Luhrmann’s ELVIS to be filmed in Australia: Baz Luhrmann’s Tom Hanks-starring Elvis film is set to shoot significant portions in Australia. This was confirmed by Annastacia Palaszczuk, Premier of Queensland.
The currently untitled film, backed by Warner Bros will explore the life and music of Elvis Presley, including his rise to fame, his unprecedented stardom, and his impact on the world. It will also delve into his complicated relationship with his manager, Colonel Tom Parker.
The 56-year-old Director of innovative musicals Moulin Rouge!/ Great Gatsby Baz Luhrmann is still on the hunt for an actor to play Elvis Presley. He is searching for an actor between the ages of 19 and 28 who can portray the singer’s shy vulnerability masking his unshakeable faith in his own destiny.

Palaszczuk said she was looking forward to welcoming the Warner Bros. production to Queensland’s world-class facilities, Village Roadshow Studios, on the Gold Coast. She said that an agreement to shoot in Queensland had been made after a recent meeting with Luhrmann in London.
No schedule for a start of production was announced.

Baz Lurhmann - the ELVIS research: As noted below Australian director Baz Luhrmann (Great Gatsby, Moulin Rouge) is working on pre-production for his new Warner Bros ELVIS biopic.
Latest news was that Academy Award winner Tom Hanks is to play Elvis Presley's iconic manager Colonel Tom Parker.
EIN first reported the news of Baz Luhrmann's Elvis biopic back in May 2014 - but it is only recently that Baz Luhrmann has acknowledged that he is now focussed on his ELVIS project.
Luhrmann has recently posted four videos of his interview with Elvis' childhood Tupelo friend Sam Bell.
His interviews feature some great photos and delightful insights of Elvis' early years. (see links below)

The director has also posted three neat photos of him at Graceland with the comment..
"Thanks to Jack, Angie, Regina, and the whole team at Graceland for their support over the last year and a half of research. Not a bad office, hey? Just gotta close the gate on your way out..."
With Academy Award winner Tom Hanks on board and Luhrmann's skills in making epic, music-focused movies there is a real hope that Elvis' legacy will be well-served in this new release.

Actress Anne Neyland ('Jailhouse Rock') Dies at 84: Actress Anne Neyland co-starred in Jailhouse Rock and dated Elvis. A former "Miss Texas" she was one person who got to visit Elvis in hospital when he accidentally swallowed his capped tooth while practising the famous dance-sequence. She also starred in two other 1957 films, 'Hidden Fear' and 'Motorcycle Gang.' Anne Neyland died Wednesday, she was 84.
Neyland played Laury Jackson and Presley starred as Vince Everett, a construction worker who accidentally kills a man in a barroom brawl, in Jailhouse Rock, the singer's third movie overall and first at MGM.
She dated Presley during the making of the film and for a spell afterward.
"These last three years Elvis been so used to people tearing at him wherever he goes that he's drawn-into as hell. He's so used to being alone with a few close friends and going for drives and playing records that you can't get him out of it."
Also in 1957, the blue-eyed actress appeared as the girlfriend of John Payne's cop in the Copenhagen-set film noir Hidden Fear, directed by André De Toth, and International Pictures release Motorcycle Gang.
Neyland later had an un-credited role in Ocean's 11 (1960), her final onscreen role.
Born in Mississippi, Neyland moved to Dallas as a youngster, won a Miss Texas pageant and worked as a model before she played a chorus girl in Singin' in the Rain (1952).
She went on to appear on TV's Private Detective; Highway Patrol; The Bob Cummings Show; Sea Hunt; and Peter Gunn.

First character details for Guralnick Elvis biopic: With production set to begin in January 2020, The GWW has obtained character details for the titular role in the upcoming Elvis Presley biopic:
Vulnerable, but with a strong sense of his own destiny. Although shy, he has the enthusiasm of someone who dreams of being big. This is Elvis before he’s famous and adopts his famed persona…
The studio is searching for an actor between the ages of 18 and 29 to portray the King of Rock’n’Roll.
‘The Great Gatsby’ director Baz Luhrmann is directing the pic, which will star Tom Hanks as Presley’s manager, Tom Parker. Parker both helped Presley rise to fame and hurt him in the process. He never let Presley tour outside the US and took 50% of Presley’s earnings. No release date for the project has been set.

Reflections on Elvis #3: Elvis, the one or two-piece jumpsuit and the budget conscious 1970s:
Elvis’s stage wear also acquired a new look. Instead of two-piece suits, Bill Belew began designing one-piece jumpsuits, which allowed Elvis to move about more freely, and not to worry about his shirt coming out of his trousers.
Made of a wool/gabardine blend, the fabric was sturdy enough to accommodate Elvis’s physical exertions (he’d torn out the seat of his pants at one show during the previous Vegas engagement), but also meant that the outfits were very warm. The Oracle Speaks: That Elvis’s explosion in Las Vegas from 1969 led to an economic boom for cabaret costume designers is well chronicled (well it is now naysayers). Jumpsuited entertainers cropped up in every casino in Vegas, notably The Osmonds, The Jackson Five / The Jacksons, Mick Jagger, David Cassidy and Wayne Newton. Even Gerry Dorsey, sorry Engelbert Humperdinck (no, not the German composer), apparently briefly donned the attire – although as Mr Dorsey tells the story he influenced Elvis’ look, jumpsuits and sideburns, rather than the other way around). Mr Humderdinck told Noise11.com in 2015:
Elvis copied his trademark sideburns from Engelbert. “I had them in 1965 and Elvis put his on in 1972,” Engelbert said. “The true story is this … he had a lady sketching him to find an outfit for him to go on his world tour. That’s where the white jump suit came in. She designed this white jumpsuit with the high collar and the long black side-burns. She presented it to him and he went (in Elvis voice) “Hell, that’s not me, that’s Engelbert Humperdinck”. So therefore you know who had it first”.
Another Vegas act, an illusionist named the Invisible Man, also wore a multi-coloured jumpsuit but sadly as his act actually worked, none of the audience could appreciate the intricate and ornate splendour of its design. We should also not forget that decades later, future superatar, Bruno Mars, started his career as a pint-sized Elvis impersonator. |

The reality is times were tough in 1970 and Bill Belew’s company obviously offered an attractive discount rate on one-piece designs (especially given the volume of suits Elvis wanted). Just remember who Elvis’ financial manager was…….. the very budget conscious Vernon Elvis Presley!
I reckon Vernon’s canny business decision would have saved Elvis around $5,000 between 1970 and 1977. BTW, down-south diapers anyone?

| Punk-metal-hard rocker Glenn Danzig set to release Elvis covers album: Glenn Danzig's long-awaited collection of Elvis Presley covers, appropriately titled "Danzig Sings Elvis", is scheduled for a fall release.
Last fall, Danzig told Full Metal Jackie's nationally syndicated radio show that he wanted to play "a few intimate shows" in support of "Danzig Sings Elvis".
"Every time I'd have downtime, or if I was working on soundtrack stuff, I would just record nother Elvis track or two," he said. "So what started out as an EP, I now have more than enough for a full album; I have extra songs that won't even make it on the record.

