. Legend has it, that Elvis saw Hans Stuck driving the BMW during one of his races and fell in love with its curves and the way it handled the track. Therefore, he called up the company and bought the exact one Stuck was driving.
And while the importance of the German pilot in all of this story can’t be overlooked, and even more important man has to be mentioned, Jack Castor. Jack is the car collector who dared to spend $1,500 on a run-down BMW 507 several decades ago, to try and put it back together. He didn’t know what he had bought when he purchased the BMW but aren’t we all glad he did?
When BMW found out that this was in fact the car owned by Elvis, calls were made and a restoration project immediately began, to get the car back in shape in time for the 2016 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. Over the course of two years, every single detail about it was inspected and made sure to comply with the original, from the paint (which was originally white) to every single bolt. As per Jack’s wish, the car was restored and showcased to bring a smile to people’s faces. The goal was achieved but unfortunately Jack didn’t get to see it happen as he passed away a couple of months after selling his 507 to BMW.

Jimmy Ellis In The Shadow of A King (Book Review): The Jimmy "Orion" Ellis story is an intriguing one with many twists and turns. Born Jimmy Bell in Pascagoula, Mississippi in 1945, his unmarried mother, Gladys Bell (apart from their vocal similarity, Elvis and Jimmy had other things in common), was unable to care for baby Jimmy and gave him up for adoption. The birth certificate listed his father simply as Vernon! (no last name! - more about this later). A talented sportsperson at school, Jimmy's adult life would be inextricably connected to Elvis with a rollercoaster ride dominated by a mask and his vocal similarity to the King. It would also be a life of wild fan adulation and growing resentment on Jimmy's part as he struggled with not being accepted as a talented singer in his own right. Ultimately, his life was cut short in a tragic, double fatal shooting.

EINs Nigel Patterson recently delved into a fascinating account of the late singer's life - read Nigel's in-depth review.

Major Elvis Presley HBO Documentary confirmed: As EIN first reported on November 3, the new yet-to-be-titled HBO Entertainment documentary about the life and music of Elvis Presley, co-produced by Zach Russo and Ernst Jorgensen, has just ended pre-production and will debut on the HBO network.
Produced by Sony Pictures Television it is directed by Emmy and Grammy winner Thom Zimny, who has work on multiple Bruce Springsteen documentary and video projects, and written by Alan Light, the three-hour, two-part film presentation takes the audience on a comprehensive journey from Presely's childhood through his final Jungle Room recording sessions in 1976.
The project focuses on the man and his music, deconstructing why Presley's sound and style were so revolutionary, exploring why they made him the world's most legendary musical icon and revealing the cost of the massive success he achieved. The films were produced with the full participation of the Elvis Presley family estate and unprecedented access to Graceland archives. Footage includes shots from inside Presley's iconic home and more than 20 new, primary-source interviews with session players, producers, engineers, directors and others who knew him. The documentary also features never-before-seen photos and footage from private collections worldwide.
"The producers came to HBO and Sony with the idea for a film drawing upon very rare footage that captures Elvis' musicianship in a new and exciting way," reports HBO's Kary Antholis, "The artistry on display in that footage reminded us of the great work by Jon Landau and Thom Zimny on HBO films documenting the studio artistry of Bruce Springsteen, and we are thrilled to have them at the helm to lend their unique cinematic perspectives to this iconic, complex and singular artist."
Jon Landau, Glen Zipper, Priscilla Presley, Jerry Schilling, Andrew Solt, Alan Gasmer and Authentic Brands Group chief Jamie Salter executive produce; Zimny directs and produces; and Zach Russo and Ernst Jorgensen co-produce.

Being Elvis - A Lonely Life - strong sales on Amazon UK book charts: Ray Connolly's new book, Being Elvis - A Lonely Life, is experiencing strong sales in Britain (the book will be released in the USA in Feb 2017). A few days ago it was ranked:

Leon Russell Died aged 74: Legendary pianist/songwriter Leon Russell died last Sunday in Nashville. He was 74.
With his trademark top hat, long hair and beard Leon Russell was a flamboyant figure and major player in the early 1970s. He led Joe Cocker's band, appeared at George Harrison's 1971 Concert for Bangladesh in New York City and had numerous hits of his own, including "Tight Rope."
Many of his songs became hits for others, "Superstar" for the Carpenters, "Delta Lady" for Mr. Cocker and "This Masquerade" for George Benson. More than 100 acts have recorded his "A Song for You".
By the time he released his first solo album, in 1970, he had already played on hundreds of songs as one of the top studio musicians in Los Angeles.
Russell was a key player in LA's famous session band "The Wrecking Crew" and played on sessions for Phil Spector, Beach Boys, The Byrds, Frank Sinatra, Sam Cooke, Aretha Franklin, the Monkees among many others.
"The Wrecking Crew" played on plenty of Elvis' LA sessions although with pianist Don Randi and not actually Leon Russell.
Leon Russell however was a serious fan of Elvis and often started his later concerts with his "Elvis Presley" version of 'I Got A Woman'.
Russell was a good friend of James Burton and was once taken backstage in Las Vegas to meet Elvis.
Russell tells the story of being a fool, as the first question he asked The King was why Elvis had made so many lousy movies in the sixties!
It is believed that Elvis' group rehearsed Russell's 'Delta Lady' for possible inclusion in live performances although no tapes have ever been found.

James Burton however did play 'Delta Lady' as an instrumental at various Elvis 70's concerts so it is certain that Elvis was familiar with the song.
Leon Russell's composition "A Song for You" won a Grammy Award in 1993.

'A Vegas Fling With The King' New Import CD: Out soon is the 9th volume of Straight Arrow's "From The Booth Tapes" series. It's 2CD entitled "A Vegas Fling With The King" featuring Elvis' Dinner and Midnight show from February 12th, 1973. These recordings are taken directly from original 'booth recorded' mastertapes.
These concerts showcase Elvis in excellent form! Famous actor Jack Lord and his wife Marie were present for both shows. Elvis called out Jack's name, and Jack stood up. The applause was tremendous. Elvis grinned and said, 'Sit down, Jack, you're getting more applause than I am'.
Both shows are previously unreleased and 100% complete. The February 12, 1973 D/S is a completely new show, even for die-hard Elvis fans. It has never been in circulation - in any form. The February 12, 1973 M/S was in circulation in the form of amateur CDRs in very bad sound.
Comes in beautiful 4-panel digipak .

