'ELVIS ON TOUR - 45th Anniversary Deluxe Edition' Delayed: Amiga International releases a long awaited LIMITED-EDITION boxset featuring 9-CD’s, all remastered, of all known recordings made for the Golden Globe Award-winning concert documentary ELVIS ON TOUR. This will include the premiere of the complete rehearsal recorded in Buffalo, NY on April 5, 1972, with three previously unreleased performances.
The 13-inch boxset also includes a huge 128-page hardcover book containing detailed essays of the entire April 1972 tour with RARE AND UNPUBLISHED photographs and related memorabilia.
When considering the lack of attention paid to this concert documentary, it seems a shame that so few official releases have emerged. It is for this reason that AMIGA International presents this deluxe package to honor the excellent recordings made for the much neglected "Elvis On Tour" film. |

'Elvis: The Rebirth of the King' on BBC FOUR TV TONIGHT: The new documentary 'Elvis: The Rebirth of the King' (originally suggested for August 2017) will be shown on UK's BBC Four TV over the Christmas period.
The publicity notes.. The widely accepted Elvis narrative is that The Vegas Period was the nadir of his career but this film argues that Elvis reached his peak, both as a singer and performer in the first few years of his Vegas period. He became, in those short years, the greatest performer on earth.
Elvis: Rebirth of The King, tracks this five year renaissance with some of his key musical and artistic collaborators of the period, including the creator of his most memorable jumpsuits, to celebrate the greatest pop reinvention of all time!

'Secrets and Lies: Getting to the Truth about Elvis' Christmas Album': Probably more than any other album of his career, Elvis’ Christmas Album is generally regarded as having created the most controversy. At this time of year, this great article from 2016 by author Shane Brown is worth another visit.
Some would argue that the first album in 1956 did this, but actually there was relatively little backlash against it or Elvis in the press prior to the second Milton Berle appearance. Elvis’ Christmas Album, however, has stories of it being banned by radio stations, firings of DJs, and an irate Irving Berlin all attached to it.
These events make for great stories, have been often repeated, and only add to the legend of the boy from Tupelo taking on the establishment and coming out with #1 album.
But are they really true?

Elvis fanatic's stolen collection to be replaced by record shop owners: In a cute Christmas Eve story the BBC reports that...
A record shop owner says he and other sellers will try to help out an Elvis fanatic whose valuable record collection was stolen in a burglary.
The victim, who is in his 70s, was left "completely distraught" by the theft from his home in Great Dunmow, Essex.
He had spent much of his life amassing the collection of more than 100 records, which included rare LPs.
Denholm Ellis, of Intense Records in Chelmsford, said he and others had "decided to club together" to help.
"This guy's lost all his records, but we've got a lot lying around in the shop, the sellers have quite a few in their boxes. We've spoken to each other and decided to club together and put together as many Elvis records as we can for him"
Speaking after the burglary happened, the victim - who wants to remain anonymous - said the collection meant "an awful lot".
"It is not just the monetary value of these records; they have huge sentimental value and I just want them back," he said.
Police believe the man's home was targeted because of his Elvis collection.

Lisa Marie visits Children's Foundation: In another positive Christmas story, Lisa Marie was a special guest at The Brigitte & Bobby Sherman Children's Foundation Christmas gathering. The Brigitte & Bobby Sherman Children's Foundation provides quality education and support system to brilliant but needy children in Ghana.
Rick Chambers introduced Lisa Marie Presley noting that she had created the first endeavor of The Presley Charitable Foundation called Presley Place - New Orleans; a transitional housing facility for homeless families. It provides homeless families up to one year of rent-free housing, child day care, career and financial counseling, family management guidance and other tools to help them break the cycle of poverty and regain self-esteem and independence. She also donated all proceeds from her Duet with her dad’s “In The Ghetto” to the victims of Hurricane Katrina."

'Elvis' Gold Cadillac Tour': EPE have posted a blog about how Elvis' gold Cadillac hit the road to promote Elvis in 1965 and 1968.
With Elvis locked into Hollywood's fluffy family movies and no longer touring, Col Parker sent out his car on tour instead - even to Australia.
The Cadillac was purchased from Southern Motors, Inc., of Memphis, for $11,064.25 on December 22, 1959 and delivered on December 29, 1959. Elvis put down a deposit of $2,000 for George Barris to customize it in November 1961, and he paid an additional $3,000 for more work in March 1962.
George Barris, "King of the Kustomizers," made Elvis' car truly unique. The car held both a TV and telephone, and just about everything was gold.
So in the spring on 1965 Parker & RCA sent the Cadillac on tour with Gabe Tucker, driver and tour manager for RCA, to help oversee the project.

The car also visited Calloway Georgia, Birmingham Alabama, Tuscaloosa Alabama, Montgomery Alabama, Augusta Georgia and Canton Georgia.
In 1968 the Gold Cadillac went back on tour this time on the other side of the world.
In mid-1967, Australian Elvis fan clubs got word that the car would go on tour in Australia and New Zealand in '68. RCA, Elvis Presley Enterprises and the Benevolent Society of New South Wales worked together on the tour and hoped to raise $100,000 for 17 Australian charities.
As a bonus, Elvis included $1,000 worth of toys inside the car for needy children in Australia. He also signed photos that were given away.
Elvis' Cadillac left for Australia on December 8, 1967 and arrived in early January 1968. The car's gold bumper was removed before it was publicly displayed, since the bumper could be easily removed. A regular, non-gold bumper was used instead.
A press conference took place at the Sydney Trocadero on January 17, and then the Cadillac hit the road. |

Also included in the tour were Elvis' Australian RCA Gold Records that were put on display near the car. Fans could also purchase souvenirs, including a souvenir photo of the Cadillac with the car's full details listed on the back; Elvis Australian RCA records; souvenir brochure and more. Elvis fan club members donated their time and efforts by assisting with the merchandise sales.
After a short tour of New Zealand, the Gold Cadillac returned to the States. The Benevolent Society Charity Committee sent Elvis a letter of appreciation and noted that the tour raised $149,175 for Australian charities.
Elvis' Gold Cadillac went on display at the Country Music Hall of Fame in Nashville, Tennessee, in 1977, and you can still see it there today.

