Nashville Elvis Festival cancelled 2021: "In an abundance of caution" the Nashville Elvis Festival has announced that it will take a pause in 2021.
We will return in 2022, bigger and better than ever. We look forward to seeing you there!
The Nashville Elvis Festival is usually in March and celebrates the music and legacy of Elvis Presley.
It is produced by Tom Brown and Brian Mayes for Music City Festivals, LLC.

Composer Geoff Stephens Dead aged 86: British composer Geoff Stephens died December 24 aged 86. A prolific songwriter Elvis recorded his songs, 'Heart Of Rome', 'This Is Our Dance', and 'Sylvia', hardly Elvis' best work.
Geoff Stephens had major chart hits in the UK and worldwide, often collaborating with others.
Hits included the 1966 #1 'Winchester Cathedral', 'The Crying Game', 'There's a Kind of Hush' (Carpenters, Herman's Hermits), David Soul's #1 'Silver Lady' and many others.
His songs for Elvis were Freddy Bienstock supplied and Geoff Stephens realised that Elvis had little interest in them.
He told Ken Sharp for 'Writing for The King', "It was a great feeling to know that Elvis had recorded some of my songs and he performed them well enough. But there was a spark missing somehow.
It sounded as though they were just fulfilling record company demands without giving a great deal of thought to the recordings. I'm not sure Elvis connected with any of my songs. From what I have heard and read, Elvis did whatever The Colonel asked without questioning."

'From Memphis to Taipeh': The book 'From Memphis to Taipei - A Reference Guide to the Colorful Magic of Elvis' Asian Vinyl' by Dick Dekker ('Bootleg Elvis' book) and Ferry Van Der Werf should be published next month, January 2021. The limited print run is 750 copies worldwide.
It was in the late 1950s that the first Asian records featuring Elvis' music were released. Hundreds of records followed afterwards many with beautiful covers in different variations and with beautifully coloured vinyl. However no collector's guide to Elvis' Asian vinyl has ever been published. There has never even been an information booklet on these Elvis albums.
So this new book is the very first reference guide to Elvis' vinyl releases in Asia.
This volume examinest the 10" and 12" vinyl releases from six major Asian countries: Hong Kong, Malaysia, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan and Thailand.
In the book fans can discover where, why and for whom these records were made. And there were plenty of Elvis fans.
The cover images and label designs are presented in large format so you can check the design and often the interesting spelling mistakes.

David Bowie’s Christmas impression of Elvis: In a neat coincidence David Bowie and Elvis have the same birthday, January 8th.
Bowie was a keen fan of Elvis, performed Elvis songs in concert and said of Elvis, “Elvis was a major hero of mine. And I was probably stupid enough to believe that having the same birthday as him actually meant something."
David Bowie's first wife Angie said that Bowie could do a “devastating impersonation of Elvis".
So back in 2013 it was no surprise when David Bowie delivered his own Christmas message from the USA in character as Elvis, including the cool, Thank-You-Very-Much.
Bowie joked, "Hello everybody this is David Bowie making a telephone call from the US of A. At this time of the year I can’t help but remember my British-ness and all the jolly British folk, so here’s to you and have yourselves a Merry Little Christmas and a Happy New Year, “Thank you very much.”!

Paul McCartney, "Elvis was the Coolest Person I Ever Met": Discounting his third wife Nancy Shevell, Paul McCartney recently revealed that thinks ELVIS was the 'Coolest Person' he had ever met.
The Beatles and Elvis only ever met once on 27th August 1965 sadly under mutual agreement that no photos or recordings would be made.
In a new interview on The Adam Buxton Podcast, Paul McCartney was asked to name the coolest person he ever met.
He replied, "My wife Nancy she is very cool, however speaking like that if I had to choose I’d have to do Elvis. I met Elvis Presley who was darn cool, this was pre his Las Vegas and the rhinestone suit period, this was just sort of Beverly Hills sixties. And he was really cool."
Other than calling him super-cool, McCartney also explained about Elvis’ influence on The Beatles music and not only at the start. After

they stopped touring it was Elvis who helped inspire their iconic 'Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band'. McCartney said, "We came back after touring and we started to think, ‘What can we do, we don’t want to tour again’. We heard that Elvis Presley had sent his gold-plated Cadillac out on tour. He didn’t go with it, he just sent it out. And people would flock to see Elvis’ Cadillac, and then it would go to the next town and those people would flock. So we thought, ‘That is brilliant! Only Elvis could have thought of that.’ We said, ‘Well, what we should do is, we should make a killer record and that can do the touring for us.’ So that’s what creating Sgt. Pepper was all about.

Elvis and Linda Thompson At Christmas: It is close to fifty years ago that Elvis started dating Linda Thompson. This week Linda, now 70, has shared some of her Graceland Christmas photos via instagram.
She commented that..
"This is a photo of our first Christmas together, and he had given me this coat, along with a beautiful platinum and diamond ring that I found in the coat pocket at his urging. He had taken the diamond from one of his rings and had it mounted in the beautiful ballerina ring he had designed & made for me. Christmas was his very favorite time of year… Because he was so inordinately generous, and he derived so much joy in giving to others. Elvis was so incredibly generous that we called him the real Santa Claus. Of course Christmas always reminds me of Elvis’s generous spirit and sensitivity to this special time of year."

A Tribute to William Speer: In July 1955 a 20 year old Elvis Presley arrived at Memphis photographer William Speer's doorstep. He had been sent by his manager Bob Neal to have some photos taken that could be used in the promotion of the rising star.
The session produced eleven portrait shots that have obtained iconic status..
"Elvis had an electric charge, an animal magnetism", William Speer noted.

Elvis' Graceland Birthday Celebrations: Graceland will be celebrating Elvis' 86th birthday on January 7-9, 2021, with three days of events - including the annual Elvis Birthday Proclamation Ceremony on January 8, a Birthday Celebration “Elvis Unplugged” Concert featuring singer and musician Dean Z, exclusive tours and more. Events will be held in accordance with the Shelby County Health Department COVID-19 protocols will apply with socially distanced seating at events.
Festivities begin on January 7 with a dinner and a movie at the Guest House, featuring the fan favorite movie “Blue Hawaii.” Later that evening “Gates of Graceland” Host Tom Brown and Graceland’s VP of Archives and Exhibits Angie Marchese, will lead an exclusive, after-hours tour of Graceland Mansion. This one-of-a-kind experience will provide a glimpse of items not seen on regular tours.
On Elvis’ birthday January 8, the annual Elvis Birthday Proclamation Ceremony will take place in the Graceland Soundstage in Elvis Presley’s Memphis.