| So I'm really gonna have to sit down and pick the songs that I really want on the record. But it came out really good; I can't wait for everyone to hear it. A lot of people ask me about it all the time when I'm on the road. So it will be nice to get it out in some period in 2019 and do some of those little intimate shows I was talking about." Danzig previously covered Presley's "Trouble" on his eponymous band's "Thrall-Demonsweatlive" EP in 1993. He also recorded a version of "Let Yourself Go" for 2015's "Skeletons". "Elvis is actually kind of how I got into music," Glenn told Rolling Stone in 2015 interview. "When I was a kid, I was cutting school pretending I was sick and I would lie at home watching old movies, and 'Jailhouse Rock' came on with Elvis. I was, like, 'I want to do this. This is great.' And that's how I veered to music."
Regarding how he came to cover "Let Yourself Go", Danzig said: "It's a song that a lot of people may or may not be familiar with, but he actually liked it so much he put it on the ''68 Comeback Special'. It's just a cool song I've always liked. I knew I could do something really cool with it. I didn't want to do the obvious Elvis song, you know? You don't have to highlight an Elvis song, everyone's heard them, this is just probably a lesser known song of his thousands of songs that everybody knows. I like his delivery, his voice. He's not just standing there, he's moving around. I like that. I don't like singers who just stand there. It's boring to me. | Asian ETA appears in Honeymoon in Vegas and Married With Children, records with the Jordanaires, helps Colonel Parker place Elvis star into the Palm Springs Hall of Fame, and receives a five minute standing ovation in Memphis: Yoshi Suzuki began his Elvis Tribute career when he competed in the hit TV show, "The Gong Show" in 1988... and won. He auditioned for it again in 2016, and became the only person in history to be featured on The Gong Show twice.
His one-of-a-kind, often hilarious odyssey through the wonderful world of Elvis impersonators started when a television producer saw him on The Gong Show, and immediately hired him for a featured role on "Married, With Children," where he very nearly stole the show.
Soon thereafter, Yoshi crashed an audition for the motion picture "Honeymoon in Vegas" starring Nicolas Cage and Sarah Jessica Parker, and became one of the only three 'Elvi' to actually sing in the movie, along with a cute little boy, who would eventually become the pop sensation Bruno Mars.

From there, Yoshi was featured on countless Los Angeles and New York network TV news shows honoring Elvis' birthday, including a memorable radio spot with the noted Chicago shock jock
Yoshi received a five-minute standing ovation at Doc Franklin's Elvis Tribute Contest in Memphis, and attended the Elvis induction into the Palm Springs Walk of Fame with Kathy Westmoreland, where he helped place Elvis' star with Colonel Tom Parker. Afterward, Yoshi traveled to Collingwood, Canada, where he amazed 10,000 happy Elvis fans with his hilarious, often moving routine. One of Yoshi's proudest achievements came when he was selected to be the voice of Elvis on Larry Geller's audiobook, "If I Can Dream." Not only can Yoshi do a stunning singing imitation of "The King," but his speaking voice is so good that it even fooled Elvis' best friend, Joe Esposito. Then, in January 2017, at the age of 69, Yoshi defeated over 3,500 contestants for "America's Got Talent" in Atlanta, making it all the way to the semi-finals.
But perhaps Yoshi's fondest dream came true when he recorded an entire album with Elvis' original backup group the legendary Jordanaires, in Nashville, Tennessee. He remembers getting only two hours sleep the night before the session and "being scared half to death," but it was a high point of his life that he will never forget.

Les Reed, Elvis composer, has died: UK songwriter Les Reed, the co-writer of Tom Jones' hits 'Delilah' and 'It’s Not Unusual' has died age 83. Les Reed also co-wrote 'Girl Of Mine', 'Sylvia' and 'This Is Our Dance' supplied to Elvis through Freddy Bienstock's UK publishing company. He also helped compose 'The Last Waltz' for Engelbert Humperdinck, while his songs were also recorded by Frank Sinatra and Bing Crosby, two even becoming football terrace anthems.
Tom Jones paid tribute to Reed describing him as a “gifted songwriter who was instrumental in penning many a hit, incl two important songs for me … Les was a lovely man, whose legacy will live through his music.”
In collaboration with lyricist Geoff Stephens, Reed wrote “There’s A Kind of Hush”, which was covered successfully by Herman’s Hermits in 1967 and The Carpenters in 1976.
Reed composed the score for the 1968 film The Girl on a Motorcycle. In the Seventies he became musical director, conductor and arranger for Granada TV.
Reed was awarded the OBE in 1998, both for services to music.

EPE have announced a Motorbike weekend..
From his first Harley Model 165 to his beloved 1956 Pepper Red Harley-Davidson KH, there is no denying that Elvis Presley loved motorcycles, and Elvis Presley’s Graceland will host its first-ever ‘King of the Street Bike Weekend at Graceland’ May 31 – June 2, to bring motorcycle enthusiasts and Elvis fans together for an incredible experience.
Throughout the weekend, guests can experience activities celebrating the power and passion of the riding life. Guests will also be among the first to experience the brand-new Graceland Exhibition Center (Opening May 2019) featuring the debut A Century of the American Motorcycle exhibit, which features a one-of-a-kind collection classic bikes curated by the legendary Barber Vintage Motorsports Museum.
“If you’ve ever seen the Presley Cycles’ exhibit in Elvis Presley’s Memphis, it’s obvious Elvis had a love for all things on two wheels, and we’re excited to recapture that same passion that comes with riding life.”
The weekend will also feature the GRAMMY-nominated Christian-metal band STRYPER live in concert on Sunday, June 2.

'Wedding at Graceland' New Hallmark Movie: Last year's 'Christmas at Graceland' was Hallmark’s highest-rated film of 2018 and the production on the sequel 'Wedding at Graceland' is already underway with much of the principal photography taking place in Graceland.
'Wedding at Graceland' reunites stars Kellie Pickler and Wes Brown as Laurel and Clay, the former Memphis sweethearts who rekindled their romance during "Christmas at Graceland."
Expect the nuptials to take place in the Graceland Wedding Chapel in the Woods, which opened during Elvis Week last year. The sequel also features a cameo by Priscilla whose appearance will see her share fond memories of her 1967 wedding to the King of Rock 'n' Roll.
The honeymoon will continue as it is confirmed that Kellie Pickler will also return for the third Elvis-inspired Hallmark movie set for December.
The third movie will be shot later in the year.

"franchise" is an attempt to build a slate of original summer movies to match the appeal of the network's "Countdown to Christmas," an eight-week ratings juggernaut of romantic wish-fulfillment that now makes Hallmark the top network in December, and if that helps push Elvis' marketing appeal to a new generation of romantics there is nothing bad about that.

'Elvis Sings The Harmony' New Import CD: Is this the sound of the barrel being scraped or Elvis singing "The Harmony"! For some reason the Reel Trax label is happy to be back, after more than a decade, with an album you could have compiled yourself.
It would have been a more professional job if the designer had a better grip of English!
Their publicity promises.. Elvis´ love for singing harmony has its roots in his love for gospel choirs. It is absolutely common and even necessary to be able to sing harmony when you do gospel songs, unless you are always on lead vocals. From the very early stages of his career the "King" never really needed to do any harmony part. He had his beloved "Jordanaires" with him who did a great job all of the time. Later on there were plenty of other background singers who always could do the job (and did it of course) absolutely fantastic! The one which is best known is certainly the legendary 1969 recording "Suspicious Minds".

