"Elvis Comeback Special" Cinema Event US / Canada Tickets On Sale: Fathom Events, ABG and Cineplex Events are thrilled to bring the Elvis '68 Comeback Special to the big screen in celebration of the special's 50th Anniversary for a special cinema event starting on August 16!
See the iconic television special starring singer Elvis Presley, that originally aired on December 3, 1968.
It marked Elvis Presley's return to live performance and re-launched his singing career.
This 50th anniversary event includes the legendary television special, plus an exclusive look at the making of the special, featuring a walkthrough of the NBC soundstage with insights from producer Steve Binder and Priscilla Presley.
Tickets went on sale June 15, 2018 for the theater showings of "Elvis '68 Comeback Special."
The event is scheduled to be 2 hours long.

'Elvis Comeback Special' New Steve Binder Book: Elvis Comeback Special director and producer, Steve Binder has partnered with Spencer and Meteor 17 to publish the definitive table top book on Binder's making of the Special and all activities that led up to, were part of and happened, as a result of the landmark television event.
M17 long time art director, Hugh Syme, designed the stunning look and feel of the 279 page collector's item book which includes commentaries, interviews and never before seen memorabilia presented to Binder by both Elvis and Colonel Tom Parker.
Grammy winning book manufacturing organization, Integrated Communications are handling the printing of the book.
To further propel the book, there will be a highly visible launch at Graceland in Memphis, August 2018 during Elvis week there. Binder will conduct a town hall forum and panel, followed by similar events at The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland and The Paley Center, in both NYC and LA.
Following the book offering, on a special basis to Elvis fan clubs around the world, there will be podcasts about the Special, a one night theater event in over 800 AMC, REGAL & CINEMARK |

A spoken word version of the book via Amazon's Audible division, narrated by Binder will follow.
Spencer and Steve plan to bring the book to life in a documentary, to be directed by John Scheinfeld in 2019. It will center on the making of the Special and Binder's role as director/producer, teaming up with Elvis in a true buddy story that helped inform the course of pop music history. The doc will highlight Steve's interface on the production process with Elvis and NBC to accomplish an evergreen and lauded result.
Binder has the most unique and informed perspective on how this landmark show was made and the events which transpired during production. Elvis bravely stood up and supported Binder in order to have the Special completed and broadcast.
This never before told perspective will be at the heart of our documentary.
Before the Book becomes available to the general public the team will offer the book, DVD of the Special and other never before available items, through Elvis fan clubs around the world followed by a heavily promoted home shopping campaign.

Elvis' gold ring sells for US$44,300 at auction: Elvis Presley's gold lion-head ring, with diamonds for eyes, was sold at UK auction earlier this month for US$44,300.
It was worn by the singer at his home in Graceland in 1972, and was damaged when somebody accidentally trod on it.
Presley's first Las Vegas contract, from 1956, also sold for US$37,000.
They were part of a UK auction of memorabilia at Henry Aldridge and Son in Devizes, Wiltshire. Both were bought by US collectors.
Andrew Aldridge from the auctioneers said,
"The prices achieved reflect the importance of their history with regard to the king of rock and roll."

It was signed by Presley, who initialled "EP" on the rider for the stage show and shows Elvis was paid $7,500 per week for the Las Vegas shows
Elvis was said to have been attracted to the lion ring as it is "the king of the beasts".
A certificate of authenticity, signed by his friend Jimmy Velvet, explained how the 14-carat gold ring was damaged.
It reads: "One night at Graceland, Elvis dropped the ring on the floor and one of his Memphis Mafia members accidentally stepped on it and smashed it.
"The ring was never repaired."

Elvis' Lockheed Jet up for Sale again: The Lockheed jet once owned by Elvis that has sat on a runway in New Mexico for nearly four decades is back on the auction block.
The online auction site IronPlanet announced this week that the plane with red velvet seats had returned the market after its current owner bought it last year for $430,000.
A previous auction house says Elvis designed the interior that has gold-tone woodwork, red velvet seats and red shag carpet. But the red 1962 Lockheed Jetstar has no engine and needs a restoration of its cockpit.
The plane was owned by Elvis and his father, Vernon Presley.

It has been privately owned for 36 years and is still sitting on a tarmac in Roswell, New Mexico.
Photos of the plane also show the exterior in need of restoration and seats of the cockpit torn.
A previous owner disputed an auction house's claim the king of rock 'n' roll designed its red velvet interior.
Roy McKay told KOB-TV that he designed the interior himself. McKay said that when he purchased the jet, it had a two-toned gray interior and "kind of looked like a casket."
But the auction house is confident Elvis designed the interior, which photos show has red velvet seats and red shag carpet.
Federal Aviation Administration records show no interior changes were ever made to the jet, Carter said.
IronPlanet is accepting online bids for the plane until July 27. -

Elvis 'Last Concert' Plaque to be Rededicated: June 26 1977 was the date Elvis said his final "Adios" to his loving concert fans. In memory a special marker in downtown Indianapolis will be honored once again tomorrow, June 26.
Indianapolis-based Flaherty & Collins Properties and the Taking Care of Presley Memorial Benefit Committee will rededicate the Elvis Presley Memorial Plaque, which had been moved for safekeeping during the construction of the 360 Market Square mixed-use development.
The plaque honors Elvis Presley's final concert at Market Square Arena on June 26, 1977. It was originally dedicated at the site of the former arena in 2002 and also includes a time capsule that features various items such as a cassette recording of the final concert.

"Elvis Presley continues to be a significant part of music and our culture, even 40 years since his passing," says Kay Lipps, who co-founded the Taking Care of Presley Memorial Benefit Committee. "I am pleased that the marker is being rededication to commemorate Elvis’ final performance at Market Square Arena and in our city."
Flaherty & Collins developer Vice President Jim Crossin says having the plaque located near the property is exciting because it is "important to honor and acknowledge the history of the site."

