Elvis Presley crypt to be sold in Memorabilia auction!:  The private mausoleum crypt in Memphis, Tennessee in which Elvis Presley was first buried is to be sold at auction.
The lot includes the crypt itself, the right to open and close the vault for a burial, a memorial inscription and the use of a small chapel for a service.
The person who will be able to buy the opportunity will be laid to rest in the private crypt after his or her death, where the singer was originally placed after his death in 1977.
In an unbelievably tacky statement Darren Julien, who is conducting the auction, said "I just consider that if you're an ultimate fan of Elvis Presley, it's an opportunity. It's definitely a conversation piece. Only one person can say, 'Hey, I'm going to be buried where Elvis Presley was'," he said.
Following Presley's funeral at his Graceland home in August 1977, his body was temporarily entombed in a crypt at Forest Hill Cemetery. Around 80,000 people lined the processional route that Presley's coffin took from Graceland to Forest Hill.
Within two months, both his body and that of his mother Gladys were moved to a permanent site in the meditation garden on the Graceland grounds.
Presley's body was at the tomb at Forest Hill Cemetery in Memphis, for around two months before it was transferred to be re-laid at his home in
Graceland.
The lot will be auctioned on JUNE 23rd for a starting price of $100,000, which will include the opening and closing of the vault and crypt for burial, a memorial inscription and the use of the chapel for a committal service.
Elvis Matters has started a petition 'Say NO to the Auction'. CLICK HERE to sign

'The Elvis Mag' #77: Out Now is the 'Essential Elvis' new May/June magazine #77. It features a detailed article on Elvis' Circle G Ranch and the operation to save it for Elvis fans. The Stamps Bill Baize (far right) gives a lengthy interview on his times spent with Elvis, plus the continuing look at composer Randy Starr's (rather unspectacular!) work and the usual reviews and news.

It is worth noting today that The Elvis Mag previous issue #76 featured a lengthy article about 'The Forest Hill Cemetery' where the administrator of the cemetery stated "This is a very special place and I personally consider a sale to be extremely unlikely. This place of pilgrimage is an asset to our cemetery"!
How things change in just a few months!

'The Wedding' EIN Spotlight: Whatever people's own personal feelings are toward Priscilla, Elvis clearly loved her. We can debate whether he was ‘pushed’ in to marriage by outside forces or whether Elvis who belonged to the women of the world should have married at all, but the fact is that Elvis did marry Priscilla 45 years ago. May 1st 1967 was no ordinary day in Elvis' life.
There were however some odd choices to the day and the ‘last minute’ exclusion of some of those who grew-up with Elvis was a particularly bad and hurtful.
Marty Lacker was Elvis' co-Best Man at the wedding and he has kindly given EIN permission to publish his story of what happened on that famous day.

The Hump fails at Eurovision: Legendary entertainer Engelbert Humperdinck wore his lucky TCB necklace that was given to him by Elvis in a bid to win the annual Eurovision Song Contest on Saturday night.
The 76-year-old crooner, the oldest singer ever to compete, performed new track "Love Will Set You Free" as the entrant for the U.K. at the show in Baku, Azerbaijan - and he hoped a pendant Presley handed him in the 1970s would help him triumph.
The thunderbolt-shaped charm features the initials TCB, standing for the rocker's motto Taking Care of Business, and Humperdinck told Britain's The Sun before the competition, "I am wearing it for luck. I am hoping it will channel some of Elvis's wonderful success down here. I want to channel Elvis' power and help me in this competition. Nobody is perfect and we all need help, even from someone above. Elvis only gave them to certain people he cared for. I am glad I was one of them."
The TCB didn't work though as Swedish singer Loreen won the contest while "The Hump" ended up second last - just one position above Norway, famous for gaining "nul points" in the annual competition

EIN asked our good friend Marty Lacker about the somewhat surprising news report below..
Marty replied.. That surprises me because Bobby and I were friends and he never talked that way before. He recorded at American and would show up every once in awhile because he lived in L.A. He did play on some early sessions at American Studios but  I do not remember Bobby playing on Suspicious Minds or any of Elvis' songs..  Somehow or another I think whatever they took out of his head has messed him up and made him bitter.  I have not seen him in years. - Marty Lacker.
Bobby Womack thinks Elvis "stole" his entire career! The soul music legend Bobby Womack said this week that he played on Elvis' track 'Suspicious Minds', but wasn't impressed by the star.
After a recent cancer scare the UK tabloids report that Womack said: "People say: 'What did you think of Elvis Presley?' I say: 'He wasn't s**t. Everything he got he stole.'"
Bobby also wrote one of The Rolling Stones first ever hits, 'The Last Time', and worked with the band on their 1986 album 'Dirty Work'. While he got on with some members of the band, he "had a problem" with singer Sir Mick Jagger.
Speaking about 'The Last Time', he added: "To be honest with you, I said: 'Let the Rolling Stones get their own f***ing record and record that."
Speaking of Mick, he added: "Some people never grow up if you give 'em too much. They gonna be as*holes, then they just become a bigger as*hole."
EIN notes that recently Womack has had a tumour removed and perhaps this is causing him to be nasty to other performers and previous friends.
His statements can be considered as rubbish since there is no proof in the studio session logs that he ever played on the 'Suspicious Minds' session at all. Maybe this is all a tabloid news beat-up?

Elvis in 'Speedway' tomorrow on Channel Nine Australia: Hardly big news, however the SMH newspaper included this rather amusing review. Nine Australia Sunday 1.30pm.

.. Elvis is at his scintillating best as Steve Grayson, a cash-strapped racing car driver in this routine musical with a plot you could engrave on a bottle top with an outboard motor. If you haven't already read the complete story on a Fantale wrapper or can't recall the ingenious and intricate plot after 40-odd years, it revolves around Steve's efforts to keep racing after being banjaxed by an unscrupulous accountant who failed to lodge his tax returns. A few crooning gigs keep the carefree young revhead competitive as he seeks the big prize money but the IRS has deployed Susan Jacks (Nancy Sinatra) to the case. These boots were made for kicking the tripe out of you, Steve! What unfolds is a full-tilt Norman Taurog contrivance with Elvis miming his way through the quota of pop-oriented blancmange. Poncie Ponce also appears.

Noted Elvis author, Alanna Nash, out of Wintersun Festival?: No official word yet, but it appears that Alanna Nash, who was to be one of the special guests at next month's Wintersun Festival in Coffs Harbour, Australia, is no longer coming "downunder".

More news when we receive it. (News, Source: EIN)

Official Confirmation: Wintersun advises: Unfortunately due to difficulties arranging suitable travel to fit both a busy schedule and a tight Wintersun programme Alanna Nash will not be visiting Wintersun this year. Both Alanna and the festival are very keen to see her at Wintersun 2013.

Elvis gift could be Engelbert Humperdinck's Lucky Eurovision Charm:

ENGELBERT Humperdinck will be carrying a prized gift from Elvis Presley to bring him luck as he performs in the Eurovision Song Contest tomorrow night.