Elvis' Kid Galahad "Hidden Lodge" for sale: More than 50 years after Elvis sang "This is Living" from the porch of a lodge beneath towering Tahquitz Rock, many Idyllwild residents fondly recall when he came to film Kid Galahad.
In the 1962 film, Presley portrayed a young man just out of the Army who is training to be a prizefighter. His co-stars were Gig Young and Charles Bronson. He was helped on set by boxing trainer Al Silvani and former welterweight champion "Mushy" Callahan. Since the film's release, the location has drawn Presley fans from around the globe. Now, they can buy a piece of history. Hidden Lodge is for sale for $749,000.
Real estate broker Robin Oates was one of 50 Idyllwild School students who were extras. He recalls meeting Elvis at age 11 and recalls that it was a "big thrill."
"They would pull three or four kids out of school and have us for the day," he says. "We'd go into one of the local restaurants that the film crew rented and they would have a teacher there to give us instruction. Elvis and his cousin and others from the film crew would throw a football in the street during breaks. One time, several of us were told to stand in a certain area and
Elvis would come by. He appeared out of nowhere and gave us each an autograph. At night, fans would hang out in front of the house where he was staying. Somebody would come out and hand out photos of Elvis and try to get them to leave."
The crew filmed at many locations around town, such as Idyllwild Inn and a market in Fern Valley. Some stayed in private homes.
This year, 29 visitors came on tour from the UK to see the lodge. Bob Smith, volunteer archivist with Idyllwild Area Historical Society, escorted them. "It was a pilgrimage," says Smith, with a smile. "They all just stood and stared reverently."
When the movie was made, the property was 40 acres but was later subdivided for single-family homes. The lodge was built in the 1940s and became a resort for horseback riding and skiing.
Most prospective buyers are more interested in the upgrades in the 3,450 square foot lodge than the Hollywood connection, however everyone loves the porch where Elvis sang. The log-cabin-style building has great views of Tahquitz Rock and sleeps 20 people. The kitchen bar and stools are original, Raridon says, but the rest of the interior has seen many improvements over the decades. While the exterior has been upgraded, it's still recognizable from the film.
Kid Galahad was set in summer but filmed in Idyllwild in autumn. As the crew endured occasional snow and ice, some feared the actors' long johns would show beneath their shorts.

Robbie Williams "prays to Elvis" before he goes on stage:  Robbie Williams has revealed he "prays to Elvis Presley" before he goes on stage.
The UK superstar joked that he has a few words to say to the King of Rock and Roll before every gig whilst sipping on a strong coffee.
The 42-year-old singer - who has four-year-old daughter Theodora and two-year-old son Charlton with his wife Ayda Field - also revealed how he likes to relax after a gig watching football.
Williams is a well-known Elvis fan and has the tattoo "Elvis Grant Me Serenity" on his shoulder.
For his 2005 single "Advertising Space" the video had Robbie dressed like a young Elvis, and the song is about Elvis. Williams noted, "This was my 'True Romance' Tarantino Elvis song. The one where, like Christian Slater in the film, I like to believe I
have direct access to Elvis Presley every now and then."
His 2002 "Robbie Williams Show" cleverly copied Elvis' 68 Comeback Special even down to using exactly the same opener of "Trouble" with the same arrangement.
He also commented about using Botox to help him look younger, "I'm addicted to a lot of stuff that makes me feel full stop. Feel angry. There's an energy in that that's addictive. I'm addicted to stuff that strokes my ego, there's an energy to that. I'm addicted to everything about it."

'The Wonder Of You' Elvis with the RPO - In-depth CD Review: It is forty years since Elvis Presley entered a recording studio and he seems very reluctant to record anything new. So in terms of releasing a "new" album of Elvis material the topic has always been a tricky one. After the massive 2015 success of "Elvis with The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra" and ‘If I Can Dream’ the follow-up was inevitable and 'The Wonder Of You' recently achieved Number One in the UK album charts.
But can a follow-up really be as impressive - and do the true Elvis fans have to approve of these on-going fake "Revisions"?

Click here as EIN's Piers Beagley and Bryan Gruszka are back again to cause "Double-trouble" and supply a very detailed review, discovering what's good and bad...
And HAVE YOUR SAY - what do you think of the new album? Are we wrong in our opinions?

An Elvis tussle in Toledo: November 22 marks the 60th anniversary of Elvis Presley’s first Toledo concerts: 2:30 and 8 p.m. Thanksgiving Day at the Toledo Sports Arena in 1956.
While Elvis’ concerts are certainly the headline — particularly when he was the young rebel rock and roller — their importance is mostly as cultural milestones for Toledo, a city that more often sees the back end rather than the front end of national trends.
What’s been mostly forgotten about Elvis’ Thanksgiving concerts is the actual news from those shows, the “Presley Puncher.”
As reported by The Blade, Elvis was relaxing at the bar-lounge of the Commodore Perry Hotel in downtown with bandmates and handlers when a 19-year-old unemployed sheet metal worker named Louis Balint confronted him.
“He supposedly was incensed over his estranged wife’s admiration of the performer,” a Blade reporter wrote. Another article said Balint mouthed off to the young Presley — “I’m going to beat the hell out of you because my wife carried your picture instead of mine in her purse” — before taking a swing.
But as the saying goes, if you’re going to come at the King, you better not miss. Balint connected — once — and then Presley took it from there. By the time police broke up the fracas, Presley was pummeling Balint.
The Toledo tough was arrested and spent time in the Workhouse, until his dad wired bail money — $35 — to cover the fine and court costs. Presley wasn’t arrested and no charges were filed.
At this point the headline is something like “Toledo Teen Tussles with Elvis,” which is more than satisfying enough. But the story gets better and stranger.
Only two days out of jail, Balint was drinking beer in a local bar and claiming to a Blade reporter that the Presley fight was fixed.
“Sure, you don’t think I’d bust in like I did in that bar and swing at Presley without knowing I was to get some dough?” he said.
Balint, a former Los Angeles drama student, offered this explanation: A “sharp character” approached him at a bar between Presley concerts and promised him $200 if he would stage a fight with the singer to generate positive publicity. Only a month before, Presley had been in a fight with a Memphis gas station owner, which drew national attention; you know what they say about there being no such thing as bad publicity.
“To show you how phony the fight was,” Balint told The Blade, “the guy who fixed it had me give the cops my age as 19. I’m 22. The guy said 19 would sit better with the young chicks.
“I still haven’t seen the jerk,” he added later in the interview. “If my old man hadn’t read about it in the Los Angeles papers and sent me the money I’d still be in the clink.”
The Associated Press picked up the story and interviewed Balint’s 20-year-old wife, Joan. She denied carrying a photo of Presley. “I don’t like him, but then I don’t like most singers, but I do think Liberace is pretty good.”
In the same article, the AP noted that Balint returned to Los Angeles on a bus shortly after the incident. “Mrs. Balint declined to say whether she and her husband are estranged,” the AP story noted. “She and her two children are here in LA with relatives.”
And that’s where this story — his story — ends.
Scouring the Internet and other sources for more information about Balint — how to contact him or his relatives, and even whether he’s still alive — proved fruitless, as is verifying the veracity of his fixed-fight claim.
While an album title a few years after the incident suggested 50,000,000 Elvis Fans Can’t Be Wrong, chances are Balint vehemently disagreed.
“I read where Presley takes $16,000 out of Toledo for them two shows at the arena,” he told The Blade. “Sixteen grand and he’s too cheap to pay me my lousy $200.”

Melbourne adds second Elvis - Orchestra Concert: As noted by EIN last week, the first Australian Melbourne "Elvis. The Wonder Of You 2017" concert has Sold Out - even though it isn't until June 2017.
A second concert has now been added on Friday June 9, 2017.
Jerry Schilling is the Special Guest for the tour.
Schilling noted recently "Elvis was a pretty smart cookie and he had a lot of broad creative juices … he loved symphonic music and opera and he just loved music. He didn't care where it came from if it was great music.
Rather frustrating for him was that he didn't get to tour in Australia, New Zealand, Japan, England, all these places he wanted to go…  I think I lost my friend at an early age because of creative disappointment.
I give Priscilla a lot of credit, she was a hands on executive producer on If I Could Dream, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra first album, and The Wonder of You, the second album, and the title for this tour…. so it's going to be a real emotional tour, and real rocker as well."

