Hi everyone

The Elvis world is hotting up as the start of Elvis Week 2004 is almost upon us. You can check out all the latest news on Elvis Week at:http://www.elvis.com/graceland/calendar/elvis_week.asp

Also, EIN's roving reporter, Sanja Meegin, will log in periodically with 'on the spot' reports as she and 12 other EIN members enjoy the festivities in Memphis. Our official tour group is guaranteed a fantastic time as this year we hook up with the famous Elvis Week tours conducted by Todd Slaughter's British fan club.

To be released in the next few months as a limited edition pressing. (Elvis News, Source: Worldwide Elvis)

Royal Member of the Danish Elvis Fan Club: Elvis Unlimited advises that The Danish Crown Prince Frederik was recently inducted as an honouree member of the Official Elvis Presley Fan Club Of Denmark. The Crown Prince attended a reception in Odense, Denmark where the impersonator Henrik Busborg and his band Devils were performing. From him he received a lifetime membership. The Crown Prince is an Elvis fan himself. Some of you maybe remember seeing the pictures of him singing along on Love Me Tender at the Rock’n’Royal concert for him and his fiancé just before their wedding.

New book: “A Date With Elvis – Army Days Revisited”, will be released in Germany in October. We will be posting details on the site in the next few days.

New DVD Boxsets in Europe: Region 2 (EC) fans will shortly be trated to two Elvis DVD boxsets. The Elvis Collection Vol. 1 contains Jailhouse Rock, The Trouble With Girls, Spinout and Double Trouble. "Fly T-R-O-U-B-L-E" released

The latest CD from the Madison label is out now.

The CD contains a soundboard recording of Elvis' afternoon show in Jackson, MS on June 8, 1975.

The recording is nearly complete with only See See Rider and the first half of I Got A Woman is missing.

Release of "unofficial" soundboards is a rarity these days...most new titles being audience recordings or previously issued studio outtakes.

Tracklist: I Got A Woman/Amen (incomplete) Love Me If You Love Me Love Me Tender All Shook Up Teddy Bear/Don't Be Cruel/Hound Dog/The Wonder Of You/Burning Love/Introductions by Elvis of vocalists, band/Johnny B. Goode (James Burton)/Drum solo (Ronnie Tutt)/Bass solo (Jerry Scheff)/Piano solo (Glen D. Hardin)/ Introductions by Elvis of vocalists, orchestra/School Days (Joe Guercio Orchestra)/T-R-O-U-B-L-E/Why Me Lord?/How Great Thou Art (with two reprises)

Elvis on Top Ten Icons list: Time magazine has published a sries of top ten lists. Elvis appears in the Icons of the Century top ten, alongside Marilyn Monroe, Che Guevara and Bruce Lee. Cable World recently carried a report about last year's great windstorm in the Southeast of the US. Despite its 100-plus-miles-per-hour winds news of it was oversadowed by news of the killing of Saddam Hussein's sons, Uday and Qusay. What many people won't know is that weather specialists nicknamed the storm "Hurricane Elvis"...it was as eye-opening as it was ear-shattering.

Elvis and President Clinton: Recently, the weekend Sydney Morning Herald featured an article on the new book Paul Campos’ ‘The Obesity Myth’. A serious investigation into diet, health-risks and mortality, the only two celebrities featured were past President Bill Clinton, and Elvis. (Clinton lost around 15kg in a 1994-96 health regime, around the same time he also met Monica Lewinsky) In “The Two Elvises” section, Presley’s later physical decline was discussed, however the article ignored the fact that Elvis’ weight really yo-yo’d depending on his general state of health. The article stated, “The Images of fat Elvis and thin Elvis live together in the popular imagination, like twin brothers struggling for the affection of America’s heart.”

The interesting part of the article was that the Elvis photos used were not the regular 1956 “thin” and 1977 “fat” but instead used a publicity shot from 1962’s ‘It Happened at the World’s Fair’ as the thin image, and a still from Aloha for the supposedly fat! It’s a nice change from the old malicious tabloid images of the past, since Elvis looks just healthy & fine in both! While it is a shame that anybody still thinks ‘Fat Elvis’ is worth referring to, at least if we no longer see the Media publish those terrible 1975/76 dreadful derogatory photos it has got to be good for every Elvis fan. After all, how many 38 year old men look as good as Elvis in his Aloha suit? (apart from Nigel & I?)

Surprise for Scotty Moore & D.J. Fontana: noted Elvis tribute artist, Ronnie McDowell, wants to show Scotty & D.J. how appreciated they are by giving them both cars in recognition of the 50th anniversary of rock & roll. Ronnie is currently short by around US$10,000.00 and is seeking contributions from fans to bridge the gap. To contact and contribute fans can write to: WE CARE FUND c/o Volunteer State Bank 101 Hwy 52-W Portland, TN 37148

David Stanley talks to EIN: Yesterday I spoke at length with David Stanley, Elvis' youngest step-brother about life with Elvis and David's upcoming film, The Headhunter. As always, David was very candid. Our interview will be published on the site early next week. In it David shares more about his life working for Elvis, details several powerful scenes in The Headhunter and talks about casting decisions.

You can visit David's 'The Headhunter' website at: www.impellofilms.com

Also coming soon we'll have Piers' interview with Ed Bonja, former Elvis tour manager and noted Elvis photographer.

Did you know?

Elvis has achieved four "Triple Chart Topping" singles: ie.they have reached #1 on the major Singles charts in the USA, England and Australia. The singles are:

  • Are You Lonesome Tonight?
  • Good Luck Charm
  • It's Now or Never
  • Surrender

If we looked simply at sales (rather than chart positions), a number of other titles such as ALittle Less Conversation (Elvis vs JXL) would qualify as Triple Chart Toppers. (Source: OzNet Music Chart)

Elvis Trivia Question

Which Elvis album did RCA Victor refer to in Billboard as "The Fastest Selling Album of 1961"?

(Answer to last week's question: "Such Vicious Minds")

[Please note the trivia question is for your enjoyment only. There are no prizes. Occasionally EIN runs an online quiz with prizes and this is clearly announced at the time]
