Lisa Marie Presley Sues Her Former Manager for More Than $100 Million: Lisa Marie’s legal battles are far from over. Elvis Presley’s daughter is suing her former manager, Barry Siegel, after a failed investment. Presley claims that Siegel, who ran the trust that Elvis left for his daughter when he died in 1977, sold 85 percent her interest in Elvis Presley Enterprises for $100 million in 2005, according to the court documents obtained by Us Weekly. The singer-songwriter says in the docs that Siegel used the money from the sale to invest in Core Entertainment, which is the parent company of American Idol. Core went bankrupt in 2016, and as a result, Presley claims she lost $24.5 million.
“Siegel never provided Lisa with the required accounting at any time after the Core deal,” the court docs read, adding that “Siegel reportedly led Lisa to believe she was in ‘good shape’ with her finances.”
The “Nobody Noticed It” singer, 50, is suing Siegel for $100 million because she believes that she has “been damaged in an amount that has not yet been fully ascertained, but is believed to be in excess of $100 million,” the docs read.
As previously reported, Lisa Marie recently made headlines for her financial woes. She claimed in a court documents related to her divorce from Michael Lockwood on February 14 that she was $16 million in debt. According to the documents Lisa Marie owes more than $10 million in taxes from 2012 to 2017 (see EIN story below) and has defaulted on her debt of more than $6 million from her United Kingdom home. Presley also owes $263,050 in professional frees, $47,844 in credit card debt and an estimate of $250,000 in miscellaneous unpaid bills. |

Lisa Marie revealed her financial struggles in response to a request from Lockwood that she help pay part of his $450,000 in attorney fees. Presley and Lockwood, who share 9-year-old twin daughters, called it quits in June 2016 after more than 10 years of marriage.
Other media report that Siegel says Presley has “uncontrollable spending habits” and he has filed his own lawsuit against her.

Elvis Impersonator becomes Australian Deputy Prime Minister!: The world is a crazy place and 'Elvis IS everywhere'.
While EIN tries to avoid the embarrassment of reporting about most Elvis ETAs, we have to note that today Michael McCormack became the leader of the National Party of Australia and thus - due to coalition politics - Australia's Deputy Prime Minister.
Michael McCormack also happens to be an "Occasional Elvis impersonator"!
Michael McCormack (53) grew up on family farms at regional Marrar and Brucedale. Today he told the media that, “His job is to heal the party now and to get back to the issues, and that is what Australians want.”

Protesters ousted from sacred site where Elvis filmed ‘Blue Hawaii’: State sheriffs on Thursday removed protesters from the ruins of a Hawaii hotel where they have been squatting since last year in an attempt to block redevelopment of land where Hawaiian chiefs once lived and where Elvis Presley’s character got married in the movie “Blue Hawaii.”
The Hawaii Department of Public Safety said in a statement Thursday that state sheriffs arrested 23-year-old Mahealani Hanie-Grace for trespassing at Coco Palms on Kauai.
As EIN reported last week, the protest began when two men arrived claiming they owned the property because they descend from King Kaumualii, the last ruler of Kauai. They’ve been joined by dozens of others.
Police have cited protesters for trespassing. A judge last month issued an order to evict them. The public safety department said 25 deputy sheriffs participated in the raid.
The protest is the latest example of Native Hawaiian activists taking a stand on cultural issues and sacred places. |

Protesters in recent years blocked a road leading to the summit of Mauna Kea, the Big Island’s highest peak, to stop the construction of one of the world’s largest telescopes. That case is currently before the courts. Keala Lopez, who has been teaching Hawaiian to those gathered at the property, said people occupying the site are protecting the land and the natural resource. She said they won’t give up now, they’ll just have to adapt.
“I don’t think it will diminish our fire. It’s inspiring for the community to see us continue. We’ve been receiving so much support and aloha, so that I only feel stronger when situations happen,” she said.
The people occupying the Coco Palms site have been growing taro, a traditional Hawaiian staple, and other crops, she said. The effort is more about having a place to live and sleep, she said.
“It’s a cultural calling to preserve and protect this place,” she said.
Coco Palms has been shut since 1992, when Hurricane Iniki heavily damaged the property. Demolition began in 2016, with the goal of reopening in mid-2018. The clash has caused delays, so the developers hope to start construction soon after the protesters leave.
Coco Palms opened as a resort in 1953. Eight years later, it served as the backdrop for scenes in a Hollywood romantic comedy featuring Presley.

How did prestigious British private school blazer turn up in Elvis’ wardrobe?: The prestigious private school attended by ex UK prime minister Tony Blair is investigating how one of its magenta and brown blazers came to be in the wardrobe of Elvis Presley.
Fettes College in Edinburgh, which charges £33,500 a year, also counts Tilda Swinton among its former pupils.
The school was astounded to discover that one of its distinctive jackets had once belonged to Elvis.
The item is being sold by PR Auction online - with no mention of its Scottish roots - and is expected to fetch at least $2,000 (£1,430).

The Fettes College blazer was among a massive collection of the Elvis's possessions which were obtained from his father's home in Tennessee in 1999. The jacket was identified by its Aitken and Niven retailer label with the address marked '79 George Street Edinburgh'. Aitken and Niven supplied the Edinburgh school with its uniform until about 20 years ago, and the same blazers are still worn by the senior boys at the school, now priced at £120.
The Edinburgh school blazer was on display inside the Elvis-a-rama museum from 1999 until 2006.
A spokeswoman for Fettes College said: 'We were utterly delighted when we found out that Elvis Presley owned and wore the distinctive Fettes blazer. An Old Fettesian living in the United States originally alerted us to the discovery and our archivist has been busy trying to find the link between Elvis and Fettes College.
David Ferguson, managing director of Aitken and Niven, who long ago moved from George Street to stores in the city's Morningside and Blackhall areas, confirmed it was a Fettes college blazer.
He said: 'We sold these until about 20 years ago. The school have their own shop now. I don't know how it would come into Elvis's hands. He must have liked the colours.'
A spokesman for PR Auction said: 'The collection in which the jacket was found, is well known to Elvis collectors. In light of the new information about it originating from Scotland, how it made its way to Elvis can only be speculation and an educated guess.
'If I had to guess I would say that it must have been a gift from a fan who recognized that Elvis wore such flashy clothing in the 50s.'
Elvis set foot in Scotland once, during a 60-minute layover at Prestwick airport in 1960, during which he was mobbed by fans.

HBO's "Elvis Presley: The Searcher" largely sidesteps the rock star's status as a pop culture icon in favor of highlighting his artistic ambitions, with a companion soundtrack album that similarly favors his most creative recordings over his signature hits.
'Elvis Presley: The Searcher - Original Soundtrack' spans his earliest recordings at Sun Studio in Memphis, such as 'That's All Right' and 'My Baby Left Me' through song choices that reveal his questing nature that often was obscured by his fame as well as by his detour into Hollywood and, later, Las Vegas.

making a film, I was thinking about the collection of recordings I would gather for a person who saw the film, who wanted to complete the experience, just as I always had."
The deluxe edition also includes a disc containing recordings that influenced Presley, such as Arthur "Big Boy" Crudup's rendition of "That's All Right," the Blackwood Brothers gospel group's version of "Satisfied," bluegrass patriarch Bill Monroe's rendition of "Blue Moon of Kentucky" and Lloyd Price's hit version of "Lawdy Miss Clawdy" that Presley greatly admired.
The soundtrack album is produced by longtime Presley archivist Ernst Mikael Jorgensen, Zimny and rock writer-manager Jon Landau.
Warren Zanes writes in the book, "In this collection, one gets not a greatest hits package but a song-by-song, curated portrait of an artist, an artist who very consistently and courageously gave himself to his performances, as if in the giving he might find some missing part of himself."
Among the numerous Presley disciples Zimny and Zanes interviewed for the documentary are Springsteen and Tom Petty, who recently shared his thoughts about the King of Rock 'n' Roll.

Elvis in Blade Runner 2049: One of the best films of last year was 'Blade Runner 2049' by director Denis Villeneuve. It was the sequel to the 1982 'Blade Runner' and stared Ryan Gosling and Harrison Ford.
Set thirty years after the first film, Ryan Gosling plays K, a blade runner.
And, Yes, in 2049 ELVIS is still relevant! His great musical legacy continues and his holographic image is still playing in Las Vegas. In a delightful touch ELVIS is still playing in Las Vegas but now as a hologram.
EPE's Joel Weinshanker at the time noted, "A genuine Elvis Hologram is a big ‘if’. My position is that you can never create what Elvis had, which is something you can’t put a finger on or describe."
In a time when holographic entertainment seems like it’s readily available and consumed, it makes sense that legends would be brought back from the dead for a constant hurrah.
It’d be odd if Elvis Presley is the only famous figure that the future still holds onto, but for the King of Rock and Roll, it wouldn’t be that surprising. |

Elvis Week 'Garden Party' at Denmark's Memphis Mansion: Henrik Knudsen is planning a special Elvis Extravaganza for Elvis Week 2018.
For three days August 17-19 European Elvis fans can enjoy the delights of Elvis' friends, acquaintances and musicians without the trouble of flying to Memphis.
This will take place at the "Danish version of Graceland" the Randers Memphis Mansion.
Special guests include Linda and Sam Thompson, Dick Grob, James Burton, Glen D Hardin, Ronnie Tutt, Alanna Nash and The Imperials.
Henrik Knudsen started the Official Elvis Presley Fan Club of Denmark back in 1990 and by 1993 had opened the first Elvis exhibition in Randers.