'Elvis: From Georgia To Florida' 1975 new FTD: A new FTD double-soundboard release 'Elvis: From Georgia To Florida' has been announced featuring two concerts from April 1975.
Released as a 5" digipack, a 2CD set features Elvis in great form from his shows at the Coliseum in Macon on April 24, 1975 and previously unreleased Lakeland April 27, 1975 Afternoon Show.
The set-list is fine including Big Boss Man, It's Midnight, Promised Land, Burning Love, Help Me, My Boy, T-R-O-U-B-L-E and I'll Remember You.
EIN notes: If this looks familiar to fans it is because FTD released 'Elvis In Florida April 1975' back in 2014 which featured the Lakeland April 27, 1975 Evening Show.
Unfortunately soundboards from the start of this tour all have the same inherent 'problem' a HEAVY bias towards Piano. On the 'Elvis In Florida' release we noted that some of the tracks sounded almost a capella with only piano and backing-vocalists as accompaniment - there was often very little drums or orchestra in the mix.

excellent FTD compilation "Southern Nights" however these had far from the best audio quality.
Our review noted, "The 3 tracks from Macon suffer from poorer audio but are obviously included for the powerful trilogy of 'Big Boss Man', 'It's Midnight' and 'Promised Land'. It is odd that Kathy Westmoreland's rather dominant vocal shows a clarity that is actually needed for the whole band! 'Promised Land' in particular suffers from the lack of rhythm section."
Sadly with the barrel of unreleased Elvis material getting near empty collectors have to be pleased that we get anything new at all.

'Elvis Live at the International, Aug 23, 1969” a Variety RSD Top Choice: Variety has nominated their 25 Best Record Store day releases and Elvis Presley, “Live at the International Hotel, Las Vegas, NV August 23, 1969” is one of them.
Record Store Day 2019 has brought music fans 401 brand new slabs of vinyl, some will be available for months, and some were released in such limited quantities that even joining your local Record Store line at dawn is no guarantor of success.
The total list (see RSD website) of over 400 releases is mind-boggling so Variety selected their 25 highlights including releases from ELVIS, Bob Dylan, Pink Floyd, Jeff Tweedy, Elvis Costello and Elton John.

Graceland Staying in Memphis - despite EPE threat: In the midst of a dispute with the city of Memphis, managing director of EPE apparently made an extraordinary threat: Graceland might leave Memphis and find a new place to dwell.
“We had an offer ten days ago to move Graceland to Japan,” Joel Weinshanker said. “We had two offers to move to the Middle East and one to move to China. They offered us more profit than we could ever make in Memphis.”
The idea that Graceland could be dismantled and shipped overseas, like the old London Bridge that was sent to Arizona, has been forestalled, however, by an expected deal that would grant tax incentives on a $US100 million expansion.
There would be a hangar for Elvis’s planes, an enlarged guesthouse for visitors and a club modelled on the Jungle Room, an eccentrically decorated living room in Elvis’s mansion.

The city council is expected to approve the deal this month.
It had been held up by concerns over a 6000-seat concert arena planned in the expansion.
The city had previously agreed that it would only allow for the use of public funds on a single concert venue, an arena that is also the home of the local basketball team.
Mr Weinshanker said that Graceland already had a soundstage where it could hold concerts and a 500-seat theatre inside a newly built guesthouse. The concert arena “will be done by 2022”,
In the end Weinshanker acknowledged that it was rather unlikely that Graceland would have been moved.
“No matter how famous Elvis got, no matter how much money he made, he always came back to Memphis,”
“The truth is that we can’t continue to expand without reasonable incentives that make sense, but we’ve never threatened to move Graceland,” he said.
Weinshanker blamed the misunderstanding on “misdirection by a small number of politicians who don’t care about the city, they care about themselves.” He did not name the politicians.
Graceland is seeking incentives to build a separate, 6,200-seat concert arena. A lawsuit about the concert venue is ongoing, but it is not part of the expansion plan to be voted on by the council.

Rock Lovers Bid Farewell to Brown County Arena: Rock'n'roll lovers bid farewell to the Brown County Veterans Memorial Arena at its final show before the concert venue will be demolished to make way for a $93M expo center.
Brown County Veterans Memorial Arena's six-decade reign as a concert venue came to an end recently in much the same way it's forever etched in so many memories — in a dark haze of loud rock and blazing pyro with sticky floors, sweaty bodies, long lines and enough energy to make the place feel like it was bouncing with the beat.
When Elvis Presley came to arena on April 28 1977, there were tears, screams, and only 6,532 tickets.
Shirley Romsos wasn’t just there when Elvis Presley played Brown County Veterans Memorial Arena, she was in the front row. She didn’t just stand in line to get tickets for what would go down as most famous concert in the arena’s 60-year history.
She was the first in line.
News that ELVIS was coming to Green Bay was so incredible that Romsos said she could hardly believe it. She wasn’t alone. The arena received more than 3,000 calls the day the concert was announced.
There would be 6,532 tickets available; 800 of them for $12.50 and the rest for $15. They were expected to be gone in three hours and in 1977 there was no online sales, no presales, not even any phone sales. It was in-person at the box office only. Cash only. Four tickets per person.
Presley flew into Green Bay Austin Straubel International Airport on his private jet 'Lisa Marie'. Hundreds were gathered to get a glimpse of him as he stepped off.

The rock legend was 42 when he performed a 90-minute show at the arena. His health had begun to deteriorate but Presley could still sing — a moving version of Paul Anka’s “My Way” was mentioned as a standout — but he wasn’t the famous showman of old.
Presley had twisted his ankle the night before. There was “no fabled pelvis,” just a “faint swivel of the hips.”
For fans, however, he was still “The King.” They threw roses, teddy bears and hats at his feet, and at least a few women made it up onstage before they were quickly hustled off by security.
“It was a great night. I still remember it like it was yesterday,” said Romsos, now 70. “There was nothing rowdy. It was just a lot of screaming. When he shook, they just went wild. It was just like your heart was beating a mile a minute. It was fun. It was so fun.”
Elvis reached out and grabbed Romsos’ hand as he moved across the stage, and she got one of the souvenir scarves he tossed to fans. That treasured memento was lost in a house fire a few years later. The tickets she stood in line for nearly a day to get were spared, still safely tucked away in her purse.
Less than four months after he sold out Brown County Veterans Memorial Arena, Elvis had died of heart failure.