Las Vegas 'Neon Museum' Installs Elvis Star: The Las Vegas Neon Museum announces the recent installation of Elvis Presley’s star on its Electric Promenade donor’s walk, which leads from the La Concha visitor’s center to the main Neon Museum Boneyard. The star that was originally part of the Las Vegas Walk of Stars was donated to the Neon Museum by the Viva Las Vegas Elvis Presley Fan Club in 2015.
Created as part of the Las Vegas Walk of Stars in front of the now-demolished Riviera Hotel & Casino, the Elvis star was sponsored by the Viva Las Vegas Club in 2008. The club raised the required $15,000 to fund its induction into the Walk of Stars with donations coming from fans, fan clubs, tribute performers and friends of Elvis from the United States, Europe, Brazil and elsewhere. Installed on Sept. 26, 2008, the star reads: “Elvis Presley – A Legendary Performer, Singer/ Actor/ Humanitarian – Las Vegas.” The star came with official certificates and a plaque, which were given to the Graceland archives in January 2009. The star’s plaque was originally on display inside Graceland’s trophy room.
When the Riviera’s sidewalk portion of the Las Vegas Walk of Stars was dismantled in early 2015, the Viva Las Vegas Club received possession of the Elvis star. |

Since this star was slightly damaged, a new star was created and reinstalled along the Walk of Stars. Members decided to donate the original star to a Las Vegas organization that would preserve its history while giving the public an opportunity to see it. They selected the Neon Museum as an ideal location for the star’s reinstallation, and the museum’s board of directors happily accepted the donation. The museum is also home to several retired signs from the Riviera.
“We are grateful for the Viva Las Vegas Club’s support of the Neon Museum’s mission and vision — to collect, preserve and display Las Vegas’ fabulous history for years to come,” said Brenda Bogue, director of development, Neon Museum. “It’s an honor to be able to celebrate Elvis Presley, a global entertainer who also happens to be a beloved Las Vegas icon, on our Electric Promenade.”
Added Susan Lorenz, president, Viva Las Vegas Club, “The mission of our club is to promote the memory and history of Elvis in the Entertainment Capital of the World. As such, we couldn’t have found a better home for his original Las Vegas Walk of Stars granite marker than among the historic Las Vegas signs at the Neon Museum.”
While Elvis’s star provides the focal point of the Neon Museum’s Electric Promenade, a limited number of commemorative paver stones are also available for public purchase. Funds raised from the sale of paver stones go directly toward the museum’s mission of collecting, preserving, studying and exhibiting the signs in the museum’s collection. Located just outside the museum’s La Concha visitors center, the Electric Promenade is seen by thousands of visitors each year.

As a 7" digipack it should be a fine addition to our collection.

Madonna and her son cover Elvis’ ‘Can’t Help Falling in Love’: Superstar Madonna took to Instagram to share a sweet clip of herself singing at home along to Elvis Presley’s “Can’t Help Falling In Love” with her son David.
Madonna, 59, played guitar along to the much-loved track, while 12-year-old David accompanied her on the piano while singing backing vocals.
Despite the pair stopping and starting a few times social media users took to the comments section to praise the mother and son duet.
Madonna captioned it “Lisbon Living Room Sessions!”
The cover, a fun living-room jam, at the end has Madonna saying she wants to ‘do it again’.
Previously her brother-in-law, singer songwriter Joe Henry has stated that "Madonna felt the spirit of Elvis Presley pass through her when he died"

Priscilla gets 2018 "Most Distinguished Citizen" Award: The AutoZone Liberty Bowl honored Priscilla Presley as its 2018 Most Distinguished Citizen Award Recipient.
In the 60th year, Presley is the first non-sports figure to receive the honor since 2008.
Elvis Presley’s ex-wife is the reason Graceland is open to the public while preserving the King of Rock ‘N’ Roll’s legacy.
“It’s not only us at Graceland, but it’s for the city, and that’s what I’m really most proud of as well. I think we’ve been able to bring commerce in," said Presley. "We’ve been able to economically help out. Those were never in the plans when we opened up Graceland. Obviously, we were there wondering if we were ever gonna make it out."
Attendees got the chance to mingle before the presentation during a live silent auction and cocktail hour.
All the proceeds will go to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital..

Produced by Joel Weinshanker, Lisa Marie Presley and Andy Childs, "Where No One Stands Alone" introduces newly-recorded instrumentation and backing vocal contributions from music legends who'd performed on-stage and/or in-the-studio with Elvis. It also includes a reimagined duet with Elvis and his daughter, Lisa Marie Presley, on the album's title track and spiritual touchstone.

'Lisa Marie' Aircraft gets fresh Coat of Paint: EPE have announced that both of Elvis' air-crafts on display in Memphis are being spruced up for Elvis Week 2018.
With all her financial woes one suspects that Lisa Marie herself might like a shiny spruce-up as well.
Elvis' "Flying Graceland," the Lisa Marie jet, is getting ready for summer - and Elvis Week! - with a fresh coat of paint.
The Lisa Marie and Elvis' smaller Lockheed Jetstar, the Hound Dog II, are in the process now of being repainted. The paint job will be completed soon.
Elvis purchased the 1958 Convair 880 in April 1975 and named it Lisa Marie after his daughter. He spent more than $800,000 having the jet remodeled. The customized jet features a living room, conference room, sitting room, and private bedroom, as well as gold-plated seat belts, suede chairs, leather covered tables, 24-karat gold-flecked sinks and more.

The Lockheed Jet Star, customized by Elvis with a yellow and green interior, was primarily used for taking Elvis' manager and his staff from city to city during his concert tours.
Both planes are on permanent display at Graceland.

Lisa Marie claims she is Broke (again): In the on-going court cases with both her former business manager, as well as her ex husband Michael Lockwood, Lisa Marie is again claiming her former business manager squandered her entire share of Elvis‘ $100 million fortune partly due to bad investment in 'American Idol'.
With the Lockwood case, Lisa Marie previously claimed she was $16 million in debt, $10 million of which was back taxes alone.
Perhaps the new Elvis Gospel album of which she is co-producer will help alleviate her financial woes
In new court documents Lisa Marie alleges that Barry Siegel assured her that her finances were in “good shape” while he whittled her $100 million trust down to just $14,000 in poor investments, including a hefty investment in the “American Idol” holding company, which went bankrupt after the show’s initial run ended in April 2016.
In her filing, Presley alleges that Siegel and Provident Financial Management billed her $4.9 million to manage her $100 million trust, amounting to a salary of just over $700,000 per year for Siegel.
“Had Siegel disclosed the trust’s true financial condition to Presley and restricted spending to the trust’s ‘income’ rather than its principal assets, Presley would have lived comfortably on an annual budget of between $1.5 and $2 million per year, after taxes,” the documents claim. |

She accuses Siegel of liquidating the trust’s assets after the “Idol” investment failed to generate income in order to accommodate her lifestyle, alleging that he recommended she spend twice her annual post-tax income. That spending reportedly includes a $9 million estate in England with a balloon payment of $6.5 million in 2015 that the trust didn’t cover. She also claims that mortgages on her Hidden Hills, CA and Hawaii homes were worth more than the properties themselves by 2010.
Siegel and Provident Financial Management scoffed at Presley’s allegations, claiming in a countersuit that her money problems are simply due to her own exorbitant spending.
They are seeking $800,000 in damages and argued that because Lisa Marie is going through a difficult time with her divorce from fourth husband Michael Lockwood, she’s pinning her troubles on them.
Michael Lockwood has demanded $40,000 in spousal support from Lisa Marie but a judge ruled that while she doesn’t yet need to shell out monthly spousal support to the unemployed musician, she would have to pay $50,000 to his attorney towards his court fees.