'Elvis Presley - The Beginning' NOT A New DVD: EIN thanks Elvis Express Radio who spotted that the supposedly new documentary - which we ran as a news story last week - is in fact a re-release from 15 years ago!
In no way is it "NEW" or "the only documentary about Elvis 1954-55 tour".
The DVD was originally released by "Delta home entertainment" in 2003 (pic right). Check on Amazon where you can buy the original version for around $2.
The program starts with an Elvis appearance on a KWKH radio broadcast from October 16, 1954, taken from a Louisana Hayride performance by the then 19 year old. You travel the same route they traveled, seeing the small clubs, honky tonks, churches, high schools and other venues they performed at and motels they slept in during this year long odyssey. There are radio promos and even clips of Elvis, who talks about the stress of touring, doing multiple shows each day, the pressure of day to day life on the road.

Five Actors Who Played Elvis Extremely Well: Recently posted on TvOvermind website an entertaining article on actors who have portrayed Elvis in movies.
... There are a lot of actors that have played Elvis Presley, but there are only a few that have really played him well. The list for this is as long as a person's arm and then some. If you decided to count every Elvis impersonator that had ever put on the dark wig, the flashy outfits, and those customary dark sunglasses then the list would never stop. Elvis Presley was and still in many ways is an icon in American culture and if you happen to say that he was just so-so to a diehard fan the best bet is to have a ready argument for your claim or just walk away.
The actors that have played the legendary ELVIS are many, but only a few have ever managed to capture the essence of the man in their acts. |

5. Tyler Hilton - Walk the Line
Hilton's part in this movie was understandably small because it was the story of Johnny Cash and the others were just window dressing.
But there is a pivotal scene that's been argued far and wide since it's deemed very incorrect. It comes when Cash first starts popping pills, because Elvis takes them so it should be okay. The pills they took were commonly used so that they could get from gig to gig without having to take any extra time, but eventually they did become a problem.

4. Michael St. Gerard - Elvis (TV Show)
This is not Gerard's only stint playing Elvis but it is the longest since he didn't have much of a role in Great Balls of Fire on account of the fact that the movie was about Jerry Lee Lewis. Gerard though has the look that simply defines the way that a lot of people wanted to look when impersonating Elvis.
He had the baby face and the classic good looks that made him a shoe-in for the part.

3. Bruce Campbell - Bubba Ho-Tep
So admittedly Campbell plays an impersonator in the film but he still pulls off the look so well that I had to add this one in. A lot of Elvis impersonators just don't have the right kind of build, face shape, or even the swagger to pull off the look.
That's not the point since it's about having fun and paying homage to the king, but in a movie it pays to at least get close to the look.

2. Michael Shannon - Elvis & Nixon
Neither man really looks like the person they're playing, but this is actually quite alright since it's more of a parody of the picture that was taken of the real Elvis and Nixon many years ago. Shannon is doing his best to get the look down, but he definitely gets the eccentricities in there, even if they're not one hundred percent correct, they're still amusing.

1. Kurt Russell - Elvis
Kurt Russell really threw himself into this role. He had the voice just about down, the movements, and the swagger that he needed to be the king. The strength of Russell's role as Elvis helped propel him into bigger leading roles in movies with 'Escape from New York' following soon after. The film had a fine director in John Carpenter (riding success after 'Halloween' in 1978) and is a fine biography even if only made-for-tv.
Kurt Russell also portrayed Elvis again later on in 2001 in '3000 Miles to Graceland' opposite Kevin Costner.
Perhaps it helped that Russell made his film debut as the kid who kicks Elvis in the shins in 1963's 'It Happened at the World's Fair'.

It takes a lot to fill Elvis' shoes, but some actors do a pretty good job.
EIN would also note two other performers of Elvis,
- Johnny Harra in the quality 1981 bio-pic 'This Is Elvis' who had the difficult job of playing the older Elvis. Harra was however an Elvis impersonator rather than an actor.
Incredibly EPE / Priscilla let them film upstairs in Graceland in Elvis' bedroom!
Marty Lacker noted, "It was filmed upstairs and they would have to have permission to do so. I put nothing past Priscilla especially if she got paid." (Go here for more Marty Lacker RIP)
- Val Kilmer, who looks nothing like Elvis, but did a marvellous job in True Romance (1993) as the ghost of Elvis watching over Christian Slater's role as comic-book nerd / Elvis fan.
True Romance is a very fine thriller / romp with excellent Screenplay by Quentin Tarantino and excellent director Tony Scott.

HBO's 'Elvis-The Searcher': EIN contributor George Smith has supplied some tremendous thoughts about 'Elvis-The Searcher' the new HBO documentary.
Whereas some fans have been disappointed with the lack of unreleased Elvis material on the soundtrack compilations, George Smith points out the great positives..
- The very idea of this documentary is thrilling. I've been waiting all of my adult life for a serious and respected music film-maker to assemble the definitive Elvis documentary. Whether this turns out to be that documentary remains to be seen, but it looks very promising to me at the moment.
-It will make judicious use of existing tapes to tell the story of Elvis' journey as a creative artist. It will not contain substantial amounts of rare video and music, instead offering commentary from those who knew, loved, worked with and were profoundly influenced by Elvis Presley.
- The marketing imagery is brave and should be applauded. One of the reasons Elvis has relatively little respect among subsequent generations of music listeners is the often shoddy and cliched use of photographs and typography on his LP covers and advertising. Here there is not one single hint of the iconic Elvis used in the picture. Instead they have chosen a mug shot of an ordinary man. Clearly he is a handsome man, But he is just a man. Not a demi-God or a superstar, just a man.
- 'Elvis-The Searcher' may not necessarily be aimed directly at the keen Elvis collector. Instead, it will serve several purposes: it will draw in serious music fans who, until now, have not shown any interest in Presley's music or career but who respect the opinions of people like Springsteen, Petty, Landau, etc;

- It may possibly draw in the casual music fan who just likes to see a well-made documentary;
- It will hopefully draw very positive reviews from the press and the music press, and may even encourage an editorial or two about Elvis' much overlooked artistry and contribution to civil rights;
- It will at last give fans like me something to point the unenlightened towards when they confess to not liking or understanding Presley or his music.
- The accompanying CD will act as a simple tool to encourage those who "bite" to investigate further. It may not sell millions of copies and is not intended to but the graphics look gorgeous to my eyes, as does the track listing.
- This is potentially the single most exciting event in the Elvis world for the past decade, rivalling even the Tupelo box set.

Activists delay rebuild of Coco Palms: Developers rebuilding the hurricane-ravaged Coco Palms' Hawaii hotel have been delayed by activists including two men who arrived claiming to own the property because they descend from King Kaumualii, the last ruler of Kauai.
The men set up camp in tents and at the old tennis pro shop at the shuttered resort, where Elvis Presley's character got married in the 1961 film "Blue Hawaii."
Hurricane Iniki forced its closure in 1992.
Police were called, trespassing citations were written, and a judge last month issued an order to evict them. Since then a stream of protesters has come and gone some camped out at the resort near an ancient Hawaiian fishpond in the community of Wailua. It's the latest example of Native Hawaiian activists taking a stand on cultural issues and sacred places.
Kaukaohu Wahilani noted "That was the place of kings, that was the place of alli (royalty), it was a sacred place, and it still is."

approached. But no police showed up, and the protesters remained.
Demolition began in 2016, with the goal of reopening in mid-2018. The clash has caused delays, so the developers hope to start construction soon after the protesters leave.
The renovated hotel will have 350 rooms, including 22 master suites and about 50 junior suites. Hyatt will manage the hotel once it's reopened.
Wailua was the political center of Kauai long before the resort opened in 1953 and Presley's character crooned the "Hawaiian Wedding Song" while holding his bride's hand and boarding a raft to cross a lagoon.
It's where chiefs were born and lived, said Lilia Merrin from the University of Hawaii's Kamakakuokalani Center for Hawaiian Studies. Because of its high amount of surface water, it was ideal for loi, irrigated fields for farming the starchy vegetable taro, a staple crop, she said.

'Murfreesboro '74' FTD will be One of the Best!: Elvis' March 1974 tour was one of the strongest of the year and FTD have already released four concerts from that tour, including the famous Memphis show.
But if you are considering that you don't need yet another 2 concerts from that tour, then "Reconsider-Baby" as FTD contributor Robert Frieser notes that these are two of Elvis' best performances from 1974.
.. The two Murfreesboro shows from March 14th and especially March 19 can be seen as the highlight of the March tour.
These shows can be seen as a prelude to the famous record recording of March 20 in Memphis, the recording of which Elvis received a grammy award for his rendition of How Great Thou Art, counts as one of the best shows of 1974.
The Tour had highlights such as the Tulsa Shows, Houston Astrodome shows but also the Roanoke and Richmond shows were top notch.
The tour was actually a 15 day tour but because of the speed with which the tickets were sold out, more shows were booked.

