‘Elvis: That’s the Way It Is’ CINEMA Rescheduled to AUGUST 13: Trafalgar Releasing has announced the cinema re-release for “Elvis: That’s the Way It Is” - originally planned for April 22 worldwide - has now been rescheduled to AUGUST 13. .
The event will mark the 50th anniversary of the film’s original release by MGM. Most of the remastered footage was shot at the International Hotel in Las Vegas with songs including “Love Me Tender,” “Sweet Caroline,” “Heartbreak Hotel” and “Suspicious Minds.”
The film was directed by Denis Sanders.
On July 31, 1969, in Las Vegas Elvis Presley staged a triumphant return to the concert stage from which he had been absent for almost a decade.
Elvis' series of concerts broke all box office records and completely re-energised the career of the King of Rock 'n' Roll.
The film followed Elvis’s summer festival in Las Vegas during August 1970. An unmissable event for fans around the world. Elvis: That’s The Way It Is will be shown in the United Kingdom, the Republic of Ireland, Germany and Austria.

Elvis' Movies Rated! Earlier this week EIN suggested a way of enjoying the COVID19 lockdown was by watching one Elvis movie every single day. By the second time round the Lockdown will hopefully be gone if Wuhan's example in China can be replicated. It must be added that EIN is not suggesting that the 11 million people of Wuhan watched Elvis' movies twice during their lockdown, but what a fascinating experiment that would have been!
Elvis' 1950s movies are all respected by Elvis fans with King Creole often recognised as his best directed performance.
Elvis super-fan Roger Mogstad has posted his list of favourite Elvis films in a neat youtube clip.
He has rated them (as noted below) with King Creole, Jailhouse Rock, Change of Habit, Follow That Dream and Flaming Star as his top-five
In the past EIN's Nigel Paterson has discussed, "Why is it OK to openly enjoy an Elvis movie?"
... It is important to recognise that there is actually much to like about many Elvis films and the myth they are not good movies and were universally panned is actually incorrect. if you read the film reviews of the day you find that at least some major critics, while maybe not effusive in their praise, nevertheless recognised positive and enjoyable aspects in Elvis films.
Blue Hawaii has to be rated highly in the sense that is a very enjoyable film experience and of course it was the template for subsequent "Presley travelogues" and simply the most perfect of them all with its cool narrative, vibrantly colorful location, attractive cast, wonderful music and of course, Elvis.

From a film technical perspective, King Creole stands out with its visual style, use of long and close up shots, framing - I could go on. The Trouble With Girls was also neatly filmed with some great camera work.
Like art criticism, the problem with film criticism is that it is an intrinsically subjective and biased endeavour. For example, Tickle Me may have low production values and be derided by critics, but for many fans its wonderful mix of comedy and very strong music soundtrack make it a very enjoyable film to watch! So while a film may exhibit low production values it can still have value (an enjoyable viewing experience) for some or many viewers. That begs consideration of the different form 'value' can take in a film.
I am also a big fan of the 3rd period in Elvis' film career, the late 60s films when they gave Elvis an adult makeover. Despite its initial panning, Charro is more than a half-decent spaghetti western (a pity they censored the nudity and violence in it), Stay Away, Joe may be politically incorrect but is loads of fun to watch, Live A Little, Love A Little - my goodness Elvis is in bed with a woman! - an underrated, fun and funny sex farce, The Trouble With Girls a cumbersome title but a well-produced and costumed period piece albeit with slow narrative, and Change of Habit, now quite dated, but at the time a not unreasonable, if somewhat flawed attempt at socially aware drama.
So, why is it OK to openly enjoy an Elvis movie? Quite simply because they were, and continue to be, fun!! They contain a good balance of story, music, attractive locations, engaging characters, glorious color, and of course, plenty of Elvis! Even those Elvis films with scant musical content may not be Oscar candidates but are generally well made productions, clever and enjoyable to watch.

Survive Corona-Fever with Elvis; While there can be no ignoring the terrible situation we all find ourselves in, can it possibly be a coincidence that the original Wuhan epidemic faded after 62 days.
"Everybody's got the fever, That is something you all know. Fever isn't such a new thing, Fever started long ago"
ELVIS released 62 albums in his lifetime, stared in 31 films, while FTD have released sixty-two concerts on soundboards and FTD / Elvis Files and BoxCar have together published 62 deluxe ELVIS photo-books.
So, YES, we can all get through this lock-down period with a little help from Elvis.
The medical community have provided suggestions as to how to keep focused and enjoy these difficult times.
- Have a routine to keep you happy and occupied
a) Listen to each of Elvis' albums, one per day. If you have the FTD "Classic Album" versions this will be a double CD and occupy you for almost three hours.
b) Watch one Elvis movie per day - another 90 minutes (if it lasts 62 days you will have seen every film twice)
c) Listen to two Elvis Concerts on soundboard.
d) Thoroughly read through one FTD / Elvis Files / BoxCar deluxe book - another 90 minutes well spent. |

Once you have "walked the dog" and done some cleaning and shopping your day will be nearly done.

'Elvis That's The Way It Is' 50th Anniversary Cinema Screening Cancelled: Sadly the screening of “Elvis: That’s the Way It Is” for April 22 is also cancelled as cinemas become part of the worldwide coronavirus lock-down.

Graceland Now Closed: Perhaps a little late on the uptake, today EPE have announced that Graceland is closed.

Kenny Rogers Dead aged 81: Kenny Rogers was one of country-music's true crossover artists who featured on 30 Number One singles across the US pop, country and adult contemporary charts from 1977 to 1999. Rogers earned three Grammys along with membership in the Country Music Hall of Fame. He also charted internationally with some of his most enduring hits, including 'The Gambler,' 'Lucille,' and 'Islands in the Stream' a 1983 collaboration with Dolly Parton.
Over six decades Kenny Rogers recorded and performed always using his gravel-tinged vocals to dramatic effect. Along the way, he also became a globally recognized actor, photographer, businessman, and philanthropist.
Rogers final Nashville concert was in 2017. He died Friday night at age 81 from natural causes.
Born August 21st, 1938, Kenneth Ray Rogers was the fourth of eight children, raised in a public-housing project in Houston's Fourth Ward where, like Elvis, he was exposed to everything from jazz and R&B to pop and country.
Moving to Los Angeles, in 1967 Rogers formed "The First Edition" recording the classics 'Just Dropped In (to See What Condition My Condition Was In)' and Mel Tillis classic 'Ruby, Don't Take Your Love to Town'.

One of country music's first acts to sell out arenas, Rogers' 1980 Greatest Hits has since sold in excess of 24 million copies worldwide.
Rogers told Billboard magazine in 2000, "I've never considered myself a great singer but I am a great storyteller. I tried not to compromise. I did songs I believed in. If you do that you have to commit to it. That's what I think I've done best. I've believed in things and I've stuck to 'em."
Rogers has told the following story about meeting Elvis...
"Elvis was playing Vegas at the time and I was down there with my band. He'd catch my shows and I'd drop in on his. Pretty soon, we were buddying around.
I remember being backstage with him once. I told him I was going out front to enjoy a few games of blackjack and he was real anxious to have a game as well.
He said to me: 'Kenny, you don't know what I'd give to just go down to the gaming tables and play a few hands'. -
I said 'What's stopping you? Let's go right now'.
He just shook his head. His manager, Colonel Tom Parker, had him frightened of the public, which stopped him living a proper life.''
Priscilla was photographed with Kenny Rogers at the Country Music Awards show in 1979.
Rogers recorded 'I Can't Help Falling in Love' as well as 'Green, Green Grass Of Home'.
There is a suggestion that Rogers' song 'Sweet Music Man' was inspired by Elvis but it is more likely written about himself!
Note that a man that looks exactly like Kenny Rogers is seen in the TTWII 'After Party' MGM footage. EIN cannot understand why Rogers never mentioned this in later interviews if it was indeed him.