DJ Fontana Obituary and Interview: D.J. Fontana was born in Shreveport Louisiana on March 15 1931 and originally began backing Elvis Presley, Bill Black and Scotty Moore when he worked at the Louisiana Hayride as early as 1954.
By his early 20s he performed at strip joints and spent enough time around the “Hayride” that he was hired full time.
Sun Records Sam Phillips originally assembled Elvis' Blue Moon Boys without a drummer and so it wasn't until the key RCA session of January 10 1956 that DJ Fontana joined the band on studio recordings.
That session produced 'Heartbreak Hotel' and the music world would never be the same.
EIN presents a spotlight on DJ Fontana along with a new interview “I Tell You What, He Loved Gospel Music” by EIN contributor Thomas Melin.
While DJ Fontana created some of the greatest rock'n'roll drumming ever cut on wax he always stated that he liked to "keep things simple" in a way that complemented not just Elvis, but also his other band-mates.

D.J. Fontana Has Died aged 87: EIN has terrible news as DJ Fontana, Elvis' legendary drummer, has died aged 87.
The last of the 'Blue Moon Boys' has now left to join his fellow musicians - the creators of the Rock'n'Roll big-bang.
Dominic Joseph Fontana passed away in his sleep last night.
His son David Fontana, wrote: “My dad passed away in his sleep at 9:33 tonight June 13. He was very comfortable with no pain. We ask for privacy at this time. Thank you for your love and prayers.”

Fontana played on over 400 of Elvis RCA recordings as well as appearing in several films.
Lead guitarist Scotty Moore sadly passed away back in 2016.
Original bassist Bill Black died back in 1965 and never played with Elvis' band again following the 1958 break-up.
DJ Fontana was instrumental in Elvis career revival of the 1968 'Comeback Special' although it would be the last time he performed with Elvis.
Of the NBC TV Special Fontana said, "We had a lot of fun doing it. Elvis looked great . . . he was real nervous, but once he started it was like he'd never been away."
"Elvis was just a nice guy, even though he was so young. He always treated people like he wanted to be treated. You know, we worked hard. We just tried to cut good records. But we knew that if it wasn't for Elvis, we wouldn't have done anything."

D.J Fontana Interview: D.J Fontana was Elvis' drummer from 1955 to 1969. Elvis first met Fontana when he appeared at the 'Louisiana Hayride' on October 16, 1954. In fact Fontana became the first person to play drums on the 'Louisiana Hayride' doing so behind a curtain since percussion accompaniment to "real" Country Music was still frowned upon. After joining Elvis' band Fontana played drums on around fifty Elvis recording sessions between 1956 and 1968. After 1969 Fontana became a session musician in Nashville. Fontana also appeared in several Elvis movies such as Loving You and Jailhouse Rock.
Earlier this year D.J. Fontana was still on the road performing in Crowley, Louisiana where he talked about his time with The King.
And in 1998 DJ Fontana was interviewed by EIN contributor Arjan Deelen.

'Elvis Presley: The Searcher' October DVD release: As we all hoped the HBO documentary 'Elvis Presley: The Searcher' will be getting a DVD release by SONY Pictures on 16th October 2018.
(How odd that it is not during Elvis Week).
The DVD is noted as being a "Collectors Edition" so hopefully it will contain lots of extras that fans have been waiting for.
"Elvis and Elvis's music pointed to black culture and said, 'This is filled with the force of life,'" noted Bruce Springsteen, "If you want to be an American, this is something you need to pay attention to."
The documentary seizes on moments, rehearsals, outtakes, when Presley's grit and fervor blasted away corniness and shtick. It shows him touching down in gospel music at his bleakest times and, near the end, strains to present him as a spiritual figure. Its finale is from that 1968 TV special: his
wrenching performance of "If I Can Dream," longing for equality and redemption during a year of social turmoil. It shows Presley's passion and control, his visceral drama, his mastery.
The price and content have not yet been confirmed.

Habler tells EIN that he has now finished the first draft of his manuscript and has a special early pre-order offer for fans.

Elvis’ first Las Vegas contract for Auction: Described as “an exceptionally iconic piece of Las Vegas and music history,” Elvis’ first Las Vegas contract with William Morris Agency contract is signed by Elvis in two places and is up for auction June 16.
The contract covers Presley’s two-week engagement at the New Frontier Hotel in Vegas during late April and early May 1956.
The shows came at the start of Presley’s career and his performances in front of an audience of largely middle-aged men did not generate the level of hysteria associated with his later shows.

“This was still the early part of 1956 and Presley was on the verge of greatness, up until now Elvis had performed in front of screaming teenagers but things would be different in Las Vegas,” explained the auction house,
“Compared to the usual teenage hysteria, however, Elvis had a lukewarm acceptance from the middle-aged audience.”
A number of teenagers, however, did get to see and meet Presley in a special matinee performance on Saturday April 28, which was described as a resounding success.
Presley was paid $7,500 per week for his engagement at the New Frontier Hotel. When he returned to perform in the city 13 years later in 1969, he was a global superstar.
The contract, which has an Elvis Presley Museum COA has a pre-sale estimate of $33,476 to $40,171.

"Love Coming Down" has been extended but there are no repeatable parts.
"Danny Boy" has been spliced with the live version, and America starts and ends with short studio parts, filled with a live version, also recorded in Memphis!

Now in 2018 the 'Wonder Of You' Video-Screen returns to Europe for another tour.
In this EIN exclusive Arjan Deelen describes "Moments Of Promise, Moments Of Frustration" as the EPE tour keeps trying to make an impact but without any genuine Elvis musician connection.
The 2016 reviews suggested that it was "So realistic fans felt Elvis really was in the building!" yet recently some Elvis fans came away disappointed especially when compared to previous "TCB Band" events.