The crooner is one of a handful of people from the King's circle of friends who were given one of his TCB necklaces - which stands for "taking care of business."

And the 76-year-old will have the treasured trinket with him when he represents the UK in Baku, Azerbaijan, against other acts from around Europe.

A source said: "He has it in his pocket all the time, to bring him luck.

Only a few exist and they are priceless, Elvis only gave them to his friends. He wants to channel some of his charisma and spirit for his Eurovision performance."

Humperdinck will be up against acts such as Irish contestants Jedward when they perform at the kitsch and glittery show in Baku's Crystal Hall. Bookmaker William Hill now puts both acts at 14-1 to win the competition and said Eurovision has proved a huge money-spinner for the betting industry this year. The firm predicts that more than £10 million will have been paid out in stakes for this year's competition, but it said Sweden is favourite to win among UK fans, rather than chart veteran Humperdinck.

"Our UK punters are more sceptical after years of disappointments and are all over Sweden," said William Hill spokesman Rupert Adams.

Choreographer Arlene Phillips, who is the staging director for Humperdinck's performance, said: "How fortunate we are that the UK has the 'King of Song' representing us this year.

"So all I needed to do was add a little magic to surround him. Come on, Engelbert, bring it home."

Humperdinck - whose 1960s hits include Release Me and The Last Waltz - flew in to Azerbaijan almost a week ago to prepare for the final. Earlier this week, he had to hitch a ride from police to the contest venue when the bus on which the UK contingent were travelling broke down.

"The Hump" has also been enjoying a bit of home comfort while out in Baku, visiting the London Pub where he enjoyed tucking into fish and chips as well as playing darts, one of his favourite pastimes. He has also met the Azerbaijani contestant, Sabrina (pictured above), who told him he was one of her all-time favourite singers. And she gave him a bird's eye view of her native city from the roof of the Hilton Baku Hotel.

Sabina wore a T-shirt with his photo bearing the phrase: "Engelbert King of Hearts."

And she handed him a shirt with her picture and the words "From Baku with Love", telling him: "It is a pleasure to have you here in Baku.

"I hope you know how much Azerbaijani people love you."

"Taking Care of Business" was a personal motto of Elvis, and also the name of the main group of musicians who formed his backing band. He had the initials TCB painted on the tail of his personal jet, along with a lightning flash.

Liam Gallagher had the letters and symbol tattooed on his arm in tribute - as well as to cover up the name of his first wife, Patsy Kensit. (News, Marion McMullen, Coventry Telegraph)

New Italian text book: "Elvis in concert 1945-1977": Italian fan club president, Sebastiano Cecere, has released a mammoth new book with just under 800 pages!

Published by Nuovi Equilibri ISBN-10: 886222267X / ISBN-13: 978-8862222679. Price from Amazon Italy is 32.30 Euro plus postage.

Note: Text is in Italian.

While the English translation below could be improved, at 797 pages this could well be a book worth checking out. (News, Source: Gianfranco Pastore)

English text description/translation: Elvis is alive. Not because - as some fans are willing to swear - staged his death August 16, 1977. Elvis is alive because his figure, the mythology that has arisen around his person, his influence on the world of pop and rock, on the whole society are immortal.

Elvis was the embodiment of the spirit of the times. More important for historical purposes for the second half of the twentieth century many political figures and so-called high culture, was an icon of youth in the Fifties claimed its right to exist, have fun, spend and love in America (and in world). Then, he became the very symbol of the show business forwarded to the Seventies, when, among other things, changed forever the rock face.

This book is the most detailed account ever appeared on the international level, the concert of Elvis, and accompanies us day by day in the life of the performer Presley. Consulting sources and thousands of years patiently collecting direct and indirect evidence, Sebastiano Cecere has completed a huge work: the local press has scoured America, interviewed dozens of people who attended the concerts of Elvis, heard all the recordings emerged , read and compared to the limitless resources "elvisiana", tracing the contradictions and bringing out new interpretations and new data.

It's a long journey into the heart of America, a map that reconstructs affectionately, but objectively, the emotional geography of a state and a humble guy who suddenly became the biggest music star of all time, with all his tics, its weaknesses, its profound humanity. Not surprisingly, when it comes to rock, you instinctively gives as date of birth was 1954, when Presley appears "officially" on the scene with the first single ...

Vicar quits church to become Elvis impersonator: There will be a little less congregation and a little more action for this former vicar from now on following his decision to quit the church to become an Elvis impersonator.

Reverend Andy Kelso made the shock decision after he received a message from God to spread the word of the King while he was out walking his dogs, reported Metro.

The 64-year-old has now swapped the Church of England for that of Elvis after setting up the Elvis Gospel Tribute Act. “One day I was out walking the dogs in between church services and I felt God say to me very strongly “take Elvis to the church”, revealed Elvis Prayersley.

‘It was a shock but after one concert there was a lot of interest from churches who wanted to connect with their communities and my tribute act seems to connect. When I play, the venues are packed out and I’ve not looked back since.” There was no crying in the chapel following his shock decision to ditch his white collar in favour of a white jumpsuit among his parishioners in Redditch, Worcestershire, as a few of them are now fans of his Elvis tribute. He added, “Let’s just say God has a sense of humour. I spent 25 years doing the one thing I vowed I never would - being a vicar. Now people who wouldn’t normally come to church are coming to a great evening out with some food for thought.” (Odd Spot, Source: Daily Times Monitor, Pakistan)

Four New June FTD Releases: The following FOUR releases have been announced by FTD for late June.
'G.I. Blues Vol.1' Classic Album – The long-awaited first volume of G.I. BLUES material in the classic album series. As always in a 7" inch digi pack format with booklet. However like the ‘Jailhouse Rock Classic album’ the first volume will be without the In-and-Outtakes section, which will be featured in Volume 2 and will summarize all the G.I. Blues recordings. A lot of effort (and money) has gone into making these the best sounding G.I. Blues recordings ever.

‘From Hawaii To Las Vegas’ (Unreleased 1973 Rehearsal)- The new 5" digi pack release ‘From Hawaii To Las Vegas’ is from a previously unreleased cassette recording of Elvis’ January 25 1973 dress rehearsal for his January/February Las Vegas Hilton season. The rough audio quality is more than compensated by the fascinating insight into how Elvis worked in order

to create his shows. With little talk, and a lot of music, we are invited to a first row presentation of what Elvis had in mind, and yet he decided to change the repertoire the next day. Among the many songs is "Separate Ways" – rehearsed with and without the orchestra - a song that Elvis chose to never perform in public. This will be a fabulous collectors’ release.
The one track ‘I'm Leavin' It All Up To You’ was previously released on the FTD ‘Stage Rehearsal’ and was one of the best tracks on that compilation. The audio quality was pretty good as we noted in our review "Elvis tries it out in rehearsal and it’s another spontaneous Elvis moment, luckily captured in pretty good sound – the best quality bonus track here."
Tracklist: 1) Something 2) You Gave Me A Mountain 3) Steamroller Blues 4) My Way 5) Love Me 6) It’s Over 7) Blue Suede Shoes, I’m So Lonesome I Could Cry 9) Welcome To My World 10) I’ll Remember You 11) Long Tall Sally/Whole Lotta Shakin’ Goin’ On 12) An American Trilogy 13) A Big Hunk O’ Love 14) I’m Leavin’ It All Up To You 15) Faded Love 16) I Can’t Stop Loving You 17) Separate Ways

– with band 18) Separate Ways – with band and orchestra 19) Bridge Over Troubled Water 20) Can’t Help Falling In Love - incomplete Recorded on stage January 25, 1973 at the Las Vegas Hilton.