The tour features Elvis’ voice and image on the big screen while a 40 piece orchestra play live along to his vocals.

Spliced Takes 'T-R-O-U-B-L-E' & 'Snowbird' New Imports: Two up-coming releases in the CMT/STAR produced "Spliced takes" series.
'Spliced Takes "-T-R-O-U-B-L-E" - Finally a "seventies" album! CMT is proud to present their latest release which promises to be another winner! Again the STAR team has done all the edits on this album, and they did an even better job, with lots of excellent edits, and surprises.
Unlike other "import" labels, they truly were able to produce an album using many incomplete takes, to create beautiful new tracks.
Their professional edits will blow you away, and will make you believe these are unreleased takes.
It starts with a great edit of "Trouble/Guitar Man" have we heard this before? "Ill Be There" has a complete different opening, "Pledging My Love" sounds very different, Moody Blue has the "Suspicious Minds" approach with fade in/fade out effect, "The Sound of You Cry" was shortened for a chance, and has more power than ever. "Kentucky Rain" runs much longer and listen to the drama in Elvis' voice! For the first time a "live-splice" was used and makes "It's Impossible" a great bonus!
With beautiful artwork, and strictly limited to 500 copies!
'Elvis Presley – Spliced Takes Snowbird': Perfect for the holidays, and another winner here! The best seasonal songs and gospels are included here.
Every year there are some "new" Elvis Christmas Albums.... they all have the same tracks over and over.... how nice to have something really new now!
One of THE highlights must be the alternate version of "Winter Wonderland" it has a totally new approach, and alternate ending which sound amazing! Another cool edit is the "single" version of "Merry Christmas Baby" without the overdubs! "The First Noel" sounds as if it is a RPO version, the original master was edited with the 2008 overdubbed version, and makes it more powerful than ever! As a bonus a "duet" version of "Mama Liked The Roses" is included, Elvis recorded two vocal overdubs, these are combined here to get a very unusual version.

‘Christmas, With Love’ New Import: It looks like other sellers are following STAR’s Spliced-Takes concept – Just announced ‘Christmas, With Love’ - A New Elvis Christmas Album - Like Never Before! With 12 New Edits, Overdubs & Remixes Plus 2 Rare Original Recordings!
Including a new duet version of "I’ll Be Home For Christmas", "Silent Night" with children choir,
A symphonic version of the love song "True Love", a great remix of "White Christmas", "Jingle Bells" from the Million Dollar Quartet, and many others!
Also includes tracks such as Can’t Help Falling In Love (Music Box Christmas Version) and Silent Night (Orchestra Version)..

Book Review - Elvis: Truth, Myth & Beyond An Intimate Conversation with Lamar Fike: Many of Elvis’ inner sanctum (family, friends and the Memphis Mafia) have released one or more books about their experience with Elvis. In 2011 it was anticipated that the larger than life, Lamar Fike, would finally publish his memoir. Publication plans were delayed as Lamar courted interest from Hollywood about a screen adaptation of his book. Then, very sadly, before the book was finished, Lamar passed away on 21 January 2011.

In 2016 it became known that before he died, Lamar had also spent several days with researchers L.E. McCullough and Harold F. Eggers, Jr. discussing his 23 years association and friendship with Elvis. The result of those discussions (400 questions and answers) have now been released in the book, Elvis: Truth, Myth & Beyond An Intimate Conversation with Lamar Fike Elvis Presley's Closest Friend and Confidant.

In the shadows of late afternoon, EIN's Nigel Patterson recently took off his blue suede shoes and delved deep inside Elvis: Truth, Myth & Beyond, to explore the germane, always interesting and clever mind of the late Lamar Rielly Fike. This is what Nigel found

Priscilla Confirms Elvis HBO documentary project & more:  In an recent interview Priscilla discussed projects to help keep Elvis' legacy in the market-place, including a new HBO Elvis documentary to be directed by Thom Zimny - who made 'The Ties That Bind' about Bruce Sprinteen's album The River.
She noted of "If I Can Dream" with the RPO  selling over 1.5 million copies world-wide, "That was a surprise, so we jumped right on with a follow-up it. We didn't want to lose the momentum."
Yet Priscilla still insists that the new album and tour is no mere catalogue cash-in. The way she sees it, these projects are educating even devoted fans that Elvis "was so much more than rock 'n' roll."
"Authentic" is a word Presley uses often to describe her work overseeing the EPE empire.
Priscilla also confirmed her involvement with a pair of television projects that she hopes will reveal something of "the inner Elvis Presley."
One is a limited-series TV biopic she's working on with the Weinstein Company (being filmed at Graceland), and the other is an HBO documentary directed by Thom Zimny, who's made several films about Bruce Springsteen.
Not that she's turning away entirely from flashier prospects.
In 2002, Dutch DJ Junkie XL scored an unlikely global hit with an amped-up remix of "A Little Less Conversation," and Priscilla said they are not opposed to trying something similar again "if we found the right DJ."  But the number of remixes submitted to Elvis' label "would overwhelm anyone.
Priscilla again seemed less enthused about touring an Elvis hologram, an idea she said had been presented to her.

New FTD Releases OUT NOW: The slightly delayed two new FTD releases, 'Elvis Gold Records Vol.4' Classic Album and 'TODAY' album as a special Vinyl release using the Original Studio Session & outtakes are both OUT NOW and at your local Elvis Dealer.
- 'Elvis’ Gold Records Volume 4' (2-CD) 'Classic Album'
It was 10 years after the release of Elvis’ Golden Records in 1958, that RCA Victor released 'Elvis’ Gold Records Volume 4.' It contained seven ‘B’ sides and only five ‘A’ sides. Whether at the behest of Colonel Tom Parker, or RCA, the philosophy of not including tracks that already featured on existing albums weakened what could have been a more powerful and hit-laden compilation. Although omitted from Volume 3 for the same reason, the addition of “Can’t Help Falling In Love”, “Return To Sender” would surely have enhanced it’s sales potential and the inclusion of “Crying In The Chapel” (albeit included on How Great Thou Art in 1967) should have provided the icing on the cake. However, for dedicated Elvis fans, it was still rewarding to get these songs on a long-playing album for the first time such as “Love Letters”, “It Hurts Me” and “A Mess Of Blues”.

Other hits that could have featured are added to Disc 1 as Bonus Tracks plus some unreleased studio outtakes while Disc 2 features the entire original album in glorious mono!

1174 Hillcrest Road for sale for $30 million: Elvis's famous Trousdale Estates home, 1174 Hillcrest Road, has been relisted on the market for $30 million, $29.6 million more than it was when "The King" bought it in 1973 for $400,000!
The 1958 French Regency-style estate is located in a "quiet cul-de-sac" and perched on a secluded piece of property, set back far behind gates and mature trees, with "sweeping city-to-ocean views of the world below", according to the listing.
Presley and his wife Priscilla shared the home for six years, but he sold it after the couple divorced in 1973. Since then, its undergone extensive interior renovations, but some exteriors from the original structure still remain, like, its surrounding bricks, the swimming pool and much of the outward stone décor - but more notably, the front gates, which is where Presley would greet fans.
The estate's return to the market comes after a two-year hiatus.
In 2012 the house was listed for the first time in more than two decades and purchased by Hard Rock Café founder Peter Morton for $9.8 million; when rumors came to light that he planned to demolish it and redevelop the valuable Trousdale Estates property it sits upon, there was a massive public outcry.