FTD will NOT end in 2019: A fair number of uninformed supposed Elvis "insiders" (even some Fan Club Presidents) have been publishing fictional stories that the FTD label is planning to close in 2019.
Ernst Jorgensen had strongly denied this story stating, that FTD has plans to continue for the foreseeable future.
In an interesting interview about 'The Future of FTD' - with Trevor Cajiao in the recent ETM&HM magazine - Ernst Jorgensen's main points were....
1. FTD will not be closing in 2019
2. The 'Classic Albums" series is nearly complete but there are more to come, noting 'Aloha' and 'Madison Square Garden' are still to be done.
3. Expanded "complete session tapes" releases are being considered
4. Plenty more soundboards to come

Graceland Holiday Concert Weekend: This weekend saw three festive live concerts
at the Graceland Sound Stage at Graceland's new Elvis Presley's Memphis
entertainment complex. The first holiday concerts ever to take place on the
Graceland campus.
They included Friday's Christmas with Elvis at Graceland - with Live Orchestra featuring a live concert orchestra presenting Elvis' biggest Christmas hits, featuring live material for the first time in the U.S. from the new release, "Elvis - Christmas with Elvis and The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra."

Saturday's An Elvis Gospel Christmas, featuring the legendary Terry Blackwood and the Imperials, plus Elvis Live in Concert with an All-Star Band, featuring Elvis on the big screen with a live band of incredible musicians.
Elvis White Knabe Piano is Back! In addition to the holiday shows, Elvis' famous white Knabe baby grand piano that was originally purchased by Elvis for the home in 1957 was brought back home
The piano can be seen in the mansion's Music Room starting this weekend now restored to its original 1960s-era appearance including the white piano.
On May 28, 1957, Elvis purchased the piano built by Wm. Knabe & Co. from Jack Marshall Pianos-Organs in Memphis for $818.85. Elvis refurbished the piano in white and placed it in the music room at Graceland where it remained until 1968.
The original Knabe piano was placed in storage in 1968 and was sold in 1976 to Ted Sturges.

Mike Leech Has died: Mike Leech, who was Elvis' bass player on the sensational Memphis Sessions, has died.
As part of the American Sound Studio "Memphis Boys" musicians he also arranged and played on hundreds of hits also by other artists such as The Box Tops, Dusty Springfield, Bobby Womack, B.J Thomas, Willie Nelson and Joe Tex.
Leech - second left in the photo - passed away on December 12 after a long illness.
The news was posted on the excellent Scotty Moore website.

Elvis’ Suicide Note Found (says tabloid!): In a nasty pre-Christmas news item "tabloid" website RADAR has posted a story saying "Elvis’ Suicide Notes Found- Letter Affirms Singer’s Death Was An Intentional Overdose" -
Unfortunately the story features supposedly remembered old gossip from Joe Esposito (RIP and not here to defend himself) plus the source being the unreliable Billy Miller. Everything about the story screams FAKE.
Before you read this story from "Memphis Mafia" member Billy Miller - EIN needs to post these comments.
Marty Lacker, "BILLY MILLER HAD ABSOLUTELY NO CONNECTION TO ELVIS. THE MAJORITY OF HIS CLAIMS ARE BOGUS AND NOT TRUE.

Elvis’ friend and road manager, Joe Esposito, told Radar, shortly before his own death last year, he discovered one note next to the legend’s lifeless 300-pound body on the day he died at his Memphis home, Graceland.
Joe told Radar he burned the letter to hide the explosive contents from Elvis’ family and investigators. He also removed addicted Elvis’ stash of prescription painkillers.
“It was better to protect his family and his legacy by hiding everything — the note and his pills,” Joe said, adding that in the letter, Elvis confessed, “losing Priscilla was the greatest mistake of his life — and he couldn’t recover from the heartache.”
Joe noted Elvis also wrote that he was “embarrassed I can’t kick drugs” and felt “betrayed” by his overweight body. Since Joe broke his silence, a second letter has now surfaced!
That note, written in January 1977 — seven months before Elvis was found slumped in his bathroom — paints a clear picture of a man at the end of his rope.
“I need a long rest,” the legendary singer scribbled. “I’m sick and tired of my life.”
“If it wasn’t for my prayers, I think my life would end. My willpower is almost gone.”
Elvis sent the second message to Billy Miller, a member of the Memphis Mafia, who kept its contents secret — until now!

“The handwritten note appears to be genuine,” said Elvis’ stepbrother Rick Stanley. “To me, it’s a clear indication that suicide was on his mind.”
Elvis was 42 when his lover, Ginger Alden, found him dead at 2 p.m. on Aug. 16, 1977.

Suzanna Leigh Has Died: Suzanna Leigh, Elvis' co-star in 'Paradise, Hawaiian Style' has died aged 72. She has been struggling with liver cancer for the past year.
Born Sandra Smith in July 1945 she grew up in Berkshire England, and began working in movies while still a pre-teen. She worked on TV (bit parts with Roger Moore in The Saint) and also staring in a TV series in France.
In the mid-sixties she was spotted by US producer Hal Wallis who brought her to Hollywood to co-star in the film 'Boeing, Boeing' with Tony Curtis and Jerry Lewis. She was then cast as Elvis' co-star in the 1966 production 'Paradise, Hawaiian Style' .
She changed her name in honour of Vivien Leigh and always joked, "I was supposed to be a huge, huge star!"
Working on the movie she and Elvis were supposed to meet only on the set to avoid any hint of scandal, but one day, in front of photographers, Presley swept her up and kissed her. The photos went round the world. "That won't do your career any harm, baby," drawled the King. She was with Presley when Steve McQueen called her over to the adjacent set where he was filming and introduced himself. "For anybody of my age that was it: working with Elvis and having Steve McQueen chatting you up. I thought `I'd die happy right now'." |

In her biography she wrote, "Elvis' kisses held an intensity that melted my very being. I slipped my arms around his neck and our bodies entwined. This was all madness, but we didn't stop. A person could go to the gallows with such a kiss lingering on their lips, knowing life had been good."
She and Elvis bonded like brother and sister, linked by their beliefs in guardian angels, their interest in spirituality and their senses of humour.
Leigh soon ran into troubles with the US Screen Actors' Guild and returned to England becoming a star of "Hammer Horror" films.
She is remembered by horror buffs for the "The Lost Continent" (1968) when she grappled with a seaweedy sea-monster - and also Hammer's "Lust for a Vampire" (1974).
In her autobiography Leigh also described her affairs with such stars as Michael Caine and Richard Harris.
Ms. Leigh was living in Winter Garden, Florida, at the time of her death.
Despite some setbacks, Ms. Leigh said in her autobiography that she had no regrets. "My life was a roller-coaster ride through wonder-land".
Her daughter actress Natalia Leigh posted news of the death Monday night, "It was time for JESUS to take her home. The world will forever be a little less light and magical."