‘From Elvis in Nashville’ Box-set EIN In-Depth Review:
A 4CD collection presenting the definitive chronicle of Elvis' 1970 marathon sessions with the "Nashville Cats".
Recorded live in RCA's Studio B over the course of an epic five day run in June 1970 now, for the first time, the sessions are presented in pristine audio, newly mixed by acclaimed engineer Matt Ross-Spang without the added overdubs appearing on earlier releases.
Elvis’ 1970 Nashville session was very different from the previous Memphis sessions or even Elvis’ later sessions. Nashville was a real mix of Elvis recording RCA supplied demos along with one-take spontaneous favourites Elvis threw into the mix.
As Elvis noted, "It don't take much to get these guys going, boy, I'll tell you…. Just give them a "well..." and they're gone. That's what I call 'Sittin' on ready".

News regarding the new REX MARTIN DVDs: EIN has been contacted by several readers wanting us to confirm the authenticity of these new 'Rex Martin' dvd releases.
Back in August 2013 EIN reported the sad burglary of Rex Martin's home just after he died. At the time we noted,"After Rex died, someone entered Rex's home and removed some personal items as well as the core of Rex's Elvis Collection. Since there was no sign of a break-in, it is believed that this person or persons had access to a key to the property. It is also evident that whoever did this had inside knowledge as to what Rex's rare Elvis Collection consisted of, where it was stored and where he kept his personal belongings.
Anyone seeing Rex Martin items offered especially SUPER 8 for sale PLEASE contact Rex Martin's family via his website Moments In Time."
Sadly EIN cannot confirm where these tapes have come from, although super-fan photographer Phil Gelormine has commented that it was he that filmed Elvis' College Park concert, NOT Rex Martin. "I would like to find a guy who is falsely claiming that these are all from the Super 8 reels of Rex Martin. Many of the shows advertised I have attended but I haven’t seen these two DVDs yet but I can unequivocally tell you that the College Park footage is mine and I have the original reel to prove it. The underground Elvis market is very devious and I have been stolen from before but as long as I have breath in me, I will seek credit, compensation and an apology."
The Bootleg Elvis world is sometimes a worrying place. Buyer Beware.

'Elvis and Nixon' 50th Anniv New Graceland Exhibit: Graceland has opened a new exhibit to commemorate Elvis' meeting with President Nixon 50 years ago on December 21, 1970.
Graceland unveiled the new pop-up exhibit, among the artifacts displayed are the five-page handwritten letter from Elvis to Nixon, the outfit Elvis wore to the Oval Office, the Presidential cufflinks given to him as a gift from the President and the badge presented to him.
Elvis was an enthusiastic collector of police badges and the owner of dozens from departments and agencies from all over the United States. But there was one badge that he really wanted: a badge from the Bureau of Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs. So, in December of 1970 he flew from Memphis to Washington, D.C. with his friend Jerry Schilling to hand deliver a letter he wrote while on the plane, to President Nixon at the White House. In the letter he offered his services in the war on drugs, as a “Federal Agent at Large.”

Elvis' arrival at the White House gates on December 21, 1970 proved effective. Following some confusion from the Secret Service and White House staff, after a few hours he had the meeting with President Nixon, gifted him with a Colt .45 pistol and asked for the badge he so wanted to own. Nixon obliged, they had their photograph taken, and the next day Elvis returned to Graceland.
The official photo of this unusual event has become the most requested in the history of the National Archives.

Rare Elvis related book attracts strong bidding on ebay: One of the hardest to find Elvis books is the softcover, The King Is Dead The Funeral of Elvis Presley by Robert Holton. Originally published in 1998 as a 1,000 limited edition, it was re-released in 2004. On both occasions the book proved elusive to find. While a few copies of the 2004 edition have sold on ebay, we had to wait until last week for a copy of the original 1998 edition to be listed. It attracted strong bidding from six parties (28 total bids) before selling for a whopping US$406.56 (A$540; 307 Pounds; 336 Euro).
The book details the account of Robert Kendall, the Funeral Director that Vernon Presley engaged to arrange Elvis’ funeral, including, at very short notice, sourcing a coffin matching the one Gladys Presley had been buried in. The moment-by-moment account of how Elvis’ funeral was arranged explains things that others have uncritically and opportunistically developed into/promoted as wild conspiracy theory.

Elvis and punk rock – Bono (U2): Lead singer of U2, Bono, made this interesting comment about Elvis’ significance: ‘The best quote I ever read about Elvis was on a toilet wall in the Dockers Pub, Dublin, in the late 70s, just as punk rock was just blooming. “Elvis is alive, we’re dead,” it proclaimed. I’m not sure punk would existed without him. In fact I’m not sure a lot of things existed without him."

(Book Review) 'Technicolor to Black & White' (Jean-Marie Pouzenc): The latest ‘coffee table” multi-media” (book, CD and 10” vinyl) set from Jean-Marie Pouzenc continues his history of producing fan pleasing, high quality, releases!
Focusing on Elvis’ film career in France it is a wonderfully expressive record of its subject and offers a neatly balanced package between its narrative, visual, archival and audio elements.
Elvis didn’t incarnate almost supernatural heroes, he was you and he was all of us. He played an everyday guy, an ordinary character with a job....(Jean-Marie Pouzenc)

“Elvis wasn’t the world’s greatest singer, but he had a sound”: So said Chips Moman in the recently published biography, Chips Moman The Record Producer Whose Genius Changed American Music. Written by James L. Dickerson (who also wrote That’s Alright Elvis with Scotty Moore, and Colonel Tom Parker The Curious Life of Elvis Presley’s Eccentric Manager), the book is a thoroughly entertaining and detailed account of Moman’s career. The chapter on Elvis’ legendary American Sound Studio sessions and the procession of other stars passing through Moman’s studio is more than impressive. Apart from Elvis there was Dusty Springfield, Dionne Warwick, Booker T. Jones, B. J. Thomas, Neil Diamond, Willie Nelson, Wilson Pickett, The Gentrys, Sandy Posey, Jerry Lee Lewis, Johnny Cash, Carl Perkins, Carla Thomas, and Bobby Womack..... just to name a few.
There are many fascinating accounts in the book, including the scandal caused by Petula Clark touching Harry Belafonte on national television and how Ms Clark and her husband erased (nearly) all the takes of the scene.