'Elvis LIVE UK Tour 2019': A new tour showcasing Elvis Presley's greatest hits has been announced.
Elvis' Greatest Hits tour will hit six arenas across the UK in November/December 2019.
As well as performances from the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra this time the show will also feature the TCB Band.
Priscilla Presley and long term associate Jerry Shilling will also appear on stage at each date, sharing stories, personal photos and rare home movies.
The 2019 tour marks 50 years since Elvis made a triumphant return to live performing with a Las Vegas residency in 1969. Priscilla noted, "We're BACK and better than ever!"
"I am thrilled and honoured to be returning to the UK. Please join me live on stage to present this brand new show backed by the Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra, Elvis' TCB Band, never before seen new footage of Elvis and more surprises, including, Jerry Schilling and myself on stage sharing our stories. Collingwood Council Stops Funding Elvis Festival: Collingwood council voted unanimously to put an end to the Collingwood Elvis Festival as a municipally run event.
The Collingwood Elvis Festival in Ontario, Canada is an annual event that has been going since 1995 and one of the largest Elvis festivals in the world attracting over 15 thousands Elvis fans.
Recently however the council has been funding the Festival to around $80,000 money that could be spent elsewhere.
"I think the people have spoken, and they don't want the Collingwood Elvis Festival to be a municipally funded event anymore," said Councillor Bob Madigan.
The future of the festival is uncertain, however. The town did receive an unsolicited proposal from a private enterprise, Gardhouse Inc., interested in taking over the festival and running it in Collingwood beginning in 2020.

A staff recommendation before council Monday night suggested supporting the transition of the festival to the private enterprise by sharing information and helping them plan the event.
Coun. Kathy Jeffery said she wanted more information and more time to make a decision on who would take over the festival and how that transition would work.
"This is a very valuable brand," said Jeffery. "There is an Elvis brand, and there is also a Collingwood brand. There's a huge amount of goodwill that has already been established and has a value."
The council are now making a decision on where to spend the money saved by not funding the festival.

..Reviewer Shane Brown noted, "From The Vaults" should have been single-only sides and masters released after Elvis's death. And they would have been a fun listen. As it is, these final discs are a truly unmitigated mess, switching from poor sounding TV recordings to stellar sounding studio recordings to distorted private recordings and then back again. ‘ELVIS a PARIS’ 60th Anniversary Book: The first edition of the book ‘Elvis in Paris’ was published by French fan club Elvis My Happiness back in 1999 for the anniversary of the 40th anniversary of his first visit.
A second edition was published in 2007.
For this new, 2019 ultimate release, the book is a luxury edition with better images, more text and stylish design. It features new documents and more interviews than previous editions. It also explains the essential role played by Elvis in France and includes English text.
The 25x25 book brings together more than 400 photos, documents and memorabilia.
It is accompanied by a VINYL album plus a 20 track CD including multiple outtakes plus an interview given in Paris by Elvis. Added to this is a large format reproduction of a photo taken in front of the Prince De Galles Hotel.

Elvis Arrested April 3, 1955: Sixty-four years ago on April 3, 1955 a Louisiana State trooper stopped a pink and white Cadillac on U.S. 171 in Caddo Parish, Louisiana for driving 80 mph in a 60-mph zone. The car was being driven by a 20-year-old from Tennessee - Elvis Presley.
The king of rock and roll was taken into custody and brought to the Caddo Parish Jail, where he posted a bond of $25 and was released.
The photo shows Elvis with band mates Scotty Moore and Bill Black.
Elvis would have been racing between gigs and on the road constantly that month, primarily in the southern states.
Elvis played Houston City Auditorium for a Louisiana Hayride Remote Broadcast on April 2 before traveling to Nettleron, AR High School on April 4th and heading on to Charleston MS the following day.

The arrest report shows that the police had to chase Elvis for nine miles before getting the car to stop. Elvis' height is noted as 5 foot 11' while his occupation is "Entertainer".

The ‘Elvis Is Alive’ conspiracy is Back!: The UK Tabloids have suddenly re-discovered the 1990 Gail Brewer-Giorgio "The Elvis Files: Was His Death Faked?" after the 1991 TV show was posted on YouTube.
And every week we are seeing another "Elvis Is Alive" story.
It only goes to show the crazy media interest in ELVIS 42 years after his untimely death.
The tabloids write that "ELVIS Presley was involved in FBI operations after his supposed death and there is proof, a documentary has sensationally claimed.
The official coroner’s report ruled his cause of death as a heart attack, but wacky conspiracies have swirled ever since that The King of Rock and Roll faked his death.
So-called “sightings” of Elvis, “discrepancies” with his funeral corpse and a selection of recordings are among the pieces of evidence that theorists use.
One of the most astonishing conspiracies behind why The King apparently “faked” his death is because he was in the FBI.
The theory was explored in 1990 documentary The Elvis Files, which has recently been re-posted to YouTube.
One section of the shows sees host Bill Bixby revealing what he claims are FBI documents pertaining to Operation Fountain Pen, that were centred on events from 1976-1982.

Tom Hanks to play Col Parker!: Academy Award winner Tom Hanks is in negotiations to play Elvis Presley’s iconic manager Colonel Tom Parker in Baz Luhrmann’s untitled Warner Bros biopic about ELVIS. Variety broke the news this week. EIN first reported the news of Baz Luhrmann’s Elvis biopic back in May 2014! While Parker helped launch Elvis’ huge career, he of course also hindered it in many ways. Because he himself was Dutch-born and did not have a US passport, he never allowed Presley to tour internationally.
Luhrmann will direct the movie. He also penned the script with Craig Pearce.
Parker discovered Presley when he was just an unknown and quickly moved in as his lone representation. Parker was responsible for various milestones, including Presley’s record deal with RCA and his successful acting career.

While Luhrmann always envisioned a star for Parker’s part, he wants a newcomer for the role of Presley. The director has begun meeting with talent for the part.
Insiders say a budget is still being ironed out, but Hanks’ commitment will urge the studio to push the project forward. Luhrmann hopes to get the pic into production sometime this year.
Hanks is no stranger to portraying real-life figures like astronaut Jim Lovell in “Apollo 13,” Washington Post editor Ben Bradlee in “The Post,” airline captain Chesley Sullenberger in “Sully,” Captain Richard Phillips in “Captain Phillips,” and Walt Disney in “Saving Mr. Banks.”
In previous productions about Elvis' life, Parker has been portrayed by actors including Beau Bridges, Randy Quaid and Gene Jones.
With Hanks’ talents as an actor and Luhrmann’s skills in making epic, music-focused films such as Moulin Rouge and Strictly Ballroom there’s now every reason to start getting excited about this new Elvis biopic.

"Country Music" New Ken Burns doco: Standing in the small anteroom just outside the famed Sun recording studio at 706 Union Ave, Jerry Phillips son of Sun founder Sam Phillips looked up at a wall of framed portraits of Carl Perkins, Conway Twitty, Little Milton, Sonny Burgess, Junior Parker and Elvis, and said: "None of those guys sounded like anybody else but themselves."
Phillips' observation helped explain why famed documentary filmmaker Ken Burns made a pilgrimage to Sun Records during a publicity tour for his upcoming PBS series "Country Music," an eight-episode saga that continues the Burnsian exploration of American art, history and culture previously manifested in such epics as "The Civil War," "Baseball" and "Jazz."
"The fourth episode brings Johnny Cash to the doorstep of Sun, literally," said Burns, 65, as he stood in the doorway of Sun, literally.
Set to premiere Sept. 15 on PBS stations "Country Music" is like past Burns efforts a wide-ranging and essentially chronological history of its subject.
After Sun, the group made a short dogleg trek to the Sam Phillips Recording Service at 639 Madison, the studio Phillips founded 10 years after Sun.