Wanda Jackson Talks Elvis: Wanda Jackson "Queen of Rockabilly" new autobiography "Every Night is a Saturday Night" book is out now (see below) and she was interviewed by Fox News about her life and times with Elvis.
Q. How did you and Elvis meet?
Jackson: After I graduated from high school, I had a couple of songs by that time. I was ready to go on tour. I'm an only child, so daddy decided he should go with me. So for the first couple of nights, we toured with a guy named Elvis Presley. I've never heard of him. That was in 1955.
The thing that Elvis did for me was giving me the courage to sing this new music, like he was doing. I would tell him, "I can't do that Elvis because I'm just a country singer! Besides, I'm a girl. I can't sing that stuff." And he said, "I know you could if you try." He made me promise that I would try. I kept my promise. When I moved to Capitol Records, that's when I recorded one of my first rock 'n' roll songs, "I Gotta Know." It was especially written for me. It has a little bit of a country kickoff.
It was a transition song for me. I recorded a lot of rock 'n' roll songs. They mostly had to be cover songs because nobody thought a girl's point of view would sell... I began writing stuff and they all did well... Seems like I always had to be pushed a little bit.
Q. Tell us about your relationship with Elvis Presley.

Jackson: He asked me to be his girl and I had his ring. I wore it around my neck for about a year... But I lived in Oklahoma and he lived in Tennessee. So we didn't see each other except on the tours that we did together. My daddy traveled with me. He wouldn't let me go out with guys usually. But he liked Elvis really well.
He knew Elvis was a gentleman. So he would let me go out with Elvis to a movie or for a burger afterward. Then it wasn't long until he became so popular that we couldn't go out after the show. When they would see that pink Cadillac, they knew Elvis was in there! So it got hard to get together. We were together until the first part of 1957. Then he went to Hollywood to start his film career.
- I still have that ring! My mother made sure she held on to it for me. She figured I wouldn't keep it or something. But she did. She's got a little note in there and it says it was given to me by Elvis in 1955. Come to think of it, I guess it didn't take us long to like each other! We had a lot in common. He took me to his home. We sang and played records. He showed me what he does to a rock song.
So I have to admit, I had a good teacher. Once I recorded rock 'n' roll, I loved it. I knew I could sing it. After I tried it, I thought, "Boy, I found a |

home!" That's why I recorded so much of it. For a good while, we'd put country songs on one side of the single and a rock song on the other, hoping to get air play from one or the other. We were then doing my albums that way... people liked them.
Q. You gave country music sex appeal. How did you manage that?
Jackson: You have to realize, back then, all the girls wore what was called "cowboy suits." Full skirts with maybe some fringe on it, a shirt and maybe a cowboy hat... I just never did feel comfortable with those big ol' heavy boots, the hat and the guitar around me... I was already wearing tight skirts and heels.
I thought, "I need to dress more like a lady. I need more glamour." We came up with tight skirts, silky fringe and high heels. I was a big fan of Elizabeth Taylor and Marilyn Monroe. So I wanted to dress up like they did. Also, I thought, I was covering up my assets, with the guitar and all that garb on! I was like a bird out of a cage once I got my look down.
Q. How was it touring with Jerry Lee Lewis and Johnny Cash?
Jackson: The wild men? Well, my dad didn't let me hang out with the guys during the tours... but I heard about their antics. And there were a lot! But they were great guys. They were my buddies. I liked them. But I did not get involved in their antics. My reputation stayed intact!
Q. You refused to return to the Grand Ole Opry for 50 years. Why?
Jackson: They wouldn't let me go on stage in the dresses like I was |

wearing. So I had to put a jacket on and it broke my heart because I designed a special dress just for them and it was so pretty. But I couldn't go on stage showing my shoulders... Elvis had a worse experience. They didn't like his style of performing. And he said, "I'm never coming back." And he never did. I said the same thing. When I did go back, I wasn't dressing that way anymore. At 80, you can't be so skimpy. You have to do a bit of covering up... It all worked out fine.

UPDATED - Trying To Get To You: The Truth Behind The Elvis And Roy Orbison Show Rumours: For decades there has always been an unsubstantiated rumour that Elvis Presley appeared as a guest on Roy Orbison's TV show on the local station KOSA.
The Roy Orbison website notes that both Johnny Cash and Elvis Presley performed on Roy’s TV show in late 1955.
Respected author Colin Escott wrote in his book Good Rockin’ Tonight about a kinescope of Elvis on the Roy Orbison TV show actually existing.
Some keen Elvis fans have said that they have seen this very kinescope at Elvis Week shows back in the 80s.
But like infamous Pied Piper of Cleveland does this footage really exist and is there any real proof that Elvis did appear on the Roy Orbison TV show?

"Promised Land" threatens at first to be a two-hour documentary about Elvis Presley’s car, but Jarecki shrugs that notion off after a few moments. And not without a degree of self-awareness. “This is a metaphor for Elvis, and the human condition,” someone chuckles from the backseat when the 1963 Rolls Royce breaks down. He even allows a bit of criticism. Writer/producer David Simon smirks, “you should have gotten one of his Cadillacs – an American car,” as mechanics try to revive the lumbering heap of damaged glitz which, by this point in the film, has become a rolling symbol of the doomed American experiment.
Jarecki uses Elvis Presley’s career and influence to help us make sense of fame, power, corruption, self-destructive behaviour and pretty much all the other ills of the world. Why in the hell did poor people vote for that greedy skunk Donald Trump? Many have tried to explain this (and will for a long long time) but few have done so with so many toe-tappin’ clips.
Elvis Presley, as I’m sure you know, grew up dirt poor in the rural south. (“Welcome to the Birthplace,” a Mississippi tour guide, standing on the porch of a small shack, says with a zealot’s tinge in her voice.) He moved to Memphis, admired and absorbed the gospel and R&B of his black neighbours, mixed it with bluegrass and country and changed popular culture and the entertainment economy forever. It was an act of inspired genius (and really good marketing) and also the most blatant example of cultural appropriation in American history. (Yes, Chuck D is in the movie – he hasn’t altered his position, but does have nice things to say about The Beastie Boys. Go figure.)
Does that make Elvis a bad person? Take a step back and ask a bigger question: is America a good country? Hell, go even further: why do human beings believe the obvious lies from powerful forces? Oh, man, I thought this was gonna’ be a road trip down Route 66 in Elvis’ car!