‘From Memphis To Hollywood’ Book: Hot on the heels of WELCOME HOME ELVIS comes its sequel, another Flaming Star production written by David English, which brings Elvis from Memphis back to the movie making business in Hollywood, and the actual production of G.I. BLUES. As with WELCOME HOME ELVIS the book features an album – this time not surprising the newly found original mono LP master for G.I. BLUES. As with its predecessor, the book is filled to the brim with great, rare and informative photos and documents.

‘That’s The Way It Is’ Double-Vinyl: A Special Limited Edition 2-disc 180-gram vinyl set. This release follows the other FTD special edition albums.
• Vinyl cutting by ABBEY ROAD STUDIOS
• DMM Copper Mastering
• 180 Grams heavyweight vinyl
• Strictly limited pressing

Train from Liberty Land amusement park For Sale: The owners of the park train from liberty land amusement park in memphis tennessee are trying to find it a new home. While the Zippin Pippin was more famous as Elvis' roller coaster, there must be some interest in the train among fans of the king. It was in operation until October of 2005 and there is little doubt that Elvis would have taken Priscilla and Lisa Marie for rides on it. It is a classic 24 gage iron horse built by Allan Herschell. It could be a conversation piece, a collectable, or a working tribute to his memory. They have everything the engine, five cars, signals, liberty land sign, and 3/4 mile of track with ties. The funfair ride looks fantastic fun – If only EIN had a huge backyard! The price is around $100,000.

TCM salutes Elvis as a Teen Idol: In a salute to teen idols, Elvis is front and center on the new cover of Turner Classic Movie's June Now Playing guide. TCM will be saluting 16 of the biggest teen heart throbs though out the years. Elvis, along with James Dean, Pat Boone, Ricky Nelson, and Davy Jones are just a few of the idols TCM will be saluting.
Turner said, "We looked at the festival as a whole, and thought that Elvis conveyed the concept of "teen idol" and was also a big enough sensation to carry the cover on his own, not to mention that he hasn’t graced the cover yet, so it was about time and this was the perfect tie-in!"

EIN will add your TCM reminder later for Elvis June movies.

Bee Gee, Robin Gibb dies at 62; Robin Gibb, one-third of the Bee Gees the pop group that stood at the forefront of the disco era with its "Saturday Night Fever" soundtrack died yesterday after a long battle with cancer. The singer-songwriter was 62. Robin Gibb (left in the photo) and his brothers, Maurice and Barry, produced a string of memorable hits starting in the mid-sixties. Robin Gibb not only co-wrote many of the Bee Gees' best-known songs, he also sang lead vocals for the group in their formative years. The Bee Gees peaked in the disco era with the music but proved a formidable force in the industry, selling more than 120 million records over a career that spanned four decades. Only Elvis Presley, The Beatles, Michael Jackson, Garth Brooks and Paul McCartney have outsold the Bee Gees.
Elvis recorded their song "Words" back in 1970 at his 'That's The Way It Is' season.

Of the song Robin Gibb said, "'Words' reflects a mood. It was written after an argument. Barry had been arguing with someone, I had been arguing with someone, and happened to be in the same mood. They were just words. That is what the song is all about; words can make you happy or words can make you sad."

Surviving brother Barry Gibb noted, "One of my favorite covers done of a song of ours is Elvis doing "Words." Even though it was live, it was recorded and that's nice. We only ever found out that Elvis recorded the song when we saw the actual film where he sings it live. We didn't know he'd recorded it until we saw that. Elvis was definitely a big influence on me personally. At my age when he was really big I was about eight or nine years old so that was the most impressionable period for me.

‘Lisa Marie Presley at the Grammy Museum’ : Last Thursday Lisa Marie appeared at the Grammy Museum's Clive Davis Theater in LA. EIN contributors Joan & Paul Gansky were there to report on seeing Lisa Marie up close and personal!
... The theatre holds about 200 and so is a very intimate concert venue. Lisa Marie was calm, warm, collected, lovely and really – Amazing! For thirty minutes, Lisa Marie was interviewed by Grammy Museum VP Scott Goldman. Everyone listened intently as she reviewed her singing career to date, and her style of song writing, drawing on her personal life experiences. She also shared tidbits about her life in England during the past seven years. It was especially insightful hearing how Lisa Marie learned to enjoy cooking, and also to love gardening, even in the rain!
Following the very enjoyable interview and many good questions from the audience, Lisa Marie brought on her small band (three guitarists, drummer and pianist), and performed five of her country/blues songs from Storm & Grace, including Soften The Blows and Storm & Grace. She had us longing for more.
The Grammy Museum audience was ecstatic and gave Lisa Marie a long and very enthusiastic standing ovation.
In the LA Times Lisa Marie explains more, "I was insulated," adding
that in the past, like her famous father, she surrounded herself with a team of friends and employees who told her only what she wanted to hear. "There was a scene woven around me that I had helped weave. It was a personal scene -- employees, friends. It was an entourage. That’s all a big mistake. It’s all the stuff that happens to a typical L.A., high-profile… You know, that scene."
But no one really does. After all, Elvis, the King of Rock ’n’ Roll, had but one daughter, and it’s not many who see their childhood home in Memphis become an international tourist attraction.
After the last album ‘Now What’ Lisa Marie notes, "I went through a period where I was so upset at how obscured I had been, I intentionally sought out everything bad that was written about me. If you’re looking for it, you’re going to get it."
The album was brought to producer T Bone Burnett by Simon Fuller, Lisa Marie’s manager who is best-known for creating the "American Idol" franchise. It was Fuller who encouraged Presley to retreat to England where she now lives.
Although she likes the songs on her first two albums, she was uncomfortable with everything that came along with selling them, and now regrets having been placed "in some category with other rock stars."
Lisa Marie says, "If I’m pushed somewhere, I’ll go the other way. So when someone came backstage and told me to dress sexy, I went out and wore giant combat boots and safety pins and did whatever I could to not be sexy."
"I have to say, I very much wanted to make a record her dad would have dug," Burnett says. "That was important to me. I wanted to make a record everybody would dig, but especially him, for some reason. He’s such an inspirational figure. She’s part of our royal family."
There’s no irony, Burnett says, in Presley retreating to England to reconnect with a sound that draws from her roots. He clarifies that she had to "disconnect with those other American roots," the ones that encouraged her to chase pop stardom. Presley phrases it as a search for something she’s never really known: normalcy.
"When I moved to England I would hang out at the local pub, and they were such good people there," Presley says. "They knew right from wrong. If someone came in and was drunk and acting like a jerk, they’d get thrown out. There was common sense. I needed to be around people with common sense."