Elvis who had not toured since July 1973 had first completed a fully booked season in Las Vegas in January & February of 1974. At those shows in Las Vegas there was quite some criticism in the media, but that criticism faded with the shows he did in March. The shows were highly professional and alternating his voice and show attitude was good.
The show of March 14th is a very cool show, vocally Elvis is in top form. During Love Me Tender Elvis is irritated by the feedback. And Elvis asks Felton to do something about the sound. Polk salad Annie is a top version and on Why Me Lord he does the last part of the song again. At the end of Suspicious Minds he does a one-liner of Take These Chains. For Charlie Hodge it's a special evening, Elvis told the audience that the parents of Charlie Hodge are in the audience and therefore he does a duet with Charlie on Help Me.
The sound of the show is of a good sound quality. So we have something to enjoy, Elvis is in good shape and gives people value for their money but the highlight of this release is the show on March 19th. The show of Richmond a day earlier was already a top show and Elvis was pretty loose and in his element.
The show in Murfreesboro is even better, this is because it's the end of the tour and maybe the looking forward of the Memphis record recording, that Elvis keeps getting better and better. |

In this show Elvis has even more fun and Elvis is even more loose and vocally even better. This show features a powerhouse performance of Steamroller Blues and also during the introductions, Elvis takes the time to thank Ramada Inn for the good care of the group. before Help Me, Elvis tells us that the song was written by Larry Gaitlin. Sadly the tape ends 40 seconds into Mystery Train. This show was the best show of the tour. A professional show with Elvis very much at ease.
These shows have been on the wish list by ftd for a long time.

Elvis Presley’s Omega Wristwatch For Auction: Elvis Presley’s Omega wristwatch goes on the block during the auction house’s Geneva Watch Auction on May 12 and 13 at Hôtel La Réserve.
At a charity event and concert in 1961, RCA Records, Presley’s label at the time, presented him with the 18-karat white gold dress watch set with 44 brilliant-cut diamonds on the bezel to mark his impressive achievement of selling 75 million records. The watch was purchased at Tiffany & Co. and features the retailer’s signature on the dial underneath the Omega designation at 12 o’clock. The case back bears the inscription “To Elvis, 75 Million Records, RCA Victor, 12-25-60,” commemorating the date that the sales milestone was reached.
As the story goes, the uncle of the watch’s consignor randomly met Presley in a Las Vegas bar in the 1960s. |

After expressing mutual admiration for each other’s watches, Presley suggested to trade his Omega for the other gentleman’s diamond-set Hamilton on the spot, which they did. Presley’s watch was later passed on to its current owner, so it has never appeared on the market before.
“We believe Elvis Presley had hundreds of watches throughout his lifetime,” says Paul Boutros, Phillips head of watches for the Americas, who notes that some of his timepieces, including a Rolex King Midas, are displayed at Graceland. “This particular watch is the first one to come to market that has such a clear and convincing provenance that celebrates a really important milestone in his career.”
The estimate is US$54,000 to US108,000, the Elvis lore increases the estimate tenfold compared to what a similar watch would be valued at without it.

EPE vs City of Memphis etc in Court: As reported by the Memphis Business Journal, the “plaintiffs are ‘caught in a trap’ and they ‘can’t walk out’.”
Elvis lyrics quoted in legal documents could only mean one thing: Elvis Presley Enterprises (EPE) is in court to try and get approval for their planned 6,000+ seat venue on its Graceland campus.
The discussion centred on whether the new arena would violate the FedExForum arena use agreement with Memphis Basketball (Memphis Grizzlies), City of Memphis and Shelby County.
To help fund the proposed venue, EPE wants to seek approval to increase its TIF (tax increment financing) from 50 percent to 65 percent and add the venue to its existing Graceland TIF district.
EPE’s Graceland campus was previously awarded the Graceland TIF to support debt service payments for The Guest House at Graceland, its 450-room hotel, and Elvis Presley’s Memphis, an entertainment and exhibit complex.
Memphis Basketball filed its motion, the reply states how the “Plaintiffs will need ‘a little more bite and a little less bark’ if they are to avoid dismissal of their complaint” — to be clear, yes, the Grizzlies' reply brief makes multiple references to Elvis lyrics throughout its dozen pages.

The other defendants — the City of Memphis and Shelby County — also filed motions to dismiss EPE’s declaratory judgment action. All three cite how the plaintiff was not a third-party beneficiary.

Lisa Marie Presley is more than $16 million in debt!: So where’s all the money, honey?! According to court documents filed on Valentine’s Day, Lisa Marie noted that she only has a total liquid assets of less than $20,000 and owes more than $10 million in unpaid taxes for the the years 2012 to 2015. Presley filed the court documents in response to the nasty ongoing divorce proceedings with her estranged husband, Michael Lockwood, who is suing Presley for spousal support and attorney’s fees.
According to the paperwork, Presley’s current business manager Justin Stiegemeyer claims his client “had not been provided with proper accountings or notices or been kept abreast of her finances” by her former business manager and that at the time they were fired, Presley had “total liquid assets of less than $20,000.”
Lisa Marie's ex Michael Lockwood won't face any personal charges following her claims he possessed inappropriate photos of children. The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation looked into the matter but could not determine any crime had occurred.
Presley does receive a monthly salary of $4,361 from her late father Elvis Presley’s estate, and has $100,000 in dividends and interest from investments.
Presley and Lockwood, who married in 2006 and had twin daughters in 2008, have been locked in a bitter divorce battle for two years.
Lockwood has requested spousal support and asked Presley to cover his attorney’s fees.

If you are someone who feels a tightness in your chest and teardrops swell in your eyes when you listen to a sublime Elvis song, then perhaps no one but Elvis can make your Valentine's Day! You are almost certainly a baby boomer and you owe this to Elvis before you go - it is time to rename Valentine's Day as "Elvis Day".
Valentine's Day is the ultimate celebration of love, the most precious of human feelings, personified by Elvis as no one else has. This is borne out by the titles he chose for his songs and their lyrics, with almost all of his best songs featuring love and heartache.
What makes Elvis uniquely deserving is the emotionall avalanche of each of his songs, delivered with powerful voice, intonation, timbre and mountains of emotion to someone in front of him, making you feel that someone was no one but you. Entertaining biography by Elvis' co-star on Spinout, Diane McBain: One of the most well written and entertainment biographies in recent years is Diane McBain's Famous Enough A Hollywood Memoir. Many of you will recognise her as one of Elvis' co-stars in the enjoyable film, Spinout (aka California Holiday).
Written with acclaimed author, Michael Gregg Michaud, Famous Enough is a candid and revealing look at Hollywood.

Ms McBain fondly remembers her time working on Spinout, stating:
The excitement of being on a movie set helped me. The cast and crew were terrific, supprtive, and great fun. Elvis was a huge help, too. He was slim and gorgeous, at the top of his form. I hadn't really been a big fan, so I didn't know what to expect. The rumors that preceded him were true. He behaved like a complete gentleman.
The author is not as kind about a number of other male actors in Hollywood and she also discusses how she and Elvis incessantly talked about their favorite books and how surprised she was to discover Elvis had a spiritual side.
Famous Enough has been rightly lauded as brutally honest, at times harrowing and a highly entertaining read. The good, the bad and the ugly of Hollywood are laid bare within its more than 400 pages. 'Marty Lacker RIP: A Life Well-Lived' & Elvis at American Studio's Interview: It was with immense sadness that one year ago on February 13, 2017 our great friend - and a true friend to Elvis - Marty Lacker passed away. We still miss him dearly.
Marty is well-known as one of the key members of the Memphis Mafia and also co-Best Man at Elvis' wedding. He was known for both his honesty and being forthright with his opinions. He was the only member of the Memphis Mafia who still watched and commented on recent Elvis News. He had no issue with holding people to account (especially ones who would inflate their importance within Elvis' legacy) and would regularly ask EIN to add his comments or to correct any inaccuracy.
Elvis fans often ask about Marty Lacker's background, how he came to meet Elvis, as well as his involvement in the music industry outside of working for The King.