Johnny Hallyday: France's 'Elvis Presley' dies at 74: France's biggest rock star Johnny Hallyday has died after a battle with lung cancer. He was 74.
The singer sold about 100 million records and starred in a number of films in a career that began in 1960.
The French simply called him "Our Johnny", however, outside France Hallyday was virtually unknown.
Hallyday, whose real name was Jean-Philippe Smet, decided he wanted to be a singer after seeing Elvis Presley on screen in 1957. Hallyday was nicknamed the "French Presley" by his numerous fans.
His children, Laura and David, wrote a joint statement, saying: "Today we lost our father," and thanking fans for the outpouring of support.
Reacting to the news, French President Emmanuel Macron said "There is a little bit of Johnny in all of us." "Across generations, he carved himself into the lives of French people. He charmed them through the generosity you saw in his concerts: so epic, so intimate, in huge venues, in small spots."

Fans gathered outside the star's home in the town of Marnes-la-Coquette, west of Paris.
Tributes rolled in from his peers in the entertainment industry.
Brigitte Bardot, French film icon, wrote that she was "in shock".
"Johnny is a monument. He is France," she said in a social media post alongside a photo of her hugging the singer.
Among those outside of France to pay tribute was American guitarist Lenny Kravitz.
Despite his success at home, he failed to crack the lucrative American or any English-speaking market.
The USA Today newspaper once described him as "the greatest rock star you never heard of".
Hallyday was known for his hard work and almost non-stop touring. But he was also famous for his wild rock star antics, both on and off stage.
Heavy drinking, drug-taking and five marriages all contributed a sometimes chaotic lifestyle.
He was made a Chevalier of the Legion D'Honneur by President Jacques Chirac in 1997.

Pontiac Silverdome Demolished: One day after explosive charges failed to bring down part of the Pontiac Silverdome, a repeat attempt did the trick Monday afternoon.
The implosion was the long-awaited beginning of the end for an obsolete landmark that hosted Elvis Presley concert, a Super Bowl, World Cup, plus hundreds of Lions and Pistons games.
Sunday morning’s initial implosion attempt left thousands of eager onlookers feeling deflated. While puffs of smoke emerged around the 400,000-square-foot structure during the nine-second “show,” the Silverdome’s upper columns remained stubbornly intact.
The building opened in 1975 and cost $55.7 million. It featured performances from Elvis on New Year’s Eve 1975 and Pope John Paul II in 1987 and the largest recorded attendance for a live indoor sporting event at WrestleMania III 1987.
But the stadium fell into disrepair after the Lions left in 2002 and moved into Ford Field in downtown Detroit.

The Million Dollar Quartet - 61 years ago today: On December 4th, 1956 RCA's newest sensation Elvis Presley turned up unexpectedly at his old stomping ground of SUN studios at the moment Carl Perkins was recording some new material accompanied by his two brothers and drummer W.S. Holland. By chance newcomer Jerry lee Lewis had been brought in by producer Sam Phillips to add some piano to the session. Elvis was accompanied by girlfriend Marilyn Evans. Elvis picked up a guitar, the three SUN artists started jamming together and magic was in the air. Johnny Cash also happened to be present (he said he was there to check out Carl Perkins' session), the photographs were taken, engineer Jack Clement started the tapes recording and an iconic moment in rock'n'roll's legacy was captured forever.

His singing, especially on the gospel numbers, is natural and relaxed, minus some of the trademark mannerisms of his official RCA releases. Elvis' Madison Marker Damaged: As reported recently in the Journal Sentinel, the marker that shows where Elvis Presley in a karate stance stopped a fight in Madison in 1977 is now damaged.
As 40 years have passed, people sometimes use words like legend or myth about the time Elvis Presley jumped from his limousine at a Madison intersection, assumed a karate stance and halted a fight he spotted at a gas station.
"It really did occur. I was an eyewitness," said Bruce Frey, who was 20 years old on that night of June 24, 1977. Now he's 60 and a retired Madison Police Department detective.
Sadly in 2017 the metal plate bearing a description of what happened that day has been pried from the stone and taken away. But an image of Elvis, guitar in hand and a thank-you-very-much sneer on his lips, remained on the marker, suggesting to passers-by that he did something at that spot.
The marker has been at the spot for just 10 years, the actual gas station was closed and demolished a decade ago.
Elvis was a peacekeeper with perfect timing that night. And 53 days later, he was dead. See EIN's spotlight below.

Britney Spears' Elvis Birthday Performance: Britney Spears marked her 36th birthday this week by sharing a unique rendition of Elvis Presley's 'Can't Help Falling In Love' that was filmed in her festive home.
Britney noted, "I’ve always wanted to do a performance like this, singing in a pretty little black dress, with a simple 360, one take shot!"
"I figured since it was my birthday, why not go for it?!" "So boom... When the clock struck 12:00, I did it!!!"

"The Wonder Of You" 2018 Australia Tour changes: The "Back By Popular Demand" 2018 'Wonder Of You' Australian tour has been majorly altered by the local producers RCM Touring. They are no longer in April 2018 as planned and the locally-anticipated show in the new venue of Newcastle, NSW has been cancelled completely.
Now there are only the two shows in Sydney and Melbourne and the dates have been moved to August 2018, presumably to help link up with the excitement of Elvis Week.
Elvis will beam down from 'state of the art' video screens to give fans the closest possible experience to seeing The King "ELVIS" perform live.

When Elvis played Europe: While we all know Elvis was banned by Col Parker from performing any official concerts whilst over in Germany for his tour of Army duty, there are rumours that he did sing a couple of songs for some local workers at Micky Bar, Grafenwoehr. It is described in a recent article "Elvis’s only GI European concert" and a little display has been created in remembrance.