ELVIS Biopic Now Suspended Indefinitely: An update on the earlier ELVIS biopic story, now director Baz Luhrmann has announced that his upcoming Elvis movie will not be continuing production for a while.
The movie starring Austin Butler, Olivia DeJonge and Tom Hanks was shut down after Hanks was diagnosed with coronavirus.
Lurhmann posted, "I'm sure it will come as no surprise that this is not the moment to be resuming production on the film. Please know this is in no way a reflection on our commitment to make this movie here in Queensland. In fact, we are not even taking our sets down, simply locking up the creative space over the next few days.
I have spoken to the Queensland premier, Annastacia Palaszczuk, and we all agree that right now, this is the right time for people all over the world, from all walks of life, to be at home, indoors, with their loved ones - washing our hands five times a day.
All going well, we have a passionate conviction to be back here on the Gold Coast, picking up where we left off as soon as the time is right."
Tom Hanks posted an update on his situation, "Hey folks. Good news: One week after testing positive, in self-

isolation, the symptoms are much the same. No fever but the blahs. Folding the laundry and doing the dishes leads to a nap on the couch.

Record Store Day 2020 postponed until June: Yet another event postponed due to Coronavirus, with Record Store Day 2020 officially delayed until June
Originally scheduled to take place on 18th April, Record Store Day 2020 will now take place on 20th June, 2020.
Previously, David Bowie and U2 were among the first confirmed artists for the celebration of all things vinyl. A full list of RSD 2020 releases was announced last week.
Record Store Day stated, "We’ve decided that the best of all possible moves is to change the date of Record Store Day this year to Saturday, June 20.
We think this gives stores around the world the best chance to have a profitable, successful Record Store Day, while taking into consideration the recommendations of doctors, scientists and the need to be good citizens of both local and worldwide communities."

ELVIS Biopic Delayed by only two weeks: According to Film Australia Tom Hanks remains the only person involved in the Baz Luhrmann Elvis biopic to have contracted (COVID-19) Coronavirus.
A representative stated, "We have delayed our start date by approximately two weeks to allow for their full recovery."
Production should re-start in early April.
"We are aware of only the one case of the coronavirus amongst cast and crew and additionally the cast member's wife Rita Wilson.
Working closely with the Queensland Health Department we have delayed our start date by approximately two weeks to allow for their full recovery."
Tom Hanks had been on the country's Gold Coast for the pre-production of the biopic, in which he plays the music icon's long-time manager Colonel Parker.
(Once Upon a Time... in Hollywood's Austin Butler is playing Presley.)
Filming for the movie has been halted after both Hanks and his Wilson tested positive for the coronavirus.

Nashville Elvis Festival 2020 Cancelled: The Producers of Nashville Elvis Festival have wisely decided to cancel this year's festival.
Tom Brown & Brian Mayes note, "The safety and security of our audiences, talent, and staff is our top priority, so with heavy hearts we have regretfully decided to cancel the 4th annual Nashville Elvis Festival. We do so in an abundance of caution and in cooperation with President Trump's national emergency declaration earlier this week.
In light of cancelling Nashville Elvis Festival, we will be refunding ticket buyers and VIP pass holders for their purchases.
The need to cancel was not an easy decision, as it impacts many people throughout the Nashville community and Elvis family, including our dedicated staff, performers, partners and many more.

Baz Lurhmann’ ELVIS biopic production halted: After Tom Hanks tested positive for Covid19 a few days ago, the production on the ELVIS biopic he is shooting in Australia has now ground to a halt, according to reports. The 63-year-old is set to play Elvis’ manager Colonel Parker in the yet-to-be-titled film currently in pre-production on the Gold Coast. Despite his son Chet insisting his parents ‘aren’t even that sick’, the Lurhmann production is taking no risks.
Luhrmann has also told his cast and crew to stay at home saying that they faced a difficult situation but that the health and well-being of our entire company is our absolute focus at this time.
Other cast members include Maggie Gyllenhaal and Rufus Sewell as Elvis’s parents, Vernon and Gladys, Olivia DeJonge as Priscilla and Austin Butler as the man himself, Elvis.
In a statement Warner Bros noted, ‘We have been made aware that a company member from our Elvis film, which is currently in pre-production in Australia, has tested positive for COVID-19. We are working closely with the appropriate Australian health agencies to identify and contact anyone who may have come in direct contact with the individual'.
Tom Hanks has posted, "What to do next? The Medical Officials have protocols that must be followed. Not much more to it than a one-day-at-a-time approach. We’ll keep the world posted and updated. Take care of yourselves!’

Ann-Margret Talks Elvis: Elvis had complex relationships with women - not least of which was with Priscilla - but there was another woman who has arguably remained his only true ally in the years since his death.
ELVIS was the most famous man in the world during the 1960s but even then was no stranger to gossip, tabloids and controversy and since his death he has all too often been badly exposed by interviews from his various colleagues.
However one truly close friend, Ann-Margret has remained stoic in her determination to preserve Elvis' memory.
While Ann-Margret had an impressive career starring in a vast array of movies from Hollywood’s golden era it is her appearance alongside Elvis and their strong connection on and off the movie-set that has proved one of the most memorable.
In a delightful show of loyalty Ann-Margaret still refuses to talk about the details of her love-affair with Elvis.
In one interview CBS journalist Charlie Rose did his best to grill the star and Ann-Margret got visibly upset over the various interviews she’s read about her ex.
Her voice audibly shaking, the actress insists Elvis was a great and wonderfully “gifted” performer, describing him as one of the great men in her life.
Interviewer Rose begins: “It seems that there was about the two of you, kindred souls, something deep inside that you both knew that you both had, and it’s almost now as if you were trying to protect that.”
Ann-Margret replied, “Oh yes, it was extremely special, our relationship was |

very strong, and very serious and very real.
We went together for one year, and he trusted me, and I do not want to betray his trust even in death. I knew him very very well.”
There’s been so much written that has been negative about Elvis, I want to celebrate his life, the man that I knew.
He was so gifted, and it makes me extremely angry that all of a sudden all these people who made fun of him right near his death, all of a sudden posthumously right after he passed on, were writing reams and reams of stories about him, how gifted he was, why didn’t they do that when he was alive?"
In response to speculation if Elvis' friends had stepped up they could have saved his life, Ann-Margret tries to steer away.
“I just cherish his memory, and so did my father and my mom and my friends. And I remember the good times that we had, and his generosity."
Reflecting on all the years she received flowers shaped like a guitar in the post before her shows, Ann goes on to say she finds it so hard to talk about because she’s “real private”, and Presley “was too”.

Tom Hanks Catches Coronavirus: Tom Hanks and his wife Rita Wilson have unfortunately both tested positive for Coronavirus while working in Australia.
Hanks is starring as Colonel Parker in Baz Luhrmann's new ELVIS film and both of them have been put into isolation while they recover
The 63-year-old Academy Award-winning actor is currently in Queensland filming Luhrmann's currently untitled Elvis Presley production.
Hanks wrote on Instagram on Thursday that after he and Wilson had been feeling "a bit tired, like we had colds" and had been "found to be COVID19 positive".
"We felt a bit tired, like we had colds and some body aches, Rita had some chills that came and went. Slight fevers too. To play things right, as is needed in the world right now, we were tested for the coronavirus, and were found to be positive.

We Hanks' will be tested, observed, and isolated for as long as public health and safety requires. Not much more to it than a one-day-at-a-time approach."
Production on the Luhrmann film had been set to begin filming on Monday.
In a statement Warner Bros said, "The health and safety of our company members is always our top priority, and we are taking precautions to protect everyone who works on our productions around the world."

New FTD Releases: Two new FTD releases have been announced for later this month.
1. 'ELVIS: St. Louis & Spokane 1976' - As part of its ongoing live on tour series FTD is pleased to announce the release of 'ELVIS: St. Louis & Spokane'.
Released as a 2-CD 5” digi-pak, this set features Elvis at the Kiel Auditorium on March 22 1976 and The Coliseum on April 27 1976.
Both shows were "Closing Nights" of these short 1976 tours where Elvis would often go that little bit further for his loving fans.
Larrie Londin played drums with the TCB band from March 17 to March 22 1976 as well as on Elvis' final ever concerts June 25 & 26 1977.
It will be a treat for collectors to get an official release featuring 'A Different Beat' with Larrie Londin playing at St Louis on March 22, 1976.

Tony Curtis and Elvis: Recently Priscilla explained to the Hallmark channel about the connection between Elvis and actor Tony Curtis and how Elvis learned to keep looking youthful from Hollywood star Tony Curtis thanks to a little bit of makeup.
"Elvis always thought that that the eyes are so expressive.
When he was very young he was an usher at one of the theatres in Memphis.
And he would study all the actors who all had a real impact and longevity.
Tony Curtis was one. Observing Tony Curtis taught Elvis how to put a little black eyeliner, just a little bit, above his eye.
And that was a trick back in the day for men as well.
If you look at him you can see a little bit of shadow there and he thought it was just great.
Elvis loved the art of transitioning from what he saw as realistic to him to that extra dark look which gave it that punch.