Populism Has Created An "Elvis Presley Politics Of Now Or Never": The former President of Galway-Mayo Institute of Technology, Marion Coy says that the political centre in Ireland must now examine how it presents itself in the current "politics of fear".
Ms Coy, the Chair of the political think tank Collins Institute, was speaking at their inaugural conference, entitled 'Populism: The Response from the Centre', which took place at Trinity College during the weekend.
The former third level chief of GMIT said: “We have an Elvis Presley politics of now or never and increasingly we find ourselves confronted by people like May and Trump saying 'pick me- there is no alternative.'"
She added: "We don’t subscribe to this politics of fear and this creation of a sense of ongoing crisis and we want to try and contest that here in Ireland and make sure that we consider alternatives.
“The question for us in this country is are we too in a politics of fear, and we believe there is a need to have a look at how the centre presents itself in a world that is dominated by this philosophy.” |

Ms Coy continued: “One of the characteristics of populism is this creation of a sense of urgency and crisis, so regardless of what country you’re looking at- France, the UK, Hungary, Turkey, Greece and Ireland- there is a sense that time is speeding up and that the unexpected is always awaiting us.
“In Ireland we tend to hear the same voices all the time, so for our conference this weekend we have set out to find alternative voices to emphasise the notion that there are a multiplicity of ways of looking at issues and ideas.”
Speakers at the event included Minister for Finance and Public Expenditure & Reform, Paschal Donohoe and David Goodhart, commentator and author who predicted Brexit. He is the founder and former editor of Prospect Magazine and also the author of bestseller 'The Road to Somewhere' on populism.
The Institute, a political think tank, says the conference was an opportunity to consider some of the features of social, political, economic and cultural life that have given rise to our increasingly unpredictable political milieu.

Graceland Commemorates Elvis' Army Anniversary: Elvis began his service in the United States military on March 24, 1958, when he was inducted into the U.S. Army.
The 60th anniversary this year will also mark the opening of an expanded "Private Presley" Army exhibit at Elvis Presley's Memphis. The newly-expanded exhibit will take an in-depth look at Elvis' military service, including letters from Elvis' manager Col. Parker to the Army asking for a deferment to allow Elvis to complete filming of "King Creole," letters from the Army regarding press access to Elvis, his original Army footlocker, the dress that his mother Gladys wore at his induction ceremony, and more. Fans can also learn about how Col. Parker kept Elvis' career alive while he was serving in Germany and see items from Frank Sinatra's legendary "Welcome Home, Elvis" 1960 ABC television special.

On March 24, 1958, Elvis was inducted into the United States Army at the Memphis Draft Board and assigned serial number 53310761. On March 25, at Fort Chaffee, Arkansas, he received his indoctrination exam and traditional, military, G.I. haircut in front of 55 media photographers. Elvis commented to the crowd, "Hair today, gone tomorrow."

Elvis received basic training at Fort Hood, Texas. Private Presley was assigned to the 2nd Armored Division at Fort Hood and received advanced tank instruction. Elvis was stationed there for six months and his parents joined him at a temporary home near the base.
In August 1958, Gladys Presley became ill and returned to Memphis where she was hospitalized with acute hepatitis she died on August 14th at the age of 46.
The following month Elvis left the U.S. for his eighteen-month assignment to West Germany in September 1958. Elvis was assigned to Company C, a scout platoon frequently on maneuvers. It was hoped that in this capacity, Private Presley would be largely out of the public eye and able to do his duty as an active member of the U.S. Army. Company C left for maneuvers in Grafenwohr, Bavaria, on the Czech border on November 2, 1958.

Here, Elvis endured the same field conditions as every other soldier. Elvis achieved the rank of private first class in November 1958, specialist fourth class in June 1959, and sergeant in January 1960. He was honorably discharged on March 5, 1960.
Elvis served his country just like any other G.I., with none of the special privileges his celebrity status might have afforded him. He was, by all accounts, a model soldier, earning the lasting respect of his fellow soldiers and the public at large. Elvis worried what the long time away from recording and acting might mean for his career. His fans, however, remained steadfast, new audiences would embrace him and many of his greatest achievements still lay ahead.
Elvis returned home to Graceland in March 1960 with great press and public fanfare. He quickly went back to the recording studio producing his album "Elvis Is Back!", which would hit number two on the charts with three singles going to number one.
EPE salutes the US troops and to commemorate the 60th Anniversary of Elvis' military service, Graceland has announced that complimentary tickets to the new Elvis Presley's Memphis entertainment and exhibit complex will be made available on Saturday, March 24, 2018 to all military veterans and those serving on active duty. -

Sexual Harassment and the Elvis Film: Hollywood is currently reeling from the Harvey Weinstein scandal and its aftermath with a growing number of prominent actors and behind-the-scenes protagonists being accused of inappropriate behaviour. As the inappropriate behaviour has been occurring since the early days of film it struck EIN that it probably happened behind the scenes during the filming of a number of Elvis’ movies.
In researching the issue it was Tom Lisanti’s series of film and television related books which were revelatory. Lisanti’s books are a collection of profiles, interviews and tributes about actors and films popular during the 60’s. They offer a wonderful and thoroughly entertaining window into the fun and sometimes less than professional mores of what was a cool, swinging time but sadly a seriously compromised industry.
Several of his books also reveal alleged inappropriate behaviour by celebrated film producer/director, Hal Wallis!

In Fantasy Femmes of the Sixties, Lisanti provides this account of the experience of Julie Parrish, Elvis’ co-star in Paradise, Hawaiian Style (1966):
As a young naive actress in Hollywood, Julie unfortunately ran into a number of directors and producers who didn’t respect women. “I couldn’t understand why an old guy with white hair would be after me. I was revolted by it. From the beginning, my agent taught me to make excuses to get out of these situations. The main thing was to not hurt their feelings because they might fix it so you didn’t work again.”
“I really wanted to work with Elvis. I was in every Elvis fan club around when I was a teenager. I would even do Elvis imitations with the long sideburns and guitar when I was in high school. So I convinced Hal Wallis to give me another shot and did the test over. Then I got the part. Mr. Wallis, who was married, was an old lech. I think he felt there was an unspoken promise that I would sleep with him since he allowed me to re-test for the part. On the day before filming began, he called me into his office, led me over to the sofa, and briefly kissed me on the mouth. He said, ‘Little girl, we’re going to have a long talk about your future.’ I made up any excuse to get out of there. While on location he was constantly calling me and asking me out. It was quite annoying and insulting. He called me one last time in Hawaii and said, ‘Little girl, you’d better think again.’ I knew I would probably never work for him again, but that was fine with me. This whole incident highly offended me. I’m not claiming to have been an innocent, but when I make mistakes, I like them to be due to choices of my own.”
Lisanti recounts Ms Parrish’s experience in his most recent book, Talking Drive-In Movies (2017) and also reveals the experience of another young actress who co-starred with Elvis:
Parrish wasn’t the only starlet who had a problem with Wallis. Laurel Goodwin almost did too previously on Girls! Girls! Girls! “Hal Wallis made me a little nervous,” commented Goodwin in Drive-In Dream Girls. “But by the time that we were in a position where there might have been a problem for me he had a personal crisis. Jon Abbott, in his book, The Elvis Films, described the sexual harassment of Julie Parrish and Laurel Goodwin by Hal Wallis as:
Parrish was apparently not so lucky, and suffered the usual cliched pushy threats of the stereotypical middle-aged movie producer.
Hal Wallis was no stranger to accusations of sexual harassment. One of the most interesting, sourced from Bernard F. Dick’s biography, Hal Wallis: Producer to the Stars and recounted in the online journal Famous Casting Couch Victims is:
Even when it was clear to him that actress Corinne Calvet lacked the talent to become the next Greta Garbo or Ingrid Bergman, Paramount Pictures producer Hal Wallis continued to show interest in Calvet. According to her autobiography, Has Corinne Been a Good Girl? (1983), Wallis expected her to have sex with him in exchange for her starring in the studio’s 1949 film Rope of Sand.However, Calvet was unwilling to trade sex for a role in the film. She was a married woman, she told him. Allegedly, he countered by stating that her marriage was merely one of convenience, suggested by him as good for publicity. Wallis dropped her option in 1953.To avenge herself, she had sex with him while she was sick. The next day, Wallis developed a strep throat. Calvet sent him four dozen roses with a get-well-soon card and a note: “Next time, I’ll give you something worse. Best wishes for your recovery.”
It will be interesting to see if the scandal currently engulfing Hollywood leads to new accusations of inappropriate behaviour during the filming of Elvis movies.

Devoted daughter seeks help to send her Elvis-mad father diagnosed with MND to Graceland before his condition worsens: During his life Elvis supported those in need through his annual charity giving and helping strangers he had only just met. Many Elvis fan clubs continue Elvis' spirit of giving by regularly raising money to help local charities and those in unfortunate situations.
The following news story about UK Elvis fan, Robert Hornby, who has been diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease (MND) and has less than three years to live is a sobering one reminding us all about how fragile life can be. Robert's daughter, Louise, has given up her job to care full-time for her father and has commenced a fund raising bid hoping to send her dad to Graceland.