Elvis Author Jerry Hopkins Dead at 82: Jerry Hopkins, well-known Rolling Stone journalist, who published 1971's 'Elvis: A Biography' and later 'Elvis: The Final Years' (1981) and more then thirty other books died in Bangkok, Thailand on June 3rd after a long illness. He was 82.
Hopkins is also known for his Jimm Morrison / Doors biography 'No One Here Gets Out Alive' which topped the New York Times bestseller chart and was credited by many with helping kick-start The Doors' revival and was used as the basis for Oliver Stone's 1991 movie.
"It's sad to say goodbye," says Rolling Stone founder Jann Wenner. "Jerry was from the founding generation of Rolling Stone. He was a good friend."
In the aftermath of the 'No One Here Gets Out Alive' success Hopkins turned his attention nearly full-time to books, writing nearly 40 biographies on everyone from David Bowie to Jimi Hendrix to Don Ho.
Hopkins lived in Hawaii for a period and also published 'Elvis In Hawaii' in 2002 (review here).
While Hopkin's original Elvis biography is often regarded as one of the very best books about Elvis (there is some great research in it and Hopkins has a very nice writing style) EIN was a little upset by the 2007 updated re-release which was still full of factual errors that had been discredited years before. |

.. Sadly we've now past the major deaths of Scotty Moore & Joe Esposito... Charlie Hodge several yrs ago.. as well as Sam Phillips, etc etc.
And so now Jerry Hopkins - the first author of Elvis' life is himself gone now too.
In 1970 inaccuracies in his "Elvis: A Biography" would be forgivable since Elvis was still living & so much was kept secret back then plus it was his personal life. In the years since Elvis' death, it's gradually become less personally relevant to the family & friends & more strictly a matter of historic record. Further, information is obviously far more easily obtained nowdays - especially for a serious author.
So yes, all the inacurracies in the 1970 book are easily forgiven. Hopkins is entitled to his rightful honored spot in Elvis history due to being the first & only serious biographer of Elvis prior to 1977- so that makes his book a serious collectable. Actually i find it fascinating to flip thru the book realizing that Elvis surely saw all of that for himself!

'Elvis: The Searcher' Part2 on Australian TV tonight: Music is the primary focus in 'Elvis Presley: The Searcher'. It follows the evolution of Elvis’s sound from mixing up gospel, blues and country in the '50s through to the movie musicals and Vegas crooning in the '60s. And while the question of whether Elvis was a cultural appropriator of black music or merely its champion/messenger may have been settled in the minds of many, the doco goes to great lengths to show us that neither are really true.
'Elvis: The Searcher' Part 2 is on Australian TV tonight on SBS TV.
Tom Petty noted, "Elvis was a light for all of us. We all owe him for going first into battle. He had no road map, and he forged a path of what to do and what not to do. We shouldn’t make the mistake of writing off a great artist by all the clatter that came later. We should dwell in what he did that was so beautiful and everlasting. Which was that great, great music.”
Of course, Elvis’s legacy isn’t just as a creator of great music. He’s “The King of Rock and Roll”. He single-handedly took popular culture into a new and exciting direction, leading John Lennon to famously say, “Before Elvis, there was nothing.”

But there was actually quite a bit before Elvis.
And while the issue of whether he explicitly “stole” anything may not be as fiery a topic.. it’s an important part of how we appreciate Elvis’ significance.
In the early '50s, black performers like Little Richard, Joe Turner, Ike Turner, Ray Charles, Ruth Brown and Fats Domino were already making "R&B" / rock'n'roll, some white performers were too. 1951’s “Rocket 88” by Ike Turner (on 'Elvis The Searcher' Deluxe set) is now more widely considered the first rock and roll song than “That’s All Right”, which is a cover of an Arthur “Big Boy” Crudup song.
But in pre-Civil Rights America, when black artists were marginalised as creators of what was called “race music” and largely ignored by the white mainstream audience, who were more interested in balladeers like Tony Martin and Johnnie Ray. At least, they pretended to be. There’s evidence that white audiences listened to black music |

privately, even though it wasn’t socially acceptable to do so publicly.
Elvis helped change that.
And Elvis seemed to only have glowing praise for his contemporaries, giving credit where credit was due.
Elvis stated, "The coloured folks been singing it and playing it just like I'm doing now, man, for more years than I know. I got it from them. Down in Tupelo, Mississippi, I used to hear old Arthur Crudup bang his box the way I do now, and I said if I ever got to the place where I could feel all old Arthur felt, I'd be a music man like nobody ever saw."

Elvis '68 Comeback Special' in US Cinemas This August: Elvis Presley's legendary television special Elvis, better known as the "'68 Comeback Special," will be screened in US movie theaters this summer to mark the 50th anniversary of its airing. The screenings will take place on Presley's death, August 16th, and again on August 20th.
Clad in black leather and backed by his original sideman, the King reclaimed his crown with one of the greatest performances of all time
EPE / ABG is arranging the screening with Fathom Events. They have yet to announce the screening times.
"Seeing Elvis onscreen is one of the most memorable and influential brand experiences and we look forward to bringing this special and future events to audiences around the world," ABG's senior vice president, Marc Rosen, said in a statement.
"ABG is recognized as a global leader in the brand space and aligns perfectly with Fathom's dedication to providing our audiences with exclusive memorable cinema events," Fathom Events CEO Ray Nutt said.
Presley's comeback special came at a time when the King had been appearing in movies rather than performing live. It opened with footage of him dressed in a slick, black leather jumpsuit – curling his lip the way his fans remembered–and included a loose, "sit-down" set where he played his early hits with members from his backing band in the Fifties.
"Elvis was hardly ever nervous – but he was then," drummer D.J. Fontana noted, "We played a couple of songs, and it got loose after a while, and it turned out fine. He just had been out of the public eye for a long time."

'Stay Tuned: Rock on TV' at Rock & Roll Hall of Fame: Since exploding onto the scene in the post-war 40s, television and rock & roll have reflected social values, shaped the youth culture and created icons.
In its early days, they sat at opposite ends of the table, with tv showcasing the normalcy of nuclear family and strong moral lessons, while rock & roll questioned the establishment with a rebellious attitude. But as television sets became a household fixture, advertisers sought to reach the booming youth and teenage demographic and their expendable pocket money, cracking the door for rock & roll’s acceptance into the mainstream through shows like American Bandstand, The Ed Sullivan Show, and The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet.

A replica of the check is part of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame's new exhibit which opened to the public last week. It's just one of more than a hundred artifacts that take up the top three floors of the museum.
Elvis' blue chair from "Singer Presents Elvis" is also there.
Step off the escalator on the fourth floor, and you're confronted by a massive replica of an old-style television - one with 13 channels on the main dial and a VHF knob for those local stations we all loved.
Step around the corner, and Herman has found the original "American Bandstand'' logo, the one that hung from Dick Clark's studio for all those years as he welcomed the people who eventually would be enshrined in the Rock Hall.