So when I say he loved makeup, he loved eye makeup.
It was obvious how Elvis also loved the look of how Tony Curtis modelled his hair."

One day Curtis walked by Elvis' trailer on the lot and the door was open.
Tony Curtis noted, "I looked up, and there was Elvis and he grabs me and pulls me in.
And he said, 'Mr Curtis, I want you to know what a fan I am. I used to watch your movies in Tennessee.'
"And I said, 'Please, don't call me Mr Curtis.'

Priscilla Pushes to increase EPE Revenue: After the recent Rolling Stone article on future ELVIS EPE plans (see below), The Blast comments...
.. Elvis Presley's ex, Priscilla has been a busy woman over the past several months. Priscilla has been working every angle and idea possible to boost the income for the Presley estate.
ABG have been pumping out idea after idea on some major new Elvis Presley projects.

If you can name it then there is likely a product version for the Elvis Presley brand or one in the making. Just a few new Presley projects that are in the works include an Elvis Snapchat filter, a soon to be released Elvis favorite pets DVD and CBD infused Hound Dog treats for your pooch.
Those are just the tip of the iceberg in upcoming merch featuring the late King of Rock and Roll.
Priscilla shares her input on all things Elvis related. With an Elvis cartoon series underway for Netflix, the plan is to make Elvis gain in popularity with the younger crowds. It is going to be a very aggressive push. To date, the estate is estimated to be worth around $400 million.

The 2020 Elvis Week tickets offer several packages. The first the Limited Platinum Package costs $1600, while the Gold Package is $655. The Guest House Theatre Concert Package will cost you $121.
Fans have noted that ticket prices continue to rise and with Priscilla at the helm there are now numerous events and memorabilia museums of your choice.
At the rate the events and new attractions are unfolding it seems that EPE is turning Presley's once-beloved mansion into a major entertainment park.
While some fans are thrilled with the opportunity to tour and participate in everything Elvis, many others are not too happy with the price increases.

Jimmy Page 1974 Elvis Tour: Led Zeppelin’s legendary guitarist Jimmy Page posted a rare photo from 1974 from when he saw Elvis In concert.
Jimmy penned down a letter about the concert that he played with Robert Plant at the Pyramid Arena, Memphis in 1995. He also mentioned ‘Elvis Presley On Tour’ from May 11, 1974.
“On this day in 1995, Page and Plant played the Pyramid Arena, Memphis. Did not get the keys to the city, did not have to slip out of town, did not gain entry to Graceland but did play a great show in the memory of Elvis Presley, Scotty Moore, Bill Black, and D.J. Fontana.⠀

The L.A. Forum played host to some of the greatest shows Led Zeppelin ever put on, and it was also the place where, on May 11, 1974, the band came face to face with its greatest hero.
Robert Plant, Jimmy Page, and John Bonham were in LA for the launch of their record label Swan Song. The night after the launch party at the Bel Air Hotel, the band, minus bassist John Paul Jones, attended Elvis Presley’s concert at the Forum.

At some point ELVIS must have been alerted to the presence of the rock group in the audience because during the show he can be heard saying to his band, “Wait a minute. … If we can start together, fellas, because we’ve got Led Zeppelin out there. … Let’s try to look like we know what we’re doing, whether we do or not."
Led Zeppelin and the King shared the same promoter, Jerry Weintraub, who set up a meeting after the show between the two parties… Zeppelin’s and Presley’s paths would cross another two times in the ‘70s.”

Jerry Lee Lewis Recording a New LP: After a stroke last year robbed Jerry lee Lewis of use of his right hand, the Rock and Roll legend thought his piano-playing days were over. Now, at 84, he just recorded a new album and he's working with James Burton.
When Jerry Lee Lewis entered a Nashville recording studio late last month, he had no idea what was going to happen. He had not played music since February 2019, when he suffered a serious stroke at his home in Nesbit, Mississippi. Though his team described the stroke as "minor" at the time, it wasn't; Lewis was left with mobility issues, and those around him feared he wouldn't survive. Lewis was more concerned about whether he would ever be able to play the piano again; he spent three months in a rehab facility relearning to walk and trying to gain use of his right hand. It was a struggle.
Late last monththe 84-year-old Lewis booked a recording session, his first in more than five years, to see if he could still make music. with hits like "Whole Lotta Shakin' Goin' On" and "Great Balls of Fire." Before the session, Lewis told his team and producer T-Bone Burnett that he didn't want a piano in the room at all: his right hand wasn't working, and he just wanted to sing. But they kept one in the room just in case. When Lewis sat on its stool, he couldn't help but lift his right hand onto the keys. To his own surprise, his fingers started moving.
Lewis said, "I couldn't believe it, I couldn't believe it. I never experienced anything like that. There I was playing piano with my right hand. I thought I would never play again."
With his wife, Judith, sitting next to him, Lewis spent two days laying down tracks with a band that included guitarists Kenny Lovelace and James Burton, plus Lee Ann Womack and gospel legends the McCrary Sisters on backup vocals. After shaking off nerves, Lewis eventually loosened up; at one point, he told the band about the time, when he was a kid, he walked across a narrow bridge 150 feet above the Mississippi River on a dare. Though his vocals could be rough, there were flashes of his old power, and his piano playing remained loose, confident, and unmistakably the Killer.
Lewis doesn't hold back describing the pain of last year. "I've never experienced anything like it. It was very challenging, and it was a very emotional experience. I didn't know what was going on. I woke up in the hospital. And I just did some heavy praying, and tried to get back on the right track." |
After his successful return to the studio, Lewis has a new goal on his mind. He wants to be inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame, which usually announces its inductees in March.
Nowadays Lewis spends most of his time at home with his wife, taking it easy. Sometimes, he'll call Little Richard, one of the only other rock & roll innovators left. "Oh, I talk with Richard occasionally," Lewis says. "We talk about old times, and good times, and what's going on in our health. He's a good friend of mine."
Since Lewis lives near Memphis, occasionally he'll ride past Sun Records Studio, where he, Sam Phillips, Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Carl Perkins, and others started a musical revolution that still echoes through the culture today. "I go by there sometimes," Lewis says. What goes through his mind? "Precious memories," he says.

Queen and Adam Lambert perform Heartbreak Hotel: Elvis' Heartbreak Hotel has been covered in a surprise live performance by Queen and Adam Lambert during their Rhapsody tour when last week the trio performed their show at Melbourne’s AAMI Park. There lucky Australian fans were treated to a cover of Elvis Presley’s Heartbreak Hotel.
Queen's Brian May shared a video clip on Instagram of his guitar solo and Adam Lambert singing Elvis’ Heartbreak Hotel.
The 72-year-old wrote: “A little free wheelin’ tonight - on the ancient classic HeartBreak Hotel."
Heartbreak Hotel was a hit single for Elvis Presley in 1956, the single topped Billboard’s Top 100 chart for seven weeks and was Elvis’ first million-seller.

The plan to "reboot" Elvis ....and a 50th Anniversary boxset: With earnings declining over the past decade, the company responsible for licensing and marketing Elvis has big plans to make the King "cool" again. This fascinating article in Rolling Stone should be read by all fans. Here is an excerpt:
Elvis Presley may have died 43 years ago, but on a recent morning in midtown New York, plans are underway to resurrect him. In a conference room in the offices of Authentic Brands Group, the firm in charge of licensing and marketing Presley, executives are discussing the many projects they’ve been working on since taking over the estate in 2013.