Because of the tremendous public opposition, Morton scrapped his plans and instead flipped the property for $14.5 million in 2014. The estate was purchased by a "mysterious corporate entity", Variety reported; the buyer has hung onto the property for the past two years and is now selling it for $30 million - double what he/she bought it for.

The 5,367-square-foot three-bedroom, five-bathroom estate advertises a renovated living room, kitchen and laundry room - along with new electrical wiring and a resurfacing of the pool and spa.

Curly Putman 'Green, Green Grass of Home' Composer Dies: Claude Putman Jr. aka  "Curly Putman" the "Green, Green Grass of Home" composer died on Sunday of heart failure at his home in Lebanon, Tenn. He was 85.
"The Green, Green Grass of Home" became a worldwide hit for Tom Jones in 1967 and in 1975 was also a UK Top 30 hit for Elvis, his other hits included "D-I-V-O-R-C-E" for Tammy Wynette and "He Stopped Loving Her Today" for George Jones.
"Curly" Putman turned out hundreds of songs, many of them country chart-toppers, after moving to Nashville and signing with Tree Publishing in the early 1960s. He was renowned as a song doctor who could transform a promising tune into a sure thing, and although he often wrote solo, many of his greatest hits were collaborative efforts.
His solo credits included "Dumb Blonde" (1967), which put Dolly Parton on the country charts for the first time, and "Blood Red and Goin' Down," a No. 1 hit for Tanya Tucker in 1973.
No song of his proved more durable or popular than "The Green, Green Grass of Home," about a man who imagines returning home to his family and sweetheart, only to wake up and realize that he has been dreaming in his prison cell.

Curly Putman noted, "I wrote the best song I ever wrote and didn't know what I was doing. I do know I was touched deeply when I was singing it. I almost cried. I was struggling, trying to come up with something different."
Claude Putman Jr. was born on Nov. 20, 1930, on Putman Mountain, near Princeton, Ala., northeast of Huntsville, named after the numerous Putmans who lived there. His father ran a sawmill.

Mr. Putman was inducted into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1976.

Elvis Birthplace Expansion Complete: After more than four years and more than $7 million, the renovation and expansion of the Elvis Birthplace and Museum is complete.
The third and final phase of the renovation was centred around the lake and surrounding area. The work added a water fountain, a new paved walkway around the lake, several benches along the path and replacement of the old bridge.
It's about 10 inches below normal, so we could use some rain.
The first phase of the project, unveiled in August 2012, added a new 126-seat theatre and a 75-seat outdoor amphitheatre.
The theatre is part of an event centre that includes a conference room, display area, exhibit hall, green room for entertainers, administrative offices and a smaller entertainment area.
The second phase of expansion, completed last year, added two Elvis statues, a memorial wall and pavilion, a picnic pavilion and a winding walkway from the amphitheatre to the overlook and a new parking lot.
About 80,000 people visit the Birthplace annually, with about 45 percent of the visitors coming from overseas.

'The Lost Performances -3' New Star DVD: Finally a new dvd with unreleased footage out soon from STAR label. A brand new release which includes some amazing stuff, all presented in Widescreen.
Starting just like the "original" release with an alternate version of "Walk A Mile.." this time the August 12 M.S. version is used, and it looks more complete then ever. A great way to start the "TTWII - treasures" segment, which includes some ultra rare, hard to find camera angles, in an amazing new sound.
Next up is a special "Iso Cam" recording  NBC did for their 1968 "Elvis" TV Special. They used an "hand-held" camera to fill in gaps or production errors. Seeing the show as a continues feed from one hand-held camera captures the live experience of this June 29th, 6 pm show like never before. Of course the sound of the tape has been edited with excellent sound.
On to the "On Tour Segment" , which has some great new edits on the March Rehearsal as well as excellent live performances;
"Live in Texas" includes unreleased performances of "Suspicious Minds" , "For the Good Times"  although the footage has some anyoing text in the picture, STAR managed to get that to the background, so it is a better viewing experience.
The program ends where it started, and some more cool TTWII rehearsals for you to enjoy!
As a special bonus three tracks from the "STAR" release "If I Can Dream" are  included.
Also as a bonus some UNRELEASED footage from "Greensboro" is included, the text here is very annoying, but it does however has "lost performances" of "Love Me Tender" Suspicious Minds" and "For the Good Times" all never released before!

News from earlier last week . . .
Saturday 29 October 2016 - - - ELVIS BACK AT UK NUMBER ONE - - -
Elvis smashes UK all-time Official Albums Chart record with 13th Number 1: ELVIS is still The King of the Official Chart almost 40 years after his passing, as his new album The Wonder Of You earns him a historic 13th Number 1 this week.
It also marks the most Number 1 albums achieved by any solo artist in the UK ever.
The second collection of orchestral re-workings of Elvis’ hits with the RPO shifted 63,500 to land straight in at Number 1.
While 13 may be an unlucky number for some, for Elvis it means a new chart record has been set - The King now has more Number 1 albums than any solo act in Official Chart history, overtaking the still very-much-alive Madonna’s 12 chart-toppers.
The Beatles hold the overall record for the most chart-topping albums in the UK, with 15 to their name.
Priscilla Presley told OfficialCharts, “This achievement is something I know Elvis would have been so thankful for."
Michael Bublé had to settle for second place this week with his ninth studio album Nobody But Me, while Lady Gaga’s Joanne finishes at Number 3.
Elsewhere in the Top 10 another oldie Leonard Cohen’s 14th LP You Want It Darker debuted at Number 4.

The Guest House at Graceland Opens: Graceland’s new, world-class, 450-room resort, The Guest House at Graceland, welcomed its first guests yesterday when Priscilla Presley joined Graceland executives to cut the “blue suede ribbon” to signify the official opening for the $92 million luxury property. Among the first guests to check in were Elvis Presley’s family members, friends and musicians, along with Elvis fans and Graceland visitors from around the world.
Inspired by Elvis’ personal style and the iconic Graceland Mansion, The Guest House at Graceland is the most significant enhancement to Graceland since it opened to the public in 1982, and the largest hotel project in Memphis in over 90 years. The resort hotel, which is situated just steps from Graceland Mansion, features 430 guest rooms and 20 specialty suites with design and décor supervised by Priscilla Presley.
The new luxury resort kicks off an era of expansion for Graceland, with development of a new 200,000 square foot entertainment complex, Elvis: Past, Present & Future, now under construction and scheduled to open in March 2017.
The Grand Opening Celebration Weekend events, open only to guests staying at the resort, included an “Elvis in Vegas” celebration concert featuring musician Terry Mike Jeffrey and legendary members of Elvis’ original “TCB Band,” James Burton, Glen D. Hardin and Ronnie Tutt; and a special broadcast of SiriusXM’s Elvis Radio Channel.
“Elvis Unplugged” with musician Andy Childs and acclaimed Elvis session musicians Norbert Putnam and David Briggs is planned for Saturday evening, and “The Gospel Side of Elvis,” featuring former members of JD Sumner and Stamps Quartet plus The Imperials’ Terry Blackwood is scheduled for Sunday morning.
A special “Auction at Graceland” is taking place this Saturday, October 29 at 3:00 p.m.
The NBC TODAY show included a special presentation to fans on the new Guest House, but strangely despite Priscilla stating that "Elvis was part of the whole design" fans can see that there are NO ELVIS PHOTOS or ELVIS LOGOS anywhere in the new Hotel.
Surely if you want to stay in an ELVIS THEMED HOTEL you need some "ELVIS"! What is EPE thinking?