Trousers Elvis wore to go under hammer at town auction: THE TROUSERS that held the hips that rocked the world will go on sale in Swindon tomorrow.

Originally belonging to none other than Elvis Presley, the item of clothing is set to cause a stir among fans of the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll when they go on sale at Town Auctions.

Also going under the hammer will be a strand of Elvis’ hair, featured in the Adver last month.

Town Auctions owner Craig Cook is delighted to have the items up for sale and is expecting a big turnout at the auction room in Central Trading Estate.

“We had a great response from the feature on Elvis’ hair both from buyers and sellers.

“The owner of Elvis’ trousers didn’t even know we existed until a colleague showed her the Adver and suggested she contact us regarding the trousers.”

The trousers are cream in colour and by Sy Devore.

They were worn by Elvis in the 1950s and are presented in a double picture mount with photograph prints of the singer allegedly wearing the trousers.

Craig said: “The size of the trousers is unknown because they are in a frame, however they are from the 50s so it is the younger, leaner Elvis we are talking about.

“The couple that have owned them recently have enjoyed them and now wish them to go to a real fan and free up some wall space for something else. They look really good in the special frame, and when you think about, they are the trousers that held the hips that rocked America and subsequently shaped popular music from then on.”

Back in 2009, a strand of Elvis’ hair raised £1,055 at auction at Henry Aldridge and Sons, in Devizes, despite it expecting to make just £250. And in November 2002, another strand of his hair sold for $115,000 – about £70,000 – in an internet auction.

The trousers, as well as the hair which comes with a certificate of authenticity and is mounted in a frame alongside a photograph of Elvis, will go up for auction along with other items of memorabilia tomorrow from 11am.

TONIGHT Lisa Marie Presley Performs on American Idol: Lisa Marie will be making a guest appearance on American Idol on US TV tonight Thursday, May 17 8:00/7:00 CT.
Previous winner and Elvis fan Adam Lambert, along with Lisa Marie Presley will perform their latest singles.
The Top Three Jessica, Philip and Joshua also sing three songs each as they will perform a song chosen by their mentor, music producer Jimmy Iovine, a song chosen by one of the judges and their own choice song.
Lisa Marie's new CD "Storm and Grace" is being praised for its raw, edgy southern roots sound. Produced with elegant restraint by 12-time GRAMMY winner T Bone Burnett, "Storm & Grace" is an unflinchingly honest piece of work. With its rootsy, Americana vibe, it is, she acknowledges, a departure from her previous albums.

Irish Radio DJ "Tubs" heading for Graceland: Ryan Tubridy the Irish Late Late Show host will be getting in touch with his musical side over the coming months with a road trip to see Elvis Presley's home in Graceland.
Speaking at the 200th Anniversary of Clifden in the Westbury Hotel, dad-of-two Tubs divulged that he's been a closet Elvis fan for years and can't wait to visit the King's famous pad.
"I'm definitely going to try and get abroad for a little bit ... I'm a huge Elvis fan, an unlikely one I know, but I know all of his songs. A friend of mine and myself are thinking about doing it. We haven't finalised details yet, but it would be fantastic," Ryan said. The personality will be jetting back and forth to the UK over the next few months, to cover for well-known anchor Chris Evans on his popular breakfast show on the Beeb.
The now out-of-the-closet Elvis fan will be stepping into studio for his first few days over the June bank holiday weekend.

FTD "Sun" Project out in August 2012: 'A Boy From Tupelo - Complete 53-55 Recordings' the deluxe book + 3CD set has been announced for August release. For over five years “Follow That Dream” /Sony Elvis Committee president Ernst Jorgensen has been working on the Definitive Elvis At Sun Records & book, which is possibly the most ambitious project of his entire career. The Genesis of rock n roll has to be the combination of Elvis and the Memphis based Sun Records Company, and at last this outstanding labour of love is about to be published.
This will be no ordinary volume of facts and figures. It will be a massive superlative Elvis Presley production including the rarest of pictures, recording data, the real story behind Elvis’ time at Sun with unique Elvis artifacts, photographs, together with a companion of Elvis Sun recordings on THREE CDs which will excite your senses.
"A Boy From Tupelo - Complete 53-55 Recordings" includes for the first time in one collection every known Elvis Presley SUN master and outtake, plus two private records Elvis paid for with his own money, as well as thrilling radio and concert performances from the period. This 3 CD package features 10 previously-unreleased cuts.
The accompanying book is, in essence, a fully-illustrated travelogue. It thoughtfully details the birth of Elvis' career through
facts, anecdotes, documentation, many rare photos, and a succinct narrative. Independence Day 1954 is when this uniquely American saga begins, less than 24 hours before his first professional recording session, and it ends in December 1955, when the rights to Elvis' SUN tapes officially expire, and the singer leaves Sam Phillips to record for RCA. This is Elvis Presley before he becomes world-famous, and the mystery of how this amazing young man readies himself for stardom, achieving success on a level that no one could have dreamed possible.
All audio has been re-mastered and restored as best we could, but Disc 3 has pretty rough audio. The book is 512 pages in 12” by 12” format and includes more than 500 photos of which about 200 are previously unpublished. If you are not an expert in this period of Elvis’ career, a lot more photos will be new to you. Many familiar photos will be seen in best ever quality, but since this is a historical document, there will also be many images of less quality, included for their rarity value and support of the story. The book also includes, for the first time, Steve Sholes’ original notes on the Sun tapes.
The project will come in a slip case (like “Young man With The Big Beat”) that holds both the book and the CD holder (a double album type package).
The purchase price noted is EU:99 euro = US$126

'Our Memories of Elvis Vols 1,2 &3' FTD CD Review: Ernst Jorgensen originally said that FTD were unlikely to release this Joan Deary 1979 "Pure Elvis Sound" concept on CD stating, "I think we have more important things to do."
However FTD have discovered 18 Previously Unreleased "Pure Elvis Sound" tracks and in 2012 have now issued a stunning 38 track compilation gathering up all the audio engineer Dick Bogert created "Pure Elvis Sound" masters. And what a great concept it is.
Most of the selected tracks were Elvis' Master versions with some but not all of the overdubs removed - and were unique. These tracks were almost never the "Undubbed Masters" that are now being released on FTD.
Go here as EIN's Piers Beagley digs deep, providing an incredibly in-depth review - examining every track in detail and discovers The Good and The Disappointing...