A devoted daughter has launched a fundraising bid to help get her Elvis-mad dad to Graceland after he was diagnosed with a devastating degenerative illness. Louise Hornby, 31, is hoping to raise £3,500 as soon as possible to take her dad Robert on the trip-of-a-lifetime to the late star’s mansion in Memphis, US. Louise Hornby and father Robert, 55. Robert has been diagnosed with MND and Louise is trying to raise money for the Elvis fan to get to Graceland before his condition worsens. The 55-year-old, of West Park, was diagnosed last year with progressive bulbar palsy motor neurone disease (MND) - a rare condition which leads to gradual paralysis and eventual death.
It has already robbed the dad-of-two of his ability to speak or eat and drink and doctors have said he has a maximum life expectancy of between 14 months and three years. Louise, who has given up her job and home to care for her dad, said: “It’s heartbreaking. It’s a cruel disease. There is no cure. It’s just devastated the family.
“He’s still mentally capable. It’s just his brain is not connecting with the rest of his body. It feels like I’m watching this disease take him away from me day by day and there’s nothing I can do.”
Louise said the family always wanted to take him to Graceland for his 60th birthday but now fear he won’t reach that date. “He’s always been a massive Elvis fan, since I can ever remember. It was always on in the house and at family gatherings he would be on the dance floor. He has every LP and CD - just a massive fan. Graceland has been somewhere he always wanted to go. If I can do this one thing for him, I would be very happy. We’d like to do it while he is still has some mobility.” Louise has also moved her wedding date forward to make sure her dad is with her on her big day. Scrapping an already-booked date in June, she is now set to wed fiancé Christopher Douglas, 31, on April 7 at Leeds Town Hall.
“With dad’s condition progressing, I made the decision to bring it forward so I can have him there and he is physically able to walk me down the aisle. That’s my wish.” She added: “Christopher’s aware that my dad comes first. He’s been so supportive. I couldn’t ask for a better partner.”

A Tallahassee pastor held what a columnist described as “a spirited bonfire celebration.” Several hundred albums worth about $2,200 all told were put to the torch. Elvis records were burned on various pretenses, from his presumably corrupting effect on the morals of kids to the alleged communist influence of rock ‘n’ roll.
Beatles records were burned after John Lennon suggested that the Fab Four were more popular than Jesus. By the 1970s, the sexual revolution was in full swing, and that provided the justification for the Tallahassee record roast. |

The Reverend Mr. Charles Boykin criticized rock music for its “appeal to the flesh,” but he wasn’t just speaking in generalities — he had statistics. Out of a thousand girls giving birth out of wedlock, he claimed, 984 of them were listening to rock music when they got pregnant. To fight this lascivious trend, albums by artists including the Rolling Stones and Elton John were fricasseed.
The columnist wisecracked that all of the pregnant girls were breathing at the time of conception, so “maybe the congregation should hold their breath.” While a few critics might have been sympathetic to setting copies of It’s Only Rock and Roll (the Stones’ most recent album) ablaze, the protest got little notice at the time, and had little effect — after all, Boykin wasn’t calling for the burning of rock radio stations. The Oracle Speaks: What did capitalist society learn between the advent of Elvis in the mid 1950s and the (let’s face it) musically stuttering Rolling Stones of the mid 1970s? Going by the above, it seems not much! Yes, Elvis opened the door very wide to allow subsequent minstrels of alleged societal destruction the opportunity to air their dastardly deeds. But hey….have a guess what? In the noughties it doesn’t seem they succeeded!
The fundamental issue here is that western societies were still paranoid about change in the mid 1970s. OK there was a Cold War raging but even blind Charlie (and what an inspired harmonica infused blues player he was) could see teenager’s music had not undone the core pillars of western democracy and capitalist society. In fact, the advent of Elvis and the subsequent burgeoning market driven by youth favored music and fashion had only stimulated the capitalist levers to produce more, sell more, create bigger profits and (heaven help the world) help validate a teenager’s identity (in 2012 a teenager in love is not that different to a teenager in love in 1955).
So if rock and roll, rock, punk and rap and whatever Gangnam Style is, represent society’s Devil in Disguise, I’ll sleep a lot easier tonight. It could have been a lot worse! I mean, there could have been fruitcakes in the kitchen!!!

Elvis 'The Searcher' Hits & Rarities Soundtrack: Rolling Stone has run a short news piece for the up-coming The Searcher release.
An expansive soundtrack Elvis Presley: The Searcher, will be released April 6th. The soundtrack features a mix of Elvis hits and alternate mixes, while a deluxe edition will feature selections from the documentary's score composed by Pearl Jam guitarist Mike McCready.
The Searcher soundtrack will be available digitally and on CD and double vinyl LP, while the deluxe edition will packaged as a three-CD set. All versions are available to pre-order.
Along with the original soundtrack and parts of Pearl Jam's Mike McCread's score, the deluxe edition of The Searcher soundtrack will include a plethora of bonus material including additional rarities, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers' rendition of "Wooden Heart" and classic R&B, country and gospel songs that inspired Elvis.
The set will also come with a 40-page hardcover book packed with rare photographs and a note from director Thom Zimny.
Thom Zimny, "From day one I had a soundtrack in mind; one that would cover Elvis in a new way and go deep into the vault. Thanks to the help of Sony Legacy and the efforts of Ernst Jorgensen, I was able to pore over thousands of recordings and Elvis Presley outtakes. I also wanted the film's soundtrack to pay tribute to the many artists who influenced Elvis, and to incorporate their music to create a sonic landscape that I hoped would give the viewer the experiences Elvis had absorbing the many genres he was exposed to and influenced by – from gospel, to R&B, to country."
He added that McCready's score "brought additional sonic textures and emotional overtones that helped to capture this artist's journey."
The Searcher will premiere on HBO April 14th.
The film was made with the cooperation of EPE and Zimny was reportedly allowed unprecedented access to the Graceland archives.

3 New FTD Releases: FTD today have announced three new releases for the end of this month. A double digipack 1974 previously unreleaed soundboard, the previously announced book/cd 'Rebel With A Cause' plus the double-vinyl “Elvis – The Fool Album”.
- 'Elvis: Murfreesboro ‘74'.
Released as a 5” digipack, this 2-CD set features Elvis in great form at these two shows on March 14th & 19th 1974 at the Murfreesboro Middle State Tennessee University.
The sound quality and performances from Elvis and the band are really powerful.
“Steamroller Blues” will knock your socks off!.
These two soundboards have never been released before not even on bootleg
FTD have previously released five concerts from this tour (check EIN's FTD releases here) and they have all been very fine indeed.

Luckily for Elvis’ super fans, the “King of Rock and Roll’s” former wife, Priscilla is happy to share details about the legendary superstar.
In fact, Priscilla recently shared a rather funny quirk about Elvis during her recent visit at WGN 9 Morning News.
As it turns out, “The King” was actually somewhat of a germaphobe.
Priscilla explained, “When he drank his coffee, he would always drink it close to the handle and not anywhere else, because everywhere else other people would drink. He was religious about it, so it was always his cup.”
But she said Elvis was actually less of a germaphobe as an adult than he was in his youth.
“Not so much as when he was a child. When he was a child he would go to all his relatives’ homes and stay, and his mother would give him his own fork, and his own knife and spoon to bring, but he didn’t like it. He didn’t know for sure if it was clean or not.”
Dirty cup specifications aside, Priscilla also chatted about her previous role as girlfriend, and then wife, to Elvis. The two were married from 1967 to 1973, but remained close friends after their divorce.

"Big Boots" was build up out of three versions (slow, medium and fast) and even "Blue Suede Shoes" sound different than before, although there was only one take to work with..

It's the summer of 1976, and America is celebrating its bicentennial. What could be more patriotic than seeing America's greatest entertainer in the city where the countries' Declaration of Independence was formed and signed?
Compared with July and August 1976 concerts, performances in June were of a much better standard and the Philadelphia concert is no exception. Elvis did a fine show that night.
The Philadelphia, June 28th, 1976 show is previously unreleased. Until now, this show was not available in acceptable sound. The only existing tape was in horrible quality. Our release has been taken directly from a previously unreleased original audience-recorded cassette. This concert was recorded by an Elvis fan from Pennsylvania.
This release is presented in a de-luxe 6-panel digipak with collection of photos taken in Philadelphia, PA, June 28th, 1976 and with great liner notes written by the fan who taped the show!

- 'Rippin' It In Cincinnatti'
It was the 1st tour of 1976 and some of Elvis' key musicians were replaced. Unexpectedly, the result was a surprisingly fresh sound, with keyboards and drums prominent. During this rather short tour, Elvis performed 8 solid and entertaining shows in 4 cities.
The Cincinnati, March 21st, 1976, 2:30pm show is previously unreleased. Once again, this show was not available in acceptable sound thus far. The only existing tape in circulation was in subpar quality. This was the show where Elvis ripped the seat of his blue Bicentennial suit during "Polk Salad Annie", and finished the show dressed in the Rainfall suit. It is one of the very few shows where Elvis left the stage for a while (another example is Baltimore, May 29, 1977, released on our 2CD "Breakdown In Baltimore").
Our release has been taken directly from a first generation copy of a previously unreleased original audience-recorded cassette. This concert was recorded by Elvis super fan John Herman.
As usual, this release is presented in a de-luxe 6-panel digipak with collection of photos taken in Cincinnati and local press reviews. A couple of unpublished John Herman snapshots were added, too.