There's a stage-door sign for Sullivan's show, plus the tiny Rickenbacker guitar John Lennon played on the Beatles' debut on "Sullivan."
There is fascination in the the contracts, like Presley's $400 signup to return to the Sullivan show, or the $155 Little Richard got to appear on American Bandstand in 1965. And James Brown's contract that called for him to be paid $210 for an appearance, but $250 for his wardrobe.
The wealth of artifacts will be on view for about a year - and then it will become a traveling show.

‘Queen of the groupies’ Missed Out!: ‘Queen of the groupies’ Pamela Des Barres says that she has bedded some of the biggest names in the music business, including Mick Jagger and Keith Moon and loved Led Zeppelin guitarist Jimmy Page but missed out on Elvis supposedly because it was too dangerous!
Promoting her book's reprint Pamela Des Barres now 69 noted, "I’ll never forget that night at the Elvis concert — or the hours spent with Jimmy afterwards on a huge bed up on a pedestal.”
Des Barres said the now 74-year-old British musician happily took “Miss Pamela” on tour with him.
“One time I was on the side of the stage as Jimmy entranced 80,000 fans with his guitar playing. From my vantage point, sitting on Jimmy’s amp, I almost felt like one of the group.
Girls in the audience looked up at me and wondered which one I was sleeping with, and I was so proud. I was exactly who I’d aspired to be — the girlfriend of the lead guitar player in the world’s biggest rock and roll band.”
Des Barres exposed all her shocking escapades 31 years ago in her 1987 memoir, I’m With the Band.
She had a more lighthearted encounter with Jimi Hendrix. She appeared in a short film dancing for his band.
“Hendrix hit on me and it’s impossible to describe his charisma, it was huge. I didn’t sleep with him though — I was only 17 and way too young.”
But she didn’t think twice when it came to Doors front man Jim Morrison.

“I remember thinking, ‘This is the most beautiful man I have ever seen. He was so gorgeous, everything about him was just perfect.”
Des Barres married musician Michael Des Barres in 1973. They had a son named Nicholas in 1978. However, the couple divorced in 1991.
These days, Des Barres is looking to make her own film focusing on her fling with Jagger.
And there was also that opportunity with ELVIS. Except it is a NON-Story!
She states, “I could have met Elvis and spent time with him. I declined that because I had gotten engaged to the man I married. I thought I shouldn’t get caught up with Elvis.”
EIN notes that she married in 1973 so actually went out with Jimmy Page after that - so that is no excuse that she failed to get involved with Elvis!
Yet again ELVIS' legacy is so big that he becomes a feature of a "non-story" to promote a book.

Australian RCM Touring Liquidated: The company behind the recent Elvis / Orchestra and Priscilla tours is being liquidated.
RCM Touring has denied owing over $120,000 to a fellow touring company, after an application to have the organisation liquidated was filed in the Federal Court Of Australia.
Big Deal Touring has accused RCM, operated by talent agent Ralph Carr, of failing to pay thousands of dollars in invoices, totalling $120,300, for work involved in a number of tours which took place in 2017, including Roy Orbison’s Australian hologram tour, which was cancelled last month.
RCM Touring’s solicitors state there is no substance to Big Deal’s claim.

the costs of appearing to fight this in Sydney on 1 June 2018. All our attempts to settle this matter on a commercial basis were rejected out of hand.

Bob Dylan and Elvis: May 24 was Bob Dylan's 77th birthday. The Shelia Variations website posted a cute article about these two great musicians.
Bob Dylan has stated that, “When I first heard Elvis Presley’s voice I just knew that I wasn’t going to work for anybody and nobody was going to be my boss. Hearing him for the first time was like busting out of jail.”
and “The highlight of my career? That’s easy, Elvis recording one of my songs.”
Elvis recorded Dylan’s song “Tomorrow is a Long Time” in 1966. Dylan had written it, and recorded a demo of it in the early 60s. He played it in his concerts, and others started recording it. Elvis heard it through Odetta's recording - as featured on the new Elvis: The Searcher Deluxe set (click here for review)
Elvis’ cover was buried on the soundtrack album for the movie Spinout, and it didn’t make a splash of any kind at the time but recently was part of the thread used within The Seracher documentary.

kick-arounds in the 70s, “Don’t Think Twice,” and “I Shall Be Released” – and he liked “Blowin in the Wind”, and would sing it around the piano with his buddies, even though it seems like Elvis and Dylan would have had nothing in common, especially socially/politically.
But “Tomorrow is Such a Long Time” is the best of all of these. It’s haunting, eerie, with Chip Young providing an understated lead guitar. Dylan officially released the song in 1971, I believe, after a decade of performing it live, and a decade where everyone and their grandmother had recorded it. It was one of those songs.
Dylan's “Nobody was going to be my boss” is one of my favorite comments from a fellow musician on the impact Elvis had. There’s also this from Keith Richards’ great memoir.
"But (Elvis was) the one that really turned me on, like an explosion one night, listening to Radio Luxembourg on my little radio when I was supposed to be in bed and asleep, was “Heartbreak Hotel”. That was the stunner. I’d never heard it before, or anything like it. I’d never heard of Elvis before. It was almost as if I’d been waiting for it to happen."

'The King' Elvis Themed Doco Opens in June: Fans should realise that this new doco/film is not about ELVIS (even if his image is in the poster) but rather using Elvis' life and legacy as a exploration of where the US is now.
Filmmaker Eugene Jarecki road trips across the United States in Elvis Presley's 1963 Rolls-Royce, examining the musician's complicated legacy for the new documentary, The King.
In the film, Jarecki traces Elvis' rise and fall, using the rock pioneer's career as a metaphor for America. The new trailer teases the rosy-eyed view of Elvis with fans lining up to admire his Rolls and singing his classic songs. But it also uses the most problematic aspects of Elvis' music and career – including his drug use and thorny relationship with race and cultural appropriation – to explore larger American ills.

Big ELVIS bids at Auction: Julien’s Auctions made history May 19 with the record-breaking sale of Elvis Presley’s “Thunderbird” ensemble belt, a heavily embellished white leather belt worn in a 1972 performance in Hawaii, gifted to actor and friend Jack Lord as it sold for an astounding US$354,400 (estimate $40,000). It is the top-selling belt sold at auction worn by “The King,” achieving a price normally reserved for his jumpsuits. (see below)
The star-shaped diamond ring that Elvis Presley gave to a female fan at a 1975 concert sold for US$120,000.
Donna Lewis was 20 when the King handed her the sparkler – in white gold and featuring 50 stones.
Julien’s Auctions sold over $6 million total in the Music Icons sale, including Property from the Life of Prince.
One of the highly anticipated items a 1965 Fender Telecaster owned by The Band’s Robbie Robertson sold for $490,000. The auction event sold over 600 lots and was held live at Hard Rock Cafe New York.
The historic guitar was played by Bob Dylan on his Going Electric 1966 tour, in addition to Robbie Robertson, Eric Clapton, Levon Helm and George Harrison and numerous notable recordings and performances from Dylan’s Leopard-Skin Pill-Box Hat to The Band’s legendary set at Woodstock.