Among the 100 or so others present were Grammy-winning recording engineer Matt Ross-Spang; Texas troubadour turned Memphis transplant Dale Watson; Memphis and Shelby County Film Commissioner Linn Sitler.
Still, mortality is much on the minds of the filmmakers. Dunfey said 20 of the 101 people interviewed for "Country Music" have died since the project began many years ago, including the documentary series' first two interview subjects, performer Little Jimmy Dickens and guitarist-entrepreneur Harold Bradley, both filmed in in Nashville in 2012.
Burns said he hopes "Country Music" sculpted to its completed 16-hour form from some 175 hours of footage will demonstrate that great works of art "obliterate the borders" of race and class that the overall culture often seeks to preserve.

'How Great Thou Art' Carrie Underwood Elvis Tribute: Carrie Underwood recently performed 'How Great Thou Art' as part of the 'Elvis All-Star Tribute' and you can now see the performance in its entirety. Underwood's performance is one of several songs that aired, with artists like Blake Shelton, Keith Urban, Post Malone and more taking part in the broadcast.
"How Great Thou Art" was not Underwood's only performance of the night. She also collaborated with Shelton, Darius Rucker, Eva Mendes and Post Malone in singing "If I Can Dream," with a recorded version of Presley singing along.
Underwood has performed "How Great Thou Art" several times throughout her illustrious career, including a version with Vince Gill that has garnered almost three million views.
"This song to me, it's such a special song in a time that I think people need to be reminded to love one another.
The message of "Love Wins" is to spread love instead of hate, and embrace what unites people instead of their differences".

"Bobby Morris My Las Vegas - With Elvis... " New Book: Bobby Morris was Elvis' Las Vegas conductor at his first 1969 season. His new book 'Bobby Morris My Las Vegas - With Elvis, Sinatra, Streisand, Darin, Prima & more' is out in May 2019.
The publicity notes, "My Las Vegas is the incredible life story of BOBBY MORRIS, who arrived in the U.S. from Poland at age ten, where he shined shoes and dreamed of being a drummer, and rose to become a music legend both behind the drums and in the Vegas entertainment industry. Leaving home as a teenager during the height of the Great Depression, Morris witnessed the birth of bebop coming from Harlem, and is himself credited with laying down some of the very first beats of rock n roll. Hearing about a little town out west called Las Vegas, Morris arrived there in 1950 and proceeded to carve out a niche for himself in the music and entertainment management worlds, ascending to accompanist to the greatest stars of all time: Judy Garland, Barbra Streisand, Bobby Darin, Frank Sinatra, Eddie Fisher and dozens of others.
Achieving fame as the drummer for Louis Prima's Witnesses during a golden age in Vegas, Morris eventually became the conductor and friend of Elvis Presley. He rubbed elbows with American presidents, playing the Kennedy Inauguration and befriending a young actor named Ronald Reagan. This, his autobiography, is the inspiring and nearly unbelievable story of one man achieving his dreams and rubbing elbows with the greatest personalities of the twentieth century in the process.

Priscilla / Elvis Burial fantasy story: The story has been doing the rounds in the tabloids but Priscilla Presley has now responded that the recent reports regarding her funeral plans are completely bogus and in fact, she has no plans what-so-ever to be buried next to Elvis.
Earlier tabloid reports claimed that Elvis' former wife has planned her own funeral and has recently made all the appropriate instructions to be buried at Graceland next to Elvis.
Priscilla Presley, "This is the Enquirer folks... please don’t believe everything you read. Don’t plan my funeral just yet, I’m very healthy. Never planned on being buried next to Elvis. What will they come up with next!?"
Radar Online had recently reported that Priscilla, 73, reached out to Graceland’s trustees and all the plans were finalized revealing that the final resting place plans were a done deal.
“Priscilla still thinks of herself as Elvis’ widow and her rightful resting place is next to him,” a source told Radar Online going on to say that Priscilla wants an “elaborate funeral” and when her time comes she wants all of Elvis’ music
to be played and to be completely surrounded by photos of herself and Elvis.

allegedly got Cilla thinking about tying up all her loose ends and ironing out her last wishes.
“Priscilla feels that she played a defining role in Elvis’ life and that he was her only true love. Even though they divorced four years before his death in 1977, she believes they shared a loving bond until the day he died — and beyond the grave.”
However, Priscilla is calling this total BS and feels she has a lot of living to do yet.
As previously reported Priscilla Presley’s 2019 total net worth is somewhere around $100 million while her and Elvis‘ only daughter Lisa Marie Presley is next to nothing.
A lot of Elvis’ dedicated fans have been pretty upset by the financial circumstances concerning Lisa Marie and all the legal and personal battles she has been undergoing for the past few years following her divorce proceedings from her fourth husband Michael Lockwood.
They reportedly believe that Elvis’ baby girl should in no way be suffering financially while ex-wife Priscilla Presley continues to rake in a massive yearly income all of these years later riding on her famous husband’s namesake.

"Chick" Crumpacker Dead at 91: RCA executive "Chick" Crumpacker was one of RCA's driving forces in getting Elvis first signed up with the label.
Crumpacker was working in RCA's C&W section when he happened to see Elvis performing in Richmond, Virginia in May 1955and noted, "Elvis was shocking, he was wild, - the effect was galvanic! I was astounded by the reaction". Crumpacker also knew Col Parker through his connection with Hank Snow. He subsequently bought all of Elvis' SUN records to take back to his boss Steve Sholes.
Crumpacker would also write the wonderful sleeve notes for Elvis' second RCA album "ELVIS" which tried to supply a proper musical explanation for this crazy thing others called Rock'n'Roll.
Chauncey "Chick" Crumpacker went on to be a three-time grammy-nominated producer and executive for RCA Victor. He died on Tuesday aged 91.
Born and raised in Evanston, Illinois, Crumpacker's career in music began in 1953 in RCA Victor's A&R department shortly after moving to New York City. As well as Elvis he also tried to bring Johnny Cash to RCA but was ultimately unsuccessful after the label failed to support the move.

Elvis drummer Hal Blaine dead aged 90: What do Blue Hawaii's Rock-A-Hula Baby, A Little Less Conversation and the NBC 68 Comeback special all have in common? The answer is the brilliant tight drumming of LA session musician Hal Blaine.
He was a sort-after member of LA’s “Wrecking Crew", musicians who worked on hundreds of pop greatest hits in the sixties. Without realising it everyone knows his tight drumming style from Nancy Sinatra’s ‘These Boots Are Made for Walking’, the outstanding Beach Boys’ ‘Good Vibrations’, Mamas and Papas ‘California Dreamin’, the Byrds ‘Mr Tambourine Man’, Barry McGuire ‘Eve of Destruction’, Sonny and Cher ‘I Got You, Babe’, Frank Sinatra ‘Strangers in the Night’, Simon and Garfunkel ‘Bridge Over Troubled Water’ and multiple Phil Spector hits such as the explosive ‘Be My Baby’ by the Ronnettes.
Hal Blaine’s driving beat was the foundation of Phil Spector’s “Wall of Sound” and he was an important collaborator with Brian Wilson on the The Beach Boys recording including their influential ‘Pet Sounds’.