Elvis Heads For UK Chart Record: With 6 hours to go before this week's UK Official Album chart is declared, Elvis Presley looks like being returned to the top UK #1 album - and is heading for a chart record.
Fans are still proclaiming “The wonder of Elvis” nearly 40 years after his death. The second collection of re-workings of his hits with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra (The Wonder Of You) is likely to leave the charts all shook up yet again. Its No. 1 rank would also give a record-breaking 60 years since his first British chart-topper in 1956.
If it holds on, it will also give Presley the most British No. 1 albums of any solo artist ever, ahead of Madonna with 12. The Beatles hold the record for the most chart-topping albums on the Official Chart, with 15.
On the mid-week count Elvis 'The Wonder of You' was leading the #2 Michael Bublé 'Nobody But Me' by around 6 thousand physical sales.
Very soon we will find out.
Elvis already made headlines with the album’s predecessor, If I Can Dream, which sold 1.6 million copies globally.

EIN exclusives and News from earlier in October . . .

'Long Black Limousine' EIN Spotlight: Elvis' fabulous 'Long Black Limousine' was composed by Vern Stovall and Bobby George and first released in 1958 by Wynn Stewart.
Cut at the Memphis Sessions in 1969 Elvis transformed Long Black Limousine from a country ballad to "a vehicle for savage social protest”.
The lyric is complex, the relationship between the narrator and his love remains unclear. The performance Elvis recorded on 13 January 1969 is full of funereal foreboding, arguably his darkest performance since Heartbreak Hotel and How’s The World Treating You?

Go here as respected author Paul Simpson takes a close look at this powerful song from Elvis' 1969 Memphis sessions...

Priscilla, 'My fear is that people will forget about Elvis': Priscilla was recently interviewed by the UK Guardian for a promo on the new album/ UK tour.
The interview included these comments from Priscilla..
- Growing up in the spotlight has been a battle. The lack of privacy, these days especially, can be hard work. Everyone’s got a camera phone so it’s not unusual to be sitting down for dinner with friends and find that someone is taking a photo as I’m forking salad into my mouth. I’m always on guard.
- My fear is that people will forget about Elvis. I feel a responsibility for keeping his legacy alive. You’ll never see his sort of stardom again. He was so authentic and, in lots of ways, innocent. What you saw was what you got.
- Elvis would have found modern times difficult. He was an intensely private man who was quite protected by his inner circle. The way he lived then wouldn’t be possible in 2016. Our lives – whether you’re famous or not – are so public now.
- Our family has always been very close. My parents are still alive: they’re 90 and 91. They live with me and while it’s an honour to still have them in my life, watching them get older makes me feel really sad.
- Bill Clinton has a charisma that commands your attention. It’s the only time other than with Elvis that I’ve felt someone has had that. When Bill is in a space, the whole rooms feels it. He’s magnetic.
- I really wish people would stop asking me what my favourite Elvis song is.

Leonardo DiCaprio to play Sam Phillips in Upcoming Biopic: Leonardo DiCaprio has signed on to produce and star in an upcoming, still-untitled biopic about Sun Records founder Sam Phillips, the rock pioneer who produced landmark records by Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Carl Perkins and many more.
Mick Jagger will also serve as a producer on the Paramount Pictures film, based on the Peter Guralnick's book Sam Phillips: The Man Who Invented Rock 'N' Roll. According to Deadline, Jagger will hold a similar role in helping to foster the Phillips story to the silver screen as the Rolling Stones singer played on the HBO music drama Vinyl.
Two years ago Jagger's company was also working on the film of Elvis' early life based on Guralnick's 'Last Train To Memphis' being directed by Kevin MacDonald but no more has been heard of the production.
Phillips founded the Memphis-based Sun Records in 1952, setting up the famed Sun Studio, where Presley laid down his earliest recordings, including first single "That's All Right," considered one of the earliest rock n' roll releases.
In addition to his string of hits on the Sun label, Phillips also oversaw the legendary and impromptu Million Dollar Quartet session in December 1956, when Presley, Cash, Perkins and Jerry Lee Lewis performed together. Phillips, who also championed for integration in the 1950s, died in 2003.
While DiCaprio's Appian Way secured the rights to Sam Phillips: The Man Who Invented Rock 'N' Roll, Variety reports that the role of the Sun Records honcho likely won't be the actor's first big screen role since his Oscar-winning turn in The Revenant.
DiCaprio and Davisson will produce along with Guralnick, Mick Jagger, Victoria Pearman, Steve Bing, Rick Yorn.

UPDATED with YOUR Comments - RPO tours WITHOUT the RPO: Have EPE lost the plot completely?: As EPE is about to embark on its latest venture, the 'Royal Philharmonic Orchestra' (RPO) tours, I think there's some questions that need to be asked, and some points that deserve to be raised.
The 2015 album of 'Elvis with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra' was a massive-seller both in Europe and Australia. To capitalise on this new chart success EPE have planned a worldwide tour featuring "Elvis" on stage backed by a 40-piece orchestra.
While 'If I Can Dream' was a huge success with the general public, the CD divided opinions among the hard-core Elvis collectors. The new "Elvis with the R.P.O" tour is bound to do the same.
However EPE has decided to save money by apparently using local "Pick-up" orchestras instead.
Go here as EIN contributor Arjan Deelen looks back at EPE's previous "Elvis Tours" and asks some tricky questions about this new Elvis - RPO money-making venture.
Reader's feedback so far includes
- Arjan is spot on! The years 2015/2016 have shown more clearly than ever that EPE are just out for the $.
- I disagree, no where on the poster does it state RPO would be performing ..  I and many others thought that Elvis Presley On Stage was a very good show indeed, TCB band are not as good as they once where.
- Arjan is correct, a 40 piece pick-up orchestra is a very different affair to the 82 piece RPO - or similar sized orchestras.
- An evening with friends enjoying Elvis accompanied by local musicians is not a bad thing as long as that's understood, BUT... the RPO and EPE have made a LOT of money off this, and I expect the full, honest-to-God, RPO to appear in Memphis at Elvis Week 2017
- What EPE are doing today is what Parker did with most of Elvis' career.
- Personally I have no problem that the Australian concerts are going to be without the RPO Orchestra.
I am grateful that's its touring Australia at all.

Send us YOUR comments to be included in the debate.