Another top-selling guitar was George Harrison’s first electric guitar, a Hofner Club 40, sold for an astounding $430,000. Harrison played it in the early day when The Beatles performed as The Quarrymen. It is considered one of the most historically important guitars as it marks the chapter in music history.

Lisa Marie at Elvis Week Update: Fans who making plans for Elvis Week specially to see Lisa Marie being interviewed need to note that she has changed her itinerary and will now be on August 11.
EPE states, Due to a schedule change, Lisa Marie Presley's appearance at Elvis Week 2018 has been moved from August 15 to a special appearance and interview for the launch of a new project to be announced soon.
Lisa Marie event will now be held on Saturday, August 11, at 1:00 p.m. at the Graceland Soundstage.
EPE notes that more details on this project will be released in the upcoming weeks.
Tickets for the Lisa Marie special appearance and interview event are $30 and on sale now.

UPDATED - COME ON FTD! Let's Speed Things Up A Little!: EIN has very strongly supported the FTD label from the start even though their quality control has slipped at times.
Recently this seems to have got worse, perhaps due to the producers Ernst Jorgensen and Roger Semon's extra work with mainstream SONY releases.
The last couple of FTD live soundboards have notably run slow dragging down the pace of Elvis' performance. This has also been an issue on some previous concert releases.
On ELVIS LAS VEGAS '74' FTD the dates were wrong with the two shows reversed from what the cover indicated.
Do FTD collectors deserve better or should we be happy to have anything released with faults and all?

- 'ELVIS: OFF - ON STAGE' single CD 7" digipack.
This 1CD set features Elvis in great form from his legendary shows in February 1970 at the International Hotel, Las Vegas.
The album is a compilation of tracks from various performances. Twelve tracks are unreleased performances while 4 are newly remixed tracks.
On a positive note Bob Lanning Elvis' drummer at the shows and author /concert producer Arjan Deelen were both involved with FTD on this collection.
As a 7" digipack it should be a fine addition to our collection.

Elvis Week 2018 Tickets on Sale Now: Elvis Week 2019 runs from August 9-18, ten days celebrating the Music, Life and Legacy of Elvis Presley.
Among the very special guests will be Lisa Marie Presley, who will appear on stage at the Graceland Soundstage on August 15; Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Legend and Elvis' '68 Comeback Special performer Darlene Love live in concert, making her first-ever Elvis Week appearance; Gospel and Soul legend and former Elvis back-up singer Dr. Emily "Cissy" Houston, also making her first Elvis Week appearance; Elvis' acclaimed drummer from the TCB Band, Ronnie Tutt; and many more.

'The EPE Catalog' Book Review: Bob Pakes' 'The EPE Catalog' presents an A-Z guide, 390 packed pages, with over 1,450 images on every weird and wonderful product that was part of the immensely successful 1956 Elvis Presley merchandise train.
The book contains an unbelievable number of photographs and documents showing how much product EPE tried to flog to the fans.
Anyone want an Elvis Presley hot-plate or some mittens!?
The book is an incredible compendium of how teenage America went crazy for Elvis Presley and the clever exploitation of their teenage cravings by one Col Parker via Hank Saperstein.
Incredibly around 80 different Elvis licensed products in all different colours and sizes were rushed out over this amazingly short period. Elvis Badges/ Buttons including everything from ‘I Like Elvis’ to ‘I Hate Elvis’ buttons, and featured over 18 pages of the book, is just one of those 80 products! It is an intense and fascinating story.
Teenagers in the 1950s were the first generation to really have any spending money and Tom Parker wanted to grab his share!

MRS ‘Complete 50s Film & Soundtrack Sessions digital erratum! Author Gordon Minto who wrote the very detailed text for the new MRS release ‘Complete 50s Film & Soundtrack Sessions' would like to point out an editing mistake that made in through to the final manuscript.
Minto would like to acknowledge the simple error before the 'Elvis Fun Police' want him castigated.
On page 54 the sentence is inadvertently printed as "Love Me Tender after earning millions ...ironically was the only film Elvis made for 20th Century Fox."
The sentence was of course meant to have said "Love Me Tender after earning millions ...ironically was the only film Elvis made for 20th Century Fox in the fifties".
Two pages later Minto actually notes in the bok that Elvis did make two more films for 20th Century Fox.
Minto tells EIN "I have never shied away from admitting my mistakes which is why I wanted to get it out there as soon as the book is officially released. It would be a sort of digital erratum!"

(New book) Spirit of the '60s: A Film and Television Photo Album: Elvis, Batman, Doctor Who, Gerry Anderson, Irwin Allen (a fun 4 fans history): In 2014-15 EIN had the pleasure of interviewing pop culture and prolific author Jon Abbott and reviewing his excellent book, The Elvis Films. Jon has a new book release featuring a chapter on Elvis that will be of interest to many fans. Jon told EIN:
"I thought I would drop a quick line to notify you about a new publication of mine that includes a nod to Elvis.
It is different from my usual text-heavy books in that it is primarily a photo album, in colour, around 140 pages, with the theme of 1960s film and TV. Basically I was looking for a way to use some wonderful Batman and Doctor Who pics that came my way and I needed a general theme that justified the use of the pictures for their intended purpose (promotion), so I put together this book titled Spirit of the ’60s that features specific chapters (including Elvis, Gerry Anderson, and Irwin Allen) that make up a visual history to hopefully encourage further investigation by the young and a nudge to re-watch for the nostalgic.