in March 1961, then Girls, Girls, Girls, in 1962, Fun In Acapulco, Roustabout and other movie soundtracks. Blaine worked on ‘Live A Little, Love A Little’ so his drumming is the core beat for Elvis’ massive hit ‘A Little Less Conversation’ and more importantly the NBC Comeback Special - employed as part of the 'Wrecking Crew team. This would be his last Elvis session.
Hal Blaine also appeared in the movie 'Girls, Girls, Girls' as the drummer of the Pirates Den nightclub. He is on stage with Elvis for the classic 'Return To Sender'.
EIN contributor / Elvis author / Ken Sharp knew Hal Blaine and yesterday told EIN, "Hal Blaine was a real character with a great sense of humor, very genial and a kind man. Having played on hits records from Elvis to Simon and Garfunkel, the Beach Boys to the Mamas & the Papas and thousands of others, Hal was an extraordinary musician blessed with a consummate and intuitive skill to deliver the perfect part for a song and often his drum fills were major hooks in a song, witness “Be My Baby” by The Ronettes or “Indian Reservation” by Paul Revere and The Raiders. Hal had a real sense of gratitude for being afforded the opportunity to play on so many hit records “

permanently set up to his specification in several of the studios.
Born Harold Simon Belsky he took drum lessons with Roy Knapp, who had taught jazz drummer Gene Krupa. Session musicians made good money in the 60s and his colleagues included such famous names as Glen Campbell, Billy Strange, Tommy Tedesco, Don Randi, Leon Russell, and Larry Knechtel.
Blaine gave the "Wrecking Crew" their name, a reference to the older musicians who feared that the new generation would usurp their opportunities and destroy their comfortable living.
Talking about Elvis, Blaine said, "Elvis paid top dollar and he was the nicest guy in the world. Elvis came to see me in Las Vegas when I was with Nancy Sinatra at Caesar’s Palace. When you come off a stage with all the bright lights, it’s very, very dark for a few moments. All of a sudden, someone grabbed me from behind and kind of lifted me up like they were doing the Heimlich maneuver, and it was Elvis. It was really exciting."

Blaine eventually took on the lucrative additional role of studio contractor, relied on by producers to hire the right musicians for each individual session. The Wrecking Crew’s motto was TTMAR: “Take the money and run.” But they – and Blaine not least – seldom closed the studio door behind them without having left something of themselves on the recording tape. Luckily there is still plenty of great music to remember him by.

Released to cash-in on the recent “Elvis All-Star Tribute” one can only hope that the mass of Post Malone and Ed Sheeran fans will consider Elvis’ amazing musical legacy worth checking out.
Elvis never looked cooler than in the 68 Special and this surely has got to help.
The original ELVIS NBC soundtrack vinyl album was obviously the very first selected ‘Best Of’ while BMG’s marvellous 1998 “Memories” double-album was an expanded version.
This new ‘Best Of’ has presumably been selected by Rob Santos and John Jackson.
Elvis was SO DAMN GOOD performing for the NBC TV special that any alternate edit has to be enjoyable so EIN thought it worth giving the new set a spin. With all of Elvis’ USA sales getting a positive bump after the new TV show we know that this new set is being played in a fair few homes.

Better news for all Elvis Fans is that this unreleased August 23, 1969 Dinner Show is a taster for the '1969 LIVE Deluxe Box-Set' that is being released mid-year for Elvis week to help commemorate the 50th anniversary of Elvis' return to live performance - the Return to Splendour.
RCA recorded at twelve Elvis concerts in 1969 (for the 'Elvis In Person' project) of which seven performances have been released in full so far by FTD/RCA. Presumably the new Deluxe Box Set will feature all of RCA's multitrack concert recordings.

Elvis March 1956 (Paul Belard): The latest book in Paul Belard's massive (40+ books) undertaking to archivally record Elvis' life and career in essentially visual (pictures) format has been released (another two books are nearing completion).
Here is EIN's mini-review of Elvis March 1956:
Another day-by-day account of a month in Elvis’ life. This time author-researcher Belard details (essentially in photos) what Elvis did in March 1956, a very busy and important month in his career. The month featured three appearances by Elvis on television, three performances on the Louisiana Hayride, and a mid-month tour of Georgia, North and South Carolina, Virginia, Kentucky and Washington D.C. Late in March 1956 Elvis also flew to Los Angeles for his first screen test and on his return home to Memphis he moved home from 1414 Getwell to 1034 Audoban Drive.
The myriad of photos (a mix of candids and professionally captured) are mostly in b&w with a number of color images including the ‘colorised’ image of Elvis on motorcycle used for the May 1956 issue of The Enthusiast and color images of Elvis during his television appearances.
The book also features a variety of interesting archival material/reproductions and each day is introduced with text setting the scene. Most of the images are of good quality, a few reflect their age and are included due to their historical importance/rarity.

'Elvis: St Paul To Wichita: Oct 1974' FTD In-Depth Review: A live soundboard 5” double-digipack this time focussing on Elvis' Tour 12 which went from September 27 to October 9.
Two concerts St. Paul, Minnesota October 3, 1974 and Wichita, Kansas October 7, 1974 are included with three bonus songs from October 4, 1974.
Best of all these are both previously unreleased soundboards.
While Elvis had performed some memorable shows earlier in 1974, the September-October 1974 tour was not one of his best, with highlights sparsely dotted across the shows. The infamous College Park performance was during this tour, but by October 3 it was clear Elvis was up and enjoying himself.
In high energy and good humour Elvis at one point jokes, "By God, you might have been wrong for so long, but you were right tonight J.D!"
The soundboard audio quality is excellent.

'What was Elvis searching for?' EIN Spotlight: The question is raised – but never answered – in the title of HBO’s recent absorbing, imperfect documentary 'Elvis Presley: The Searcher'.
At the start it seems clear what the teenage Elvis was searching for – an escape from the oblivion of poverty in the American South. Yet his quest was cultural as well as financial.
Later Elvis read obsessively, seeking out such books as The Impersonal Life, Joseph Brenner’s guide to self-discovery and Kahil Gibran’s book of fables, The Prophet. In his copy of Gibran’s tome, Elvis jotted down the line: “A singer can sing his songs but he must have an ear to receive the song”.
So what exactly was Elvis searching for?

The Memphis Sessions - 50 Years ago Today: It seems impossible that it was fifty years ago this month that Elvis walked into American Studios in Memphis and started work on what are probably his most celebrated sessions, maybe even better than those made at Sun.
Not as influential, of course, but certainly deeper and darker from both the point of view of lyrics and Elvis’s emotional involvement. He was no longer a (relatively) innocent teenager singing about love to his sweetheart, but someone who had really experienced love as an adult.
Elvis could also sing about loss in a way he couldn’t fifteen years earlier, he had lived, and he seemed to pour all of his experiences into the recordings at America, and didn’t care about laying bare his soul. In fact, he knew he had to.
This was make or break....

'Suspicious Minds' - Elvis' Greatest Single?: It was FIFTY YEARS AGO, in the early morning hours of January 23, 1969, that Elvis recorded the song that would guarantee his true musical
renaissance would last through until his all-too-early demise almost a
decade later. 'Suspicious Minds' would be released on August 26th 1969. While the NBC '68 TV Special, along with the single 'In the Ghetto' had pushed Elvis back to the forefront of popular culture, it would be the release of Elvis' last US Number 1 single that would ultimately prove to all the critics that Elvis was a still relevant contemporary musical force.
Back in 2009 EIN celebrated the 40th anniversary of this Number One single and looked back in detail at the history of this classic song, including new interviews with Marty Lacker and Bobby Wood, as well as insights from composer Mark James and producer Chips Moman.