There’s an Elvis filter on Snapchat, which gives you his face, pompadour, and bedazzled jacket. There’s a plan to release a video of Elvis and all of his beloved animals on the Dodo, a popular pet site (you will also be able to buy CBD-infused Hound Dog treats). There are film and TV projects, including Agent King, an offbeat animated series coming to Netflix next year. Co-created by Priscilla Presley, the show will aim for a BoJack Horseman feel, where a cartoon Elvis goes undercover as a crime-busting government spy. At the head of the table, CEO Jamie Salter confidently promises that next year will be “probably the biggest year in the history of Elvis Presley.”
These plans are all part of a major effort to make Presley cool again. More than 60 years after his first momentous sessions at Sun Records, his empire is in need of a reboot. While the Presley estate was annually pulling in $60 million a decade ago, that number has since fallen by 30 per cent, according to Forbes. Sales of memorabilia dropped from nearly $4 million in 2017 to less than $1.5 million last year, according to Invaluable, which tracks auction houses. This winter’s Elvis: Seen and Unseen tour, featuring surviving members of his TCB band playing along to video footage of Presley, was postponed, for the second time, due to “unforeseen circumstances” with the archival footage. According to The Guardian, a 2017 U.K. poll found that nearly 30 per cent of respondents ages 18 to 24 had never heard one of Presley’s songs.
Given that Presley was one of the first rock stars, the campaign to bring him back amounts to what one music executive calls a “canary in the coal mine” for the legacy of rock & roll. Can it possibly work, and what does it mean for the future careers and earnings of artists like the Beatles, Rolling Stones, and Bob Dylan, who followed Presley and who are now increasingly distant legends for those who grew up listening to hip-hop, pop, and EDM?

There are reasons for concern. Jeff Jampol, who represents the estates of Janis Joplin and the Ramones and also works with the surviving members and estates of the Doors, recalls a recent dinner with friends in their thirties and forties. "I said. "I'm going to the restroom now, and when I come back, I want the title of three Beatle songs, and you can't use your phones," he recalls. Upon his return, they told him they'd come up with one: "Daydream Believer," a hit by ... the Monkees. "That's where we are with the Beatles," Jampol sighs. "imagine where we are for anybody else."
In an office at Sony, Jackson is at work on a box set documenting the 50th anniversary of three intense days of 1970 Presley sessions, and he’s also in the midst of supplying master tapes for Luhrmann’s biopic. “There’s been no more beautiful of a human being than that, right there,” he says, pointing to a box set with a photo of peak Fifties Presley on its cover. “It needs to remind people that, ‘Look, that guy existed once." Surprising look in photo explained: This photo of members from the Official British Elvis fan club meeting Elvis was taken in 1973. Many people have commented on the demeanour of the woman in the photo. Michaela Doggett, a member of the Elvis TCB Group on Facebook, decided to find out the back story by contacting Todd Slaughter, head of the British fan club. This is the story:

"The woman in the picture is Vikki, my ex-wife who thought that Elvis should know how badly our fan club group was treated after all their tickets were cancelled by Emilio. We had 250 members in Memphis (1973) and we got a message from the Hilton saying that our group was not welcome, as they were taking up too many seats in their showroom so all our tickets would be cancelled. We had a reporter on the trip from the London Daily Mirror, so I, Tony Prince and Peter Muller from the Mirror flew to Vegas two days before the group was due to arrive to attempt to sort our the problem and we were treated like dirt by the Hilton staff. So Muller pretended to be from the BBC and put in a dummy phone call from the BBC in Washington to Bruce Banke at the Hilton - he was then their publicist.
When it came to meeting Elvis we were told by Esposito "no pictures, and no more than a minute". So Vikki anxious to get her message to Elvis said, "thanks for giving up a |

She was trying to help the fans in Vegas, but never got the chance to speak about their difficulties in getting tickets, and I doubt that he would have understood her strong Scottish accent. Having been made aware of the problem by Colonel, Elvis said the following night that we would be invited to see him after the show, but because of the ticket problem we had given away our tickets for that event to fans who hadn't seen Elvis - so we never heard the invitation until fan's returned to our hotel from the Hilton desperate to know what Elvis' suite was like." It made the general public aware that Elvis was still on top of his game. It showed that he wasn't on the oldies circuit. It showed Elvis performing with passion, feeling, and heart. He also shares his sense of humor. It showed that Elvis was a human being full of heart and soul.The prize-winner:Harrison Vetter: I am confident that the most important Elvis news of 2019 was the release of the "Elvis LIVE 1969" deluxe 11 CD box set. While some of the material has already been released on FTD or otherwise, the packaging wasn't necessarily the most impressive, and each concert featured pretty much the same setlist and script, there's no doubt that hearing Elvis at his untamed, electric best in great sound and all in one place makes any shortcomings fade into the background like Charlie Hodge fetching Elvis' guitar after “See See Rider”.
Nowhere else do we get to listen to our man rock out to “Suspicious Minds” for 7 minutes, or hear him give even “Jailhouse Rock/Don't Be Cruel” similar treatment. These 11 Vegas '69 shows, unedited and in their entirety, are mixed and mastered superbly - each one is clear as a bell. With Elvis giving it his all, as only he can, the King was back on top: this was a demonstration of pure rock 'n roll at its finest by the King himself. Raw and unleashed when rocking, smooth and emotive when crooning and eliciting shrieks out of the ladies - Elvis was polished and in total control. He had the audience on a string.Elvis was having fun on stage, and pretty soon everyone else in the building was too. With James Burton as good as ever and Ronnie Tutt driving the show, the TCB band was hot, tight, and picking up on Elvis' every move. It's exciting to experience everyone coming together, better and better each show.
If you ever wondered whether Elvis was a one-trick pony, a mere puppet of the Colonel, overrated - whether he truly is the King - this set casts all doubts aside. Now if only we could hear some of the July rehearsals!

‘Elvis: That’s the Way It Is’ CINEMA Re-Release April 22 BOOK YOUR TICKETS NOW: Trafalgar Releasing has announced the cinema re-release for “Elvis: That’s the Way It Is” for April 22 worldwide in 14 countries.
The event will mark the 50th anniversary of the film’s original release by MGM. Most of the remastered footage was shot at the International Hotel in Las Vegas with songs including “Love Me Tender,” “Sweet Caroline,” “Heartbreak Hotel” and “Suspicious Minds.”
The film was directed by Denis Sanders.
On July 31, 1969, in Las Vegas Elvis Presley staged a triumphant return to the concert stage from which he had been absent for almost a decade.
Elvis' series of concerts broke all box office records and completely re-energised the career of the King of Rock 'n' Roll.

Fans outraged by Elvis Week 2020 Prices: Colonel Parker may have been a total scoundrel but he always knew where Elvis' true fan-base was and rightfully kept ticket prices affordable. A front row ticket to see an Elvis concert in 1977 cost just US$15 - which is US$70 in today's value.
Now EPE is suggesting that fans pay $750 each to their exclusive 'Down In The Jungle Room' event and fans are rightly outraged.
While of course it is a unique event, surely this should be selected via a ballot or random selection from Graceland visitors on the day. It should be fair for all and not for just the super-rich.
In the same way to join the "Graceland Guest House Founders" was priced at up to $30,000 this Jungle Room event is surely nothing that ELVIS would have agreed to.

Similarly there is no way that EPE will be bringing in the complete RCA recording set-up that was used back in 1976. - And EPE are repeating this money-grabbing trick twice!

Justin Bieber beats Elvis as youngest solo artiste with 7 No 1 records: Elvis was 26 when he managed the feat of seven Number 1 albums on the Billboard charts while Bieber’s achievement happened just shy of his own 26th birthday.
Justin Bieber has gone from teenage heartthrob to record-breaker. With his latest album Changes reaching the top spot of the Billboard Hot 200 chart, Bieber is now the youngest solo artiste in history to have seven records reach the coveted No 1 spot, according to Billboard.
ELVIS had previously set the record in 1961 with Blue Hawaii at the age of 26 while Bieber’s achievement happened just shy of his own 26th birthday, which is March 1.
Worth noting (apart from the ease of Bieber being discovered via YouTube at age 13, whereas in the fifties you had to slog around nightclubs and school-hops to get noticed) is that Bieber had his first Number 1 album age 16, whereas Elvis had to |

get signed nationally by RCA to be able to release his first Number 1 album at age 21.
ELVIS managed seven Number One Billboard albums within 5 years. This record is still unbroken.
It still is a big achievement to be sure, but Bieber was a little mellow when it came to celebrating the news.
Bieber simply said that he felt “grateful” and on Instagram, he simply wrote “thank you”.
Bieber is of course a big Elvis fan and thanked EPE for acknowledging his success -