- 'He's The One In '71'
Our 3rd CD in this batch, and some might say, the best. Straight Arrow is very pleased to bring you this rare concert recording from Elvis' Summer 1971 festival. It is always a delight to find new tapes from this year and this is an excellent recording of the August 28th dinner show.
Elvis' previous engagement there had shown signs of his high performing standard slipping, but here he sounds like he's back on track again. Late August shows are tight, no-nonsense affairs with Presley in good voice and in strong form. He performs with focus and professionalism, and he sings a fantastic variety of music.
The Las Vegas, August 28th, 1971, Dinner show is previously unreleased. The only existing tape/CDR in circulation is of very poor quality. Our release has been taken directly from a recently obtained first generation copy of an original audience-recorded cassette. This concert was recorded by an Elvis fan from France, Marie Chantal Rivière, who also taped other August 1971 Las Vegas shows.
This release is presented in a de-luxe 6-panel digipak with collection of photos taken in August 1971 and press reviews.

Happy 50th Birthday Lisa Marie!: It's hard to believe but today is Lisa Marie's 50th birthday. Lisa Marie was born February 1st 1968, nine months to the day after Elvis and Priscilla's wedding in Las Vegas on May 1, 1967.
The world has long been fascinated with the children of celebrities. While she has had her ups and downs life must have been a truly emotional roller-coaster being the daughter of Elvis. Unlike many celebrity children Lisa Marie has been famous her entire life, pretty much every second.
Cameras were in Priscilla’s Baptist Memorial Hospital room in Memphis, Tenn., after Lisa Marie was born in 1968. And they even followed her parents, with Priscilla in a wheelchair, as they headed home for the first time.
Lisa Marie has gone on to become a star in her own right, her 2003 debut album, To Whom It May Concern, went platinum and the world has watched her every step of the way.
Lisa Marie has been married four times. She first married Chicago-born musician Danny Keough in 1988, having two children, Riley Keough (actress born 1989) and son Benjamin Keough, born in 1992.

More famously she also married Michael Jackson and actor Nicolas Cage, before marrying music producer Michael Lockwood, father of her twin girls.
Her relationship with Michael Lockwood has ended with nasty on-going court cases

| FREE Beer this Weekend if you dress like Elvis: You might have a Suspicious Mind but this this is definitely true, this weekend in Brighton UK, a pub is serving up free beer to its customers if you dress up as Elvis.
In a cute positive response to EPE taking them to court, Brewdog, in Grand Parade, Brighton UK will give a schooner of its Elvis Juice to anyone who shows up wearing any element of an Elvis costume this Saturday and Sunday.
The pub is located a short distance north of the iconic Brighton Royal Pavilion.
The independent Scottish brewer, which has 37 bars across the UK, is celebrating its trademark victory over the Elvis Presley Estate.
BrewDog Elvis Juice, a grapefruit-infused IPA, was launched in 2015.
But it was quickly hit with a lawsuit from The King’s estate, alleging it infringed on its trademark and requesting BrewDog change the name.
Elvis, who died in 1977, had his name and likeness trademarked by EPE, which earns millions of dollars through a licensing programme that grants the right to manufacture and sell Elvis merchandise worldwide. |

In response, co-founders James Watt and Martin Dickie changed their first names to Elvis to demonstrate the lack of exclusivity of the name.
A judge ruled in the estate’s favour in 2017 but, following an appeal, Brewdog finally won its battle last week.
James Watt said: “It’s a triumph for all underdogs battling against corporate inflexibility and entrenched hubris.
“It’s a win for the thousands of beer drinkers across the world who have been refreshed by amazing craft beer and who have supported us over the last three years.
“This is a vindication of our belief in freedom and our dogged decision to appeal against the initial ruling.”
So put on your brew suede shoes and head down to Brewdog Brighton which will be open on Saturday from 11am to 1am and 11am to 11pm on Sunday.
The Brewdog beer company, which launched in Scotland in 2007, quickly became well known for its “punk” ethos which rejected corporate standards and norms.

"Elvis was my first love" says Linda Thompson: Fox News recently reported on Linda Thompson remembering Elvis some forty years on.
Linda Thompson told them "I was always a fan, but I didn't think he would transcend time and space and become the iconic, almost religion he is now,"
Thompson was crowned Miss Tennessee back in 1972. She first met Presley at a movie theater. The former pageant queen described how Presley, whose marriage to Priscilla Presley had ended, was abusing prescription pills. The pair dated from 1972 until 1976.
Talking about Elvis' health issues she noted, "I don't have such an ego that I think I could have made a difference. But I know I did |

take very good care of him and probably extended his life by a few years. I felt a keen responsibility to take good care of him.
Elvis was my first love, the one who altered my life the most. He was the first, and that's always very special. Time and circumstances will express themselves no matter what you do."
While Thompson went on to marry Bruce Jenner, now Caitlyn Jenner. She also later wed music producer David Foster, but they split in 2005. Still, she still keeps Presley in her heart.
"Elvis was very old-fashioned, I think that was one thing that he very much appreciated and valued in me, that I was a virtuous girl at the time. I wasn't that young, but I was a Southern Baptist. I grew up very conservatively and traditionally. I wanted to save myself for marriage, and he just thought that was very commendable. He didn't want to put the pressure on me to commit before I was ready. He was a Southern gentleman, a lovely human being."
Thompson also revealed she learned "romantic love" from Presley while living with him in Las Vegas and Graceland, as well as when they hit the road together for his performances.
"I learned just about everything about love, both good and bad. One of the biggest lessons I learned from living with Elvis and loving him for so many years was that we're all human, and no matter what level one has reached in terms of fame, they're still human beings.
It's a disservice, really, when we put celebrated people on a pedestal and don't allow them to be human. It's a very lonely experience for the individual. It's not a sustainable way to live. I think that happens to a lot of people who find themselves thrust into the spotlight. Life becomes a little distorted for them."

Thompson had no regrets about their romance.
"I absolutely adored him. And I still feel a connection to his soul because he was such a good human being and a charismatic figure. I got to know him very intimately as a human being, not just Elvis Presley the icon.
I still feel that and there's a raw spot in my heart when I see him or hear him sing. I have to stop what I'm doing and just remember the great love that we shared. That doesn't go away. That stays in the heart forever."

Scottish brewers wins battle with EPE over "Elvis Juice": Back in 2017 Scottish brewers BrewDog were banned them from calling one of their bestsellers "Elvis Juice" with EPE demanding the Scottish brewers change the name of the drink. However after a three-year battle the firm has overturned a ruling banning them from using the name and the order to pay Presley's estate £1,500 in costs has been scrapped.
BrewDog founders James Watt and Martin Dickie even changed their names by deed poll to Elvis in a bid to prove the name was not exclusive.
They insisted their beer had no connection to the singer and suggested there ought to be 'a little less conversation and more time enjoying our beer'.
The Elvis estate said the application overlapped with their registered trade mark 'Elvis' and people could mistakenly believe that the beer was endorsed by them.
The UK Intellectual Property Office (IPO), which rules on trade mark disputes, found in favour of the estate last June but Brewdog appealed the decision.

'This is Elvis' UK Review: The musical 'This is Elvis: From Burbank To Vegas' is playing at UK's Theatre Royal Windsor until next Saturday.

Elvis's plaintive question might be uncomfortable for fans to hear but Bill Kenwright's latest production shows the vulnerable side of The King of Rock'n'Roll.
Much more than a tribute show, This Is Elvis is set in the Sixties and the times they are a-changin' for the singer.
Poised to perform in his first live TV show on an NBC special, he's racked with self-doubt. Chatting with his band backstage, he's insecure and edgy - avoiding calls from wife Priscilla, ducking away from his manager 'Colonel' Tom Parker, and feeling out of touch with modern music audiences who go wild only 'if you've got a Liverpool accent'.
Stephen Michaels looks the part of Presley and certainly sounds like him to, armed with a soft Southern accent in the acting vignettes and a powerful pair of lungs for the song.
Backed by 10 talented musicians and three great backing singers, soon the 14 musicians are raising the roof in at NBC in what would come to be known as The '68 Comeback Special'.
Elvis classics like Heartbreak Hotel and Love Me Tender had the Windsor audience swaying in their seats.

his pain over his mother's death. Michaels brought out the sadness and confusion of the man who lived as both a pauper and The King.
I never knew that the singer stood up for civil rights, insisting that his trio The Sweet Inspirations, who were black, should play with him in Vegas.
"Music doesn't care if you're black or white, north or south, rich or poor."
The act ends with a searing Bridge Over Troubled Water, a funky version of Get Back and stunning gospel in Oh Happy Day.
The second act sees Elvis at the International Hotel and ready to Viva Las Vegas if it kills him. The hits come thick and fast: In The Ghetto, Blue Suede Shoes, Always on My Mind, King Creole. the audience was jumping like catfish on a pole.
Everyone was on their feet by the end, all thoughts of Elvis's blue moments blown away.
I didn't know whether this would be another jukebox musical but I came away intrigued and inspired by Elvis Aron Presley. Long Live the King.