'The Wonder Of You' Album Review: The first independent media reviewer (from The Irish Examiner) gives the new album 3/5.
.... Thirty-nine years since Elvis' death, the deluge of ‘new’ Presley releases show little sign of receding. There have been 13 posthumous Presley albums in the past two years alone. Now there comes another: a revisiting of some of the King’s most iconic ballads with newly recorded accompaniment by Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.
The classical augmentations are for the most part respectful and understated. A swirl of strings and horns fleshes out the bottomless melancholy of ‘Always On My Mind’ while ‘The Wonder Of You’ negotiates the artery-clogging embellishment more or less unscarred.
Yet there are moments when the urge to over-egg proves irresistible, with ‘Suspicious Minds’ floundering under layers of treacly strings and ‘I Just Can’t Help Believin’, a tune plenty dramatic to begin with, weighed down with over-wrought brass and an instrumental break that sucks the track’s lifeblood.
The Wonder Of You was conceived by 71-year-old ex-wife Priscilla, who has devoted the latter half of her life to keeping Presley in the public eye.
“I’m aware that there are a lot of Elvis purists out there, but he and the Royal Philharmonic fit so well,” she said .“People don’t realise that he loved classical music: he would listen to Brahms and Mozart, as well as gospel and blues.”
That may be so and, with an earlier hook-up with the same orchestra, 2015’s If I Can Dream, selling more than two million units worldwide, the financial imperatives for the new project are clear . Yet the best bits here are when the orchestra is scarcely noticeable and Elvis has the floor to himself. It’s when he is shoved aside that the whiff of cash-in becomes hard to ignore.

Elvira got career advice from Elvis: Actress Cassandra Peterson’s road to becoming horror icon Elvira was long and winding, but one of the more fascinating steps involved her getting career from Elvis Presley while the teenage Peterson was working as a showgirl in Las Vegas.
“I was 17 when I started as a showgirl in Las Vegas,” says Peterson, who has just published a coffee table book of photographs featuring her alter-ego, called Elvira—Mistress of the Dark. “I’ve been told I was the youngest showgirl in Las Vegas history, and I imagine that’s probably true. My parents had to sign a document with a lawyer, saying it was okay for me to work in the show. I was at the Dunes Hotel in a show called Viva Les Girls. It was really odd. I had to come and go by the back door. I was not allowed to go into the casino, drink, gamble. But I was allowed to dance onstage in my skivvies! Isn’t that bizarre? I tell people that story and they don’t believe it. I don’t believe it myself. It was a very very weird thing, 17 and dancing in Vegas.”

“Elvis came to see my show. He invited me to a party at his suite, along with lots of other people, and he really kind of took to me, I think because I was 17, and probably all the other showgirls there were in their 30s. Anyway, I loved Elvis. I had grown up with Elvis being one of my idols. My parents were giant Elvis fans. The fact that I was meeting Elvis was beyond belief. We did hang out one whole evening, a whole night, the next morning, and mostly talked, believe it or not.

There was some kissing going on. But Elvis was watched very closely, since they were aware that I was [very young]. But he couldn’t have been more wonderful and I really do credit him with changing my life. I, at the time, thought I had reached the pinnacle of show business, becoming a Las Vegas showgirl. Elvis convinced me that this was no town for a young girl to be in, by herself, and that it would not lead to bigger and better things, that if I really wanted to make it in show business that I needed to get the Hell out of Vegas. So, I always say to people, I started out as the youngest showgirl in Vegas and, if it wasn’t for Elvis, I would now be the oldest showgirl. -
My God, can you imagine? Aye-yai-yai!”

New ‘The Wonder Of You’ Elvis with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra:With perfect synchronicity to our EIN Spotlight above, another promotional track for the new Elvis Presley with the Royal Philharmonic album has been released.
This time it is 'The Wonder of You' which as an original single had a powerful Glen Hardin orchestral arrangement and dripped with a stunning live lead vocal from Elvis. The 1970 single made #1 in Europe - so why tinker with is now? Was it not good enough?
Album producer Don Reedman says, “When Elvis decided to put it into his Las Vegas act I loved the way he put his energy and passion into the song and made the lyric so uplifting and positive. But I felt it could sound bigger and better with our production with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and would be a wonderful song to finish the album. That's why I felt it was the right song to title the album with; it leaves you feeling uplifted and joyful, the way Elvis liked to make his audience and fans feel.”
Sadly this new version makes EIN feel a little sick. Possibly their worst re-version yet.
The orchestra now sounds like "Elevator-muzak" and the original power and emotion of Elvis SINGING WITH THE ORCHESTRA LIVE ON STAGE has been removed. Elvis discussed and approved of the original orchestral arrangement - this is embarrassing. - Go HERE to VEVO to listen

‘Memphis Recording Service: The Complete Works 1953 – 1955’: MRS will release a 2CD/100page book compilation titled ‘Memphis Recording Service: The Complete Works 1953 – 1955’ on the 25th November 2016.

The remastering of Elvis’ first acetate recordings – ‘My Happiness’ and ‘That’s When Your Heartaches Begin’ (from July 1953) – has also well exceeded the sound quality ever achieved before on these primitive recordings. Furthermore, on the outtakes of ‘Blue Moon’, the painstaking audio restoration has removed the overload and studio hum present on previous issues, and made them sound much better than ever before.  Indeed, all previous erroneous mastering faults and miscalculations have been rectified on this release, making it the best collection of these seminal recordings thus far.
MRS will also release a few weeks after the CD release, a 2LP 180 Gram Vinyl version titled ‘ MEMPHIS RECORDING SERVICE: MASTERS & SESSIONS 1953 – 1955’ with a bonus 4 page photo insert on the 16th December 2016.

2016 - Elvis Presley #4 Forbes Top-Earning Dead Celebrity: In a shocker of a year Elvis hasn't been pulling his weight - and for the first time in decades has dropped down to forth place in Forbes list of top-earning dead celebrities.
New entries for 2016 are (sadly) David Bowie and Prince. Prince's pre-tax income is estimated at $25m (£20.5m) by the business magazine, putting him fifth in the list, while Bowie is ranked at 11th. Both are dwarfed by pop star Michael Jackson who tops the list once again with a record-breaking estimated income of $825m  up from $115 million last year.
Elvis earned a lowly $27 million over the past year earning him the No. 4 spot - the last two years saw an income of $55 million.
Though Presley’s 2016 earnings are listed at half of last year’s total, a change in methodology for counting ticket sales - and not plummeting demand - this year accounted for Forbes shift in income.
Michael Jackson’s once-only sale of half of the Sony/ATV music publishing catalog for $750 million was the reason for his being the top this year.
Peanuts creator Charles Schulz claims the second spot with $48 million.
US golfer Arnold Palmer, who died last month aged 87, enters the chart at three with estimated earnings of $40m.
Top five Forbes magazine Top-Earning Dead Celebrities 2016.
1. Michael Jackson - $825 million
2. Charles Schulz - $48 million
3. Arnold Palmer - $40 million
4. Elvis Presley - $27 million
5. Prince - $25 million

Last year - Top five Forbes magazine Top-Earning Dead Celebrities 2015.
1. Michael Jackson $115 million
2. Elvis Presley $55 million
3. Charles Schulz ('Peanuts' creator) $40 million.
4. Bob Marley $21 million.
5. Elizabeth Taylor $20 million.

There is no doubt that things will change radically next year

October FTD Releases: FTD have confirmed two new releases for later this month including 'Elvis Gold Records Vol.4' as a Classic Album that we already knew about. The second release is the 'TODAY' album as a special release using the Original Studio Session.

'The Hometown Shows' FTD In-depth Review: FTD's new release 'ELVIS: The Hometown Shows' is another double-CD this time focusing on Elvis' Memphis performance from 1974 / 75.  It features two legendary shows from the Mid-South Coliseum, Memphis, the March 17, 1974 (Evening show) and June 10, 1975 performance.
The March 17, 1974 ES soundboard is a brand new unreleased show, while June 10 1975 is one of Elvis' best mid-seventies concerts which has been previously out on bootleg. Both are excellent shows and in GREAT sound.
This 1975 concert provided us with the great Ed Bonja cover photo for the 'From EP Boulevard' album so you know Elvis was up for a good time!