Elvis Collingwood Festival has left the building!: After various submissions and rumours the Collingwood Elvis Festival 2020 is no more.
The town officially ran out of expressions of interest for the 2020 Elvis Festival when the third and final group that expressed interest in running the Collingwood Elvis Festival withdrew its application.
According to a notice posted on the town’s website, the final proponent said they were unable to secure the talent required for a successful event, and were unable to license the festival for their “desired weekend.”
Previously the town itself had funded and run the annual Collingwood Elvis Festival but decided to cease operating the Festival after the 2019 event, which was the 25th annual festival in Collingwood.
The town however offered a permit for a third-party to operate the festival. The permit could be issued on a first- |

come, first-served basis provided the proponent met the requirements.
The town received three applications and has received three withdrawals from those proponents since January.
The town had placed a hold on the Eddie Bush Memorial Arena to ensure a proponent could rent the facility for July 24-26.
As of yesterday, that hold was removed, according to the town’s website.
Sadly it seems that the long-running and popular festival may be no more

Elvis Week 2020 Announced: Graceland has announced the initial plans for Elvis Week 2020 which will mark the 43rd anniv of Elvis’ passing.
The cornerstone event, the CANDLELIGHT VIGIL, will begin on Saturday, August 15, at Graceland’s front gate. Elvis music sets the tone of the evening as fans walk up the driveway to the Meditation Garden.
New this year, an exclusive DOWN IN THE JUNGLE ROOM EXPERIENCE will allow a small group of fans to step into the Jungle Room with some of the musicians who were there for Elvis’ 1976 recording sessions and hear their stories of what it was like to record with Elvis there. Special guests include guitarist James Burton, piano player David Briggs, drummer Ronnie Tutt and bassist Norbert Putnam. In addition guests will enjoy a rare photo opportunity inside the Jungle Room with Elvis' musicians.

Sign petition to reinstate Elvis' name on the USS Arizona sign: Stefan Demarest has started this petition on Facebook. Stefan says: The goal of this petition is to reinstate Elvis' name on the "USS Arizona Memorial" in Pearl Harbour - Hawaii... Elvis' name was removed from the memorial because of his alleged abuse of prescribed medication! This removal is an insult to the memory and legacy of Elvis Presley! Elvis helped to raise the funds to finish the construction of the memorial by doing a benefit concert in 1961. Elvis should be acknowledged and his name should be reinstated!!!!! Engelbert talks about Elvis: Music icon, Engelbert Humperdinck was recently interviewed by Star News Online. Several questions and answers will be of interest to EIN readers. How did you meet Elvis Presley?
He came to see my show at the Riviera (in Las Vegas) and he came in done up to the nines -- he was wearing his cape and everything. Of course I found out he was in (the room) and I was very nervous. I introduced him, he stood up on the table and opened his cape, and the audience went berserk for 10 minutes. I’m not joking. He stopped the show for 10 minutes! But afterward we became great friends. He taught me stagecraft, humility and not to take yourself too seriously.
It is true that Bruno Mars performed for you when he was the world’s youngest Elvis?
Yes it is. Many years ago my fan club had a party and the entertainment was a little 5-year-old boy -- Bruno (EIN note: dressed in an Elvis jumpsuit, young Bruno did a mean Elvis!...see below). I said to him then, “Young man, you are going to be a big star.” Well, he’s not a big star, he’s a megastar. |

You mentioned learning some stagecraft from Elvis. Are there other entertainers who influenced you?
I learned a lot from watching Ray Charles, and Dean Martin. Dean was one of my favorite entertainers. He was another guy who never took himself too seriously.
Have you ever met any descendants of the other Engelbert Humperdinck- the 19th century German composer?
No, but I was asked the other day if I wrote (the 19th-century Humperdinck opera) “Hansel und Gretel.” I said, “Are you crazy? You’re talking about something that was written in 1893.” (News, Source: Star News Online)

Rare Elvis Vinyl collectable: In 2016, Dead or Alive's fourth studio album 'Nude' (originally released in 1988) by the electronic/punk artist, was reissued on 12" LP. Due to a production error initial copies of the album, while saying Dead or Alive on the record labels, had as one side, Elvis and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra from The Wonder of You album. Only a limited number of the incorrect pressings were circulated before copies were recalled and the correct pressing issued. Collectors should be on the look out for the errant edition.

Danzig Sings Elvis set for April release: Glenn Danzig's long-awaited collection of Elvis Presley covers, appropriately titled "Danzig Sings Elvis", is scheduled for an April 17 release.
Tracks set to appear on the effort include "Is It So Strange", "Loving Arms" and "One Night". Two live shows in support of "Danzig Sings Elvis" will be announced next week for Los Angeles and San Francisco.
Set to take place in late April, these will be small, intimate seated performances as Glenn wants to try to capture an old Las Vegas night club atmosphere.
In 2018, Danzig spoke to Full Metal Jackie's nationally syndicated radio show about why it has taken him so long to complete "Danzig Sings Elvis".
"Every time I'd have downtime, or if I was working on soundtrack stuff, I would just record another Elvis track or two... So what started out as an EP, I now

have more than enough for a full album; I have extra songs that won't even make it on the record. So I'm really gonna have to sit down and pick the songs that I really want on the record. But it came out really good; I can't wait for everyone to hear it. A lot of people ask me about it all the time when I'm on the road. So it will be nice to get it out." Danzig previously covered Presley's "Trouble" on his eponymous band's "Thrall-Demonsweatlive" EP in 1993. He also recorded a version of "Let Yourself Go" for 2015's "Skeletons".
"Elvis is actually kind of how I got into music," Glenn told Rolling Stone in 2015 interview. "When I was a kid, I was cutting school pretending I was sick and I would lie at home watching old movies, and 'Jailhouse Rock' came on with Elvis. I was, like, 'I want to do this. This is great.' And that's how I veered to music."
Regarding how he came to cover "Let Yourself Go", Danzig said: "It's a song that a lot of people may or may not be familiar with, but he actually liked it so much he put it on the '68 Comeback Special'. It's just a cool song I've always liked. I knew I could do something really cool with it. I didn't want to do the obvious Elvis song, you know? You don't have to highlight an Elvis song, everyone's heard them, this is just probably a lesser known song of his thousands of songs that everybody knows. I like his delivery, his voice. He's not just standing there, he's moving around. I like that. I don't like singers who just stand there. It's boring to me. I like singers who are really getting into it and showing you they're getting into it. I think he has all of that."
Danzig was formed in 1987 after Glenn's involvement with horror-punks the MISFITS and gothic hard rockers SAMHAIN. Danzig Sings Elvis will be available in both CD and vinyl format. Beginning in the mid-1970s, Danzig's musical career has encompassed a number of genres through the years, including punk rock, heavy metal, industrial, blues and classical music. Yola to play sister Rosetta Tharpe in upcoming Elvis film bio: British musician Yola will play singer Sister Rosetta Tharpe — dubbed the Godmother of rock and roll — in Baz Luhrmann’s musical drama ELVIS. The film so far stars Austin Butler in the title role, Tom Hanks as Col Tom Parker, Maggie Gyllenhaal as Presley’s mother and Rufus Sewell as his father. Luhrmann co-wrote the script with Craig Pearce and Sam Bromell. The movie revolves around the veteran manager and the young singer, who came from dirt-poor origins to become an icon who changed the course of music history.

EPE loses another appeal against the Memphis Grizzlies: Elvis Presley Enterprises lost in the Tennessee Court of Appeals this week, again. In December, the company that owns Graceland lost its appeal of a lawsuit against the Memphis Grizzlies, which it had accused of interfering with its efforts to secure incentives for a small arena at Graceland. And, on Tuesday, that same appeals court declined to rehear the case.
"After a careful review of Appellant's arguments and Appellee's responses, the petition for rehearing is respectfully denied," the appeals court wrote.
EPE has been stymied in its pursuit of public tax incentives for its arena. However, there is nothing stopping it from building such an arena with private funds. It continues to host concerts at the Graceland Soundstage.

‘Elvis: That’s the Way It Is’ CINEMA Re-Release April 22: Trafalgar Releasing has announced the cinema re-release for “Elvis: That’s the Way It Is” for April 22 worldwide in 14 countries.
The event will mark the 50th anniversary of the film’s original release by MGM. Most of the remastered footage was shot at the International Hotel in Las Vegas with songs including “Love Me Tender,” “Sweet Caroline,” “Heartbreak Hotel” and “Suspicious Minds.”
The film was directed by Denis Sanders.
On July 31, 1969, in Las Vegas Elvis Presley staged a triumphant return to the concert stage from which he had been absent for almost a decade.
Elvis' series of concerts broke all box office records and completely re-energised the career of the King of Rock 'n' Roll.
The film followed Elvis’s summer festival in Las Vegas during August 1970. Now 'Elvis: That’s The Way It Is' returns to cinemas worldwide for one night only on April 22, 2020. An unmissable event for fans around the world.