Rex Martin (Worldwide Elvis News) exclusive EIN Interview: It was in 2008, that EIN tracked down the ellusive Rex Martin who had been keeping away from the Elvis scene for quite a few years. Nigel Patterson spent several hours talking with Rex Martin publisher of the legendary publication, the Worldwide Elvis News Service Weekly.
The result was a fascinating multi-part interview. In Part 1 Rex speaks about his early years, becoming an Elvis fan, why he started the fondly remembered weekly, his trips to the US and what he has been doing since he ceased publishing the Weekly in 1978.
For those not familar with Rex's publications, the "Weekly" revolutionised how fans right around the world received their Elvis news while his Elvis booklets (see opposite) offered well researched and rare material for readers to enjoy. The home videos he managed to film of Elvis would impress any fan.

Elvis' Honeymoon House Sold for $2.5million+: Elvis and Priscilla's former honeymoon home has finally be sold. The Palm Springs, California home was recently swooped off the market by a mystery buyer.
"It's scheduled to close today," listing broker Scott Histed told The New York Post on Monday. He revealed that there were "several offers on it," and the highest was above the $2.5 million asking price.
This 5,000-square-foot mid-century modern pad is where Elvis and Priscilla Presley periodically stayed during the years of 1966 and 1967. It's also where they spent their honeymoon following their May 1, 1967 wedding, as noted on the home’s landmark page. Born exactly |

nine months after their wedding day, the couple's first daughter, Lisa Marie Presley, is rumored to have been conceived here. While the home is long out of the Presley family's hands, its rich history and standout design did inspire two suites at the Guest House at Graceland.
Besides the home's connection to one of the most iconic rock stars of all time, its futuristic design has also made it a Palm Springs landmark. Built in 1960 by Robert Alexander, its architecture consists of a number of different shapes and structures.
In fact, the property was dubbed Look Magazine’s 1962 "House of Tomorrow."
The house has been listed 10 times over the past six years with the original asking price of $9.5 Million!
In November this year the price was reduced to $2.5 million and the house is finally sold.

(Book Review) Destined to Die Young (Sally Hoedel): Could Elvis’ death at the young age of 42 have been avoided? This question is answered in Sally Hoedel’s thought provoking book, Destined to Die Young.
The book is the result of exhaustive research by the author who found a key factor which was to affect Elvis throughout his life – one which meant that regardless of his diet and overuse of prescription medication, he was destined to die young. The narrative is full and colorful, and its depth of detail reflects the extent of research undertaken by the author.
In her introduction, the author establishes an important context for Elvis’ longevity (or lack of longevity) and health issues, this being his family tree.... Hoedel identifies the genetic disorder as Antitrypsin Deficiency, a condition which can result in lung and/or liver disease. In this respect, her discussion of the life and death of Gladys Presley is thought provoking..

Charley Pride country superstar dead: In very sad news Charley Pride, the first black country-music superstar, died Saturday and tragically of complications from COVID-19. He was 86.
The trailblazer charted 29 #1 hits and another 21 Top 10 singles between the 1960s and 1980s, including "Is Anybody Goin' to San Antone" and "Mountain of Love."
Pride enjoyed his greatest success in the 1970s, becoming the best-selling performer for RCA Records after Elvis Presley with over 70 million records sold..
His final performance was on Nov. 11, when he received the Country Music Association's Lifetime Achievement Award at Nashville's Music City Center. He brought down the house with his hit "Kiss An Angel Good Mornin'."
One of 11 children born to a sharecropper in Sledge, Mississippi, Pride served in the Army, worked at a Missouri smelting plant, and tried several times to break into big-league baseball before moving to Nashville in 1963.
He recorded demo tapes soon afterward, but it was years before Chet Atkins signed him to a contract with RCA. |

Pride won three 1972 Grammys for a gospel single and a 1973 Grammy for best male country vocal performance.
In 2000, he became the first black performer elected to the Country Music Hall of Fame.
In 1967, Pride became the first black performer to appear at the Grand Ole Opry in more than a quarter century.
Country music legend Dolly Parton noted, "I'm so heartbroken that one of my dearest and oldest friends, Charley Pride, has passed away. It's even worse to know that he passed away from COVID-19. What a horrible, horrible virus. Charley, we will always love you."
Elvis and Charley Pride were friends and Elvis not only introduced him when Pride attended his shows but also sangs lines from his songs 'Kaw Liga' (a #3 in 1969) and 1968's 'The Easy Part's Over'.
Pride said of his RCA co-star Elvis, "We used to play the Houston Livestock Show. In fact, I went to two of Elvis' openings. The third opening I went to with him was 1971. That year, I won male vocalist and entertainer of the year. I was out in the audience.
Elvis said, ladies and gentleman, out in the audience is a (singing) "The Easy Part's Over now", the line in one of my singles - and he says, Charley Pride. So I waved and everything, and he invited us all up to the suites. Then I got up there, Lulu, and I walked all the way around all those 15 suites up there. I said, boy, this is a long way from picking cotton beside my dad...

1970 rehearsal cds was expensive at £180 but this set at £111 (US$240) for a 200-page book (not totally on Elvis) plus two 1976 soundboard concerts (with audio doco) seems ludicrous.
For super-keen Elvis fans who purchased the book when it was first released, this seems an unfair deal to have to buy it all again just for the 1976 soundboards.
Hopefully FTD see reason and release the soundboards as a separate double-pack after this limited edition package sells-out

What Elvis Presley’s televised polio vaccination can tell us about the shortfalls of celebrity-endorsed health campaigns: If you had tuned into the Ed Sullivan Show on October 28 1956, you would have witnessed an unexpected promoter of public health. Just before he took the stage to gyrate his way through his hit version of “Hound Dog”, the teenage heartthrob, Elvis Presley, received a polio vaccination live on television. The city’s health commissioner, there for the photo op, raved about Presley: “He is setting a fine example for the youth of the country.”
Indeed, young people were the problem. Polio was perceived as a disease of the child, not of the teenager. So when it was announced a year before Presley’s famous injection that the American virologist and medical researcher, Jonas Salk, had produced a vaccine that would stop the ravages of polio, initial distribution efforts were focused on infants and young children. Teenagers, however, were more difficult to convince. Presley’s on-air vaccination was meant to change all of this. If the king of rock and roll does it, they hoped a generation of teens would say, I will too!