Scottish Elvis Party At Prestwick: Over 200 Elvis fans were All Shook Up when they converged on Prestwick International Airport to pay homage to the King.
The Elvis Touch - the Glasgow branch of the Official Elvis Presley Fan Club - held their annual birthday tribute to the late king of rock 'n roll on January 13.
Every year the event is hosted at the airport which is a mecca for fans of the legendary singer as it was the only place in the UK he visited after his aircraft stopped to re-fuel on the way home from military service in Germany.
Revellers were treated to an electrifying set of songs performed by Elvis in the band's own style, which included Johnny B Goode, Baby Let's Play House, A Fool Such As I and a Whole Lotta Shakin Goin On.
Irvine man Paul Downie, who organised the event said: "We had more people along than in the last couple of years, Elvis is still the King."
It was March 2, 1960 that Elvis was mobbed by screaming fans as plane stops at Prestwick Airport, Scotland..
Elvis chatted to the fans for a few moments then walked into the terminal buildings. Inside the terminal building the singer told them that he was looking forward to seeing his family again.
He said his plans for the future, "Well, I want to see my friends and relatives before I do anything"
There will be more movies. But Elvis said: "I would like to branch out and do something more serious. But nothing like Shakespeare . . . I know my limitations."

'Elvis: The Bicentennial Show' 1976' FTD In-Depth Review: 1976 is not an easy Elvis live-in-concert year to review. There were no major set-list changes, no dramatic "emotional roller-coaster" of 1974 and no high-flying "Huntsville" 1975 excitements. Apart from the exceptional blast of the final December 1976 Tour the year was the inevitable downward spiral.

Neil Diamond Retires from Touring: Neil Diamond, who turns 77 on Wednesday, has cancelled his 50th anniversary Australian shows and retired from performing due to a diagnosis of Parkinson's disease.
He usually tours with Elvis' drummer Ronnie Tutt in his band.
The shows will not go ahead as Diamond reluctantly bowed out permanently from live performances.
His upcoming Australian and New Zealand shows would have been the third leg of a 50th anniversary tour.
The onset of Parkinson's disease has made it difficult for Diamond to travel and perform, but he plans to continue writing, recording and developing projects.
"My thanks goes out to my loyal and devoted audiences around the world," he said. "You will always have my appreciation for your support and encouragement. This ride has been 'so good, so good, so good' thanks to you."

On Sunday, the Recording Academy will honour Diamond with its prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award.
Throughout his extraordinary career, he has had 11 singles reach the top of the charts, and been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the Songwriters Hall of Fame.
Elvis recorded two Neil Diamond songs 'And The Grass Won't Pay No Mind' and performed 'Sweet Caroline' multiple times in concert.

'Irving Berlin and White Christmas' the discussion continues: Last week EIN reader "T Anderson" wrote in wanting to know more about Shane Brown's 'Irving Berlin and White Christmas' spotlight.
He raised a few more queries about this infamous story including..
- The signed picture that Elvis sent to Berlin worded to lessen hostility. This gives credence to the story about Berlin's anger over Elvis's recording.
- Elvis' Christmas Album was definitely controversial in 1957, and I'm sure Berlin didn't like the performance by Elvis.
- The lack of reporting of this story elsewhere means nothing. This was at a time when powerful people could stop stories from being published. Berlin certainly had a lot of power.
- The "firing" of DJ Al Priddy may have actually been a "suspension".

2018 Australian Elvis Festival biggest yet: Parkes Elvis Festival director Cathy Treasure said that while they haven't had a chance to crunch any official numbers more people attended this year's festival than the 25,000 who attended in 2017.
She estimated that $15 million would be generated into the local economy this year.
Elvis fans from around Australia and around the world congregated in Parkes for five action-packed days of live music, special events, talks and more, kicking off on Wednesday and running until Sunday.
From Ballarat to Burke, the UK, Japan, Canada and Singapore, fans travelled to rock around the clock and celebrate the King himself.
While bejeweled jumpsuits, Priscilla Presley outfits and poodle skirts are usually the way to go for a Parkes Elvis Festival - there were some very brave fans who rocked leather in the 40 degree heat on Friday for the '68 Comeback themed festival this year.

A heavy contingency of celebrity fans also joined in the festivities including model and author Tara Moss, former Olympic swimmer Lisa Curry and rock legend Phil Emmanuel and acclaimed music journalist Glenn A. Baker.
"Parkes Elvis Festival has grown over the years into a truly king-sized celebration and a globally recognised bucket-list event," Ms Treasure said.
A big difference she noticed this year was how much the crowd was spread out across town and how festival goers remained in the park longer on the last day of the event.
"We had a new competition in the park on the Sunday - the unplugged session which involved no backing and no costumes. There was some amazing talent in that unplugged session, I was nearly brought to tears," Ms Treasure said.
The Elvis Street Parade on Saturday saw over 10,000 people line the streets to enjoy over 170 Elvis-themed floats, vintage cars, motorcycles, walking groups and marching bands.
In 2019 Parkes Elvis Festival will celebrate its 27th year with the theme "All Shook Up"

The HBO documentary ELVIS PRESLEY: THE SEARCHER debuts Saturday, APRIL 14 (8:00–11:00 p.m. ET/PT) on HBO.
This three-hour, two-film presentation focuses on Elvis Presley the musical artist, taking the audience on a comprehensive creative journey from his childhood through the final 1976 Jungle Room recording sessions. The films include stunning atmospheric shots taken inside Graceland, Elvis’ iconic home, and feature more than 20 new, primary source interviews with session players, producers, engineers, directors and other artists who knew him or who were profoundly influenced by him. The documentary also features never-before-seen photos and footage from private collections worldwide, and includes an original musical score composed by Pearl Jam lead guitarist Mike McCready.
As previously announced by SXSW, Priscilla Presley, David Porter (legendary Memphis music writer and producer), Thom Zimny (director), Jon Landau (producer) and moderator John Jackson (SVP A&R, Sony Music) will discuss the film, the cultural impact of Elvis’ music and how that impact became the embodiment of rock’n’roll at the 2018 SXSW Festival in March. The panel is expected to cover:

Well, we were standing in the buffet line at Piccadilly about last Fall and Haywood came in immediately behind us. Asked what I was doing these days and I told him: publishing Elvis World magazine, and Haywood began rattling off his encounter with Elvis and it's one of those "only Elvis" stories. We made a mental note to contact Haywood "soon" and get the full details for a future issue of EW. ALSO, three months before Elvis died, I had pretty reliable reports Elvis was dating a girl named Debbie and was told she was working as a bank teller on EP Blvd.

For months I'd go into this and that bank and to this and that teller and ask for change for a dollar, looking at the nameplates of each teller, trying to find this "Debbie." Never did. Then came the trial of Dr. Nick (that ended up with his losing his license) ... and I was looking at the list of witnesses and saw a "Debbie Watts" listed for the next day's hearings.
Not putting two and two together instantly, I called George Klein to ask who this Debbie Watts was and he said "You ought to know her. You played baseball with her father at South Side." Haywood Watts?! Debbie Watts?!! Father/daughter? |

So, IN that Piccadilly line, I told Haywood I'd like to come to his house and do the interview and, if possible, have Debbie sit in with us; telling him what had been reported to me in 1977 and he assured me that was true. Well, only DAYS after that dinner, Haywood Watts was rushed to the hospital where it was discovered he had contracted a serious case of Diabetes 2 ... and that "maybe" they would have to amputate one or both feet. Haywood went into instant deep depression and, regretfully, I never followed up on his problem. He wound up losing only one big toe, but last week, still in depression, I was told, he was in his front yard and keeled over dead with a heart attack. I attended Haywood's funeral ... as I do as many Scrapper funerals as possible ... and I let Debbie know I'd still like to talk with her whenever she feels like it. That may be soon, later, or never ... but at least we're going to TRY! Haywood, like me, signed a professional baseball contract with the St. Louis Cardinals. Whereas he played 2 years of minor league ball before getting hurt, I never reported -- opting at the last minute to devote all of my time to flying (and coaching kids' baseball on the side)."