ELVIS' Billboard Charts NOTE: Earlier this week EIN featured the news that "ELVIS still #3 for Billboard's Hot 100 Top 40" as rapper Lil Wayne had recently passed Elvis Presley for the second-most hits on Billboard's Hot 100 Top 40.
As many EIN readers reminded us, Billboard OFFICIALLY counts their statistics from 1958 when the charts were officially formatted.
Elvis' Golden Era which changed the history of popular music were, of course, in the years 1956 and 1957 previous to these collated statistics.
ELVIS in reality has 115 Billboard Top 40 hits, the last one being the 'Blue Christmas' single re-entry, Christmas 2018.
So, ELVIS still is Number One over 42 years after his death.

New FTD Releases OUT NOW: The two new FTD releases are heading to your local Elvis dealer.
1. 'Elvis In California' Double-soundboard, a 2-CD 5” digi-pak, this set features Elvis touring during May 1974.
Elvis' 10th tour was short, five concerts in California over four days the most famous being his two 'Forum of Inglewood' concerts on May 11, 1974. (As released on FTD 'Live in LA')
Elvis was in good form. The local review of Elvis' first concert there included, "Above all Elvis Presley knows what the faithful want and he bowls them over with his style. That's why he was a sellout at the Swing last night, will be on Monday night when he returns, and sells out wherever he performs.
"I'm a cement mixer, baby," he snarls at the screamers, "a churning urn of burning funk." Believe it."
The shows, taken from the original soundboard tapes, feature unreleased concerts from Selland Arena, Fresno (May 12) and Swing Auditorium, San Bernadino (May 10 & 13).
The set-list is familiar early 1974 material including, Steamroller Blues, Help Me, Funny How Time Slips Away and Big Boss Man.

Recorded during the marathon sessions held in Nashville, June 4-8, 1970, the original LP became the last album of utilising songs recorded during that week.
This new 180-gram heavyweight vinyl edition mastered at Abbey Road in London.

Rufus Sewell to play Vernon Presley: Pre-production continues on Baz Luhrman’s ELVIS biopic as another name is added to the film’s cast. Rufus Sewell (Judy, A Knight’s Tale, The Man in the High Castle) has joined the Elvis biopic as The King’s “reserved, soft-spoken” father Vernon Presley.
The story, staring Austin Butler, will follow Elvis and his “elevation to a level of stardom and celebrity set against an evolving cultural landscape and loss of innocence in America.”
Rufus Sewell’s role will be a significant one as Vernon Presley was a proud supporter of his son and would also manage his business affairs in an office behind the famous Graceland mansion. Vernon was also keen on Col Parker (Tom Hanks) and his love of money. However, coming from a poor background, Vernon was famously insecure and often worried about losing |

their fortune and going back to the poor lifestyle they led before.
Tom Hanks plays Col Tom Parker noted as "a man who would end up betraying Elvis and taking advantage of his stardom".

EIN notes that the world population in 2020 is TWICE the world's population in 1970 and records are now "One Click Away". The real news is that ELVIS, who passed away in 1977, is still at #3 on the Billboard chart. In 1977 you had to travel to a Record Store and buy VINYL!
Only Drake has more Top 40 hits with an even 100.
Taylor Swift is a distant fourth, with 63 hits and Elton John rounds out the top five with 57.
Lil Wayne has sold over 100 million records worldwide, including more than 15 million albums and 37 million digital tracks in the United States, making him one of the world's best-selling music artists.

'Elvis Day By Day 2019' Book Review: 2019 was a year of many celebrations. It marked the 50th anniversary of Elvis Presley's triumphant return to live performing and the release of two of his most iconic recordings, "Suspicious Minds" and “In The Ghetto”.
Sadly 2019 also marked the 42nd anniversary of his untimely death - yet his cultural impact may very well have been more visible and ‘alive’ during the last 42 years than when he was actually alive. And so is the Elvis-world today.

'Speedway / Stay Away Joe' New "Double Features" Book: Just when you thought "Elvis Files" Erik Lorentzen might be retiring he has announced a brand new book - a "Double Features" special on Speedway and Stay Away Joe.
The book features hundreds of movie and "Behind The Scenes" previously unpublished images.
Lorentzen told EIN, "I had planned to retire after the TTWII Box Set but after getting my hands on another set of hundreds of unseen photos I have decided to do at least two more.
I was afraid that if I did not publish this book, the photos will be unseen forever, and I can't stand that thought. Beside, I love what I'm doing !
As with most of my books there are several writers and reviews involved but most of all it is about ALL THE UNSEEN photos.
Of the 400 or so photos in the book and around 300 of them are 100% unseen."
All the photographers are taken from original negatives and slides. More previews coming soon The book will be published as a 2020 "Easter Special"

'Elvis: Stories behind the Songs (Volume 2)' New Book: Elvis super-fan and BBC presenter Matt Shepherd has announced his new book 'Elvis Presley: Stories behind the Songs (Volume 2)' to be published 31 March 2020.
This second volume begins 60 years ago when Elvis Presley returns from the army, wondering if he still has a career and massive fan base after being away for two years.
He needn't have worried himself, the fans lapped up his new and more ambitious recordings. Songs like It's Now or Never, Return to Sender and many more sold in their millions proving the King was back!
Although many of Elvis' countless solid gold hits feature in the book, the author is also keen to explore the lesser-known album tracks including the hugely underrated album Elvis is Back which came out 60 years ago this year (2020).
I hope the reader will look at each song in a different light maybe they will go and play the lesser heard songs and appreciate them in a whole different way after reading the story behind that particular track.

Graceland Lights Up Red for Women: Graceland lights up red for women in support of the American Heart Association from Friday, February 7. The mansion will be illuminated red at night to raise awareness of heart disease among women through Monday, February 17.
The Go Red For Women campaign encourages awareness of the issue of women and heart disease, and also action to save more lives.
The movement harnesses the energy, passion and power women have to band together and collectively wipe out heart disease.
It challenges them to know their risk for heart disease and take action to reduce their personal risk.
It also gives them the tools they need to lead a heart-healthy life.

New book: 'Elvis 1960 March 7 to March 31': Paul Belard's latest photobook from Linden Press has just been released. The 200-page softcover chronicles in photographic and archival form Elvis' return to Memphis after his stay in the army. It starts with the afternoon conference in Graceland and ends with the recording of the Frank Sinatra show in Miami. Linden Press expects to release Paul Belard's visual record of Elvis' first appearance on the Ed Sullivan Show next month.

Maggie Gyllenhaal to play Gladys Presley in Baz Luhrmann Elvis biopic: The Warner Bros film stars Austin Butler in the title role and Tom Hanks as Elvis Presley’s manger, Colonel Tom Parker.
Luhrmann co-wrote the script with Craig Pearce. The movie revolves around the veteran manager and the young singer, who came from dirt-poor origins to become an icon who changed the course of music history.
Throughout his career, Presley talked about his devotion to his mother, constantly calling her his number one girl. The close relationship is said to have continued when the musician’s career took off and during Gladys’ bout of depression due to his time away from home.
Gyllenhaal just wrapped the final season of her critically acclaimed HBO drama series “The Deuce.” On the film side, Gyllenhaal was most recently seen in Netflix pic “The Kindergarten Teacher” -

Sam Thompson Talks Elvis: The Uk tabloid The Express is once again featuring Elvis.
Elvis' former bodyguard has lots of funny stories about his time working for Elvis in the 1970s, but it was the personal one-on-one times with the man behind the icon that he really cherishes
Speaking with Spa Guy last year, Thompson spoke of visiting Elvis’ birthplace and where he grew up in Tupelo along with Elvis.
Thompson said, “We drove right through Tupelo and Elvis said, ‘This is where I grew up’.
And we drove by his house and he said, ‘That was my house’.
Just me and him in the car and nobody even noticed us.”
It's little moments like that where you forget this man can stand in front of 20,000 people and mesmerise them.
This was a human being, a person.”
"Elvis would say, ‘Nobody really knows who I am.’
And I said: ‘Elvis, people love you man! They love you. They know you all over the world.’
He said: ‘No, no, no. They know that guy on the stage. They don’t know me.’”
And it’s really true, you have to become another person when you’re performing like that.
And that’s what he was on the stage. But he was a different person when you could just sit and talk with him.
“That’s the guy that I miss and those are my most cherished moments.”