The German Grafenwoehr Training Area is known today as the largest U.S. Army training area in Europe, a place where artillery manoeuvre and fire alongside tanks and infantry.
Elvis Presley spent several weeks training on base here in 1958 after he was drafted into the Army. He returned for an encore to do manoeuvre training in 1960.
Elvis’s time in Grafenwoehr wasn’t spent only on training. The King left a lasting legacy on base and off, and he is still remembered as the most famous person to visit the area.
This month, Grafenwoehr’s Culture and Military Museum hosted a special exhibit on Elvis’ time in the area, complete with dozens of photographs of the King working with fellow soldiers at Camp Algiers, where he was based.
Elvis explained in an interview at the end of his stint, “People were expecting me to mess up, to goof up in one way or another. They thought I couldn’t take it and so forth, and I was determined to go to any limits to prove otherwise, not only to the people who were wondering, but to myself.”
In doing so, Elvis earned the respect of his fellow soldiers, including veterans of World War II, who previously viewed him as frivolous.

At Grafenwoehr, he sought to avoid the perception he was receiving special treatment, gaining a reputation for doing more than was asked of him.
According to a 1950s Stars and Stripes article, he began his first manoeuvre training in Grafenwoehr on Nov. 3, 1958, trading his suite near the base for a standard-issue GI tent, and roughing it in the field with the other soldiers. At the time, Pvt. Presley was a scout jeep driver for the 3rd Armored Division.
Yet, as much as the singer sought to be just a regular soldier, news of his presence spread to the surrounding area.
Waves of fans gathered at the base gates, hoping to catch a glimpse of the famous soldier.
Martin Hossl, who worked as a painter at the barracks, met Elvis. Despite his complaints about the girls, he got several autographs from Presley.
The Elvis exhibit at the Grafenwoehr museum featured a re-creation of Micky Bar, where the King performed his only concert outside North America.
A happening place where international bands performed, Micky Bar was run by the local Feiner family, who allowed Elvis’ father and friends to stay in the apartment upstairs.
As a way to say thank you, Elvis performed a private concert for the Feiner family and German workers at Micky Bar, singing such hits as “Hound Dog” and “My Happiness.”

Priscilla visits new Elvis-On-Tour London Exhibition: This week Priscilla was in London, for her contribution to the Elvis/RPO concert - and while there posed for photos at the recently opened 'Elvis On Tour' exhibition at the 02.
Posing for the tabloids she was even photographed holding one of Elvis' guitars.
Priscilla posed with some of the 200 artefacts from the Graceland archives that are on display, covering the touring-years of the King of Rock and Roll's life from 1969 to 1977.
Priscilla has been enjoying a rushed tour of London, promoting the new Christmas compilation Elvis/RPO album and tour on TV.
She also discussed the classic hit 'Blue Christmas' causing hysteria amongst parents and pastors when it was released in 1957.
She noted, 'When this was released in 1957 it wasn't received very well, it was seen that it was outrageous and degrading...
Now the album is revered because the teens of the day made it go to the top of the charts but parents told them they couldn't buy it.
Elvis didn't do it on purpose but he said when he was releasing it, it would be a little rock'n'roll."
Discussing how shy Elvis was, Priscilla added: 'He lived in his own world, we lived in his world, he often felt uncomfortable going out... but on stage that's the Elvis everyone saw.'

The Music Diaries – Rock, Roll, Religion – Elvis Presley’s Gospel Side Overlooked: Elvis Presley's early life and upbringing were grounded in poverty, after being born into a poor sharecropping family in Tupelo Mississippi on January 8, 1935. His depression-scarred father struggled to feed the family, and eventually had to move north in search of greener pastures in Memphis. It was there that Elvis became hooked on the music of pioneering black artistes being played on the radio, got immersed in black Memphis blues clubs, and absorbed the music of local impoverished black communities.
A roll call of Presley's close musical associates shows James Brown, bluesman B.B. King, Fats Domino, Sammy Davis Jr, Ray Charles, Rufus Thomas, Jackie Wilson, Johnny Mathis, Brook Benton, Billy Ward, Roy Hamilton and Mahalia Jackson - all negro artistes who have been photographed with Presley, and who have vouched to his non-racist leanings. |

The real Elvis Presley was a deeply religious individual who had a compelling propensity for singing hymns and recording gospel songs.
I'll bet that the flooding of the Memphis airwaves with both black and white gospel, and Presley's early attendances at gospel concerts, must have influenced his decision to get into the recording studio to do gospel songs.
His triple-CD compilation album of 2000, Peace In The Valley: The Complete Gospel Recordings debuted at number 13 on Billboard's Top Contemporary Christian album chart in January 2001. Among his early gospel releases were Take My Hand Precious Lord, It Is No Secret, If We Never Meet Again and Crying In The Chapel - all done between 1956 and 1960.
Although the Rock 'n' Roll King achieved so much in that genre, ironically, his only Grammy awards were for gospel, in the category of Best Sacred Performance. 'The Wonder Of You' Elvis UK Tour 2017 back in full swing: Following the sellout British arena tour in 2016 and the No.1 multi-platinum album The Wonder Of You, Elvis Presley's return to the UK ''The Wonder Of You' live concert experience is back in full swing.
The six date UK arena tour kicked off in Glasgow last Thursday before taking in Leeds and getting to Newcastle Arena last night 25th, while tomorrow it hits Birmingham Genting Arena (27th), then Manchester Arena (28th), with the finale at London's O2 Arena on November 30th.