More info from the book: Edward George Klein, Sr. was married to Ida Watts Klein. Ida had two sisters and two brothers, one of whom was named Haywood Watts. Mr. Haywood Oren Watts would marry Evelyn Lee and one of their children: Deborah Gail Watts. The late Bill Burk referred to her (in an EIN news article, May 2005) as “Debbie” — which biographer Alanna Nash does, as well — whilst the Memphis Press-Scimitar went with “Debra” in 1973. FTD will NOT end in 2019: A fair number of uninformed supposed Elvis "insiders" (even some Fan Club Presidents) have been publishing fictional stories that the FTD label is planning to close in 2019.
Ernst Jorgensen had strongly denied this story stating, that FTD has plans to continue for the foreseeable future.
In an interesting interview about 'The Future of FTD' - with Trevor Cajiao in the recent ETM&HM magazine - Ernst Jorgensen's main points were....
1. FTD will not be closing in 2019
2. The 'Classic Albums" series is nearly complete but there are more to come, noting 'Aloha' and 'Madison Square Garden' are still to be done.
3. Expanded "complete session tapes" releases are being considered
4. Plenty more soundboards to come

UPDATED - Trying To Get To You: The Truth Behind The Elvis And Roy Orbison Show Rumours: For decades there has always been an unsubstantiated rumour that Elvis Presley appeared as a guest on Roy Orbison's TV show on the local station KOSA.
The Roy Orbison website notes that both Johnny Cash and Elvis Presley performed on Roy’s TV show in late 1955.
Respected author Colin Escott wrote in his book Good Rockin’ Tonight about a kinescope of Elvis on the Roy Orbison TV show actually existing.
Some keen Elvis fans have said that they have seen this very kinescope at Elvis Week shows back in the 80s.
But like infamous Pied Piper of Cleveland does this footage really exist and is there any real proof that Elvis did appear on the Roy Orbison TV show?

"The Wonder Of You" 2018 Australia Tour changes: The "Back By Popular Demand" 2018 'Wonder Of You' Australian tour has been majorly altered by the local producers RCM Touring. They are no longer in April 2018 as planned and the locally-anticipated show in the new venue of Newcastle, NSW has been cancelled completely.
Now there are only the two shows in Sydney and Melbourne and the dates have been moved to August 2018, presumably to help link up with the excitement of Elvis Week.
Elvis will beam down from 'state of the art' video screens to give fans the closest possible experience to seeing The King "ELVIS" perform live.

Caveat Emptor (Buyer Beware) - Exposing the Amazon Elvis Book Rip-Off?: From RCA to Sony Elvis' back catalog has long been exploited at the expense of his legacy. The same thing is now happening regarding Elvis book releases!
Through clever marketing, including the use of different (but suspicious) author names and different book titles for releases which are essentially identical; short and long book editions; and coupling the Elvis story with that of other celebrities, a glut of Elvis related book titles (with repetitive text) only available from Amazon are blatantly misleading fans.

| Interview - Elvis 02 Exhibition - Angie Marchese, Graceland Director of Archives: Following the success of the 2014/15 Elvis at the O2 exhibition, which attracted a staggering 200,000 visitors, Graceland have decided to return to London’s O2 Arena with the Elvis on Tour The Exhibition. The focus this time has been narrowed down to the period from 1969 – 1977 and over 200 items are included from the Graceland archive, including over 35 outfits, costume sketches and guitars that Elvis used onstage.
Zoey Goto, author of Elvis Style: From Zoot Suits to Jumpsuits visited the exhibition to meet with Graceland’s director of archives, Angie Marchese to discuss how the show was put together and Elvis’ unique style. Angie also discusses who had creative control of Elvis' on-stage fashions, the "must-see" item of the Exhibition and other artists that have been influenced by Elvis' striking fashion sense.

'Elvis: Lake Tahoe '74' FTD In-Depth Review: 'ELVIS: Lake Tahoe ‘74' features another value-for-money double pack with two Dinner Shows from May 25 and May 26 1974. This a 2-CD 5” digipack release.
The setlist at Lake Tahoe this season was fine, and while the May 25, 1974 Dinner Show has been out as an audience recording, the May 26, 1974 Dinner Show is totally unreleased.
Although both concerts are "Dinner Shows" on May 26, with The Jackson 5 in the audience, Elvis was inspired and included several rarities - and pushed the band on with unexpected reprises.
Both concerts create a good combination - making this a great two-for-one release from FTD.

Session by session, song by song, Reconsider Baby takes the reader on a journey from Elvis’s first recordings in 1953 through to his last performances in 1977.

Millie Kirkham - Bob Hayden Interview for EIN: Millie Kirkham was one of Elvis' favourite back-up singers. Upon hearing her vocal on Ferlin Husky’s million selling 1957 hit record 'Gone' Elvis asked her to join in with The Jordanaires at his 1957 recording session. Millie Kirkham would work on Elvis' studio sessions through to 1967 and join him on-stage in Las Vegas for live performances including 1970's 'That's The Way It Is' filming.
As well as working with Elvis, Millie Kirkham worked closely with the Jordanaires on some of the most famous Nashville sessions including records by George Jones, Patsy Cline, Bobby Vinton, Jim Reeves, Charley Pride and Loretta Lynn.
Millie Kirkham was a little reluctant at first to do an interview as she had been mis-quoted in the past and had that fear of it happening again. She agreed to the Q & A after she was advised she would not be coming to Australia for the first "Elvis in Concert" tour.
Millie answered every question and seemed to be most happy and full of life for her age at that time.

‘ELVIS: Studio Sessions 1956' In-Depth Review: MRS newest release, a massive 3CD/172 page book compilation "Elvis Studio Sessions ‘56 The Complete Recordings". 'Roustabout' FTD Soundtrack Review: Roustabout was Elvis' 16th movie, it had been five months since Elvis’ last album session and his publishers had a chance to secure soundtrack material from a variety of composers. Eleven songs were needed and while the carnival theme stopped most of them having any inspired lyrics, at least the composers Leiber / Stoller and Otis Blackwell were included in the selection.
Reaching #1 on Billboard in early 1965, it would Elvis’ last chart topping album until "Aloha From Elvis Via Satellite" in 1973.
53 years after its original release FTD is pleased to announce the long awaited "Classic Album" version of "Roustabout". Packaged in 7" format with a full colour 16-page memorabilia booklet, it contains some previously unreleased material.
So why has it taken FTD so long to release? It was once noted that only the masters had been located in the vaults, so there was not much to include for a “Classic Album”...

Mindi Miller Interview with EIN: Mindi Miller was a working actress when she met Elvis in early 1975. She was interested in karate (she performed all her own movie stunts), exploring spirituality and the Bible and so they had a lot in common.
Mindi Miller and Elvis bonded over their common interests and soon afterwards he asked her to go on tour with him in April 1975.
She stayed friends with Elvis through the years - along with members of the 'Memphis Mafia' - and attended his funeral.

'Platinum: A Life In Music' Re-Release OUT NOW: Sony UK has re-released the classic 4-Cd set 'Platinum: A Life In Music'- in a small-book format twenty years after its first release in 1997.
The set chronicles the outstanding career of Elvis Presley (1954 to 1977) from a unique perspective and it includes 100 performances, 77 of which were previously unreleased in 1997. This historic overview traces his development as an artist and emphasizes how Elvis' music always returned to its unshakable core values. This 4-CD box set contains a 48-page book and consists mostly of previously unreleased alternate takes of Elvis Presley's hits.
There is no info on whether this 20th anniversary release includes audio upgrades of all the "77 were previously unreleased takes" which have since been remastered.

'Marty Lacker: A Life Well-Lived' & Elvis at American Studio's Interview: It was with immense sadness that last month EIN had to report on the death of our great friend - and a true friend to Elvis - Marty Lacker. We will miss him dearly.
Marty is well-known as one of the key members of the Memphis Mafia and also co-Best Man at Elvis' wedding. He was known for both his honesty and being forthright with his opinions. He was the only member of the Memphis Mafia who still watched and commented on recent Elvis News. He had no issue with holding people to account (especially ones who would inflate their importance within Elvis' legacy) and would regularly ask EIN to add his comments or to correct any inaccuracy.
Elvis fans often ask about Marty Lacker's background, how he came to meet Elvis, as well as his involvement in the music industry outside of working for The King.

UPDATED - 'Way Down In The Jungle Room' EIN Review: Released for August 2016 this SONY Legacy pack celebrates the 40th anniversary of Elvis’ last recording sessions which took place in Graceland’s Jungle Room.
The publicity noted the sessions “have been newly mixed by Matt Ross-Spang at Sam Phillips Recording” and “includes both outtakes and in-the-studio dialog, providing a ‘fly-on-the-wall experience’ of what the sessions were like".
Elvis' original 76/77 albums were fairly uninspired collections (bar a few fine singles) and on the original LPs it was almost impossible to glimpse any sign of creative input from Elvis through the syrupy overdubs. It wasn't until the release of FTD’s magnificent ‘The Jungle Room Sessions’ that many fans began to understand the raw emotion, close camaraderie and Elvis’ personal feelings that were revealed by these intimate Graceland sessions.
To produce that same kind of revelation for the 'General Public' would be a very tricky project but that is exactly what the new legacy team has done - and to great effect.

Did Elvis Record 'Tiger Man' At Sun?: A question that has puzzled Elvis fans through the years is whether he actually recorded the song ‘Tiger Man’ during his years at SUN studios.
The basic question is why did Elvis refer to 'Tiger man' several times in concert as “The second song that I ever recorded, not too many people heard it”?
And if Elvis DID record it, then why hasn’t any reference to it at SUN or proof of its existence been found?
Elvis would first perform ‘Tiger Man’ in concert at his first 1969 Las Vegas International season and would continue playing it through the years – usually in a medley with Mystery Train - until his last performance at Saginaw on May 3 1977. He would sing it over 150 times on stage!