Donald "Duck" Dunn, STAX bassist, dies aged 70: Donald "Duck" Dunn, the bassist who helped create the gritty Memphis soul sound at Stax Records in the 1960s as part of the legendary group Booker T. and the MGs and contributed to such classics as 'In the Midnight Hour', 'Hold On, I'm Coming' and 'Sitting on the Dock of the Bay', died yesterday aged 70.
Dunn, whose legacy as one of the most respected session musicians in the business also included work with John Belushi and Dan Aykroyd's Blues Brothers as well as with Eric Clapton, Neil Young and Bob Dylan, died while on tour in Tokyo.
Steve Cropper who was on the same tour said Dunn died in his sleep.
Dunn was born in Memphis in 1941, and by the time Dunn was in high school, he was in a band with Cropper. Cropper left to become a session player at Stax, the Memphis record company that would become known for its soul recordings and artists such as Otis Redding, Sam and Dave, Isaac Hayes and the Staples Singers.
Dunn soon followed Cropper and joined the Stax house band, also known as Booker T. and the MGs. - CLICK HERE to a fabulous live 'Green Onions' with Duck Dunn really getting down - It is from the mid sixties STAX tour of Europe
It was one of the first racially integrated soul groups, with two whites (Dunn on bass and Cropper on guitar) and two blacks (Booker T. Jones on organ and Al Jackson on drums), and was later inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
The group had its heyday in the 1960s as backup for various Stax artists.
When Elvis recorded at STAX in July 1973 Duck Dunn and STAX drummer Al Jackson were there for last two night's recording. Unfortunately Elvis' favourite microphone was lost and the session stopped when Elvis walked out. Only two tracks were recorded 'Girl Of Mine' and the backing track to 'Sweet Angeline' (see 'Memories of Elvis' FTD review)
Dunn received a lifetime achievement Grammy in 2007. - Go here to STAX for more info about "Duck" Dunn
(News, Source;MartyLacker/ElvisInfoNetwork)
EIN asked Marty Lacker how well he knew "Duck" Dunn and if he knew why Elvis never chose to record any STAX songs?
Marty Lacker ... Duck and I were good friends as well as me and Steve Cropper.  Duck wasn't too happy with the direction the Elvis Stax sessions were taking and that had a lot to do with the fact that Elvis didn't give a damn about doing those sessions.  Elvis did them because Parker and RCA were nagging him to record, especially Parker.  Duck was a great guy and he was funny as hell.  He and Cropper were like brothers.

As for the STAX songs as potential Elvis covers, that's one thing that I think of in hindsight - why I didn't suggest some of those songs from the Stax artists and songwriters.  I should have done that at the American sessions where the musicians and Chips would have done those songs justice. I doubt they would have come out that good in Nashville or L.A. sessions. - Marty

Storm & Grace (CD Review): After 7 long years, Lisa Marie Presley's 3rd album is due to hit record and online stores in a few days time. Storm & Grace is a departure from her earlier albums as Lisa Marie visits her musical "roots".

About her new album Lisa Marie has stated:

"There were a few years there where everything around me had fallen apart. All the things that had become my foundation were gone and I had to shed a lot of skin. I found myself really vulnerable afterward and that's what birthed the album’s vibe. It’s me without any attitude or anger at a time of rediscovery."

So has it been worth the wait?

Nigel Patterson put on his headphones and cranked up the volume on his hi-fi to find out what all the fuss is about.

Read EIN's detailed review of (and access music video links to) an album which will surprise many fans!

Princess Diana's Elvis dress to go on show in glittering ballgown exhibition charting 60 years of British style:

One of Diana, Princess of Wales's favourite dresses is to go on show as part of a glittering display of ballgowns at the V&A.  The South Kensington museum is set to unveil the new exhibition, charting six decades of lavish British style, later this month.

Ballgowns: British Glamour Since 1950 will feature more than sixty designs created for glittering social events over the past 60 years, from all sorts of events, taking in private parties, Royal balls, state occasions and star-studded premieres.

A selection of royal ballgowns will be on display, including the white pearl-studded gown designed by Catherine Walker for Diana, Princess of Wales. Diana dubbed the garment, studded with 20,000 pearls, the 'Elvis Dress', thanks to the fact it was inspired by the late singer's stage costumes.

She loved the dress so much that she wore it twice, once on an official tour of Hong Kong in 1989, and shortly afterwards to the British Fashion Awards in London. (News, Source: DailyMail.co.uk)

Elvis sings downtown: Music filled Scales Street last Friday night as shoppers took advantage of discounts and special treats in downtown Reidsville, North Carolina during the annual Girls Night Out event. The event is held in conjunction with Mother’s Day, giving women the opportunity to shop and enjoy treats in Reidsville.

Twenty-nine stores stayed open late for the event. Each store picked an Elvis-inspired theme highlighting their stores.

The Fish Market’s theme was “Clam Bake.” Reidsville Bicycles’ theme was “C.C. Ryder.” Dent, Ding, Discount’s theme was “Crying in the Chapel” and the store was giving away a veil and bouquet. Reidsville Florist’s theme was “Blue Hawaii.”

Everyone who entered the store received leis and could sign up for a wine tasting and a raffle.

La Boutique was decorated like a jail, with its theme being “Jail House Rock.” Everyone who entered received a “get out of jail free” discount card.

Further up the road, Elvis Presley, impersonated by Wayne Euliss, was drawing in crowds of people. Bleachers were set up for people to sit and enjoy the music. Others danced near the bleachers.

“He seems to be very popular,” Main Street Manager Terresia Scoble said. “I just hope people are going downtown and shopping too.” (News, Source: Danielle Battaglia, GoDanRiver.com)

Meet Lisa Marie Presley at Sun Studio: On Monday, May 14, at 7:00 pm, fans can meet Lisa Marie Presley at Sun Studio in Memphis and be among the first to purchase her new album, “Storm & Grace,” and have her personally sign it.

Then, on Thursday, May 17, American Express will present “An Evening with Lisa Marie Presley” at the GRAMMY Museum’s Clive Davis Theater in downtown Los Angeles. Doors will open at 7:30 p.m. After an interview Presley will take questions and perform a selection of songs from Storm & Grace. Please go to www.grammymuseum.org for more information.

Also, be sure to tune into “Good Morning America” on Tuesday, May 15, for a special segment that will feature her performing the lead single, “You Ain’t Seen Nothin’ Yet,”   at the legendary Sun Studio in her hometown of Memphis. Presley will also make appearances on “American Idol” (5/17), “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno” (5/21), and “Jimmy Kimmel Live” (5/22).

“Storm & Grace" is the album she was born to make – a raw, powerful country, folk and blues collection that finds her embracing her Southern roots and family name,” said Rolling Stone.

Entertainment Weekly praised the “smoky, spooky” single “You Ain’t Seen Nothing Yet” while Spinner.com observed: “Presley has made the strongest album of her career in the upcoming 'Storm & Grace.' It's a moody masterpiece, exploring the demons and angels of her life to the tune of country-spiced downbeat pop.”

The album, which is available for pre-order now on the iTunes Store, is Presley’s first in five years and marks her Universal Republic/XIX Recordings debut. Produced with elegant restraint by 12-time GRAMMY winner T Bone Burnett, "Storm & Grace" is an unflinchingly honest piece of work. With its rootsy, Americana vibe, it is, she acknowledges, a departure from her previous albums.