As it turned out, there were many reasons teenagers – and others - came up with to defy their king and refuse vaccination. One of these was almost certainly the 1955 “Cutter incident”, in which improperly prepared doses of the vaccine produced at the Cutter Laboratories in Berkeley, California, reached the market containing live poliovirus. The ensuing outbreak did not improve public confidence. Another was the logistics of receiving the vaccine: three injections, each $3-5 (around $30-50 per jab in today’s money), was quite a commitment, especially for a population many did not consider to be urgently in need of immunisation. Indeed, the real game-changer came from the teenagers themselves, who, particularly in an association called Teens Against Polio, organised campaigns and sponsored the very popular (footwear optional) dances known as “sock-hops” for which immunisation was the price of admission.

as it has sometimes seemed. Individuals, then and now, are capable of being told by a celebrity to do something and, for all sorts of reasons, decline to do it. This was a fact not lost on those putting forward public health messages in the latter decades of the 20th century. Over time, celebrity endorsements of public health projects fell away in favour of subtler alternatives. One of these was the rise of medical educational entertainment, or “medutainment”. This involved the integration of public health messaging into narrative developments on popular medical television programmes.
In 2011, researchers in the US found that while only 24% of those surveyed had faith in what celebrities said about immunisation safety, over 70% had “a lot of trust” in their child’s doctor.

(New book) Kid of the King (Elaine Elizabeth Presley): Due out in Jan 2021, this release is the autobiography of Elaine Elizabeth Presley who claims to be the elder daughter of Elvis and Priscilla. Apart from her claim that Elvis and Priscilla are her parents, the book apparently also details the circumstances of a seven-year federal investigation about her including 20 federal court appearances, DNA evidence, and the involvement of Homeland Security, the FBI, the Army, and the Virginia governor.
Ms Presley has been active of social media for a number of years (Facebook) and has released a number of albums.
She is also prominent in charitable causes including raising money for veterans and establishing a home for children in Africa.
Ms Presley lives in Memphis.

‘The Jewish World of Elvis Presley’: The Berkshire Edge recently published an interesting interview with Roselle Kline Chartock author of new book ‘The Jewish World of Elvis Presley’.
In the interview she notes, "As I discovered, Elvis is the least prejudiced of people; considering his background, coming from the deep South, from a deeply religious fundamentalist Christian family, in an area where anti-Semitism was certainly present, he went above that and he discovered for himself that prejudice was evil.
Everything I do and teach has to do with education about the irrational nature of prejudice and how destructive it is and how all of the causes are very clear. Prejudice is an evil in this world and is also part of human nature, but it is something that we can diminish, to a certain extent, through education.
Nobody knows that [Elvis] was Jewish; I didn’t know this when I started the research, for goodness sake.... I remembered seeing Elvis in these plaid jackets and really wild clothes, and I thought: “Now there’s a guy who really knew how to dress.” Then I wondered, and I’m not sure why: “Who came up with all these outfits?”

So I put my glasses on and plugged into my phone: “Who was Elvis Presley’s tailor?” What came up was the Lansky Brothers in Memphis, and I remember thinking, “OMG, he had a Jewish tailor.” Come to find out, not only was Bernard Lansky and his brother Elvis’ tailor, but they were his friends. In fact, one of the most heartwarming stories in the book is about how Bernard Lansky came to know and love Elvis, it turned out that he not only clothed him through his whole life, but the suit that Elvis was buried in was from the Lansky Brothers clothing store. I was fascinated. The next morning I got to wondering if he had other Jewish friends, and that’s where it all began. It was like an onion ... every little piece that I took off [revealed] something else about his inner circle, his entourage (the Memphis Mafia), half of whom were Jewish.
BE: Is there a particularly surprising nugget you learned about Elvis while researching this book that stands out from the others?
RC: That Elvis had an affinity for Jews and Judaism, and the fact that he had so many Jewish friends; and thirdly that he was such a sensitive, philosophical, humane, unprejudiced person. What more can you learn? Such eye-opening things to learn about someone you just thought of as a swivel-hipped rock and roller. The image that I have tried to portray is of a very different side of Elvis Presley, and one that I admired tremendously. didn’t have any money, and then became the place he’d play racquetball in the middle of the night, when he became famous, so that no one would be around to bother him. My discovery that he not only had Jewish ancestry, but that he had best friends, he was very interested in Jewish literature and Jewish music, in Jewish philosophy.

Priscilla Sells her Beverly Hills home for $13 million: I'm sure she is not in dire financial straits but Priscilla Presley is certainly much better off this month as her Beverly Hills European-style mansion sold last week for US$13 million.
It was originally on the market last August for $16 million and was the first time the retreat had been on the market for 45 years.
In October, she dropped the price to $14.5 million.
Presley purchased the Italian-style villa in Beverly Hills a few years after her divorce from Elvis. She and Elvis maintained an amicable relationship after their split, and she wanted to live close to make it easier for him to visit their daughter, Lisa Marie. Elvis then lived nearby in Holmby Hills.
Priscilla said she loved there because, "Elvis stayed in the Holmby Hills home I found for us and I wanted to make sure his house was near to our daughter, Lisa Marie." -

New animated Elvis "Blue Christmas" Video: With the holiday season in full swing, the first animated official music video for Elvis Presley's yuletide classic "Blue Christmas" premiered this week at EPE's YouTube channel
The new clip follows a young man as he makes his way back to his apartment alone on Christmas after his plane flight was canceled, a young mother spending the holiday with her two children at their house while her husband is stationed on a naval ship, and an older couple who connect with a younger family member via computer while celebrating Christmas.
"Blue Christmas" was written during the late 1940s by Billy Hayes and Jay W. Johnson, and Elvis' version was first released on his Elvis Christmas Album,

which spent four weeks on the Billboard charts in late '57 and early '58.
Elvis' rendition was released as a single for the first time in 1964, and the tune hit #40 on the Billboard Hot 100 that year. -

Dolly Parton tells of another potential Elvis number one stopped by The Colonel: Back in 2004 EIN published this story below, a sad tale that Dolly Parton is still re-telling 16 years later..
(2004) Thirty years ago Elvis Presley asked a pretty blond country singer if he could record a love song she'd penned. The request for ‘I Will Always Love You’ in 1974 stirred Dolly Parton's blood. "I got so excited," she drawled wide-eyed, recounting the story for a packed house in Ontario, "I told everybody Elvis was doing it. I’d been invited down to the studio to meet Elvis and be there when he sang my song. That was the most exciting thing that had ever happened to me. Who doesn’t love Elvis?
But then Col Parker called me before the session and said ‘You do know we have to have at least half the publishing on any song that Elvis records?’