6. Passengers - A Little Less Conversation
Imagine being stuck on an interstellar relocation cruise liner and being the only one that wakes up after the ship runs afoul of a meteor storm that the autopilot somehow missed. Ah well. You’d have virtually everything you’d ever want provided that you could somehow find a way to access it. Of course you’d be alone, but that would only be an issue after a few months, or years.
5. The Conjuring 2 - I Can’t Help Falling In Love
It seems like such an odd thing to see a song this positive stuck into a horror movie, but okay. The chances are good, I haven’t seen the movie, that this scene was intended as a way for the Warren’s to get to know the children they were there to help and put them a little more at ease so that they wouldn’t be so tense. If your home was haunted would you really care about a guy playing guitar? Just sayin’…
4. Forrest Gump - Hound Dog
Forrest Gump points out a lot of things throughout history that were in fact all caused or somehow came from the mind or actions of this one character. It’d be interesting if any of it were true but |

the film is such a playful and well-written piece that no one seemed to care that it was all staged and set up to make it look like Forrest had influenced so many aspects of history.
3. American Idol - Burnin’ Love
When just one won’t do, get another, maybe two, or maybe three more to perform an Elvis medley that will drive the crowd wild. Even after all this time and all that’s transpired since Elvis’ passing, yes, he is really gone, people still absolutely love his music. There’s a lot of reasons why after all and one of them is that he’s just that good, or was. Believe it, he’s gone folks.
2. The Blues Brothers - Jailhouse Rock
It’s hard to improve on a classic and I won’t say that the Blues Brothers manage to do that entirely, but this cover is pretty good. The Blues Brothers is a movie that is so utterly ridiculous and over the top that it couldn’t help but be funny. It’s one of the classics that people either love or can’t stand and has obtained a cult following for good reason.

Trying To Get To You: The Truth Behind The Elvis And Roy Orbison Show Rumours: For decades there has always been an unsubstantiated rumour that Elvis Presley appeared as a guest on Roy Orbison's TV show on the local station KOSA.
The Roy Orbison website notes that both Johnny Cash and Elvis Presley performed on Roy’s TV show in late 1955.
Respected author Colin Escott wrote in his book Good Rockin’ Tonight about a kinescope of Elvis on the Roy Orbison TV show actually existing.
Some keen Elvis fans have said that they have seen this very kinescope at Elvis Week shows back in the 80s.
But like infamous Pied Piper of Cleveland does this footage really exist and is there any real proof that Elvis did appear on the Roy Orbison TV show?

Elvis' Dr Feelgood Elias Ghanem: Elias Ghanem was a doctor to both Elvis Presley and Michael Jackson (need we say more?). He later became the chairman of Nevada's State Athletic Commission.
Dr. Ghanem was originally a Lebanese immigrant who went from being an emergency room doctor to a "physician to the stars". His patients also included Bill Cosby, Ann-Margaret and Barron Hilton.
Ghanem's part in Elvis' downfall is often overlooked due to the extreme focus being placed on Dr Nick.
Recently The Spa Guy has posted an interesting youtube video which takes you to the grave of Elvis' Dr Feelgood Elias Ghanem in Las Vegas and discusses the influence he had on Elvis.

| Interview - Elvis 02 Exhibition - Angie Marchese, Graceland Director of Archives: Following the success of the 2014/15 Elvis at the O2 exhibition, which attracted a staggering 200,000 visitors, Graceland have decided to return to London’s O2 Arena with the Elvis on Tour The Exhibition. The focus this time has been narrowed down to the period from 1969 – 1977 and over 200 items are included from the Graceland archive, including over 35 outfits, costume sketches and guitars that Elvis used onstage.
Zoey Goto, author of Elvis Style: From Zoot Suits to Jumpsuits visited the exhibition to meet with Graceland’s director of archives, Angie Marchese to discuss how the show was put together and Elvis’ unique style. Angie also discusses who had creative control of Elvis' on-stage fashions, the "must-see" item of the Exhibition and other artists that have been influenced by Elvis' striking fashion sense.

Dan Warlick Nashville attorney dies at 69: Dan Warlick (right) was the chief investigator for the medical examiner when on Aug. 16, 1977, rock 'n' roll legend Elvis Presley died. Shortly thereafter, Warlick would leave to become an attorney. He died on Nov. 16 at his home in Nashville.
Before relocating to Nashville, the former chief investigator for the Tennessee Office of the State Chief Medical Examiner resided in Memphis, where he was on duty the day Elvis Presley's body was found.
After arriving at the hospital to confirm Presley was dead, Warlick "went directly to Graceland" and joined homicide detectives as they photographed and investigated the scene.
Warlick, in medical school at the time, also participated in Presley's autopsy with medical examiner Dr. Jerry Francisco.
Dr, George Nichopoulos and his attorney, Dan Warlick, said drugs in Elvis' system were not at "toxic or lethal levels" when he died. "He died a natural death," said Warlick.

After beginning to work at a medical malpractice law firm in Memphis, Warlick eventually moved to Nashville, where he met Yarbrough.
In 1999 he sued Tammy Wynette's doctor for her wrongful death,
"Of course, Dan was perfect for that type of case, because he knew the medical side and the legal side," Yarbrough said.
Warlick was described as someone with "a tremendous sense of humor" who "really enjoyed life,"
Yarbrough noted Warlick's "brilliant mind and a deep concern for his clients."

'Elvis: Lake Tahoe '74' FTD In-Depth Review: 'ELVIS: Lake Tahoe ‘74' features another value-for-money double pack with two Dinner Shows from May 25 and May 26 1974. This a 2-CD 5” digipack release.
The setlist at Lake Tahoe this season was fine, and while the May 25, 1974 Dinner Show has been out as an audience recording, the May 26, 1974 Dinner Show is totally unreleased.
Although both concerts are "Dinner Shows" on May 26, with The Jackson 5 in the audience, Elvis was inspired and included several rarities - and pushed the band on with unexpected reprises.
Both concerts create a good combination - making this a great two-for-one release from FTD.

He suggests, "All good things must come to an end. Thankfully, all bad things must come to an end, too – and the new Christmas release should prove to be the end of the road of the RPO albums with Elvis."