“This album is a lot more stripped-down and naked, both musically and lyrically,” says Lisa Marie. “It’s me without any attitude or anger at a time of rediscovery.”

Andy Warhol Elvis print hangs in Australia's National Gallery: Further to our lead story yesterday about the sale of Andy Warhol's Double Elvis, we found this related story interesting.

T he National Gallery of Australia never talks figures, financial ones anyway. But it is well aware of the value of a screenprinted painting of a young snake-hipped Elvis Presley by Andy Warhol which has been standing more than two metres high on its walls for almost 40 years.

The National Gallery's curator international paintings and sculpture Lucina Ward said the price achieved this week for the Double Elvis wasn't ''a huge surprise''.

Ms Ward said its Elvis was purchased in 1973, just a decade after it was produced.

She wouldn't reveal the purchase price of the Elvis all those years ago.

''We don't talk about acquisition prices, but let's just say when the work was acquired they were just starting to become more expensive,'' she said.

Did the gallery snag a bargain?

(The Australian National Galley print is of a single image of Elvis)

''A bargain? Yes, it was very good to buy an Elvis in 1973 rather than in 2012.''

And did she know the work's value now?

''Yes, but I can't tell you,'' she said.

Ms Ward said the gallery's Elvis would probably not fetch as much on the open market as the Double Elvis.

''They're much watched because the majority are in public collections now and those double ones are particularly admired, because it emphasises the printing process,'' she said.

A still of Presley appearing in the western Flaming Star was screenprinted by Warhol 28 times in black paint on to a roll of silver-painted canvas in various combinations - singly, superimposed doubly and triply, and in pairs.

Sotheby's said of the 22 works in the Elvis series, nine were in museum collections, including the National Gallery. (News, Source: The Canberra Times)

EIN Note: For many years the side of a number of ACTION buses in Canberra (the capital of Australia) were adorned with the Warhiol Elvis print as publicity for the National Gallery.

Fans dressed as Elvis to pack Swansea City Liberty Stadium: Elvis is packing stadiums again, but this time it will be Swansea City Swan fans dressed as the king for their final game of the season. According to Metro UK, costume shop owners in Swansea City have reported a huge demand from fans wanting to be Elvis for a day.

Swansea City boss Brendan Rodgers told the press, "I will be asking all the fans if they can wear as many Elvis Presley costumes as we can because when we got promoted the bookies, said there was more chance of seeing Elvis Presley than us staying at this level."

“Elvis Presley was a great lover of sports and loved all sorts of athletics. He personally arranged many football games on the front lawn of Graceland. No doubt this Sunday’s match against Liverpool FC will be both a tribute to the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll as well as to the skill and tenacity of the Swans," said Scott Williams, Elvis Presley Enterprises Vice-President of Marketing and Media.  "All of us at Graceland wish good luck to everyone competing and hope everyone gets a chance for “a little less conversation and little more action!”

On Sunday, May 13, Swan Fans are expected to line up at the Whales Liberty Stadium in their finest Elvis attire after defying all expectations in their debut Premier League season.

"There has been a big demand for costumes, for wigs and for glasses, and it hasn't stopped," said costume shop owner Carol Guy. Swansea City boss calling on fans to pay tribute to the king. (News, Source: EPE)

‘Original Elvis Tribute’ Europe Shows Great Success & Returns in MAY 2013: With Ginger Holladay’s arrival home yesterday, the ‘Original Elvis Tribute’ tour featuring Elvis' musicians Duke Bardwell, Bobby Wood, Jerome ‘Stump’ Monroe and the Holladay Sisters has now officially concluded. And what a tour it was! This was easily the show’s most successful tour yet: great attendances, enthusiastic crowds and tremendous shows. The show itself was once again a great mix of the classics and lesser-known songs like ‘For The Heart’ and ‘Any Day Now’.
CLICK HERE to a clip of the show rocking out on 'My Babe'
One of the tour’s highlights was the April 12th show at the Savoy Theater in Helsinki, where the band and the crowd celebrated Mary Holladay’s birthday. Everybody joined in and sang ‘Happy Birthday Mary’, while tour producer Arjan Deelen came on stage with a big birthday cake. Imagine the shock of everybody when Ginger Holladay tripped over one of the monitors and fell right in the

middle of the birthday song! "Even as a kid she was always trying to upstage me, and she’s still doing it!", Mary laughingly commented. Fortunately, Ginger was fine - though slightly embarrassed - and the band rocked the night away in Helsinki. ‘The Original Elvis Tribute’ will be back in May ’13, and shows have already been booked in Holland: on May 18th at De Melkweg in Amsterdam and on May 19th at 013 in Tilburg. We will have updates shortly on Luxembourg, Germany, Finland, Norway and Sweden.

The Day Elvis Came to Cleveland: Fifty four years ago Aline Landrum (right) met Elvis and his band in a café in Cleveland - she recently told her story to James Hefley of the Cleveland Historical Society.
On September 12, 1957, a black Cadillac pulled up to the Little Shamrock, a small café that was located on the south end of Cleveland where Highway 105 meets Washington Avenue.
In the car were band members and a singer who had done a show in Houston and were headed north, probably on their way back to Memphis. The singer was Elvis Presley. They had stopped at the Little Shamrock for breakfast and to fill the car up with gas before continuing their journey.
Aline Landrum was the waitress who served Elvis that morning. A woman named Dorothy Briscoe took two photos of Elvis shown below; one outside and one inside the café. Mrs Landrum, who still lives in Cleveland, recalls that Elvis ordered a big breakfast consisting of two eggs, an order of bacon, double order of toast, coffee, pancakes, a piece of chocolate pie and a Pepsi Cola.

New FTDs Delayed: FTD dealers have been informed today that the new FTD product, which was supposed to be out late April, has been delayed.
'Elvis The Man & His Music' reports they've been told FTD hope to ship stock to us on May 14th.
But don't hold your breath FTD are legendary when it comes to not sticking to dates.
- 'Another Saturday Night' 1975 soundboard: A previously unreleased concert, from June 7 1975 Evening Show not even on a bootleg audience recording, plus three well-chosen bonus tracks! If one place is to be picked as the most important in the career of Elvis Presley, it is without doubt Shreveport in the northwest part of Louisiana. The exposure that Elvis got through the radio broadcast of The Louisiana Hayride in 1954-56 was one of the key factors of establishing the early part of his career. With the exception of Las Vegas, there is no place where Elvis played more shows, and his return to the city in 1975 was like a homecoming to both Elvis and the many fans he had there since he started out.

- Welcome Home Elvis 1960: Flaming Star, in collaboration with FTD, publishes a 260 pages book (with bonus CD) about the vital weeks in 1960 where Elvis regained control over his career. The format is the same as the well-known FTD book format (King Creole -The Music and A Moment In Time). The book includes:
- More than 300 photos, many of them previously unpublished,
- text by David English
- CD with the original mono master for "ELVIS IS BACK".
Pictures include Elvis coming home from the army, several press conferences, pictures at Graceland, coverage of the Sinatra TV show and much more.