'The Searcher' Separates the Trailblazer From His Tragedy: The New York Times has published a substantial and very positive review of the new HBO documentary.
It includes..
... There are no fried peanut butter and banana sandwiches. Nor is there a television with a bullet hole in its screen. Drugs, an unavoidable topic, are mentioned in sympathetic tones as an overworked performer's self-medication.
"Elvis Presley: The Searcher" strives to rescue the Elvis Presley story from its tabloid side. Instead, it presents a biography of an artist and musician who was both spectacularly gifted and unconscionably misdirected. Guided by his own ideas and instincts, he transformed 20th-century culture in the 1950s. But afterward, treated by his manager as a commercial workhorse, he spent years making trivial movies and performing as a nostalgia act.
The documentary presents Presley's relationship to African-American music as one of affinity and appreciation, not exploitation. "Elvis and Elvis's music pointed to black culture and said, 'This is filled with the force of life,'" Mr. Springsteen comments. "If you want to be an American, this is something you need to pay attention to." The excerpt chosen from "King Creole," the 1958 Presley film set in New Orleans, shows Presley listening to and then joining African-American street vendors' cries, acknowledging their influence.
"He did not invent rock 'n' roll per se," Tom Petty bluntly notes, citing Little Richard and Joe Turner. "What he did was different" a fusion of all Presley had absorbed. He was not a copyist. The film and boxed set include enough of Presley's sources to demonstrate how thoroughly he personalized songs like Arthur Crudup's "That's All Right" and Bill Monroe's "Blue Moon of Kentucky": the two sides, drawn from (black) blues and (white)

bluegrass, of his first single for Sun Records. In retrospect, it was a perfect, archetypal mission statement of how he would defy categories.
(After the army) the rock revolutionary, under Parker's management, was supposed to fall into line as an entertainer. Sadly, he did.
There was no other career map at the time, and the Colonel did not encourage artistic exploration. Through the eventful mid-1960s Elvis was contractually bound to make movies with lame songs and diminishing returns. One of the documentary's most bitterly telling finds is an audio interview with a defeated-sounding Presley, where he says that while he'd like to make "artistic" films, "if what you're doing is doing O.K., you're better off sticking with it."
The documentary seizes on moments, rehearsals, outtakes, when Presley's grit and fervor blasted away corniness and shtick. It shows him touching down in gospel music at his bleakest times and, near the end, strains to present him as a spiritual figure. Its finale is from that 1968 TV special: his |

‘Bicycle Rider: Thoughts on The Searcher’: One of EIN’s most insightful contributors George Smith has written a stunning essay on the new HBO documentary ‘Elvis Presley: The Searcher’.
In his review ‘George Smith’ captures the essence of the narrative, Zimny’s production decisions and notes the difficulty of having to create a documentary about Elvis’ music and having to keep it under 4 hours.
His review includes,
“The genius of the documentary though, is in its decision to present Elvis Presley to all viewers in a new and unexpected fashion. For the devotees this is realised through the constant use of new film (professional and amateur) and studio outtakes: it keeps the faithful on their toes and creates the impression of seeing and hearing Elvis anew. This is why Zimny insisted on using the alternative Aloha, the handheld “Trilogy” and “Never Been to Spain”, the “Burning Love” rehearsal, the “If I Can Dream” outtake, the off-air segments from ’68, the non-masters of “Lonely Man”, “Hurt”, “Suspicious Minds”, “Loving You”.. It is a deliberate and clever approach which was much appreciated by this writer.”

'Elvis: Murfreesboro '74'' FTD In-Depth Review: March 1974 was Elvis' ninth tour of the US and included twenty-five performances in under 3 weeks. Freed from the constraints of the Las Vegas Hilton casino crowd, Elvis was in fine form and putting on great shows. The new FTD double-CD features Elvis' two Murfreesboro shows March 14 and March 19 (the penultimate concert before 'Live In Memphis') from this 1974 tour.
FTD have already released four concerts from this tour, the Tulsa March 1 Opening Show, the Memphis March 17 Evening show, the Richmond March 18 concert plus the RCA recorded 'Live In Memphis' March 20 Closing Night.
So do we really need yet another two 1974 soundboards from this March tour? Well, well, well.. the answer is a definite YES!

'Strictly Elvis Vol.2 1976-77' New Book: Erik Lorentzen has announced that he is working on the second Keith Alverson STRICTLY ELVIS book and that it's a real pleasure to work with all this fantastic photos by Keith Alverson.
It will contain more than 1.200 photos from 1976 - 1977 and more than 1,000 has never been published or even seen before.

'Elvis: The Bicentennial Show' 1976' FTD In-Depth Review: 1976 is not an easy Elvis live-in-concert year to review. There were no major set-list changes, no dramatic "emotional roller-coaster" of 1974 and no high-flying "Huntsville" 1975 excitements. Apart from the exceptional blast of the final December 1976 Tour the year was the inevitable downward spiral.
However there were some highlights along the way and Elvis collectors have always been keen to hear Elvis' July 4th 1976 Bicentennial performance, as well as RCA's Joan Deary's initial choice for the 1980 box-set of Duluth, October 16, 1976.

'ELVIS ON TOUR - 45th Anniversary Deluxe Edition' IN-Depth Review: Amiga International's long awaited LIMITED-EDITION boxset featuring 9-CD’s, all remastered, of all known recordings made for the Golden Globe Award-winning concert documentary ELVIS ON TOUR is OUT NOW. It includes the premiere of the complete rehearsal recorded in Buffalo, NY on April 5, 1972, with three previously unreleased performances.
The 13-inch boxset also includes a huge 128-page hardcover book containing detailed essays of the entire April 1972 tour with RARE AND UNPUBLISHED photographs and related memorabilia.

FTD will NOT end in 2019: A fair number of uninformed supposed Elvis "insiders" (even some Fan Club Presidents) have been publishing fictional stories that the FTD label is planning to close in 2019.
Ernst Jorgensen had strongly denied this story stating, that FTD has plans to continue for the foreseeable future.
In an interesting interview about 'The Future of FTD' - with Trevor Cajiao in the recent ETM&HM magazine - Ernst Jorgensen's main points were....
1. FTD will not be closing in 2019
2. The 'Classic Albums" series is nearly complete but there are more to come, noting 'Aloha' and 'Madison Square Garden' are still to be done.
3. Expanded "complete session tapes" releases are being considered
4. Plenty more soundboards to come

UPDATED - Trying To Get To You: The Truth Behind The Elvis And Roy Orbison Show Rumours: For decades there has always been an unsubstantiated rumour that Elvis Presley appeared as a guest on Roy Orbison's TV show on the local station KOSA.
The Roy Orbison website notes that both Johnny Cash and Elvis Presley performed on Roy’s TV show in late 1955.
Respected author Colin Escott wrote in his book Good Rockin’ Tonight about a kinescope of Elvis on the Roy Orbison TV show actually existing.
Some keen Elvis fans have said that they have seen this very kinescope at Elvis Week shows back in the 80s.
But like infamous Pied Piper of Cleveland does this footage really exist and is there any real proof that Elvis did appear on the Roy Orbison TV show?