Elvis' Birthday Celebration Graceland: EPE have announced their schedule for Elvis' Birthday celebrations January 5-8 2018. The schedule of events includes an Elvis Birthday Brunch, Elvis Birthday Proclamation Ceremony, Club Elvis and much more. Our special guests include Rex and Elisabeth Mansfield, who met Elvis during his time in the Army; Evelyn Helms, who was Elvis' junior high school classmate; and two of Elvis' co-stars, Larry Domasin and Victoria Paige Meyerink.
One of the highlights is "Graceland Evening Tour and Reception" - a special event featuring a private evening tour of Graceland decorated for the holidays plus a reception across the street at Elvis Presley’s Memphis. The reception will be a progressive event moving throughout the new complex. The special evening tour of Graceland Mansion will include the iPad tour and Elvis Christmas music playing throughout the mansion grounds. Raquel Welch talks Elvis: The gorgeous Raquel Welch is now 77-years-old and is still on TV as Rosa on UP TV’s family-friendly sitcom “Date My Dad.”
Keen Elvis fans will remember Raquel Welch worked with Elvis in 1964 in his movie “Roustabout”. (right in photo)
In 2017 Welch tells how she was surprised by Elvis when she met him on set.
“I first saw him when I was 14 in a concert performance in San Diego, along with a whole bunch of screaming teenagers, he was pretty irresistible. I was just all a flutter as a young girl. But when I finally did meet him on set, he just didn’t look the same. It looked like they cleaned him up.
"It was like white bread or something. It was not at all his kind of sassiness that he exhibited on stage. The way he wore his hair, the kind of clothes he wore, the way he moved. It was just all very polite now… What happened to the rebellious, sexy guy? I was so in love with him as a teenager.”
Welch would later see Presley again in Las Vegas, where he underwent another transformation.
“Later in Vegas Elvis was wearing a lot of studded jumpsuits. That was not the Elvis I was crazy about.

He still sounded like Elvis, but there was such a difference about it. He didn’t sound like he was 100 percent. It was more like he was doing it for all his fans. He enjoyed the adulation, obviously. But it didn’t seem to me like his involvement in the earlier part of his career was there. He didn’t have the passion anymore. He just performed a tremendous amount.”
Welch wondered if his non-stop performing schedule contributed to his early demise.
"They just had him on a treadmill all the time, repeating every wonderful thing that he did. And you could tell it was not fun for him anymore. It was a sad, sad thing that happened to him... I just think he was a nice Southern boy.”

2017 - Elvis Presley #4 Forbes Top-Earning Dead Celebrity: It is the second year
running that Elvis has been placed fourth in Forbes list of top-earning dead
celebrities.
Michael Jackson tops the list of highest-paid celebrities for the fifth year in a row, with earnings of $75 million. However this pales in comparison to his 2016 earnings of $825 million, the highest annual total for any entertainer dead or alive, mostly due to the sale of his half of the Sony/ATV catalogue. Jackson's $75 million tally puts him on par with the 17th best-paid living entertainer, Bruce Springsteen.
Elvis Presley finishes fourth with $35 million almost #10 million up from last year’s $27, thanks to the new $45 million Memphis entertainment complex and recently opened hotel The Guesthouse at Graceland.
Others on the list are Golf legend Arnold Palmer up to the No.2 spot with $40 million. Barely a year after his death, more than 400 stores still sell Palmer-branded apparel in Asia, and AriZona Beverages produces 400 million cans of its Arnold Palmer line annually. Peanuts creator Charles Schulz ranks third with income of $38 million, MetLife recently retired Snoopy and Charlie Brown from its ad campaigns, but the cartoonist’s contract does not expire until 2019.
Bob Marley rounds out the top five. Tom Petty who only died last month is (very sadly) at #6 with $20 million.
Other musicians also feature Prince at #7 and David Bowie at #11.

Millie Kirkham - Bob Hayden Interview for EIN: Millie Kirkham was one of Elvis' favourite back-up singers. Upon hearing her vocal on Ferlin Husky’s million selling 1957 hit record 'Gone' Elvis asked her to join in with The Jordanaires at his 1957 recording session. Millie Kirkham would work on Elvis' studio sessions through to 1967 and join him on-stage in Las Vegas for live performances including 1970's 'That's The Way It Is' filming.
As well as working with Elvis, Millie Kirkham worked closely with the Jordanaires on some of the most famous Nashville sessions including records by George Jones, Patsy Cline, Bobby Vinton, Jim Reeves, Charley Pride and Loretta Lynn.
Millie Kirkham was a little reluctant at first to do an interview as she had been mis-quoted in the past and had that fear of it happening again. She agreed to the Q & A after she was advised she would not be coming to Australia for the first "Elvis in Concert" tour.
Millie answered every question and seemed to be most happy and full of life for her age at that time.

Keith Alverson first saw Elvis in concert in the early 70s when he secretly smuggled in his small pocket camera to sneak a few photos of Elvis from there he went from strength to strength. One his first Elvis' concerts where he was able to get quality photos of Elvis in concert was Elvis in Atlanta, July 1973 after which he saw Elvis over 80 times live on stage.
Alverson's outstanding photos of Elvis in his "Phoenix" jumpsuits are known by every Elvis fan. With 1,500 photos this book concentrating on Elvis from 1973-1975 has the possibilty to be a real stunner.
With the book arriving a little late in Australia EIN's Piers Beagley has at last had the chance to discover whether the book really lives up to its publicity -- Hint - It really does!

Parkes Elvis Festival 2018 Program: Primp that pompadour, start swivelling those hips, and get ready to rock 'n' roll, the Australian Parkes Elvis Festival is back! From Wednesday Jan 10 to Sunday Jan 14, 2018, over 25,000 people will shake, rattle and roll into the small NSW country town of Parkes to celebrate the King of Rock 'n' Roll.

‘ELVIS: Studio Sessions 1956' In-Depth Review: MRS newest release, a massive 3CD/172 page book compilation "Elvis Studio Sessions ‘56 The Complete Recordings". The 172-page book, with text by Gordon Minto, focuses on each of Elvis’ studio recording sessions during his first year of national stardom - from the first one in January, held in Nashville, then later in New York, before finishing his final session of the year in Hollywood in September. The full and comprehensive text is complemented by rare and previously unseen photographs and pieces of documentation.
The 3CDs contain the complete archival master and session studio recordings of Elvis Presley from 1956, along with bonus interviews. All 90 tracks have been remastered and restored. Also for the first time on CD is the complete ‘The Truth About Me’ from an original US 45rpm flexi-disc. Also included are all the out-takes from this interview.

'Roustabout' FTD Soundtrack Review: Roustabout was Elvis' 16th movie, it had been five months since Elvis’ last album session and his publishers had a chance to secure soundtrack material from a variety of composers. Eleven songs were needed and while the carnival theme stopped most of them having any inspired lyrics, at least the composers Leiber / Stoller and Otis Blackwell were included in the selection.
Reaching #1 on Billboard in early 1965, it would Elvis’ last chart topping album until "Aloha From Elvis Via Satellite" in 1973.
53 years after its original release FTD is pleased to announce the long awaited "Classic Album" version of "Roustabout". Packaged in 7" format with a full colour 16-page memorabilia booklet, it contains some previously unreleased material.
So why has it taken FTD so long to release? It was once noted that only the masters had been located in the vaults, so there was not much to include for a “Classic Album”...