EIN notes that unlike some of Elvis' later mono singles (See FEIM Legacy Review) this mono album was a simple 'fold-down' from the Stereo tapes, not a specific different mix.

'Promised Land, The Companion Album' Double-Vinyl FTD:
FTD vinyl is pleased to announce the release of "Promised Land – The Companion Album" - A Special Limited Edition 2-disc 180-gram vinyl set. This release follows the other FTD "sessions" albums in not featuring the Masters but only alternate takes.

• Disc 1- alternative version of album featuring Stax outtakes
• Disc 2 – STAX more outtakes!
• Vinyl cutting by ABBEY ROAD STUDIOS
• DMM Copper Mastering
• 180 Grams heavyweight vinyl
• Strictly limited pressing

Tupelo gambles with bigger Elvis Festival budget: The Tupelo Association hopes higher quality of entertainment will draw in bigger crowds to the 2012 Elvis Festival set for May 31-June 3.
For the first time in the history of this festival, three of the past five National Ultimate Elvis Tribute Artists will perform at the Lyric Theatre. Featured artists include Bill Cherry, the 2009 Ultimate ETA, Brandon Bennett, D.J. Fontana, Sonny Burgess and the Pacers and the reigning 2011 Ultimate Elvis Tribute Artist Cody Slaughter.
The Main Street board has approved a budget with proposed income of $167,418 and expenses of $247,622. Jim Goodwin, the immediate past president of the board, says the figure does not include money from Fairpark gate ticket sales or from beer sales.
He says last year walk-up ticket sales were about $60,000 and beer sales were around $15,000.
Goodwin says the talent budget rose from $40,000 to $80,000
this year. The Tupelo Elvis Festival is a musical celebration designed to honor Elvis Presley, Tupelo’s native son, and the impact that his music has on the world.
The 14th annual Tupelo Elvis Festival is on May 31, June 1, 2, and 3.

Wednesday 2 May 2012 ---- 2nd News Update

"I Am An Elvis Fan" new 'Best Of' Elvis CD for 2012: In an interesting but ultimately disappointing twist to put out yet another "Best Of" Elvis compilation just in time for the 35th Anniversary, EPE and Sony Music have announced a chance for Elvis fans to create a compilation Album for a July 31st 'Best Of' CD release.
Fans can select their favourite Elvis songs -BUT ONLY out of a limited list of less than 90 tunes. You can vote for "your" favorite Elvis songs from May 1 through May 12.
EIN notes that with only 91 songs available to choose from (yes, the same old Greatest Hits stuff we all have over and over) the album will contain no nice surprises and therefore be yet another ultimately disappointing "Greatest Hits" release.
If you want to vote for these Classics, 'My Baby Left Me', 'Treat me Nice', 'Such A Night', 'Reconsider Baby', 'Little Sister', 'It Hurts Me', 'I Just Can't Help Believing' or 'I'm Leavin''- well they aren't on the list!

Using social media Facebook, Twitter etc fans can also get involved and even upload their own pictures to be featured on the CD cover as well as an Elvis Presley mosaic print.
As the promotion states "Elvis fans across the globe can link together through social networks, which will offer unique stickers, engaging apps, and new ways for you to declare your loyalty to the king."
By visiting the “I am an Elvis Fan” website (Click Here), you can be part of

the creation of a new CD by voting on the list of SONY's selected Elvis songs May 1 through May 12.
Fans have to pick their Top 3 favorite songs from each of the seven categories:  50s, 60s, Gospel, Love Songs, Movies, Country, In Concert. Then the Top 3 most voted songs from each category will be used to create the I AM AN ELVIS FAN album!  Voting ends at 11:59pm ET May 12, 2012.
EIN notes that the website actually mentions an eigth category of "R&B" - but strangely that category is not actually featured.
The CD, scheduled for release on July 31 by Legacy Recordings, will be titled, “I Am An ELVIS Fan: A Collection of Elvis Songs Chosen by the Fans.”
If you pre-order during the voting period at IAmAnElvisFan.com, your name will appear in a limited-edition version of the CD (while space is available). CLICK HERE.

Norah Jones inspired by Elvis: She has sung 'Are You Lonesome Tonight' in honor of Elvis and now Norah Jones says everyone should visit Elvis Presley's Graceland home at least once in their lives for inspiration.
The 33-year-old musician is a huge fan of the late 'King of Rock 'n' Roll' and going to his mansion in Memphis, Tennessee, and the city itself inspires her songs.
She said: 'I love it in Memphis. It's the most amazing city full of warm people and great food.
'Everybody should visit Elvis' home Graceland once in their lives and while they're at it they should take a trip to the Sun Records museum. It's the record label that launched Elvis, Johnny Cash and Jerry Lee Lewis.'
Norah - the daughter of legendary Indian sitar player Ravi Shankar - is more inspired by artists from the 50s and 60s than modern musicians.
And the 'Happy Pills' singer often dreams of hosting her idols at a dinner party.
She said: 'I'm really inspired by other music and musicians. My fantasy dinner party would include Willie Nelson, Ray Charles and Billie Holiday. They're just some of the people I look up to. I have about 50 musical icons.'
Norah Jones has often refered to her Elvis inspiration playing 'Love Me Tender' and 'Are You Lonesome Tonight' in concert - Click here for her great version.

Priscilla Re-Christens American Queen steamboat: Priscilla Presley smashed a champagne bottle against a steamboat Friday, christening the American Queen as it resumed voyages along the Mississippi River.
“Just floating down the river brings back a lot of nostalgia for the heartland,” said Presley, the former wife of rock ’n’ roll icon Elvis Presley, who lived in Memphis.
The American Queen is the largest steamboat in the world, carrying 436 passengers.
The christening took place just before the boat left its home port of Memphis on a seven-day river cruise to Cincinnati. It is scheduled to take part Wednesday in the Kentucky Derby Festival’s Great Steamboat Race.
Elvis Presley’s Christmas Cruise will take place on the the American Queen from November 30 - December 9, 2012.
Presley thanked the boat’s owners for naming her godmother of the boat. “She’ll be bringing fun to families and friends from all over the world,” she said, adding that the American Queen represents a city her husband loved.

Elvis' granddaughter Riley Keough Rocks Out: It looks like Elvis' granddaughter would be a worthy heir to his rock and roll crown if she ever decided to take up music. For Riley Keough looked stunning as she attended the launch of a new Johnny Ramone's autobiography in Hollywood last night.