"The Wonder Of You" 2018 Australia Tour changes: The "Back By Popular Demand" 2018 'Wonder Of You' Australian tour has been majorly altered by the local producers RCM Touring. They are no longer in April 2018 as planned and the locally-anticipated show in the new venue of Newcastle, NSW has been cancelled completely.
Now there are only the two shows in Sydney and Melbourne and the dates have been moved to August 2018, presumably to help link up with the excitement of Elvis Week.
Elvis will beam down from 'state of the art' video screens to give fans the closest possible experience to seeing The King "ELVIS" perform live.

Caveat Emptor (Buyer Beware) - Exposing the Amazon Elvis Book Rip-Off?: From RCA to Sony Elvis' back catalog has long been exploited at the expense of his legacy. The same thing is now happening regarding Elvis book releases!
Through clever marketing, including the use of different (but suspicious) author names and different book titles for releases which are essentially identical; short and long book editions; and coupling the Elvis story with that of other celebrities, a glut of Elvis related book titles (with repetitive text) only available from Amazon are blatantly misleading fans.

‘ELVIS: Studio Sessions 1956' In-Depth Review: MRS newest release, a massive 3CD/172 page book compilation "Elvis Studio Sessions ‘56 The Complete Recordings". The 172-page book, with text by Gordon Minto, focuses on each of Elvis’ studio recording sessions during his first year of national stardom - from the first one in January, held in Nashville, then later in New York, before finishing his final session of the year in Hollywood in September. 'Roustabout' FTD Soundtrack Review: Roustabout was Elvis' 16th movie, it had been five months since Elvis’ last album session and his publishers had a chance to secure soundtrack material from a variety of composers. Eleven songs were needed and while the carnival theme stopped most of them having any inspired lyrics, at least the composers Leiber / Stoller and Otis Blackwell were included in the selection.
Reaching #1 on Billboard in early 1965, it would Elvis’ last chart topping album until "Aloha From Elvis Via Satellite" in 1973.
53 years after its original release FTD is pleased to announce the long awaited "Classic Album" version of "Roustabout". Packaged in 7" format with a full colour 16-page memorabilia booklet, it contains some previously unreleased material.
So why has it taken FTD so long to release? It was once noted that only the masters had been located in the vaults, so there was not much to include for a “Classic Album”...

Mindi Miller Interview with EIN: Mindi Miller was a working actress when she met Elvis in early 1975. She was interested in karate (she performed all her own movie stunts), exploring spirituality and the Bible and so they had a lot in common.
Mindi Miller and Elvis bonded over their common interests and soon afterwards he asked her to go on tour with him in April 1975.
She stayed friends with Elvis through the years - along with members of the 'Memphis Mafia' - and attended his funeral.

'Platinum: A Life In Music' Re-Release OUT NOW: Sony UK has re-released the classic 4-Cd set 'Platinum: A Life In Music'- in a small-book format twenty years after its first release in 1997.
The set chronicles the outstanding career of Elvis Presley (1954 to 1977) from a unique perspective and it includes 100 performances, 77 of which were previously unreleased in 1997. This historic overview traces his development as an artist and emphasizes how Elvis' music always returned to its unshakable core values. This 4-CD box set contains a 48-page book and consists mostly of previously unreleased alternate takes of Elvis Presley's hits.
There is no info on whether this 20th anniversary release includes audio upgrades of all the "77 were previously unreleased takes" which have since been remastered.

'Marty Lacker: A Life Well-Lived' & Elvis at American Studio's Interview: It was with immense sadness that last month EIN had to report on the death of our great friend - and a true friend to Elvis - Marty Lacker. We will miss him dearly.
Marty is well-known as one of the key members of the Memphis Mafia and also co-Best Man at Elvis' wedding. He was known for both his honesty and being forthright with his opinions. He was the only member of the Memphis Mafia who still watched and commented on recent Elvis News. He had no issue with holding people to account (especially ones who would inflate their importance within Elvis' legacy) and would regularly ask EIN to add his comments or to correct any inaccuracy.
Elvis fans often ask about Marty Lacker's background, how he came to meet Elvis, as well as his involvement in the music industry outside of working for The King.
As a prelude to Ken Sharp's fascinating interview with Marty Lacker and a discussion about Elvis' famous American Studio' Memphis sessions, EIN presents "Marty Lacker: a life well-lived" in which Marty tells of his life in the music industry, his friendship with Elvis along with his dislike of the over-controlling Col Parker.

'The World of FTD' In-Depth Review: The new deluxe book 'The World Of FTD' has been received by some lucky fans and Elvis collector Mike Lodge has provided EIN with a very detailed review - of well over 3 thousand words!
The book was authored and designed by Keith Flynn with input from a large number of other Elvis specialists including EIN's Piers Beagley, EM&HM's Trevor Cajiao, Geoffrey McDonnell, Gordon Minto and many others.
It is 1,200 pages, hardbound three book set, chronicling every release by FTD.The book also features 100s of high-quality photos from the collection Erik Lorentzen

UPDATED - 'Way Down In The Jungle Room' EIN Review: Released for August 2016 this SONY Legacy pack celebrates the 40th anniversary of Elvis’ last recording sessions which took place in Graceland’s Jungle Room.
The publicity noted the sessions “have been newly mixed by Matt Ross-Spang at Sam Phillips Recording” and “includes both outtakes and in-the-studio dialog, providing a ‘fly-on-the-wall experience’ of what the sessions were like".
Elvis' original 76/77 albums were fairly uninspired collections (bar a few fine singles) and on the original LPs it was almost impossible to glimpse any sign of creative input from Elvis through the syrupy overdubs. It wasn't until the release of FTD’s magnificent ‘The Jungle Room Sessions’ that many fans began to understand the raw emotion, close camaraderie and Elvis’ personal feelings that were revealed by these intimate Graceland sessions.
To produce that same kind of revelation for the 'General Public' would be a very tricky project but that is exactly what the new legacy team has done - and to great effect.

He started collecting and selling Elvis vinyl over 40 years ago and has one of the world's largest Elvis Presley record collections. Did Elvis Record 'Tiger Man' At Sun?: A question that has puzzled Elvis fans through the years is whether he actually recorded the song ‘Tiger Man’ during his years at SUN studios.
The basic question is why did Elvis refer to 'Tiger man' several times in concert as “The second song that I ever recorded, not too many people heard it”?
And if Elvis DID record it, then why hasn’t any reference to it at SUN or proof of its existence been found?
Elvis would first perform ‘Tiger Man’ in concert at his first 1969 Las Vegas International season and would continue playing it through the years – usually in a medley with Mystery Train - until his last performance at Saginaw on May 3 1977. He would sing it over 150 times on stage!
The thought that there might be an acetate or undiscovered tape of Elvis at SUN singing ‘Tiger Man’ is a mouth-watering concept - but is it an unlikely fantasy or strong possibility?