“And I said ‘No, I did not know that’. He said ‘Well, it’s just a rule’. So I said ‘Well, it’s not my rule’.”
Parton added: “And I cried all night long, ’cause I was so disappointed. It wasn’t Elvis, I loved Elvis. And I’m sure he was as disappointed as I was because he had it all worked up and ready to go. I know he loved the song.”
Speaking about Presley’s wife of six years, Parton said: “Priscilla told me later that he sang that song to her when they were coming down the steps of the courthouse after they divorced. That really touched me and I thought ‘Oh well, I can only imagine’. But it wasn’t his fault.”
In 2004 Parton told the story to set up a new song she's written, ‘I Dreamed About Elvis’, to memorialize the event. "I was disappointed I never got Elvis to record it . . . but Whitney Houston did it and made me a ton of money," |

Elvis’ 30 top-selling single records: A neat article by Charles Apple for The Spokesman Review.
Elvis Presley, the original “King of Rock ‘n’ Roll” long before Michael Jackson was born, graduated from the regional Memphis-based Sun Records to a major recording contract with RCA Records in late 1955. He’d go on to sell 50.5 million 45 rpm records in the US, and that’s not counting his many albums or tickets to the movies in which he starred.
Here’s a look at Elvis’ success as a singles artist.
Elvis’ very first RCA single release, “Heartbreak Hotel,” would ride atop the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart for seven weeks and at No. 1 on the Billboard Country and Western chart for 17 weeks. And even with all that success, “Heartbreak Hotel” is “only” Elvis’ seventh best selling single in terms of discs sold.
Elvis’ all-time top-selling single, “It’s Now or Never,” was based on the Italian standard “O Sole Mio.” Elvis had heard Mario Lanza’s recording of that song during his time in the Army in Germany and asked his publisher what he could come up with along the same lines. The result would spend eight weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100. It would also be Elvis’ biggest international hit.
Deserving of special notice is Elvis’ huge 1956 two-sided single hit single. He recorded “Don’t Be Cruel” but then – instead of the usual throwaway song – the label added “Hound Dog” as the single’s B-side. “Hound Dog” took off first, peaking at No. 2 on Billboard’s Best Sellers chart before “Don’t Be Cruel” overtook it, hitting No. 1 on Billboard’s Pop, Country and Rhythm and Blues charts. Between the two sides, the single would spend 11 weeks at No. 1 – yielding only to Elvis’ next single, “Love Me Tender.” |

In all, Elvis would spend 25 weeks at the top of US Billboard’s Best Sellers chart in 1956.

'The James Drury Interview': EIN contributor Jeremy Roberts has been absent of late, but today we discovered his facsinating in-depth interview with Elvis' Love Me Tender co-star James Drury.

"Elvis was a very eager and earnest young man on Love Me Tender. He wanted to learn about motion picture acting. He questioned us constantly about different camera shots and hitting your marks. We gave him all the advice we could. He went on to great success, of course.
Q. Was it difficult to talk with Elvis in light of the ever-present Memphis Mafia?
J.Drury: "Oh no, they knew that Elvis and I were friends. They left us alone. We didn’t have any problems with them. When Elvis first came to California in 1956, he didn’t know anybody. He had to have some familiar faces around him, people he trusted that could take care of him, be his bodyguards, and be his friends. Some were cousins, and some had been with him since Humes High School. In other words, life-long friends. Elvis wanted them around him, and he was making tremendously big money which enabled him to support them for many years.
Q. Did you run into Elvis after Love Me Tender wrapped?
JD: Very definitely — I was friends with Elvis for the rest of his life. Anytime he was playing in a city where I was I’d go to see his concert. I would never call him backstage or anything, but he would always know I was there. He had “spies” in the audience. Before very long, he’d send a message to me. A guy would come over and say, “Elvis wants you to come to his dressing room after the show.” I would go and spend hours with him [On the road Presley avoided backstage socializing, spending minimal time in the venue before showtime. 'Rare items unearthed in Graceland archives: At Graceland this year, archivist Angie Marchese has been giving Elvis fans a behind-the-scenes look in her Inside the Archives videos. Posted on Graceland’s official Instagram account, the latest saw the Elvis historian surprised by one particular item uncovered in the archives.
At the start of the video, Angie found a members receipt for the American Guild of Variety Artists, dated October 3, 1956.
But it was the second randomly selected item that surprised the Elvis historian. Angie picked out a brand new cheque book from the National Bank of Commerce, with the first one being for the Presley rental account.
She said: “I’ve never heard of this |

account! Think I’m going to have to do some research on that to see what that one’s about.” Perhaps it was a bank account Elvis used for when he rented particular items he didn’t want to keep?
Meanwhile, another of Elvis’ possessions had a connection to his early girlfriend June Juanico. It was a matchbook from the Buena Vista hotel in Biloxi, Mississippi, presumably from around the mid-1950s when they were dating.
Angie enthused: “Wow! Elvis was in Biloxi on vacation with June Juanico. I wonder if this is where they stayed.”
Finally, the Graceland historian uncovered a very early possession of Elvis’ father Vernon Presley.
Angie showed fans Vernon Presley’s United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America union dues book from 1942. The item said the initiation fee was $50 and even had Vernon’s birthdate on it of April 10, 1916.

Her latest book, Beyond the Stars My Seven Years with Elvis, was recently published. Grace kindly agreed to talk to EIN about her new book and her relationship with what she calls the Entity of Elvis Presley, recalling conversations that vary from what brought him to drug abuse, to admissions about his one true love, even discussions about the meaning of life.
In the interview Grace Pearl explains,"Everyone has experienced telepathy. You suddenly think of a person you haven’t heard from in six months. The telephone rings and it’s that person. Suddenly, comes to you an idea you would have never thought of about a particular situation you’re dealing with. And you feel a strong emotion with it.... An amazing sequence of events, which happened to me in the course of a year, led me to be in direct contact with Elvis. They happened so unexpectedly that I lived each of them somewhat naturally. I hadn’t done anything to make them happen, they just did."
This is an intriguing and interesting interview which will likely engross some readers and frustrate others.

David Stanley Talks Elvis: The UK tabloids keep posting "new" Elvis stories, and although badly fact-checked they at least show Elvis' on-going popularity in the UK.
Recently they featured "David Stanley says Elvis' inner torment caught up with him in the end"
... Elvis' step-brother David Stanley grew up alongside The King at Graceland and was with him until the very end as an inner member of the Memphis Mafia.
David Stanley became part of Elvis' family in 1960 when his mother Dee married the star's father, Vernon Presley, on July 3, 1960. He grew up living next door to Graceland and, when he was old enough, became part of the inner circle who made sure everything went smoothly and exactly as Elvis wanted. David was even there in the bathroom at The King's Memphis mansion on the night Elvis died.
Stanley describes a man who was always struggling with his gifts and his fame, who struggled to allow people to truly know and love him.
As a child, he just remembers being taken to school in a pink Cadillac by the man who "looked over at me and he picked me up and he gave me a hug and he welcomed me into his family. |