NOW UPDATED - 'ELVIS In The 2010s' A Personal Review of the Past Decade: Rather like Elvis’s own career, each decade since Elvis’s death appears to have had a theme or identity of its own. Clearly the late 1970s were difficult for RCA as they struggled to find the right direction with which to take their posthumous releases, and so it was the 1980s that was the decade when the company slowly but surely learned how to look back at Elvis's legacy and start to make some sense of it.
The 1990s were when that reached a peak, with the decades boxed sets, and the Elvis in the 90s series, thus bringing virtually the whole catalogue back into print in a coherent way.
The 2000s were when errors of judgement at retail level started to occur (despite huge successes like Elv1s), but also when FTD came into its own and flourished.
And so what will we make of Elvis releases of the 2010s when we look back on them from the future?

The latest Venus Productions multimedia set revisits this tour with a composite book, DVD and CD set. The DVD promises a qualified revamp of "Elvis On Tour" compiled from hours of unreleased footage taken from the best sources available - while the CDs include the never-before-released Hampton Roads Afternoon Show from April 9, 1972 plus an unreleased alternate mix of Elvis' Greensboro April 14, 1972 concert.

Baz Luhrmann' ELVIS movie update: Priscilla and Jerry Schilling recently supplied a few more details about the up-coming Baz Luhrmann' ELVIS movie.
While in the UK for Elvis Seen/Unseen Priscilla revealed how she’s met with Baz and given him some feedback on the movie.
“I’m involved as much as Baz will let me be involved because he’s learning as he’s going along.
I also asked Jerry come to my house and visit with Baz.”
Baz told us both what he had in mind and of course as it is "Baz Luhrmann" it is going to be very stylised - and not just a regular biopic.
I met him in Memphis and he brought Austin Butler over, who is playing Elvis, to meet me.
I am meeting with Austin soon, back in LA. He is sending me the script when they finish up the little details. So he has me pretty much involved.”

“I don’t know. I will be in it, of course, but I have no idea yet because I haven’t seen the script yet.

Schilling added, "Tom Hanks is playing Col Parker and he’s the easy-to-go-to bad guy. But he was actually quite a special guy. A good human being. (EIN - Surely NOT!) There might have been differences, but they were creative.
But Colonel Parker is, I think, the most undeveloped personality in rock-and-roll history, and the most interesting. He’s like the PT Barnum of rock-and-roll.”

'ELVIS: The 1972 Press-Conference - The Way It Was and How It Is Today': It is almost 50 years since Elvis held his Madison Square Garden 1972 press conference in the Mercury Ballroom at the New York Hilton.
Elvis is no longer with us but his spirit lives forever. Elvis fans always discover something quite magical when they get the chance to “Walk-a-mile-in-his-shoes” or at least stand in the same rooms and places that Elvis did. Graceland, when not overrun by crowds, feels very special indeed. Standing in the quiet you can almost feel the spirit of Elvis still inhabiting his home. The feeling in Memphis’ Sun Studios can bring fans to tears.
After his 2017 visit to the Las Vegas International / Hilton Hotel, EIN contributor Arjan Deelen recently returned to New York and the Mercury Ballroom, home of Elvis' famous 1972 'M.S.G' press conference.
"The image is one thing, and the human being is another”… a well-known Elvis quote from his press-conference at the Mercury Ballroom in the New York Hilton, on June 9th, 1972. At the time Elvis gave us a brief glimpse of the pressures that he was living under being Elvis, even adding, “It’s very hard to live up to an image, I’ll tell you”.

Featuring a delicious selection of Elvis' studio work from 1957 until he he got "drafted & shafted" in 1958, this album basically features all his studio recordings - except for the movie soundtracks and the ubiquitous Christmas album. From 'All Shook Up' to 'I Got Stung' Elvis was riding a creative peak. With a limited pressing of 1,000 copies, 400 in Clear Vinyl and 600 in Black vinyl this is a treat. 'The Blue Hawaii Sessions' FTD confirmed: FTD's Ernst Jørgensen has confirmed with EIN that the expanded deluxe FTD release of 'The Blue Hawaii Sessions' is already being worked on.
Jørgensen notes that FTD do not like to announce future releases anymore since this only makes bootleggers rush in to bang-out poorer quality copy-cat product.
"We are normally working on a handful of these projects simultaneously" he adds. EIN notes that with all the on-going debate about the recent "Venus" (really?) issue of their 'Mele Mai Ka Lani Mai' 'Blue-Hawaii sessions' (without the advertised "Top-Notch" sound!) it is good to know that fans of quality session releases can wait for the FTD version. In this circumstance, where the bootleg is already out, EIN thinks it is a real positive that FTD let fans know their sessions product will be released in the near-future.

Los Angeles International airport in order to start work on his first
film role, The Reno Brothers soon to be renamed 'Love Me Tender'.
Elvis was only 21 years old and at the start of his incredible trajectory to become the world's biggest superstar.
Little did Elvis know that he was already halfway through his all too-short life on earth.
In the same month Elvis would tell fans, "I've been lucky. You know something? I just feel sometimes like it's all a dream, like I'll rub my eyes and wake up and it will be over. I hope not. I hope it never happens. I hope it never ends"
Sadly, just 21 years later, it would end far too soon.
Forty two years on we all are once again thinking about tragic end to Elvis' incredible life and how much he did for us in his all too short life-time.

'The Best Of The '68 Comeback Special' CD Review: The original NBC TV Special featured Elvis playing with so much passion that it inspired a career renaissance
Released to cash-in on the recent “Elvis All-Star Tribute” one can only hope that the mass of Post Malone and Ed Sheeran fans will consider Elvis’ amazing musical legacy worth checking out.
Elvis never looked cooler than in the 68 Special and this surely has got to help.
The original ELVIS NBC soundtrack vinyl album was obviously the very first selected ‘Best Of’ while BMG’s marvellous 1998 “Memories” double-album was an expanded version.
This new ‘Best Of’ has presumably been selected by Rob Santos and John Jackson.
Elvis was SO DAMN GOOD performing for the NBC TV special that any alternate edit has to be enjoyable so EIN thought it worth giving the new set a spin. With all of Elvis’ USA sales getting a positive bump after the new TV show we know that this new set is being played in a fair few homes.

'What was Elvis searching for?' EIN Spotlight: The question is raised – but never answered – in the title of HBO’s recent absorbing, imperfect documentary 'Elvis Presley: The Searcher'.
At the start it seems clear what the teenage Elvis was searching for – an escape from the oblivion of poverty in the American South. Yet his quest was cultural as well as financial.
Later Elvis read obsessively, seeking out such books as The Impersonal Life, Joseph Brenner’s guide to self-discovery and Kahil Gibran’s book of fables, The Prophet. In his copy of Gibran’s tome, Elvis jotted down the line: “A singer can sing his songs but he must have an ear to receive the song”.
So what exactly was Elvis searching for? In this fascinating EIN Spotlight respected author Paul Simpson takes a close look at this all important question which, for some reason, was basically ignored in the recent HBO documentary..

The VINYL Boom: Over 7.6 million vinyl LPs were sold in the USA during the first half of 2018, a 20% increase from the previous year, while in Australia vinyl sales increased by $3 million, the same increase of 20%. In the same period CD sales however dropped by 15%.
Elvis vinyl is still selling very nicely with ‘ELV1S: 30 #1 Hits’ recently in the UK Top ten VINYL charts.