The actress looks to have inherited the genes of her handsome grandfather ELVIS as well as from her glamorous Naked Gun star grandmother Priscilla, both aesthetically as well as artistically.
Riley, whose flawless looks helped her net fiance Alex Pettyfer, looked wonderful in a floral green jacket, long blackcurrant shirt and matching top top.
The blonde seemed thrilled to be posing next to her 44-year-old mother, Lisa Marie who went down a more daring route by donning a black leather dress and fishnet tights.
Riley's own star is already on the rise after she starred in the critically praised 2010 film The Runaways.
She starred as alongside Dakota Fanning and Kristen Stewart in the movie, which was a biography of the iconic 70s all-girl rock band.

"Suspicious Minds" Songwriter Mark James Joins Elvis Week 2012: Elvis fans can now experience a blend of storytelling and music with the man who wrote Elvis' hit singles "Suspicious Minds" and "Always on My Mind" among others. Songwriter Mark James will be appearing at the new Elvis Week event, Elvis Songwriters Showcase, on Saturday, August 11, 2012. Mark James is famous for writing hits for Elvis, B.J. Thomas, and Brenda Lee. The Texas native crossed paths with the king after being signed on as a staff writer for Memphis producer Chips Moman's publishing company. James originally recorded "Suspicious Minds" in 1968 but from a lack of commercial success, handed it over to Elvis who made it a #1 single in 1969.
"Suspicious Minds" became one of the most notable Elvis hits and was ranked #91 on Rolling Stone's "500 Greatest Songs of All Time."
Mark James greatest personal success came with another Elvis hit after co-writing "Always on My Mind" with Wayne Carson and Johnny Christopher. James received a Grammy Award for Song of the Year after Willie Nelson's 1982 rendition.
James will be appearing along with Mike Stoller of the songwriting team Leiber
and Stoller, who wrote songs such as “Hound Dog,” “Loving You,” and “Jailhouse Rock.” More songwriters will be announced soon.

Some great Elvis music buys at affordable prices:

EIN note: For some reason in the article below the INFDaily journalist suggests that, a) Lisa Marie was eight when Elvis died. She was of course nine-years old. b) Lisa Marie states that Gladys (her Grandmother) died aged 42, the same age as Elvis died. This is also not correct. Gladys pretended she was younger than she really was but she died aged 46. Surely Lisa Marie would know this! At her wedding in 1933 Gladys stated that she was 19 years old and younger than Vernon who stated he was 22, which was not the truth. She was 21, and Vernon was only 17 and too young to officially marry.
Lisa Marie thought she would die at the same age as her father: Lisa Marie Presley, the only child of rock and roll legend, Elvis Presley, opened up to Elle magazine about how it felt for her to reach the age that her father was when he passed away.
Lisa Marie admits that when she turned 42 two years ago, the realization that her father never made it past his 42nd birthday was worrisome for her. The fear was exacerbated by the fact that her grandmother passed away at the age of 42 as well. (see EIN note above)
“It freaked me out,” she told Elle. She continued, “It was my grandmother as well [who died at] the same age, and I was like, ‘What are my odds here?’”
Presley was only eight years old (see EIN note above) when her father died, and the media attention that she received at that time and continuously thereafter was very difficult for her to deal with. As a young woman she struggled with drug use and other behaviors that were deemed questionable by the media, such as her famous marriage to pop legend, Michael Jackson.
However, now a mother of four children – Riley Keough, 22, Benjamin Keough, 19, Finley Aaron Love Lockwood and Harper Vivienne Ann Lockwood – and married to Michael Lockwood, Presley feels as if her troubled past is far behind her.
While everything may look good on paper for Presley, the singer claims that she still finds it hard to be happy, according to Elle.
“It’s hard for me to be happy because I’m always worried about something going awry, or what could happen to screw up,” she says.
One thing she can check off of her list of worries is not being able to see past her 42nd birthday, like her father and grandmother. Since celebrating her 42nd birthday, when she thinks about the fact that her father wasn’t able to meet his grandchildren and son-in-law, Presley admits to the magazine that she does “get emotional.”

Gladys Presley was born 100 years ago - April 25: Elvis' mother Gladys Love Smith was born on April 25 1912 in Pontotoc County, Mississippi to parents Bob and Doll Smith.
It was in 1933 after a whirlwind romance that Gladys Smith and new boyfriend Vernon Presley eloped and were married on June 17. Vernon was only 17 years-old, while Gladys was 21.
Two years later Elvis and stillborn twin Jesse Garon were born.
Vernon said in an interview...
"At that time there was almost nobody poorer than my wife Gladys and me. But we were thrilled and excited when we learned that we were going to be parents. I was only 18 years old, but throughout Gladys’ pregnancy it never occurred to me that I wouldn't be able to take care of her and the baby.
Gladys and I were so proud of Elvis and enjoyed him so much that we immediately wanted more children. But, for reasons no doctor could understand, we had none. While Elvis grew from infant to toddler to lively little boy, we consulted doctors about our failure to have another child. We prayed about it, too. There was no medical reason why my wife didn’t conceive again, but she didn’t."
(Click HERE for the Vernon Presley Interview in full)
Sadly after a long period struggling with hepatitis at 3.15am, August 14 1958 with Vernon at her side, Gladys Love Presley died at the age of 46.
At her funeral Elvis sobbed, crying out, "Oh God, everything I have is gone. Goodbye, darling, goodbye. I love you so much. You know how much I lived my whole life just for you."

'Elvis In Ottawa' Spotlight & Elvis Interview: Elvis performed in Ottawa, Canada on April 3rd 1957, 55 years ago this month. Janet Fulton was only 13 years-old when she attended Elvis' concert and one of the highlights of her life was not only meeting Elvis but also being kissed by him. Back in November 2011 EIN interviewed Janet Fulton about the experience of meeting Elvis and recently she also provided us with this interesting article on 'Elvis In Ottawa' - 55 years ago this month.
Following the spotlight is Ottawa's radio CKOY Mac Lipson's interview with Elvis on the same day.
"I have never thought I had a good voice. I just enjoy what I'm doing and I put every part of my heart, soul and body into it. But I guess one of the reasons the people have liked it is because it was a little something different" - Elvis Presley, Ottawa 1957.

Elvis Presley duets album Back On?!?: At Friday’s Tisch School of the Art's Gala, music mogul and NYU alum Clive Davis told us that while he hasn’t had a chance to see Tupac’s hologram perform at Coachella, he is "in the midst" of an afterlife-inspired project of his own: an Elvis Presley duets album. Apparently Priscilla Presley brought him the idea and it “struck a responsive chord” with him.
“I immediately thought, My God, to go through his repertoire and not to be a slave to his tracks but to have some freedom to perhaps change some tracks as we see fit. Could Lady Gaga do 'Viva Las Vegas' with Elvis? You know, different ideas. We all have to explore what’s fresh and new, even if it explores the departed.” Maybe Gaga could even perform with Elvis' hologram. “Elvis would be great,” Davis agreed. Though, on second thought, perhaps Elvis should perform with Jo Calderone (Lady Gaga's fictional male alter-ego) and we can see who does Elvis better.
EIN's Brian Quinn has also heard from official sources that after the recent success of the Tony Bennett Duets album, SONY are once again interested in the often-discussed Elvis Duets album.