Close to forty years since Elvis checked out of Heartbreak Hotel, The King was back in the building and rocking Australian audiences at every venue.

Elvis Presley is a legend and although it’s almost been 40-years since his death, his music is still just as powerful and unfortunately for Australians, he never had the opportunity of touring Australia until now. Using past footage of Elvis from concerts and his films plus the live music from an orchestra and back-up singers, Elvis Presley the Wonder of You is a true concert spectacular that almost makes it feel like the King is actually performing.

performance. Although Elvis is no longer with us, Schilling creates a link for the audience. Matched with the exceptional orchestra and back-up singers, Elvis Presley the Wonder of You is quite a powerful performance which also tugs at your emotional heartstrings. Given that, it’s quite a loud experience!
Hearing Elvis performing American Trilogy with the live orchestra was definitely a wow moment and there’s plenty of them throughout the concert. Seeing the actual footage of Elvis on the giant screens not only showcased the talent of this man but also his wide range of vocals that becomes quite an immersive experience from start to finish. Songs such as Always On My Mind and You’ve Lost That Lovin’ Feelin are lifted to a new level thanks to the live music that not only pays homage to the original songs but creates a new experience for both new and old.

'ELVIS: Las Vegas ‘74' FTD Review: A double set featuring both Dinner and Midnight shows from August 20, 1974 from Elvis' legendary 1974 Summer Season at the Las Vegas Hilton.
For Elvis 1974 was an emotionally turbulent year. This was his sixth season singing to the Las Vegas casino audiences, still doing two shows a night, and he was really feeling the loss of Priscilla. Yet this inner turmoil helped produce the most fascinating Las Vegas season of his career. He gave some of his longest performances and with a varied set-list including great new songs It’s Midnight, Promised Land, If You Talk In Your Sleep and Help

One of the fascinations of this new double-pack is that it presents Elvis' second and third concerts by which time Elvis was back once again to the old regular set-list routine. Mindi Miller Interview with EIN: Mindi Miller was a working actress when she met Elvis in early 1975. She was interested in karate (she performed all her own movie stunts), exploring spirituality and the Bible and so they had a lot in common.
Mindi Miller and Elvis bonded over their common interests and soon afterwards he asked her to go on tour with him in April 1975.
She stayed friends with Elvis through the years - along with members of the 'Memphis Mafia' - and attended his funeral.

'Platinum: A Life In Music' Re-Release OUT NOW: Sony UK has re-released the classic 4-Cd set 'Platinum: A Life In Music'- in a small-book format twenty years after its first release in 1997.
The set chronicles the outstanding career of Elvis Presley (1954 to 1977) from a unique perspective and it includes 100 performances, 77 of which were previously unreleased in 1997. This historic overview traces his development as an artist and emphasizes how Elvis' music always returned to its unshakable core values. This 4-CD box set contains a 48-page book and consists mostly of previously unreleased alternate takes of Elvis Presley's hits.
There is no info on whether this 20th anniversary release includes audio upgrades of all the "77 were previously unreleased takes" which have since been remastered.

'Marty Lacker: A Life Well-Lived' & Elvis at American Studio's Interview: It was with immense sadness that last month EIN had to report on the death of our great friend - and a true friend to Elvis - Marty Lacker. We will miss him dearly.
Marty is well-known as one of the key members of the Memphis Mafia and also co-Best Man at Elvis' wedding. He was known for both his honesty and being forthright with his opinions. He was the only member of the Memphis Mafia who still watched and commented on recent Elvis News. He had no issue with holding people to account (especially ones who would inflate their importance within Elvis' legacy) and would regularly ask EIN to add his comments or to correct any inaccuracy.
Elvis fans often ask about Marty Lacker's background, how he came to meet Elvis, as well as his involvement in the music industry outside of working for The King.

UPDATED - 'Way Down In The Jungle Room' EIN Review: Released for August 2016 this SONY Legacy pack celebrates the 40th anniversary of Elvis’ last recording sessions which took place in Graceland’s Jungle Room.
The publicity noted the sessions “have been newly mixed by Matt Ross-Spang at Sam Phillips Recording” and “includes both outtakes and in-the-studio dialog, providing a ‘fly-on-the-wall experience’ of what the sessions were like".
Elvis' original 76/77 albums were fairly uninspired collections (bar a few fine singles) and on the original LPs it was almost impossible to glimpse any sign of creative input from Elvis through the syrupy overdubs. It wasn't until the release of FTD’s magnificent ‘The Jungle Room Sessions’ that many fans began to understand the raw emotion, close camaraderie and Elvis’ personal feelings that were revealed by these intimate Graceland sessions.
To produce that same kind of revelation for the 'General Public' would be a very tricky project but that is exactly what the new legacy team has done - and to great effect.

UPDATED - Paul Dowling EIN Interview Part Three: Paul Dowling is without doubt one of the major names in the Elvis World. He started collecting and selling Elvis vinyl over 40 years ago and has one of the world's largest Elvis Presley record collections. He started his "WorldWide Elvis" shop back in the seventies, way before the internet, where fans could get hold of rare Elvis records and memorabilia.

Did Elvis Record 'Tiger Man' At Sun?: A question that has puzzled Elvis fans through the years is whether he actually recorded the song ‘Tiger Man’ during his years at SUN studios.
The basic question is why did Elvis refer to 'Tiger man' several times in concert as “The second song that I ever recorded, not too many people heard it”?
And if Elvis DID record it, then why hasn’t any reference to it at SUN or proof of its existence been found?
Elvis would first perform ‘Tiger Man’ in concert at his first 1969 Las Vegas International season and would continue playing it through the years – usually in a medley with Mystery Train - until his last performance at Saginaw on May 3 1977. He would sing it over 150 times on stage!
The thought that there might be an acetate or undiscovered tape of Elvis at SUN singing ‘Tiger Man’ is a mouth-watering concept - but is it an unlikely fantasy or strong possibility?