(Book Review) Elvis Presley Music Movies Myth (Matthew Martin): October 2018 saw the release of a new but little known Elvis book, Elvis Presley Music Movies Myth.
In hardcover format (with dust jacket) and containing more than 400 pages, EIN's Nigel Patterson decided to explore what author Matthew Martin had to offer.
Is Elvis Presley Music Movies Myth simply another run-of-the-mill biography, or does it offer the reader something more substantial?

Matt Shepherd ('Elvis: Stories Behind The Songs') Interview: BBC Local Radio presenter and EIN contributor Matt Shepherd has published his first book looking at some of Elvis' biggest hits and lesser known treasures.
'Elvis Presley: Stories Behind The Songs' the first of a two volume book, starts in January 1969, almost 50 years ago, when Elvis recorded in Memphis for the first time in 14 years.
Shepherd notes, "I started my book in 1969 as it was a crucial crossroads for Elvis, he had proved in the 68 Special that he was still a dynamic performer. However the 69 sessions would go on to show Elvis was still a major chart force, able to select and record hit making and relevant songs.
"Had these Memphis sessions not been the great success they were, Elvis could well have spent the rest of his life as a nostalgia act. So it was essential he got it right."

'Elvis: The Searcher - Additional Stories' Spotlight: Like all too many serious Elvis fans Dennis Laverty felt let-down by the lack of seventies content in the HBO 'Elvis The Searcher' documentary. Luckily for us he has produced a lovely documentary "Elvis Presley: The Searcher - Additional Stories Not in the Original Film" that anyone can view on Vimeo.
He writes, "I really enjoyed The Searcher documentary, but after watching I wished they would have made it 4 hours. The 1950's skipped what pushed Elvis over-the-top when he appeared on TV, two of his best films and soundtracks (Loving You & Jailhouse Rock), and the backlash he took with his rock and roll Christmas Album. The 1960s unfortunately glossed over American Sound, especially Elvis taking a risk with 'In The Ghetto'.

The 1970s disappointed when nothing was discussed about Elvis' only concept album (Elvis Country), nor 'He Touched Me' (they could have included unreleased Elvis on Tour footage of gospel segment) and finally with David Porter one of the Execs of the film from Stax Records that nothing was discussed about Elvis' returning to Memphis and STAX to record three key albums.
My goal was just to highlight those stories in some way.
Obviously I don't have access to the Elvis archives at Graceland, but I hope you enjoy.

The VINYL Boom: Over 7.6 million vinyl LPs were sold in the USA during the first half of 2018, a 20% increase from the previous year, while in Australia vinyl sales increased by $3 million, the same increase of 20%. In the same period CD sales however dropped by 15%.
Elvis vinyl is still selling very nicely with ‘ELV1S: 30 #1 Hits’ recently in the UK Top ten VINYL charts.

... What is there to say about Elvis Presley that hasn’t already been said?
It may be 41 years since the icon died tragically at only 42 years old but his music continues to live on, and likely will forever. It’s actually mind-blowing to think that his music has survived for almost as long as he was alive. In 2002 Sony Music released a new greatest hits collection titled ELV1S: 30 #1 Hits, which dominated charts across the world and sold millions and millions of copies. 16 years on from its original release, ELV1S: 30 #1 Hits has been reissued on 2LP vinyl.
Taking inspiration from the album cover, the release has been pressed on gold vinyl making the whole package feel very special.
Presley was an incredibly prolific artist so getting this collection down to 31 tracks was no easy feat. It also includes the ALLC Junkie XL remix.
What was achieved with ELV1S: 30 #1 Hits though, is a

collection that gives you all the highlights you need from The King’s career to showcase the incredible impact he had on music. The album opens with Heartbreak Hotel and there isn’t a single filler track here.
It’s actually near impossible to pick out highlights across the 2LPs because every single one of these songs is a classic.
Of course no Elvis collection would be complete without Suspicious Minds and that track is near the end of the track listing on the final side.
The release features the artwork from the original 2002 release and it’s a beautiful, high-quality gatefold. I mentioned earlier about the gold vinyl but what I’ve not commented on yet is the sound. The CD version was a little patchy given that the songs were all recorded at different times. It’s not as noticeable on the vinyl release and the quality is crystal clear. The warm crackle of vinyl adds to the overall feel too.
ELV1S: 30 #1 Hits is a must-have release for any Elvis Presley fan. While he had plenty of great songs that aren’t featured here, this collection truly is the definitive one to own. There’s not a single bad song here and it’s lengthy enough to give you value for money. The whole vinyl package is fantastic and it looks as good as it sounds.
They don’t make artists like Elvis anymore and they probably never will again.

'68 Comeback Special - 50th-anniversary': More publicity out for the new box set.
... '68 Comeback Special (50th Anniversary Edition) is set for release on November 30 and includes five CDs of music plus two Blu-ray discs featuring video content.
After spending most of the decade in Hollywood making forgettable movies and mostly boring music to accompany those films, Presley staged a comeback in 1968 with a TV special that was simply called Elvis and aired on Dec. 3.
Part of that program featured Presley singing some of his old hits, as well as a few new songs, surrounded by a lavish, Hollywood-style backdrop. But another section of that show spotlighted Presley, decked out in black leather and armed with a guitar, sitting on a stool on a spare stage that also included guitarist Scotty Moore and drummer D.J. Fontana, two-thirds of the trio that catapulted Presley to fame in the mid '50s with their work on the Sun sessions and early RCA recordings.
That "sit-down" performance included raw takes of some of their best records, including "That's All Right" and "Heartbreak Hotel." |

There were also scorching versions of "Baby, What You Want Me to Do" and "Lawdy, Miss Clawdy" that pretty much signalled Presley's return to rock 'n' roll.
The Comeback Special, as it was later called, opened the door to Presley's terrific Memphis records from 1969 and his renewed success in the '70s until his death in 1977.
The '68 Comeback Special (50th Anniversary Edition) collects all of the existing audio and video from the show plus rehearsals and sessions recorded with the Wrecking Crew.

(Book Review) The Comeback - Elvis and the Story of the 68 Special (Simon Goddard): The past two months have been a busy period regarding Elvis' legendary '68 Comeback Special. Marking its 50th anniversary, the Special was shown in cinemas and two new books were published, one by Steve Binder (Director/Producer of the Special) and the other by noted rock music analyst, Simon Goddard.
EIN's Nigel Patterson recently took a few deep breaths and submerged himself in the Simon Goddard release.
Having previously read a number of the author's cerebrally challenging books, he was not surprised to find that Goddard's treatise on Elvis' legendary Comeback Special is one hell of an intellectively challenging and dizzy rollercoaster of a ride....... a journey most rewarding for those brave enough to go the distance.