'The Death and Resurrection of Elvis Presley' - Book Review: Elvis Aaron Presley is more popular today than ever, yet he died nearly forty years ago. His music is constantly remixed and re-released to a new generation of fans, and his image thrives in popular art and culture. Elvis is the subject of some truly astonishing rumours and legends, including the one that he never actually died. In the new book, The Death and Resurrection of Elvis Presley, author Ted Harrison asks what lies behind the remarkable resurrection in popular culture of the King of Rock 'n' Roll.  It tells the story of Elvis after Elvis. It shows how his estate, which was pillaged by his manager, was saved through the business acumen and financial vision of his ex-wife Priscilla Presley. It explores a spiritual dimension to the Elvis revival, where fans create a fantasy quasi-religion through which they blend and confuse Elvis and Jesus.
Published in 2016 this is a thoroughly researched book that brings us up-to-date with recent developments.  Harrison draws on existing publications on the same topic, as well as websites and correspondence, conversations and interviews with many Elvis fans and associates conducted over 25 years, to make a well-argued case.  He finally proposes possible future directions for this extraordinary Elvis phenomenon.

Cliff Richard duets with Elvis on new album: Sir Cliff Richard will “duet” with Elvis and 'Blues Suede Shoes' on Cliff's new album, announced just days after the singer was told that he will not be charged over allegations of historical sexual abuse.
Sir Cliff, 75, will make his pop comeback on a new collection of classic rock ‘n’roll covers released in November.
Sir Cliff has hit sights set on a Christmas #1, after the Crown Prosecution confirmed the decision not to prosecute him over allegations. Sir Cliff said it was time to return to “the thing I love best”, on an album, called 'Just… Fabulous Rock ‘n’ Roll', which celebrates a “more innocent time”.
The album features new renditions of seminal tracks such as Roll Over Beethoven, Great Balls of Fire, Sweet Little Sixteen, the highlight is a “duet” between Sir Cliff and Elvis on Blue Suede Shoes. Richard, originally styled as a British rival to “the King”, admitted that he owed his career to Elvis.
Sir Cliff was unable to fulfil his dream of duetting with Elvis before the star’s 1977 death. But studio trickery, endorsed by the Presley estate, finally allows their voices to share the same song. Previous posthumous Elvis duets have featured Susan Boyle and Barbra Streisand.

Larry Muhoberac, Elvis piano man, in Sydney nursing home: It has been sadly reported that Larry Muhoberac is now living in a nursing home on the Sydney Central Coast. It was Muhoberac who played piano for Elvis' at his sensational Las Vegas return to live performing.
In fact, Larry Muhoberac’s hands have also doubled for Elvis’ in several movie scenes of The King playing the piano.
And while Elvis left the building long ago, Muhoberac who also played alongside Ray Charles, Neil Diamond and Barbra Streisand before moving to Australia with his wife Andra in 1986 - is now living at a nursing home near Sydney.
Sadly Muhoberac’s communication skills are not what they were, after being diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia, but the 79-year-old feels like getting his blue suede shoes on when he hears an Elvis song.
“Clearly something different and something significant happens when Elvis comes on,” wife Andra said.
In an interview early last year, Muhoberac recalled his first meeting with The King at Graceland.
“My initial impression was that he was very quiet. Nothing outrageous. No outrageous behaviour, at that time he didn’t have all the guards. He had one person at the gate to see who was coming in. I drove up. The guard says, ‘Well, go around back’. I drove up the driveway and went to the back door. He still had a screen-door entrance and everything else.”
He has fond memories of working on four of Elvis’ films — Frankie And Johnny (1966), Paradise Hawaiian Style (1966), Speedway (1968) and Stay Away Joe (1968) after moving to Memphis to find his musical fortune.
“The movie cues, the underscore cues, were done with a full orchestra and a rhythm section but when it came time to do the single songs, which were the performance numbers in the movie, we’d be over at Radio Recorders, which is a more intimate environment for recording, and it would just be the band and a rhythm section and sometimes The Jordanaires and the Anita Kerr Singers,” he recalled.
He remembers working with Elvis, Charles and Streisand with great affection.
“It was great fun and you got to see Hollywood. We were looked after really well. All the times were good.”
Muhoberac said Elvis had “a great feeling for the timing of the song. He contributed that and that was a major contribution. If a song was a little under or over the tempo, Elvis was very aware of that.”
He said he was shocked when he saw Elvis on TV shortly before his death at the age of 42 in 1977.
“You’ve got to realise that (Elvis) was a physical fitness fanatic,” he said.
“Then I saw him on TV and I couldn’t believe it. Something had happened. All the dissipated features, the general lack of physical health. He did not look healthy. He looked very ill.”
“You know, of all the people I have ever worked with the only person people ever ask about is Elvis. At the time you just did your job,” he said.
And with Elvis’ timeless music as a comfort, Muhoberac won’t be lonesome tonight.

'All Shook Up' - FTD CD review: One of the best releases to highlight Larry Muhoberac's contribution on piano is this Midnight concert from August 26th 1969. The excitement of Elvis' return to live performances in August 1969 would never be repeated. On his Midnight shows Elvis had no time limit, was able to perform to his maximum and on this special night he was in a fabulously funny mood & as loose as a goose! ‘All Shook Up’ captures Elvis’ truly infectious laughter while at the same time Larry Muhoberac's piano driven mix. EIN sent Larry a copy of this great CD for his collection back in 2005(FTD Review, Source: EIN)

UPDATED - 'Secrets and Lies: Getting to the Truth about Elvis' Christmas Album': Probably more than any other album of his career, Elvis’ Christmas Album is generally regarded as having created the most controversy.
Some would argue that the first album in 1956 did this, but actually there was relatively little backlash against it or Elvis in the press prior to the second Milton Berle appearance. Elvis’ Christmas Album, however, has stories of it being banned by radio stations, firings of DJs, and an irate Irving Berlin all attached to it.
These events make for great stories, have been often repeated, and only add to the legend of the boy from Tupelo taking on the establishment and coming out with #1 album.
But are they really true?
Go here to this fascinating EIN spotlight where author Shane Brown investigates and checks the facts and the fantasy - now updated with your comments & more info

"Elvis: Truth, Myth & Beyond" New Book:  EIN has had a few readers question us about this new book from Lamar Fike. However Marty Lacker has confirmed that it is a book that Lamar wanted to publish - but never managed to finish before he sadly passed away. The book has been finally completed by Lamar's cousin (Tommy McDonald) put  together from Lamar's writing with the help of a friend, Harold Eggers. Marty tells EIN that it is a fine book with some good stories and info within its covers. Lamar's cousin is a "good guy" and this is what Lamar would have liked to have seen published for the fans.
"Elvis: Truth, Myth & Beyond - An Intimate Conversation with Lamar Fike, Elvis Presley's Closest Friend and Confidant" presents 400 questions about Presley's life and career with in-depth answers by good friend, Lamar Fike.
This 190-page book of informed and tantalizing insights into the character of the man who irreversibly changed 20th-century musical and cultural history.
A member of Elvis' famed "Memphis Mafia", Fike lived with Elvis and his parents at Graceland in 1957-58 and became intimately aware of the complex family history and dynamics that would influence Elvis until his final hour.
The book features recollections about Fike and Presley by music industry luminaries including Ray Baker, Jimmy Bowen, Jerry Chesnut and Anita Wood - with a special foreword by Fike's good friend Marty Lacker. In conversations with the authors, Lamar Fike repeatedly emphasized this book as a way of presenting and preserving as much "real truth" about Elvis as possible.