"He took me in and he shared his life with me. He knew that my dad had been swept out of my life, and he did that replacement thing."
But as David grew up, he started to understand the pressures his step-brother was under and to see a man struggling to feel worthy of all his extraordinary gifts.
David said: "When people talk about him and how big he is, he was such a magnet, people were just drawn to him.
"He had a hard time being that. I mean, he was being Elvis Presley. I think in the end that's what caught up with him.
"How do you become a person that everybody loves? How do you become a person everybody adores and follows and wants to be around and wants that pat on the back?"
He says Elvis struggled with more than just fame. The star famously delved deeper and deeper into spiritualism in his final years, rooted in his sincere attempts to make sense of his life
David added: "Watching him being Elvis, cool Elvis, up Elvis, down Elvis, sad Elvis, the great entertainer he was, watching him do that and towards the end, watching him go through that... Many times Elvis would sit down by himself and say, 'Why me? Why I do have these phenomenal gifts?'
He always wanted to share it but he always had that problem of, 'why has this been bestowed on me?'"
Elvis "went the extra mile to make you feel special" and yet was not able to let others do the same for him.

He explained: "Elvis loved to love people but it was difficult for Elvis letting people love him or letting us love him. He would just go inside himself and try to figure out who he was."
No matter how much those around the star tried to help him, especially towards the end, David added: "Elvis was ultimately responsible for himself. We could only take care of him as much as we could."

He couldn’t be more wrong.
“We’re not trying to change history,” Matt Ross-Spang says of the updated mixes,“But it’s amazing, with the abilities we have, to go back and showcase how invested Elvis was in the music and in the songs.”
“It was all night,” McCoy says of those wild, dusk-to-dawn sessions. “Elvis would sleep all day and then he came in raring to go. I walked out of the studio with just enough time to go to breakfast and go to my next session.” -

NOV 20 - 'From Elvis In Nashville' OUT NOW: Great news as Elvis' 2020 major release 'From Elvis In Nashville' is out now, even delivered by the Australian postman at 9am this morning. (Despite rumours the release would be delayed in Australia).
And it is an absolute gem, capturing Elvis creating some truly magnificent Nashville magic. While these Marathon Sessions have often been compared unfavourably with the life-changing 1969 Memphis Sessions Elvis and his core musicians work truly hard as the camarderie between them inspire some of Elvis' best work of the 70s.

The shame is that the core soul of the original recordings of Elvis and the Nashville Cats would often be hidden by the later orchestral overdubs or clean ups.
As the publicity says, "these sessions are presented in pristine audio, newly mixed by acclaimed engineer Matt Ross-Spang without the added overdubs of earlier releases - in other words how Elvis would sound if you were in the room with him" and it is right.
There are delights to discover in the previously unreleased Undubbed Masters such as I've Lost You, The Sound Of Your Cry, The Fool, It's Your Baby You Rock It, Stranger In The Crowd, Mary In The Morning, Just Pretend, even Bridge Over Troubled Water never before officially released as Undubbed but with harmony vocal.
While others such as I Really Don't Want To Know,The Next Step Is Love, Funny How Time Slips Away, I Washed My Hands In Muddy Water, even Only Believe have a new "fuller" more soulful feel courtesy of the Matt Ross-Spang new audio mixes.
The 28 booklet is packed full of information plus two detailed articles, four pages by Ernst Jorgensen on the session themselves plus an interesting 7-page essay by Nashville author David Cantwell explaining how the musicians all came together to create such important music. |

Ernst writes, "What Elvis called "sitting ready" essentially meant that he expected the musicians share his inspired moments and instantly fall in with whatever he began singing.... Spontaneity was key, and to Elvis, it was always about the feel, and not about perfection."
A core thread is that it was the RCA Range & Hill supplied material that let the overall quality drop and plenty of those tracks never even get mentioned in Ernst's session essay.
Like the STAX 2013 deluxe SONY release and 'Way Down In The Jungle Room' once again it is Elvis' pure recordings that prove he was still a force to be reckoned with after the musical renaissance of the 1969 Chips Moman Sessions.
This is a MUST BUY for any Elvis Fan.

‘From Elvis in Nashville’ WSJ Review: The Wall Street Journal has positively reviewed the new ‘From Elvis in Nashville' set.
The review, "Elvis The King Captured in His Favorite Form" includes....
A CD set documenting Presley’s intimate 1970 sessions in Music City bears out the singer’s view that he was at his best live in the studio with a responsive band.
... While Elvis was willing to do multiple takes for complex, multitrack productions when that was called for, he believed he was recorded best working live in the studio with a responsive band right at hand. “From Elvis in Nashville” proves his instincts were correct.
Forty tracks recorded that summer are revisited without the orchestral and horn overdubs piled on for those releases, presenting the wide array of material Presley and band took up live in the studio. The results are all the more immediate and intimate for it, and alternate takes and rehearsal recordings are added on separate discs, showing how those results were achieved. |

Elvis works with an evolved set of players here... with a loose, funky rhythm section, Elvis' comfort and identification with these players is palpable, their broad versatility liberating for him, as tidbits of uncensored outtake conversations underscore.
Presley was a music fan with broad, deep roots-music interests as much as a practitioner. That’s unquestionable. He leads the band, in the course of these sessions, back into rockabilly (Jerry Lee Lewis’s “Whole Lotta Shakin’ Goin’ On” and Sanford Clark’s “The Fool”); blues, with Muddy Waters’s “Got My Mojo Working”; and gospel both serious (“Where Did They Go, Lord;” “Only Believe”) and in the American tall-tale hokum vein (“I Was Born About Ten Thousand Years Ago”). The excursion is as much fun as it sounds like it would be.
The artist’s ease and innovation recording in RCA Nashville’s Studio B, and his enduring welcome there, will likely surprise many. Elvis Presley was very much at home in Nashville, Tenn. and with this R&B-practiced band behind him now, he was all the more so. You can hear it.

Elvis #5 Top-Earning Dead Celebrity: Last year ELVIS jumped back up the Forbes charts to become #2 Top-Earning Dead Celebrity but this year he has taken a bad hit, dropping down to Number 5 but still earning an easy $23 million without getting out of bed.
Michael Jackson again tops Forbes magazine's annual list of the highest-earning deceased celebrities but with an estimated of $48 million income, a drop of 12mill from last year, with his Music catalog (which includes Elvis and Aretha Franklin!) and a long-term Sony deal accounting for more than 70% of his earnings.