(Book Review) The Elvis Experience (Dave Hebler): As a member of Elvis' Memphis Mafia, Dave Hebler was part of Elvis' inner sanctum at least until his acromonious sacking, along with Red West and Sonny West, in 1976, and the subsequent publication of the infamous book, Elvis What Happened?.
Over the years, Dave, Red and Sonny West reclaimed respect in the Elvis world, at least with many fans, if not the Presley family and EPE.
Dave Hebler's new book was released during Elvis Week 2018.
The Elvis Experience has a 'fan friendly' feel to it. There are many amusing and fun stories and the author does not shy away from discussing at least some of the not so positive aspects of his experience working for Elvis.

The film suggests that America, like Elvis, has squandered its potential and betrayed the promise of its glorious beginning. As Harlem rapper Immortal Technique tells Jarecki in the film: "If Elvis is your metaphor for America, we're about to O.D."
Jarecki's "The King" is essentially a filmed essay, with musical interludes and commentary provided by guest artists (Emmylou Harris, Chuck D), journalists (Dan Rather) and celebrities (a seemingly irrelevant but quite eloquent Mike Myers), many of whom discuss Elvis and America from the back seat of the large luxury car, purchased at auction for the production. Dave Hebler Interview Update with EIN: Dave Hebler is best known to Elvis Presley fans as being part of the Memphis Mafia and Elvis’ bodyguard in the mid-seventies. As an integral part of Elvis’ personal and professional life, Hebler’s primary responsibility was the personal safety of Elvis at home as well as at recording sessions, personal appearances, concert tours and various recreations.

'ELVIS ON TOUR - 45th Anniversary Deluxe Edition' IN-Depth Review: Amiga International's long awaited LIMITED-EDITION boxset featuring 9-CD’s, all remastered, of all known recordings made for the Golden Globe Award-winning concert documentary ELVIS ON TOUR is OUT NOW. It includes the premiere of the complete rehearsal recorded in Buffalo, NY on April 5, 1972, with three previously unreleased performances.

FTD will NOT end in 2019: A fair number of uninformed supposed Elvis "insiders" (even some Fan Club Presidents) have been publishing fictional stories that the FTD label is planning to close in 2019.
Ernst Jorgensen had strongly denied this story stating, that FTD has plans to continue for the foreseeable future.
In an interesting interview about 'The Future of FTD' - with Trevor Cajiao in the recent ETM&HM magazine - Ernst Jorgensen's main points were....
1. FTD will not be closing in 2019
2. The 'Classic Albums" series is nearly complete but there are more to come, noting 'Aloha' and 'Madison Square Garden' are still to be done.
3. Expanded "complete session tapes" releases are being considered
4. Plenty more soundboards to come

UPDATED - Trying To Get To You: The Truth Behind The Elvis And Roy Orbison Show Rumours: For decades there has always been an unsubstantiated rumour that Elvis Presley appeared as a guest on Roy Orbison's TV show on the local station KOSA.
The Roy Orbison website notes that both Johnny Cash and Elvis Presley performed on Roy’s TV show in late 1955.
Respected author Colin Escott wrote in his book Good Rockin’ Tonight about a kinescope of Elvis on the Roy Orbison TV show actually existing.
Some keen Elvis fans have said that they have seen this very kinescope at Elvis Week shows back in the 80s.
But like infamous Pied Piper of Cleveland does this footage really exist and is there any real proof that Elvis did appear on the Roy Orbison TV show?
Shane Brown (author of Reconsider Baby: Elvis: A Listener's Guide) has done an immense amount of investigation and thinks he has found the answer.

In this period Elvis' voice had matured and the sound of ‘68/’69 was a great musical turning point for Elvis with the NBC TV special and the Memphis sessions. Caveat Emptor (Buyer Beware) - Exposing the Amazon Elvis Book Rip-Off?: From RCA to Sony Elvis' back catalog has long been exploited at the expense of his legacy. The same thing is now happening regarding Elvis book releases!
Through clever marketing, including the use of different (but suspicious) author names and different book titles for releases which are essentially identical; short and long book editions; and coupling the Elvis story with that of other celebrities, a glut of Elvis related book titles (with repetitive text) only available from Amazon are blatantly misleading fans.

Mindi Miller Interview with EIN: Mindi Miller was a working actress when she met Elvis in early 1975. She was interested in karate (she performed all her own movie stunts), exploring spirituality and the Bible and so they had a lot in common.
Mindi Miller and Elvis bonded over their common interests and soon afterwards he asked her to go on tour with him in April 1975.
She stayed friends with Elvis through the years - along with members of the 'Memphis Mafia' - and attended his funeral.

'Marty Lacker: A Life Well-Lived' & Elvis at American Studio's Interview: It was with immense sadness that last month EIN had to report on the death of our great friend - and a true friend to Elvis - Marty Lacker. We will miss him dearly.
Marty is well-known as one of the key members of the Memphis Mafia and also co-Best Man at Elvis' wedding. He was known for both his honesty and being forthright with his opinions. He was the only member of the Memphis Mafia who still watched and commented on recent Elvis News. He had no issue with holding people to account (especially ones who would inflate their importance within Elvis' legacy) and would regularly ask EIN to add his comments or to correct any inaccuracy.
Elvis fans often ask about Marty Lacker's background, how he came to meet Elvis, as well as his involvement in the music industry outside of working for The King.
As a prelude to Ken Sharp's fascinating interview with Marty Lacker and a discussion about Elvis' famous American Studio' Memphis sessions, EIN presents "Marty Lacker: a life well-lived" in which Marty tells of his life in the music industry, his friendship with Elvis along with his dislike of the over-controlling Col Parker.

UPDATED - 'Way Down In The Jungle Room' EIN Review: Released for August 2016 this SONY Legacy pack celebrates the 40th anniversary of Elvis’ last recording sessions which took place in Graceland’s Jungle Room.
The publicity noted the sessions “have been newly mixed by Matt Ross-Spang at Sam Phillips Recording” and “includes both outtakes and in-the-studio dialog, providing a ‘fly-on-the-wall experience’ of what the sessions were like".
Elvis' original 76/77 albums were fairly uninspired collections (bar a few fine singles) and on the original LPs it was almost impossible to glimpse any sign of creative input from Elvis through the syrupy overdubs. It wasn't until the release of FTD’s magnificent ‘The Jungle Room Sessions’ that many fans began to understand the raw emotion, close camaraderie and Elvis’ personal feelings that were revealed by these intimate Graceland sessions.
To produce that same kind of revelation for the 'General Public' would be a very tricky project but that is exactly what the new legacy team has done - and to great effect.

Did Elvis Record 'Tiger Man' At Sun?: A question that has puzzled Elvis fans through the years is whether he actually recorded the song ‘Tiger Man’ during his years at SUN studios.
The basic question is why did Elvis refer to 'Tiger man' several times in concert as “The second song that I ever recorded, not too many people heard it”?
And if Elvis DID record it, then why hasn’t any reference to it at SUN or proof of its existence been found?
Elvis would first perform ‘Tiger Man’ in concert at his first 1969 Las Vegas International season and would continue playing it through the years – usually in a medley with Mystery Train - until his last performance at Saginaw on May 3 1977. He would sing it over 150 times on stage!
The thought that there might be an acetate or undiscovered tape of Elvis at SUN singing ‘Tiger Man’ is a mouth-watering concept - but is it an unlikely fantasy or strong possibility?