Trevor Simpson talks about "Elvis: His Songs of Praise": Out later this month is the first of two volumes titled "Elvis: His Songs of Praise" from author Trevor Simpson.
The two volumes will combine to over 700 pages chronicling the 100 sacred, spiritual and inspirational gospel songs sung by Elvis. Volume 1 promises over 350 pages with lavishly illustrated high-quality images, many unseen photographs and graphics as well as a 30-track special bonus CD.

EIN noted that our original 'His Songs Of Praise' tracklisting we posted was not correct. While confirming the track selection EIN's Piers Beagley took the chance to ask author Trevor Simpson some questions about his new book as well as this interesting CD selection.

(Interview) Bill "Superfoot" Wallace talks to EIN: Bill was full contact Professional Karate Association (PKA) Middleweight Champion from 1974 to 1980. He appeared in numerous films and continues to tour the world presenting seminars on the martial arts.
Bill became good friends with Elvis and the Memphis Mafia, training with him and hanging out at Graceland. In a wide ranging interview, Bill recently talked with EIN’s Nigel Patterson about his life, Elvis, martial arts and some of his friends including Red West, Ed Parker, Chuck Norris and Jackie Chan.
In his scintillating interview Bill also talks about Elvis' proficiency as a martial artist and recounts the time Bill and members of the Memphis Mafia confronted an armed biker gang in what became a life threatening incident!

UPDATED - 'Way Down In The Jungle Room' EIN Review:  Released for August 2016 this SONY Legacy pack celebrates the 40th anniversary of Elvis’ last recording sessions which took place in Graceland’s Jungle Room.
The publicity noted the sessions “have been newly mixed by Matt Ross-Spang at Sam Phillips Recording” and “includes both outtakes and in-the-studio dialog, providing a ‘fly-on-the-wall experience’ of what the sessions were like".
Elvis' original 76/77 albums were fairly uninspired collections (bar a few fine singles) and on the original LPs it was almost impossible to glimpse any sign of creative input from Elvis through the syrupy overdubs. It wasn't until the release of FTD’s magnificent ‘The Jungle Room Sessions’ that many fans began to understand the raw emotion, close camaraderie and Elvis’ personal feelings that were revealed by these intimate Graceland sessions.
To produce that same kind of revelation for the 'General Public' would be a very tricky project but that is exactly what the new legacy team has done - and to great effect.

"We were in bed cheering him on," Thompson said. "Sure enough, he crosses the finish line. He's the picture of health and All-American good looks. Elvis looks at me: 'I'm not gay, but that's one good-looking guy right there.' I said, 'Yeah, he sure is. Matter of fact, I'm going to marry him one day.' Elvis said, 'Over my dead body!'
"It was a joke at the time. I think he tackled me in the bed or something after that."
A year later, Elvis died. Thompson met Jenner two years later. They dated and were married.
A former Memphian, Thompson recounts her years with Elvis and her marriage to Jenner, now Caitlyn Jenner, in her new book, "A Little Thing Called Life: On Loving Elvis Presley, Bruce Jenner, and Songs in Between."
Thompson met Elvis at the old Memphian theater, which the King rented for a movie showing for his cohorts. "He burst through the side door dressed as Dracula — flared pants, black cape with red lining and sunglasses on," she said. "It was July 6, 1972, and it was sweltering hot in Memphis. So humid and hot. I was kind of taken aback by how he was dressed." Elvis shined a flashlight in the faces of people in the theater. When the light hit Thompson, he said, "Oh, hello, honey."

"And kind of sauntered over in this Elvis-esque manner," said Thompson, who then was introduced to the King with her new "Miss Tennessee Universe" title. "I had no designs on him. I was very cordial as Miss Tennessee, (with the) beauty queen smile fixed on my face."
Elvis changed seats so he could sit next to her. "I was a little pert: 'To what do we owe this honor? We're kind of dressed as Dracula tonight. Well, why are you dressed like that?'"
Elvis said, "Honey, I just stepped from an air-conditioned car to an air-conditioned building."
They hit it off. They both had the "same slightly acerbic" sense of humor, Thompson said. "Not mean-spirited. We looked for the inane in every situation. He was one of the funniest people I met in my life. I think more than anything he just loved to laugh. He found humor even in the darkest of situations."
Elvis and Thompson spent 4½ years together. "It would be hard to have met him and spent any time with him and not to have liked him or loved him. He was that kind of charismatic, sincere, authentic, warm and generous spirit. A really unique human being."
Thompson and Elvis broke up around Christmas 1976. "I did not break up with him because I didn't love him anymore. I'll probably love him till the day I die. In fact, I'm sure I will. There's always a place in my heart for him. But I wanted more for my life. I wanted to be a mother. Live a more normal life. I knew Elvis was not monogamous. We could get married, but he'd have other women. His prescription drug problem had gotten worse when I was with him. It would ebb and flow, but it would never go away."

In 1979, Thompson presented an award to Jenner at a charity event. A regular on TV's "Hee Haw," she was introduced as a "Hee Haw Honey" and a former Miss Tennessee Universe. "I was just a little ingénue. A newbie out there. He was separated from his wife. And we just gradually started dating. We both really liked each other a lot." - They dated for 1½ years and were married in 1981.
Thompson never suspected Jenner was transgender. "Not a clue in the world. Just like the rest of the world. I thought he was the most virile, manly man I had ever met. This was a guy!"
Her sons now are in their 30s, Thompson said. "Bruce was not a great father," she said. "Not a participatory parent. He was out of their lives for many years, but they have learned to forgive him, which, I think, is another great lesson in this. I hope people perceive this book in the same spirit I was writing it — love, acceptance, tolerance, compassion. The kids have embraced all those noble qualities and incorporated them into who they are. And made me so proud the way they've embraced Caitlyn. They're not ashamed. That's part of life. That's who she is.
"It's the same quality I found in Elvis. You have to be able to find the humor in almost every situation. And the irony. And be abe to embrace life and let it flow through you."
Thompson has moved on. "In fact, another title for the book could have been, 'Elvis and Bruce Jenner have left the Building.'

Did Elvis Record 'Tiger Man' At Sun?: A question that has puzzled Elvis fans through the years is whether he actually recorded the song ‘Tiger Man’ during his years at SUN studios.
The basic question is why did Elvis refer to 'Tiger man' several times in concert as “The second song that I ever recorded, not too many people heard it”?
And if Elvis DID record it, then why hasn’t any reference to it at SUN or proof of its existence been found?
Elvis would first perform ‘Tiger Man’ in concert at his first 1969 Las Vegas International season and would continue playing it through the years – usually in a medley with Mystery Train - until his last performance at Saginaw on May 3 1977. He would sing it over 150 times on stage!
The thought that there might be an acetate or undiscovered tape of Elvis at SUN singing ‘Tiger Man’ is a mouth-watering concept - but is it an unlikely fantasy or strong possibility?
Go here to our detailed 'TIGER MAN' spotlight as EIN's Piers Beagley puts in the hard yards to check the facts from the fantasy .