Elvis' income was truly hit by the coronavirus as Graceland closed for two months this year and is now operating at reduced capacity with earnings dropping by millions.
Sadly, there are also young newcomers to the list 21-year-old rapper Juice WRLD (No. 7) who died December 2019 earned $15 million and NBA Hall of Famer Kobe Bryant, who was killed in a helicopter crash in January, is ranked No. 6, having earned $20 million.
The top ten also featured Bob Marley with $14 million, John Lennon $13 million and Prince with $10 million.

Q. Elvis died 43 years ago, what do you think fans will learn from your book?
Sally Hoedel: Fans will learn what Elvis was struggling with health-wise throughout his life, not just in the final years. Everyone knows the struggling Elvis as the bloated image of 1977, but the Elvis of 1957 already had a number of ailments. My book traces when they were first evident. This is so important because when there is evidence of disease/disorder prior to fame then it can be concluded that the disease/disorder was not the end result of the prescription medication problem. The book also traces, when possible, where the ailments came from in the family tree and by doing so, truly explains Gladys’ death in a way that has never been done before. Explaining one, gives us answers for the other as both their lives were cut short.

habits still matter to the tabloid media?
SH: There are many reasons why Elvis’ decline is still making headlines. One is that his demise was so visual…he went from a perfect looking human to a visibly compromised man. Second, who else is known around the world by their first name? Elvis is as recognizable as Coca-Cola and Mickey Mouse yet the world tends to forget that he was a human being and not just an image. That leads to the third reason, which is the fact that so much of what general pop culture knows about Elvis is false. He is a man so shrouded in myth and legend that he is rarely allowed to exist within his own humanity.
Q. If you had known Elvis could you have saved him?
SH: If I had known Elvis during his lifetime, I could not have saved him. The point of my book is that no one could, not even Elvis himself.

For this 2-LP limited edition, we have mirrored this rare design that included a publicity portrait from Spinout. Elvis recorded the songs on september 28 and 29, 1966.

(Book Review) From Elvis in Memphis (Eric Wolfson): The 150th volume in the popular Bloomsbury Academic 33 1/3 series of music history and criticism books is Eric Wolfson’s From Elvis in Memphis (due out on 12 November).

Elvis’ love of guns (and other weapons) is well known, but until now there has not been a detailed narrative and visual record of this passion. Belard has managed to compile a visually impressive and narratively comprehensive account, presenting hundreds of Elvis’ guns, knives, holsters, and other associated items, and most of the items are in color.

EIN Spotlight: Changing Times, Heavy books, and the two-class Elvis world: While a lot of fans believe Col Parker was bad for Elvis the one thing the Colonel usually got right was to look after the fans. From reasonable ticket prices, cheap licensed merchandise and assisting fan clubs, he worked with fans to engender good will and build interest in the latest Elvis releases.
In 2020, the situation is very different. EPE is owned by commercial interests meaning entry costs to Graceland, and buying licensed Elvis merchandise is no longer cheap - and importantly, no longer affordable for many who have been fans since the 1950s.
Another change is Follow That Dream, RCA-SONY, Eric Lorentzen, Venus, etc all now publish expensive "Deluxe" collections. Some costing US$350. Out of reach for most fans, so why is this?
The answer, of course, is money. There is obviously a neat profit in targeting the higher end of the Elvis fan market. In this respect, the proliferation of coffee table Elvis books is similar to the (admittedly) less regular annual Elvis box set extravaganzas from RCA/BMG/Sony. And, of course, plenty of the material in all these publications has usually been previously released but now include a few new additions or "upgrades" to attract customers.

The “limited edition” first pressing focuses on one of the most significant events in the Elvis story, his first appearance on America’s most popular television entertainment program, The Ed Sullivan Show.
Elvis was reviewed at the time as .. Anything more outrageously offensive to good taste, is hard to imagine – within the limits of the law. The young man seems devoid of talent, unless one recognises such a thing as a talent for vulgarity.
How then, does he happen to appear again and again on a program allegedly governed by the American family’s sovereign demand for things of good taste?

UPDATED- 'Elvis: St Louis & Spokane 1976' FTD In-Depth Review: 1976 is not an easy Elvis concert year to review. There were no major set-list changes, no dramatic "emotional roller-coaster" of 1974 and no high-flying "Huntsville" 1975 excitements.
Released as a 2-CD 5” digi-pak, this new FTD set features Elvis at the Kiel Auditorium on March 22 1976 and The Coliseum on April 27 1976.
Both shows were "Closing Nights" of these short 1976 tours where Elvis would often go that little bit further for his loving fans.
Larrie Londin played drums with the TCB band on the March 1976 tour so it will be a treat for collectors to get an official release featuring 'A Different Beat' with Larrie Londin playing at St Louis on March 22, 1976.
Can there really be that much to say about these two concerts, well EIN's coolest reviewers have rustled up over 4000 words.. and check if there any surprises in store..

'ELVIS In The 2010s' A Personal Review of the Past Decade: Rather like Elvis’s own career, each decade since Elvis’s death appears to have had a theme or identity of its own. Clearly the late 1970s were difficult for RCA as they struggled to find the right direction with which to take their posthumous releases, and so it was the 1980s that was the decade when the company slowly but surely learned how to look back at Elvis's legacy and start to make some sense of it.
The 1990s were when that reached a peak, with the decades boxed sets, and the Elvis in the 90s series, thus bringing virtually the whole catalogue back into print in a coherent way.
The 2000s were when errors of judgement at retail level started to occur (despite huge successes like Elv1s), but also when FTD came into its own and flourished.
And so what will we make of Elvis releases of the 2010s when we look back on them from the future?

'What was Elvis searching for?' EIN Spotlight: The question is raised – but never answered – in the title of HBO’s recent absorbing, imperfect documentary 'Elvis Presley: The Searcher'.
At the start it seems clear what the teenage Elvis was searching for – an escape from the oblivion of poverty in the American South. Yet his quest was cultural as well as financial.
Later Elvis read obsessively, seeking out such books as The Impersonal Life, Joseph Brenner’s guide to self-discovery and Kahil Gibran’s book of fables, The Prophet. In his copy of Gibran’s tome, Elvis jotted down the line: “A singer can sing his songs but he must have an ear to receive the song”.
So what exactly was Elvis searching for? In this fascinating EIN Spotlight respected author Paul Simpson takes a close look at this all important question which, for some reason, was basically ignored in the recent HBO documentary..

The VINYL Boom: Over 7.6 million vinyl LPs were sold in the USA during the first half of 2018, a 20% increase from the previous year, while in Australia vinyl sales increased by $3 million, the same increase of 20%. In the same period CD sales however dropped by 15%.
Elvis vinyl is still selling very nicely with ‘ELV1S: 30 #1 Hits’ recently in the UK Top ten VINYL charts.