... What is there to say about Elvis Presley that hasn’t already been said?
It may be 41 years since the icon died tragically at only 42 years old but his music continues to live on, and likely will forever. It’s actually mind-blowing to think that his music has survived for almost as long as he was alive. In 2002 Sony Music released a new greatest hits collection titled ELV1S: 30 #1 Hits, which dominated charts across the world and sold millions and millions of copies. 16 years on from its original release, ELV1S: 30 #1 Hits has been reissued on 2LP vinyl.
Taking inspiration from the album cover, the release has been pressed on gold vinyl making the whole package feel very special.
Presley was an incredibly prolific artist so getting this collection down to 31 tracks was no easy feat. It also includes the ALLC Junkie XL remix.
What was achieved with ELV1S: 30 #1 Hits though, is a

collection that gives you all the highlights you need from The King’s career to showcase the incredible impact he had on music. The album opens with Heartbreak Hotel and there isn’t a single filler track here.
It’s actually near impossible to pick out highlights across the 2LPs because every single one of these songs is a classic.
Of course no Elvis collection would be complete without Suspicious Minds and that track is near the end of the track listing on the final side.
The release features the artwork from the original 2002 release and it’s a beautiful, high-quality gatefold. I mentioned earlier about the gold vinyl but what I’ve not commented on yet is the sound. The CD version was a little patchy given that the songs were all recorded at different times. It’s not as noticeable on the vinyl release and the quality is crystal clear. The warm crackle of vinyl adds to the overall feel too.
ELV1S: 30 #1 Hits is a must-have release for any Elvis Presley fan. While he had plenty of great songs that aren’t featured here, this collection truly is the definitive one to own. There’s not a single bad song here and it’s lengthy enough to give you value for money. The whole vinyl package is fantastic and it looks as good as it sounds.
They don’t make artists like Elvis anymore and they probably never will again.

(Book Review) The Comeback - Elvis and the Story of the 68 Special (Simon Goddard): The past two months have been a busy period regarding Elvis' legendary '68 Comeback Special. Marking its 50th anniversary, the Special was shown in cinemas and two new books were published, one by Steve Binder (Director/Producer of the Special) and the other by noted rock music analyst, Simon Goddard. EIN's Nigel Patterson recently took a few deep breaths and submerged himself in the Simon Goddard release.Having previously read a number of the author's cerebrally challenging books, he was not surprised to find that Goddard's treatise on Elvis' legendary Comeback Special is one hell of an intellectively challenging and dizzy rollercoaster of a ride....... a journey most rewarding for those brave enough to go the distance.

(Book Review) The Elvis Experience (Dave Hebler): As a member of Elvis' Memphis Mafia, Dave Hebler was part of Elvis' inner sanctum at least until his acromonious sacking, along with Red West and Sonny West, in 1976, and the subsequent publication of the infamous book, Elvis What Happened?. Over the years, Dave, Red and Sonny West reclaimed respect in the Elvis world, at least with many fans, if not the Presley family and EPE. Dave Hebler's new book was released during Elvis Week 2018. The Elvis Experience has a 'fan friendly' feel to it. There are many amusing and fun stories and the author does not shy away from discussing at least some of the not so positive aspects of his experience working for Elvis. 'ELVIS ON TOUR - 45th Anniversary Deluxe Edition' IN-Depth Review: Amiga International's long awaited LIMITED-EDITION boxset featuring 9-CD’s, all remastered, of all known recordings made for the Golden Globe Award-winning concert documentary ELVIS ON TOUR is OUT NOW. It includes the premiere of the complete rehearsal recorded in Buffalo, NY on April 5, 1972, with three previously unreleased performances.
The 13-inch boxset also includes a huge 128-page hardcover book containing detailed essays of the entire April 1972 tour with RARE AND UNPUBLISHED photographs and related memorabilia.
When considering the lack of attention paid to this concert documentary, it seems a shame that so few official releases have emerged. It is for this reason that AMIGA International presents this deluxe package to honor the excellent recordings made for the much neglected "Elvis On Tour" film. |

FTD will NOT end in 2019: A fair number of uninformed supposed Elvis "insiders" (even some Fan Club Presidents) have been publishing fictional stories that the FTD label is planning to close in 2019.
Ernst Jorgensen had strongly denied this story stating, that FTD has plans to continue for the foreseeable future.
In an interesting interview about 'The Future of FTD' - with Trevor Cajiao in the recent ETM&HM magazine - Ernst Jorgensen's main points were....
1. FTD will not be closing in 2019
2. The 'Classic Albums" series is nearly complete but there are more to come, noting 'Aloha' and 'Madison Square Garden' are still to be done.
3. Expanded "complete session tapes" releases are being considered
4. Plenty more soundboards to come

UPDATED - Trying To Get To You: The Truth Behind The Elvis And Roy Orbison Show Rumours: For decades there has always been an unsubstantiated rumour that Elvis Presley appeared as a guest on Roy Orbison's TV show on the local station KOSA.
The Roy Orbison website notes that both Johnny Cash and Elvis Presley performed on Roy’s TV show in late 1955.
Respected author Colin Escott wrote in his book Good Rockin’ Tonight about a kinescope of Elvis on the Roy Orbison TV show actually existing.
Some keen Elvis fans have said that they have seen this very kinescope at Elvis Week shows back in the 80s.
But like infamous Pied Piper of Cleveland does this footage really exist and is there any real proof that Elvis did appear on the Roy Orbison TV show?

Mindi Miller Interview with EIN: Mindi Miller was a working actress when she met Elvis in early 1975. She was interested in karate (she performed all her own movie stunts), exploring spirituality and the Bible and so they had a lot in common.
Mindi Miller and Elvis bonded over their common interests and soon afterwards he asked her to go on tour with him in April 1975.
She stayed friends with Elvis through the years - along with members of the 'Memphis Mafia' - and attended his funeral.

'Marty Lacker: A Life Well-Lived' & Elvis at American Studio's Interview: It was with immense sadness that last month EIN had to report on the death of our great friend - and a true friend to Elvis - Marty Lacker. We will miss him dearly.
Marty is well-known as one of the key members of the Memphis Mafia and also co-Best Man at Elvis' wedding. He was known for both his honesty and being forthright with his opinions. He was the only member of the Memphis Mafia who still watched and commented on recent Elvis News. He had no issue with holding people to account (especially ones who would inflate their importance within Elvis' legacy) and would regularly ask EIN to add his comments or to correct any inaccuracy.
Elvis fans often ask about Marty Lacker's background, how he came to meet Elvis, as well as his involvement in the music industry outside of working for The King.

UPDATED - 'Way Down In The Jungle Room' EIN Review: Released for August 2016 this SONY Legacy pack celebrates the 40th anniversary of Elvis’ last recording sessions which took place in Graceland’s Jungle Room.
The publicity noted the sessions “have been newly mixed by Matt Ross-Spang at Sam Phillips Recording” and “includes both outtakes and in-the-studio dialog, providing a ‘fly-on-the-wall experience’ of what the sessions were like".
Elvis' original 76/77 albums were fairly uninspired collections (bar a few fine singles) and on the original LPs it was almost impossible to glimpse any sign of creative input from Elvis through the syrupy overdubs. It wasn't until the release of FTD’s magnificent ‘The Jungle Room Sessions’ that many fans began to understand the raw emotion, close camaraderie and Elvis’ personal feelings that were revealed by these intimate Graceland sessions.
To produce that same kind of revelation for the 'General Public' would be a very tricky project but that is exactly what the new legacy team has done - and to great effect.

UPDATED - Paul Dowling EIN Interview Part Three: Paul Dowling is without doubt one of the major names in the Elvis World. He started collecting and selling Elvis vinyl over 40 years ago and has one of the world's largest Elvis Presley record collections. He started his "WorldWide Elvis" shop back in the seventies, way before the internet, where fans could get hold of rare Elvis records and memorabilia.
With such a fascination with Elvis, Dowling not only became a big name in the early years of Elvis bootlegs but later became friends with Ernst Jorgensen and helped RCA with various official releases.

Did Elvis Record 'Tiger Man' At Sun?: A question that has puzzled Elvis fans through the years is whether he actually recorded the song ‘Tiger Man’ during his years at SUN studios.
The basic question is why did Elvis refer to 'Tiger man' several times in concert as “The second song that I ever recorded, not too many people heard it”?
And if Elvis DID record it, then why hasn’t any reference to it at SUN or proof of its existence been found?
Elvis would first perform ‘Tiger Man’ in concert at his first 1969 Las Vegas International season and would continue playing it through the years – usually in a medley with Mystery Train - until his last performance at Saginaw on May 3 1977. He would sing it over 150 times on stage!
The thought that there might be an acetate or undiscovered tape of Elvis at SUN singing ‘Tiger Man’ is a mouth-watering concept - but is it an unlikely fantasy or strong possibility?