‘ELV1S: 30 #1 Hits’ on GOLD Vinyl: ELV1S: 30 #1 Hits was re-released by Sony Music on GOLD Vinyl on 12 October. UK's Entertainment-Focus have posted this cute review.
... What is there to say about Elvis Presley that hasn’t already been said?
It may be 41 years since the icon died tragically at only 42 years old but his music continues to live on, and likely will forever. It’s actually mind-blowing to think that his music has survived for almost as long as he was alive. In 2002 Sony Music released a new greatest hits collection titled ELV1S: 30 #1 Hits, which dominated charts across the world and sold millions and millions of copies. 16 years on from its original release, ELV1S: 30 #1 Hits has been reissued on 2LP vinyl.
Taking inspiration from the album cover, the release has been pressed on gold vinyl making the whole package feel very special.
Presley was an incredibly prolific artist so getting this collection down to 31 tracks was no easy feat. It also includes the ALLC Junkie XL remix.
What was achieved with ELV1S: 30 #1 Hits though, is a

collection that gives you all the highlights you need from The King’s career to showcase the incredible impact he had on music. The album opens with Heartbreak Hotel and there isn’t a single filler track here.
It’s actually near impossible to pick out highlights across the 2LPs because every single one of these songs is a classic.
Of course no Elvis collection would be complete without Suspicious Minds and that track is near the end of the track listing on the final side.
The release features the artwork from the original 2002 release and it’s a beautiful, high-quality gatefold. I mentioned earlier about the gold vinyl but what I’ve not commented on yet is the sound. The CD version was a little patchy given that the songs were all recorded at different times. It’s not as noticeable on the vinyl release and the quality is crystal clear. The warm crackle of vinyl adds to the overall feel too.
ELV1S: 30 #1 Hits is a must-have release for any Elvis Presley fan. While he had plenty of great songs that aren’t featured here, this collection truly is the definitive one to own. There’s not a single bad song here and it’s lengthy enough to give you value for money. The whole vinyl package is fantastic and it looks as good as it sounds.
They don’t make artists like Elvis anymore and they probably never will again.

'ELVIS ON TOUR - 45th Anniversary Deluxe Edition' IN-Depth Review: Amiga International's long awaited LIMITED-EDITION boxset featuring 9-CD’s, all remastered, of all known recordings made for the Golden Globe Award-winning concert documentary ELVIS ON TOUR is OUT NOW. It includes the premiere of the complete rehearsal recorded in Buffalo, NY on April 5, 1972, with three previously unreleased performances.

UPDATED - Trying To Get To You: The Truth Behind The Elvis And Roy Orbison Show Rumours: For decades there has always been an unsubstantiated rumour that Elvis Presley appeared as a guest on Roy Orbison's TV show on the local station KOSA.
The Roy Orbison website notes that both Johnny Cash and Elvis Presley performed on Roy’s TV show in late 1955.
Respected author Colin Escott wrote in his book Good Rockin’ Tonight about a kinescope of Elvis on the Roy Orbison TV show actually existing.
Some keen Elvis fans have said that they have seen this very kinescope at Elvis Week shows back in the 80s.
But like infamous Pied Piper of Cleveland does this footage really exist and is there any real proof that Elvis did appear on the Roy Orbison TV show?
Shane Brown (author of Reconsider Baby: Elvis: A Listener's Guide) has done an immense amount of investigation and thinks he has found the answer.

Mindi Miller Interview with EIN: Mindi Miller was a working actress when she met Elvis in early 1975. She was interested in karate (she performed all her own movie stunts), exploring spirituality and the Bible and so they had a lot in common.
Mindi Miller and Elvis bonded over their common interests and soon afterwards he asked her to go on tour with him in April 1975.
She stayed friends with Elvis through the years - along with members of the 'Memphis Mafia' - and attended his funeral.

'Marty Lacker: A Life Well-Lived' & Elvis at American Studio's Interview: It was with immense sadness that last month EIN had to report on the death of our great friend - and a true friend to Elvis - Marty Lacker. We will miss him dearly.
Marty is well-known as one of the key members of the Memphis Mafia and also co-Best Man at Elvis' wedding. He was known for both his honesty and being forthright with his opinions. He was the only member of the Memphis Mafia who still watched and commented on recent Elvis News. He had no issue with holding people to account (especially ones who would inflate their importance within Elvis' legacy) and would regularly ask EIN to add his comments or to correct any inaccuracy.
Elvis fans often ask about Marty Lacker's background, how he came to meet Elvis, as well as his involvement in the music industry outside of working for The King.
As a prelude to Ken Sharp's fascinating interview with Marty Lacker and a discussion about Elvis' famous American Studio' Memphis sessions, EIN presents "Marty Lacker: a life well-lived" in which Marty tells of his life in the music industry, his friendship with Elvis along with his dislike of the over-controlling Col Parker.

UPDATED - 'Way Down In The Jungle Room' EIN Review: Released for August 2016 this SONY Legacy pack celebrates the 40th anniversary of Elvis’ last recording sessions which took place in Graceland’s Jungle Room.
The publicity noted the sessions “have been newly mixed by Matt Ross-Spang at Sam Phillips Recording” and “includes both outtakes and in-the-studio dialog, providing a ‘fly-on-the-wall experience’ of what the sessions were like".
Elvis' original 76/77 albums were fairly uninspired collections (bar a few fine singles) and on the original LPs it was almost impossible to glimpse any sign of creative input from Elvis through the syrupy overdubs. It wasn't until the release of FTD’s magnificent ‘The Jungle Room Sessions’ that many fans began to understand the raw emotion, close camaraderie and Elvis’ personal feelings that were revealed by these intimate Graceland sessions.
To produce that same kind of revelation for the 'General Public' would be a very tricky project but that is exactly what the new legacy team has done - and to great effect.

Did Elvis Record 'Tiger Man' At Sun?: A question that has puzzled Elvis fans through the years is whether he actually recorded the song ‘Tiger Man’ during his years at SUN studios.
The basic question is why did Elvis refer to 'Tiger man' several times in concert as “The second song that I ever recorded, not too many people heard it”?
And if Elvis DID record it, then why hasn’t any reference to it at SUN or proof of its existence been found?
Elvis would first perform ‘Tiger Man’ in concert at his first 1969 Las Vegas International season and would continue playing it through the years – usually in a medley with Mystery Train - until his last performance at Saginaw on May 3 1977. He would sing it over 150 times on stage!
The thought that there might be an acetate or undiscovered tape of Elvis at SUN singing ‘Tiger Man’ is a mouth-watering concept - but is it an unlikely fantasy or strong possibility?
